I Think I Hard-Bricked My Phone, Really Need Help on How To Fix - General Questions and Answers

Hello, So it all started when I looked up online that I can increase my internal storage on my rooted Galaxy Grand Prime by making a second partition on my SD card. So I did some research on it and discovered I needed a SD card adapter so I can put my SD card into my computer and use some software to make the second partition on the SD card. I didn't have a SD card adapter at the moment and did some more digging on how to do this without a SD card adapter. Then I discovered a app called "Aparted" and downloaded it and tried to make the second partition when it failed. They said I had to disable it, and confused on what that meant I went to my settings and just unmounted it and shutdown my phone to see if that worked. I was an idiot. When I tried to turn on my phone again nothing happened, put it on the charger nothing, plugged it into my computer nothing, boot into safe mode, absolutely nothing happened. So I did some research on what the heck I done and came under the conclusion that my phone is hard-bricked and don't have the slightest idea on how to fix this... If anyone can help me it would be GREATLY appreciated. Because I have no idea on how to fix this.. Just in case here is my phone type again:
Galaxy Grand Prime SM-G530 and my carrier is Cricket

Seriously? Can someone help me?

why did u do it in the first place lmao.

I don't know what the solution could be basically because I've never encountered that kind of case in my life. It could be hardware and maybe trying changing your motherboard could be the solution.

[Q] Possible bricked Motorola Xoom - Please help!

Hi all, I recently got up the courage to attempt to install 3.1 on my UK Wifi xoom. I started by unlocking the bootloader. All went ok. Next I followed instructions on how to install the ClockworkMod Recovery. Installed it fine but couldn't boot into it.
Then rebooted to find my wifi had an error so i decided to perform a factory reset. The device rebooted into ClockworkMod Recovery and for some reason i played around with the 'Partition SD card' and made a partition... "I think".
It then turned off.. and nothing. I have tried the volume up + power button etc etc...
Any solutions or advice? PLEASE!?!
is it still recognized by PC in ANY way?

Sorry, but this sounds bad. Really bad.
Do a search through these forums. It appears that trying to partition using CWM ends up bricking the Xoom to the point that sending it to a service center and feigning ignorance is your only recourse.
Search through the forum, I hope I am wrong...but I don't think I am.
Not recognized at all - The only life i get out of it is the charging light.
i try to understand what you actually tried? u inserted a not-working sd in the SD-Slot and tried to partition it with CWM ?
Darn. I have had a quick look. I have a local technician looking at it at this present. But you have a good point. I could just say i hadn't a clue what i was doing.

No i did a factory reset and was presented with clockwork mod recovery and messed around with the partition SD card (There was no SD card in slot) created a partition, pressed reboot and didn't turn back on.

I have no idea. It gave me the option to do it. So i tried it basically. Biggest mistake of my life.

Well there was no fix. I took it back into Curry's/PCWorld and they replaced it. I blamed it on the fact that the battery overheated. No questions asked.
But cheers for all of your advice guys! Much appreciated

Good for you, in the future please do those of us that make a living on technology a favor and dont ruin your device and then ask the store you bought it from to take responsibility for your mistake.
Hope you enjoy your replacement Xoom and please do me more careful with it.

[Q] mt4gs bootloader phone problems

After installing the newest Virtuous Infinity (although I'm not sure if it is related to the rom), things were great.
After 3 or 4 days though, I woke up to my phone not responding. It almost seems as if the phone processor is running at 1/8th the speed. The touch screen doesn't seem to respond very fast, in fact, I can never get past the lock screen because it does not take my input in properly.
When I try to boot into Clockwork, the phone is stuck with only the clockwork icon there, and any key stroke will cause the phone to reboot again.
When I try to boot into the bootloader, the phone will either freeze and require a battery pull, or this image will come up ->
http://imgur.com/2zHLH
Therefore, when I hook up via USB, I cannot use fastboot to reflash the phone, since it seems to be stuck at that point on bootloader.
Any clue what's broken??
Thanks in advance!
Did you happen to have any zip files inside your sd card?
All the symptoms above seems to point at the sdcard as the problem.
try removing your sdcard and boot it up
thanks!
however, even after removing the sdcard, the phone is still messed up.
any other suggestions? what would be the best method of wiping and restoring the phone if i cannot get into the bootloader or recovery?

