Installation instructions
You must be on 4.5.3 bootloader. Instructions on how to downgrade to 4.5.3 HERE.
1. After you're on 4.5.3, root via kingroot.
2. Transfer the twrp img file to the sdcard directory (you can rename it to twrp.img if that makes things easier for you, but for this, I'm sticking with the original filename).
3. Connect Fire HD to computer with adb and allow usb debugging.
4. Enter the following commands and allow root access when prompted on tablet:
Code:
adb shell
su
5. Once you see "[email protected]:/ #", you should be able to enter this command:
Code:
dd if=/sdcard/twrp-3.0.2-0-ariel.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p7
If you're still seeing "[email protected]:/ $" you need to allow root access from your device.
6.
Code:
exit
exit
adb reboot recovery
If you're upgrading from 2.8.6.0:
1. Go to Install
2. Select "Images..." at the bottom
3. Select the twrp 3.0.2-0 img from internal storage
4. Select the Recovery partition and swipe to flash
5. Go back to the homescreen and go to the reboot menu
6. Select "Recovery" and you should be good to go!
You can try flashify, but I prefer the adb way (and I've never tried it). It's a personal preference.

Hi I was wondering if this version of TWRP is configured to run with lollipop/Fire OS 5
Heck yeah! Been stuck on 2.8.6, upgrade time!
No sdcard slot on my fire
Hello
I was trying to get twrp on my fire hd 6. I am stuck on the step where it says to put the twrp-3.0.2-0-ariel.img file into the SD card directory. My fire dose not have a phisical sd card slot and the sd card directory does not show up when I plug my fire into my computer. Where would be the best place to put the twrp file and what would I change in the command "dd if=/sdcard/twrp-3.0.2-0-ariel.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p7" to make it work for internal storage.
Thanks, Ace

Old question, but answer is still relevant to anyone installing on a device without an SD card slot: the "Internal storage" directory on my Fire HD 7 4th gen (no SD card slot) reads as "/sdcard/" anyway - so I entered the DD command exactly as shown and it worked perfectly with the TWRP image file sitting in the internal storage directory. <3

I've just pulled out my HD 7 4th gen, got Play Store w/o root. Just curious, what did you do with TWRP once you had it? I'm trying to decide how far to go with modifying this thing. Thanks.
edit: saw what you did with twrp in the lineage- 11.0 thread.
Just updated to 3.0.2-0 from 2.8.6.0, worked great, thanks!

Sounds like your system is corrupt, and there is an update.zip left over from an OTA upgrade. When the stock recovery boots, it always installs update.zip then shuts down. Unfortunately the OTAs don't get deleted after installation, so if you ever get a problem, you can't enter recovery.
Here's what you need to do:
1. Download http://www.doc.ic.ac.uk/~grm08/ideapad/cwm-5.0.2.7-rev3-ideapad-a1.zip
2. Rename this file to update.zip, and copy it onto a micro SD card.
3. Boot up into recovery again. You'll see it do the same thing where it installs the update.zip and then shuts down, but this time it will install Clockworkmod Recovery.
4. Boot into recovery again. The Clockworkmod recovery won't automatically do an install then shutdown, you'll be given a menu instead.
5. First, try using the volume keys to scroll down to "wipe data/factory reset", and press the power key to select it. Try booting up normally again - this may have fixed your problem.
6. If this hasn't fixed the problem, get the 2643 zip file for your region from http://download.lenovo.com/slates/a1/OTA/ - copy this file on to your SD card, boot up into recovery, choose "install zip from SD card", then "choose zip from SD card" then choose the zip file that you just downloaded from Lenovo. It will install a fresh copy of the system, which should hopefully work after you reboot into the normal system.
If this doesn't fix it, or you get stuck, please post back with a description of what you tried and what happened.

In this situation you wouldn't expect the recovery to "work" in the normal way. After you've installed the Clockworkmod update.zip you'll have a working recovery again.

You didn't mention here but I saw in another thread that you attempted to use the leaked ICS installer which has messed up your A1.
If that is what you did, then you can look at these instructions for producing a bootable SD card that will allow you to boot into clockworkmod recovery and flash an OTA to get everything back to stock.

Yeah, you're going to have to install linux in a virtualbox. VFAT is built on top of the FAT filesystem.

If you read those instructions I gave, you'll see that there's a script called omap3-mkcard.sh that partitions and formats the SD card for you.

I got a question, will I be able to move my apps from internal storage to SD card after doing the installation?
I'm currently using your SlimDroid v5.1 and it seems that I can't move any app to SD Card.
Everytime I move an app, it says 'Couldn't move app'.
Did I miss anything?
Please help.
Thanks!

TWRP and Root for the Vernee Apollo Lite is finally here! Surprise, surprise! :laugh:
Disclaimer:
Tested with Vernee Apollo Lite OTA ''K15TB-A.A.vR1C.N1.160727'' from 27th July 2016.
Conditions:
- Download SPFlashTool
- Download Driver (If you use Windows 8.x or Windows 10 you have to deactivate the driver signature -> Tutorial)
- Download TWRP 3.2.1-0
- Download SuperSU
Install TWRP and Root:
1. Place SuperSU to internel storage
2. Shut down your phone
3. Extract Driver and run InstallDriver.exe
4. Extract SPFlashTool
5. Extract TWRP 3.2.1-0
6. Open SPFlashTool folder and run flash_tool.exe
7. Click on "Scatter -loading" and select the "MT6797_Android_scatter.txt" file
8. It should look like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Note: There must be only a checkmark at "recovery"
9. Click the green "Download" button on SPFlashTool
10. Connect your phone to your computer with an USB 2.0 port and wait until SPFlashTool shows "FINISH". Now TWRP should work, otherwise repeat steps 6-9
If you want Root:
11. Shut down your phone
12. Hold Volume(+) + Power Button for 5 seconds to come to mini recovery
13. Navigate with Volume(+) to "recovery" and confirm with Volume(-). Now you should be in TWRP main menu
14. Choose "Install Zip" and navigate to the SuperSU file on the internal storage and flash it
15. After successful flash, reboot your phone
Now you should have TWRP and Root installed! Good work!
Hello,
I successfully rooted my device using the above information.
Installed SuperSU is 2.76.
Is it save to update SuperSU to the last stable version 2.79?
Has anyone done that already? Via Google Play Store or direct via TWRP?
Thanks
I've did it on a custom rom and it works without any problems.

