Hangouts, Allo, Messenger apps confusion? What's the difference, and can we unify? - General Questions and Answers

I posted this in the reddit android section and they removed it because it "didn't benefit the community". That's bs because its a real problem that I know there's general confusion over. I rephrased and reposted on reddit, but in case they don't want to be helpful I decided to post the same question here.
This question is to help the whole android community. I've heard this question from others, so I decided to ask it for anyone whom may need it answered.
I tried to message someone with Google's new app Allo, but people don't seem to be getting my messages. Do both sides need Allo, or does it work as a alternative to the regular sms app.
Also when I use the regular sms Messenger app, people respond and it comes through the Hangouts app. I tried to change the sms settings within the Hangouts app but it doesn't seem to be helping.
When I use Google Now, I don't know what app it uses or if there is a way to choose which app Google Now will use.
There's general confusion on this and it would be awesome if someone who's versed in this can spell it out for us. How can we unify our apps? Can we use Allo as our default sms messenger app?
Don't remove this post. I posted a legitimate question that will benefit anyone who's not sure exactly what the differences are between Allo, Hangouts, and Messenger.

[Q] App for email, sms, skype, whatsapp, etc

Hi to all first.
I'm new in the forum.
My question is, if there is any app that shows messages from the abovementioned services under one surface. With a small app-logo so you know what "app" it belongs too.
I've looked in the market and in the forums here but there were only questions about messengers.
Samsung has something like this called "SocialHub" but it doesn't work.
Thanks

Complete sms integration with google voice?

Ok, I have dug and dug on this issue so I am turning to my fellow members to help me out a bit. On my wife's iPhone I have installed the sms and phone integration addons from here: GV Extensions for iPhone | SMS. This allows you to use the stock messaging application to send/receive texts. No special stuff is needed and it just plain works. What I would like to know is how can I accomplish this on my android phones? I currently have an Optimus V and just obtained a Triumph that I will be activating in the next day or two.
I strictly use Google Voice for my phonecalls/sms as I did not want to lose my cell number when I moved from AT&T to Virgin Mobile earlier in this year. So I have the GV app on the phone and I have it set to dial out so my # shows properly to the receiving party and I use it to send/receive texts. Well recently I have been trying out various apps like Iris and they only use the stock messaging app no matter what I have set in preferences. Plus lets be honest, the GV app leaves alot to be desired in terms of looks and it is laggy most of the time.
I know I can forward texts to email but that is just clunky at best. I can also send the sms's to my phones # via the GV interface but what about when I want to text someone that I don't normally text? I don't want to have to go through my entire phonebook and text people and hope they reply just to get the "gv textback #" that I then save to my contacts and set as sms default.
What I would LOVE to be able to do is just open the messages application, choose compose, select my contacts cell #, write a message, and when it sends it not hit my SMS at all but rather be sent directly through my data to GV and then to the recipient.
Is this possible? It seems odd that an iOS device can do this but an android can't. I know it should be but I know it may just be a matter of the right developer taking the time to do it. I would gladly pay the same price as I did for my wife's iPhone apps ($3/each) for this functionality on my androids. Anyone have any insight into this?

Sorry about that. I thought I put it in the most relevant location. Thanks for moving it though. Now just to see if anyone has an idea on how to do it!
Sorry - I don't have a solution for you, but I second this. I have been trying to find a way to do this for a long time.
BUMP
I really do love Google Voice and can not figure out why they offer a better solution for iOS than Android. Major beef with G over this, especially since they offer partnered with Sprint 6 months ago to offer more integration and have not offered the same option to other vendors or the open source community.

Well, TextMarkter.co.uk provides solution for any Google contact to SMS, you may refer to textmarketer.co.uk/software-partners/ as well.

[Q] SMS app that indicates received/sent?

Got a Desire Z with Cyanogenmod 7.
The SMS app displays only with whom I was in contact but it does not indicate if I received the SMS from that person or if I sent it.
I tried a couple apps from market but they were all alike, including GO, Pansi, one other I already forgot. (Plus they had tons of features I don't need, ad supported. I need something *simple*.)
Suggestions appreciated.
I don't really get what you are asking for. Sms to and from one person are grouped in conversation. You can see which sms you sent by looking at the alignment of the person's picture (or placeholder for that). If you wrote it, its right-aligned.
I believe the OP is asking like the other NON-Smart phone SMS display like you see messages in folders with Inbox and Sent items.
Well in android, I have no need for that coz grouping is the next generation and much logically displays your logical conversation.
Still you can do all your SMS tasks with this.
Did you try Handcent sms app?

Facebook chat on andriod app

Hi,
I am making an app and I want to use Facebook chat in it. Meaning I want to enable for people can log in using Facebook and select friends and message them. I tried looking in the developers section of Facebook and couldnt find anything related to chatting. Is this not possible? Anyone have any information on this? I think its possible since apps like Go!Chat does it.
Thanks!
Sorry if this is the wrong section I am new here.
It is possible, but considering that Facebook themselves already have an app dedicated for this, there isn't much interest in developing another chatting app, especially if it can only pull from a person's Facebook contacts.

Or probably you need to contact the fb business unit for a partnership agreement

Default SMS issue 6.0

I tried searching for this but it's so specific and I'm quite possibly using the wrong terms.
Let both of my LG G3 update to Android 6.0 (D85030p) and the default SMS messenger has stopped working with my text banking and retirement balance texts.
They will send and receive texts from other people but not these 6 digit numbers. No response from either one even trying to re-register the phone with each institution.
Google Messenger works just fine but lacks the only feature I like about the default G3 SMS, the ability to lock/keep a reply from being deleted. Even when deleting an entire conversation, the locked replies within are saved. That is the only feature I am missing.
Can anyone recommend another SMS app that has this feature or maybe there is a setting somewhere with the default SMS that I'm just not seeing ?
There are a million SMS apps in the play store and trying to read each one for details gets old after about 20 minutes. Hopefully there is a fix or another app that has this feature that someone here knows about.
Thank you.
Guess I'll answer my own question.
The Verizon messaging app has the features I'm looking for.