MAN! How weird! If it just started that out of the blue and was working fine before and you can't get into recovery either it sounds like you've had some kind of failure on the motherboard. You shouldn't have any problem swapping one with a hardware failure like that if that's actually what it is. I can't imagine ANYthing about a ROM that would do all that to one.
It COULD maybe be that your PG59IMG.zip file is corrupt & just stopping it. Can you delete & replace that file on the card and put it back in & reboot it?

does this issue have anything to do with this ->?

looks like something about how the phone looks for a list of PG54 files before boot is completed, any clues if that may be why my phone is dying?

i9103 doesn't turn on, display black

Hi guys,
I need some help from you. I have a problem with my galaxy r since today. At night it works perfectly, the last time, i used it, was at midnight, but at the morning, the display doesn't turn on. I plugged out the battery and after 1 minute, i plugged it in and tried to turn on the phone, but the phone does nothing. No Display, no vibration, nothing. Then i tried to plugin in the charger with battery - still the same problem.
If I put in the usb cable to the pc, the pc search a driver for "apx".
What can i do, to rescue my galaxy R ?
Software at the phone: Stock GB Austria "3" firmware
Kernel: Stock
CWM: 6 touch
root: yes
Hope, that somebody can help me
Sorry for my bad english - I'm from Austria
Dont worry I had the same problem with my phone ... check out this thread ...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1706572
Hi shad24, thank you for your answer. I know this thread, but i haven't backuped my "efs" folder and so i brought it to my local shop and they sended it to repair station, because i'm still having warranty.
Hope there is no problem, because i have cwm and many more things on my phone. But i think, they didn't know them, because the phone completely didn't work. If they change the mainboard, do they know, which data is in the "internal sd card" ? Or is it only a flash chip in the phone and not a real sd card?
Best regards
Hey,
See if they repair your phone by changing the chip or flashing the memory ... what ever you have saved on your internal memory i.e. phone memory will be deleted ...I am sorry there is no way to recover it...

But, i meant the internal sd card, not the internal phone memory. I know, that the flash of the phone memory will be deleted, if they flash a new software. But whats with the internal SD Card?. Is this only a flash chip on the mainboard, or is it a real sd card?.
The problem is this:
If they found a cwm or something like that on my phone, i didn't have warranty and so i have to pay for the repair. But if it is unpossible to find something like that, i have warranty and didn't have any problems.

Do you know about Brickbug...?? It just brick your emmc. & what is emmc..?? I think its your Internal SDcard of 8GB which partitioned into 2 ways. So if they will change your motherboard then your data in Internal Sdcard will be deleted.

No dont worry I do not think they will be able to find your CWM recovery because if the device is stuck in APX mode ... Nothing is recoverable from the chip...

Ok, so the "internal sd card" isn't a real sd card, but a flash chip on the motherboard?
Yes I know about the EMMC Brickbug, but i tested it bevor with the emmc brickbug app and it said, that my phone isn't affected.

Hello i think i have the same kind of problem somehow (Running Cynagonmod Nightly build 10.1 not sure about which excat version i think 01.05.2013), but I'm not certain. Last night i forgot my Galaxy R in the car with about 19% battery left. In the Morning it was not on anymore. I didn't bother much about it and went to my office and put in my USB cable to the computer to get a little bit of battery. I left it there like 3 hours. Then i tried to turn it on and at first all got was the battery symbol with a loading circle. After that I tried again and i got the boot-screen of Cynagonmod the it turned on, but after awhile it turned of again and ever since the it is stuck in the boot-screen and runs a little bit hot. I tried to remove battery and everything many times but neither did work. Can somebody verify if i have the same problem?:crying: Because after flashing 10.1 the phone got so much better. Thank you guys:good:
-----------------------------
Hey guys it somehow reverted i got it running after taking out battery again and then turning it on without connecting it to a wallplug. Then I put the charger again and now it seems to be happily loading.

Can you get into Recovery Mode , if so then you can install any stock rom through odin.
If you can get in download mode, just find the Odin for your specific device and reflash.

Sorry, but how did you manage to overwrite the partitions responsible for recovery and download mode by 'deleting files'?
Is it that your device just does not respond to anything?
If so, it seems that the system hanged hardly but is still running. If it were a phone, I'd tell you to pull the battery out. All you can do with that thing is wait for it to discharge and power off. After it does you can try to put it in download mode. (But charge it a little before this!)