Installation Instructions:
Fastboot Install Method:
You will need the platform-tools from the Android SDK on your computer. Find the Android command line tools section on the page linked and install the SDK tools package. From the SDK Manager, download only the platform-tools to get adb and fastboot binaries.
Windows users will need proper drivers installed on their computer. You can try the Naked ADB drivers or the Universal ADB drivers if you don't already have a working driver installed
On your device, go into Settings -> About and find the Build Number and tap on it 7 times to enable developer settings. Press back and go into Developer Options and enable USB debugging. From your computer, open a command prompt and type:
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
You should now be in fastboot mode.
Download the correct image file and copy the file into the same folder as your adb and fastboot binaries. Rename the image to twrp.img and type:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
Code:
fastboot reboot

once i install twrp then just root like normal flashing supersu or magisk etc??
for those who are wondering
I installed the bootloader unlock apk and went well
Then installed this twrp recovery and went fine
Whilest inside TWRP I MTPd over magisk 16.2 and installed it and it went fine
Rebooted system and it worked fine.
all apps work and none of my tango or ar core apps were effected that i can see all work.
root apps work everything works.
I have the unlocked A002 version thanks to the op who made this recovery or wherever it came from i have been waiting for this and everything works fine
So the only question is :
Will it work without installing Unlock.apk from ASUS? So I could proceed with a usual process of rooting ( twrp > supersu > magisk ) ?

570KL is the Verizon version, I doubt it works since you cannot, to my knowledge, unlock it
ya you have to use the unlock apk which to my surprise went off without any issues and its idiot proofed pretty well.this phone is optimized obviously differently than any other snapdragon 820\821 ive ever used. its the smoothest experience still today.... my point is i dont think i would want to upgrade to Oreo on this particular phone because the smooth experience is second to only my pixel 2 xl but not by much i cant get it to lag its perfect. makes you wonder why lg devices and others with the same chip set are so slow and unusable... take animations out of the equation and its ridiculously fast. I guess what i was getting at is they say you can't upgrade when you unlock the boot-loader with that apk and thats fine with me for this phone only.
also
apparently this phone when upgraded to Oreo tango will be removed i have been told. so ya i will be staying on android N .
Hello, thanks I flashed successfully the recovery but when I ran it it gone to the stuck dead android (no command). Why that?

This tool is not meant to be used on Android devices with dm-verify or Android Verify Boot (AVB) enabled
Every Android device has a stock recovery installed. That default recovery typically at least offers you the 4 options
reboot system now
apply update from sd card
wipe data factory reset
wipe cache partition
thus you can place any valid update.zip in device's SD-card slot and update your Android from external SD-card.
Because being in recovery mode Android isn’t loaded, the Android system files are not placed in memory, which means they can be accessed, edited and replaced.
That fact allows Android users to enable ADB on their devices what natively support ADB, if they haven't done it yet, for whatever reason.
Download the signed ADB.Enabler.OTA.ZIP from here . IMPORTANT: Rename it to UPDATE.ZIP before you make use of it.
If you get error "Signature verification failed" means that OEM/Carrier blocked to flash a 3rd-party OTA. You would need to have a Custom Recovery like CWM/TWRP already installed and use that to flash the ADB.Enabler.OTA.

got inspired by @ehteshamxa and created some flashable zip which does NOT modify system files. instead own files added
Code:
/system/etc/init/99userinit.rc
/system/xbin/99userinit_daemon
/sdcard/userinit.sh
/sdcard/rsa_copy
Instructions:
- install userinit-rsa_copy-flashable.zip
- install Magisk.zip
- copy adbkey.pub to SD Card

is root required?
No root required. Magisk is recommended for easy avb/dm-verity disable, but of course one can also place the files manually by unpack/repack (simg2img/sdat2img) flash tool method.
optional:
- copy sqlite3 binary to SD Card
(get it from here credits: @DiamondJohn)
- copy Magisk-v23.0.apk to SD Card
(credits: topjohnwu you all know of course)
have added example code in userinit.sh that can authorize su permissions for adb shell. useful on broken screen in case one can't get scrcpy to work on boot-loop
(credits: @mirfatif for magisk.db injection)
rsa_copy works also from emulated storage if one edit the path in first line:
Code:
sdcard=/sdcard
on locked screen external MicroSD Card is only available location as MTP might not work. in that case place files from PC card reader and insert back
remember the whole purpose of that backdoor is inaccessible userdata partition, otherwise one could just add rsa_copy or 99userinit_daemon to /data/adb/service.d systemless-ly instead (or most straightforward inject /data/misc/adb/adb_keys directly).
once got su shell one can backup partitions, for example:
Code:
adb shell su -c "cat /dev/block/dm-0 2> /dev/null" > userdata.img
