Hello,
I'd like to have a dualboot option on my galaxy s7, with totally different roms and kernel (one of them is a N7 port). I know this is possible on some devices, but I'd like to know if this is possible on the S7.
Currently I'm just backing up my phone and restoring the other rom each time I want to switch ... It cost time, battery, storage... Not a good solution !
Is it possible to have, let's say, two partitions on my internal storage with each OS (let's call them OS instead of ROM, because they are totally different in my case), and a third tiiiiny one with just an OS selector. When the phone boots, it loads the selector, and then I choose my OS and it mounts the right partition in the right place (I don't know anything about that ^^") and then it boots the OS I chose ?
Thank you for helping, and sorry for my noobish question and especially, sorry for my English, it is not my native language ^^"

Is is possible two set an Andriod device up to have one rom on the internal memory of the phone and then another custom rom on the SD card and just be asked which way you want to boot it up when you turn it on or reeboot. could be a good way to test out new versions of roms almost side by side.
I used to have two versions of win on my pc and choose which way to boot it up when rebuliding it so other peole could use the machine still while i was in the process
Anyway just and idea
I am pretty new here but love the forum

Good question, i want know the same.... ++1
As far as i know it is not possible with an android phone. There are possibilities to dual boot with wm.
You could keep both ROMs as flashable version on your SD card and just switch by flashing another one. I don't know if you would retain all data like call history or sms if the roms are too different.
Hello there are rom custom for my sm-g350 pls ?

Gotta get this working!
Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum, although I have spend a big amount of time here (before registering), reading through posts about customizing ROMs, etc.
First things first:
- I have a Samsung Galaxy Core Plus G350 (or G3500 whatever suites you), and I would like to customize it's stock ROM, no rooting involved. I did manage to customize, or I should say minimize, my stock ROM for my Samsung Galaxy Xcover 2 (S7710), rooted it, changed lot's of things, just to get rid off unwanted apps, services and maximize performance. And that worked out pretty well .
Being I'm a guy who likes things to be neat (I'll get to that in a sec ), and pretty much as close to factory build as it can be, I'm not trying to do anything flashy with my G350, just want to remove stupid apps and that's it.
When I said neat, I meant Odin flashing ROM neat. I prefer it to CWM Rom installing technique (although this is clean as well, one would have to have a memory card, memory card reader (or working USB drivers if one has to transfer files directly to the phone), CWM Recovery Firmware (no support for G350), and compatible Custom ROM...you get the picture, not much of a trouble, but a hassle if some of the components are missing....Odin flashing... clean and easy, anyone can use it.
My problem is:
After completing all modification, my system.img file appears with a lock, when I compile it. I'm not sure about the memory allocation, I did calculated it correctly ( i hope ) but that shouldn't be a problem, my main problem is the stupid lock on system.img file icon, before I compress everything to tar and checksum it. Ofc the flashing fails and my best guess its because of that lock in the icon, and Odin stops on system.img file. Does anyone know why is this happening, I didn't have any issues with Xcover's ROM packing, every time I finish with the modification in Xcover system.img file, unmount the file, and everything is fine. Even the flashing part.
I'm packing everything in Ubuntu 14.04 ...I am familiar with linux base systems but I ain't a wiz and flashing in Win 7.
Does anyone know the solution to this, I'm doing something wrong for sure, or I'm overlooking something, any help is very welcome.
Sorry for this extensive text and bad English (not my native language), I figured someone would appreciate some info.
Best regards.

As far as I know, the lock shows, that you don't have the write permission on this file

Hi all,
Background:
I bought an android phone from Chinavasion. It is described as
Wholesale Waterproof Android Phone - Mini Android Phone From China
I cannot identify its device type which is why I am posting here. The play store identifies the phone as
Alps Ratech72_wet_rlk_lca
The phone has a MT6572 Dual Core 1GHz CPU and runs Android version 4.2.2.
I want to increase the ram of the phone. It is 256MB. I want to use virtual memory. I have a 2GB sdcard in the phone. I am planning to give it 512MB. Can I do this without rooting? If I have to root it, then how do I do so? I would prefer not to use an exploit.
Anyone any suggestions?
Pranav
Hiya,
I went around looking for some hints on this phone as well but didn't come up with anything.
I got my device yesterday and I understand your issue. I have no sollution for you but I do have a solid work-around to get some more app space which, I'm afraid, involves rooting.
Activate USB debugging, connect your device to a PC. Download and run Kingo Android Root and follow the instructions.
After that I "adb'ed" to make the phone choose the SD-Card as the default installing path. Run th following command with adb.
Code:
# adb shell pm set-install-location 2
For the apps that wouldn't move to the SD-Card, due to su issues, I moved manually with the app called Move app to SD card.
Grant the app root access to sort out the apps not willing to move by themselves.
With this sorted I now have 500 mb of apps installed on the SD-Card. I am running low on memory now due to some parts of the app still installs on the phone memory.
Not a real app2sd script but it certanly will get you some more apps installed!
Another hint: When I ordered the phone they said it supported 16 GB SD-Cards only but I'm running flawless with a 64 GB card!
I'd love to see a costum recovery (since I don't know chinese) and CM for this device, but since it's not a western phone I guess we'll have to settle with stock.
Hope this helps.
A few hours has gone by and without doing any backups I replaced some system apps and now I can bearly work the phone! Haha.. Thou shall not do this sort of thing after 2 h sleep.
Anyway, don't be afraid of doing what I wrote in the previous post, it worked just fine! I'm hoping you'll do it, it's the only way I can think of to get the system files back. :-S
Since there seem to be no one but you and me who have bought there phones..
edit: Sorted out my problem, got it running again! However, if you are going to root it, please do share the stock files! :-S