If you only removed empty folders, it is something else that caused this. Especially if your tablet isn't rooted (is it?). Anyway, try to contact Samsung online. Your local dealer can at least try to find the actual cause.

Well, then it is pointless to ask samsung official dealers to repair it. You can try to reflash everything, though.
BTW, has your device eaten up its battery already? I mean, does it react to anything (both plugged into the charger and not)?

You should've let it discharge. You could try to disassemble it, disconnect the battery and reconnect it, if you're OK with the possibility of breaking more things and probably voiding your warranty.

Fixing a Hardbricked SCH-i535 / SCH-S968C Running Marshmallow 6.0.1

I have a Galaxy S3 model SCH-i535 (Verizon) running Marshmallow 6.0.1 which is now currently hard bricked as far as I can tell (can't turn on, no recovery mode, etc.).
I've been in a similar situation before while it was still running stock everything (the model was originally listed as SCH-S968C as I guess it's the same exact thing and was running 4.1.2 but changed once I updated), but I managed to save it by writing a debrick image onto the external SD which allowed the phone to boot. Cut forward to now and I'm unsure what to do.
The problem started when my phone wouldn't recognize my SIM card and I tried re-flashing nightly cyanogenmod builds with TWRP, but it didn't work. Eventually I was told to install a new modem and eventually found a ZIP file that I had to install through the recovery. Once I installed it (same way I installed any random ROM), I rebooted and at that point it wouldn't turn back on.
I've tried using the same image as before, but it didn't work and I haven't been able to find another image that's for Marshmallow and I don't believe you can somehow revert it to stock by booting it through the SD or something so I could use the old debrick image.
I'm not sure what else to do as Google so far hasn't turned up anything.

Also it was running marshmallow 6.0.1 via Cyanogenmod, but if you mean before that it was 4.1.2 lollipop I think? Either way it was 4.1.2 something.

I believe it was the nightly build labeled "cm-13.0-20160510-NIGHTLY-d2vzw.zip" on the Cyanogen site (can't post links since I don't have enough posts I guess, but you should be able to find it easy).
You can't boot into download or recovery mode? Don't see a reason it should've been hard bricked.

What I think I did was replace the modem file directly (ie deleting the current modem and dragging and dropping the new one in to replace it).
I'm not sure why I did that but I did.

Missed this somehow.
You're going to have to pull a debrick image from a 4.1 stock rom (whichever baseband you were on, not the actual rom you were using), write it to an sd card until it boots from that.
Once your phone boots, you can then move the debrick image to your internal storage and fix the modem, the hard brick repair guide should work for you.

I think the debrick image is a boot image, don't quote me on that though. I'm not really sure what it is because I never needed it.

Which one do you mean exactly?
One of the files in the OP or was it posted somewhere else in the thread? I saw this file here, but I wasn't sure which one you meant.

The guide is stickied at the top :

Follow those directions with the appropriate bootloader you have. I think you have 4.1.

You mean the one labeled "Debrick file if you bricked before the 4.3 OTA" correct?
Sorry if I seem a bit dense, I'm just trying to extra-cautious.
EDIT: Also one more question. Does it matter if you use use a USB micro SD reader (something that looks like a thumb drive, but you put a micro SD in a slot on the top), or is there a higher success rate using a SD card adapter and putting it into a SD card reader?
I heard that somewhere while looking up stuff, so I was curious if there was any merit to it.

Your phone has a microsd slot, put it in that.
Also if you use the wrong image nothing would happen, not really a risk to your phone.
Not sure why you'd need an adapter

Sorry, I meant as in an adapter to connect it to my PC in order to write the image onto the micro SD card.

O I see, ya you're going to need some way to get the file onto the sd card. That adapter should work.

I tried a few times over a couple days writing the debrick file from the guide to the card (specifically the labeled "Debrick file if you bricked before the 4.3 OTA"), following everything to the letter but to no avail.
I also noticed the light turns red when I plug it into my PC without the battery if that means anything.
I figure I should give a small update. I sent it into a local repair shop to get it JTAG'd and it's working fine now, so I don't need help anymore (for now at least).
Thanks to everyone whose helped me, and good luck to the guy reading this from a Google search like a year or two from now.