to use virtual memory you would have to root it and plus you cant get that much more ram with virtual memory, 256mb of ram on a 4.2.2 phone? i hope you got a good deal for it because 256mb will get you nowhere with nowadays google play apps updates hogging all the ram.
Some more info. Appearently the phone is also called "Nanex" and/or Z18 Mini Smartphone.. Maybe it's called different things in different regions?
Move to SD card SUCCESSFUL!
Im so glad there was this thread, it seems like nobody else knows about this awesome little phone!
I followed the instructions that "pingaan" posted and it worked! now i can install as many apps to SD card as i want, awesome!
I'm glad I could help.
I've been using this device for about a week now and I have to say that the stock rom is horrible! There are many flaws and no updates incoming, as far as I know.
Another disappinting thing is that the screen material is >VERY< easily scratched so DO NOT order this phone without screen protection.
I am going to order a new one cause I love that it's so small! It's even smaller than my old "dumbphone", but I don't see myself using stock rom. I'd rather not use the phone at all.
I'm going to try to compile a custom recovery and port a suitable CM11 rom to this device for proper usage.
Don't expect it any time soon, cause my days are normally filled up with family, house and work.
Regards.

everything about this phone is pretty good for the size, except the ram is so ridiculously small, i've tried to add virtual ram with link2sd and partitioned sd card, but apparently link2sd won't work without hacing the bootloader unlocked first, but i can't unlock the bootloader as it seems like there doesn't seem to be proper drivers for this phone.
if you are planning to do a custom rom on there, please let us know how when and how you managed to get the bootloader unlocked plz! :fingers-crossed:
Since I noticed the screen being easily scratched I ordered a new device from a different retailer, along with a plastic screen protection.
There is an interesting thing about this. The bootanimations are different and there's also a reboot option in the powermenu on the new.
Maybe the bootloader already is open? I mean, if you can change the power menu you need to alter the framework, right? The bootanimation is quite easy to change with root access however.
Have you checked the built-in recovery? There is actually an option for installing "update.zip"..
Do you have a proper app2sd script that I can try out on my old device?
Cheers...
Anyone have a backup of the ROM for ratech72_wet_rlk_lca ?? I plugged in a MTK Tool and I seem to have corrupted the system ;-( ... Didn't even get a chance to backup!

Anyone find a copy of the ROM I need it also?
Hello, i am trying to find /not really succefull job/ some custom rom for this kind of tablet. It is for my son so its not really something special, however, the main problem is, that firmware of prestigio for this device, does not support writing to SD (well known problem).
Even when i pick in settings, to save datas to SD, it doesnt work. Its simply in ROM like that. So i cant download more games or enable updates to system. Therefore i would like to ask, if there is any way to load there some custom firmware, rom (i dont really need 3g, or camera). Maybe cyanogen or idk. Simply, could anyone help me ?
Thank you very much !

Hello everyone,
First let me start of by saying that I love this forum, I love the idea of it; having all android consumers' needs all grouped in one place I wish they were different websites as focused as this one. And I am thankful for every person in this pseudo system that helps everyday, make it a better version of what it is.
I've been considering rooting my device for months. Now, I finally have some time to get to it.
I saved up some questions while browsing the forums, I am hoping you could save 2 minutes to answer whatever question you think your best suited to answer. (I am patient )
1. If I freeze/ delete bloatware from my device, does it become aosp?
2. After downloading, can I download Aosp as my ROM or do I have to use a custom rom like Lineage, MIUI, etc ...?
3. When I Am using a ROM + an android launcher, do the ressources(Battery, memory, ...) used by both add up. What I am asking is it always better to use a rom without a launcher?
4. What are CAFs?
5. what exactly is CMW or TWRP?
6. If I already have greenify, do I need doze? or is it redundant? (stock rom is kitkat 4.4)
I'll be posting again, because, I don't want to brick my phone (SIGH!), untill then have a good day.
CWM and TWRP are custom recoveries that let you install zip files. Custom ROMs and other mods come in zip form so you need TWRP if you want to install anything like Roms.
What device are you planning on rooting?

1) no, if you freeze/remove bloatware it does not make AOSP.
2) The ROMs you use will depend on what(if anything) is available for your model number, there may be no custom ROMs or there may be up to 10 or 20 custom ROMs. It just depends on whether anyone has chosen to build ROMs and what type of ROM(s) they choose to build. This is all determined by the model number of your device.
3) Yes, everything that is installed, loaded and running will use battery. I don't exactly undrstand why or what you are asking this for.
4) http://openattitude.com/2016/01/18/android-6-custom-roms-aosp-vs-caf/
https://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/help/caf-vs-caf-t3341502
5) CWM(ClockWorkMod) and TWRP(Team Win Recovery Project) are custom recoveries used to flash ROMs, make backups, restore backups, wipe the devices partitions, adb access and management, etc..
6) Greenify freezes apps and Doze puts the device in deep sleep so it's OK to use them together as long as it doesn't cause a conflict, it may depend on how you arrange each of their settings.
