[APP][FREE][BETA][5.+] PixelCam - Record videos with awesome effects - Android Apps and Games

Hi guys!
Pixelcam is an app that allows you to apply awesome effects to your camera directly while filming or taking pictures.
I started working on this a long time ago and gave up a few times because the android Camera APIs are such a pain in the ass for developers (for me at-least).
The idea came from when I was testing out stuff in libgdx and found out about the things shaders could do in opengl.
I've been babysitting this project for too long. With the latest news from google and prisma, there is one thing left for me to do, just release it and handle the feedback like a man.
PixelCam is an app that applies effects to your camera, it allows you to record video/take pictures with opengl shaders applied directly to the output, so no post-processing is needed and the possibilities are truly endless (Or so I like to think)
I have been able to test on oneplus, samsung and huawei devices, so all crash and glitch reports are welcome, it's the only way I can fix issues and make this app better! Please give it to me raw & uncut.
The app is totally free and has no ads.
ps. the fact that it's the worst named app at this moment is just bad timing I should have released it much earlier

Pirate Skirmish - My first real game

I just published the demo for my first attempt at a decent Android game...it was developed on a G1, on which it's barely playable, but I'm really interested to know how/if it performs on other devices. If you're bored please take a look.
There is definitely a lot of room for improvement in the AI and general optimization, but I really want to make sure I get any stability issues cleared up before I go digging through that code again, I'm still open to criticism/suggestions, though!
If you are able to get it to crash, please give me as much detail as you can.
Niiice will download now
Edit Pretty good game actualy (oh and btw im first rating and comment :L )
Looks good, not bad ! Graphics could be improved here and there, but it's a good concept ! Looking forward to the finished game.
Thanks guys! Yeah I'm really not much of an artist, I don't consider them final, but I don't know that I'll be able to improve on them much either My big plans for the full version are a lot more maps, a few more special attacks, improved AI, and multiplayer if I'm able to get it sorted out.
Pretty good! Glad to see you developing a high quality game!
PS I sent you a little message.
Has potential, it hangs up my moto droid. Hard to negotiate between screesn.
So how do i get this game on my Hero? Just take a picture of that barcode picture and then what?

Does it hang during gameplay itself or during the map loading screen? I'm halfway through a complete re-write of the AI that I hope will improve the framerate (right now the pathfinding alone takes something like 60% of the G1's CPU)

If you have the barcode scanner or goggles app you can scan that image which translates to a market link, or just search for Pirate Skirmish on the market
Awesome Concept!
Works flawlessly on my EVO. I do agree that the graphics could use a little sprucin' but overall the concept is what sets it apart. And multiplayer would make me like the happiest person alive!
Great game, keep up the amazing work!
Works nicely on my Galaxy S, no issues/bugs, a few comments
- green highlighting around which ship you've currently selected is too hard to see
- perhaps require a double-tap to change ship
- maybe slow down gamespeed a little, it's a bit hard to micro.
You could use an exit method, at least back doesn't work on my SGS. Also, a write up, at least something brief on how things work would be lovely, at least if you don't want to turn-off the average Android person who stumbles upon your game.
I just installed the game on my an Evo and it works.
Suggestions:
- Instructions on how to play, move, goals.
- The two player mode was hard navigate. Attempting to select the second player brought the first player to the second players location. Confirming movement when over a second player would be a plus.
- Background sound, maybe waves, music, ocean sound.
- Instead of pumping up the graphics, keep it simple, but decorate the maps.
- Add a story plot at the intro.
Well thats my opinion, love the work, I hope we'll see more. Thanks for sharing.
Great feedback guys, thanks! I've whipped up a How-to guide and posted it on the site (I can't post links yet I guess, but you can get to it from the market)
alovell83, the back button issue should be fixed in 1.3, can you confirm if you're still having issues after upgrading? (Actually introduced a new bug in the process, now it's a little too eager to quit when the back button is hit)
I think it's time I get to work on a settings menu, since everyone is going to have a different preference, so far I'm thinking adjustable HUD/icon sizes, ship selection method (tap, double tap, long press), and game speed. Any other suggestions?
I'm also planning to add a few new special items in the near future. I've got a couple ideas, but if anyone has suggestions for this, now's the time!
Back to the graphics, the castle graphic is probably the best example of what I'm ultimately aiming for, clean and simple...but throwing in some terrain decorations is a good idea, and I'm sure it will help a lot towards bringing the maps to life.
kinda reminds me of a long abandoned game i used to play called world of pirates online
this game has a lot of potential!
Bout to check it out. Market lagging for some reason
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
just downloaded the game. it's pretty good game, just need a li'l work here and there. especially the animation. and one other thing. you should put hot to play. it took me a while to figure how to play.
Well it works good so far on the hero. And I have seen apps way worse that you have to pay for. So by the time your done I'm sure it will be great.

Any way you could provide an APK? I don't know what's going on with my phone but the Market keeps crashing every time I try to DL Pirate Skirmish... not other apps, just that one. Weird.
Sure thing, here is the .apk for version 1.3.2 just published including the How to Play link from the main menu, thanks again everyone.
Since 1.3.1 I haven't seen any crashes in the dev console, but as far as I know these only show up for 2.2 devices. So again, if anyone is getting a repeatable crash, please send me the logcat output and a quick description of how you caused it. If you don't have adb installed on your computer there is another great app called Catlog in the market that will let you save and send logs from your phone.
Awesome, thanks! I'll report back after trying it out a bit.
Update: I got a "This application closed unexpectedly" within a minute or so... I was trying to attack a castle and I was tapping it over and over. I am on 2.2 using a Desire ROM by mattc on an HD2. HD2 normally doesn't have any issues that standard Android devices don't have, but who knows depending on how the app works... I don't have ADB, but I'll go get Catalog and send logs if I can figure it out.

[Q] App Development Help

Thanks for the help!

Hi,
I am trying to develop an app, with little experience of WP7, on Visual Studio Ultimate 2010, in C#. The app I am trying to develop needs to be able to take your pulse using the flash of the camera to illuminate your finger and then detect the changes in brightness to calculate it. To do this, would I be better off recording a video for like ten seconds in the background (the UI will just be text that says place your finger over the lens) or would I need to use a while loop and have it take a picture like every 40 milliseconds then have will flip through the pictures and see how often a dark spot comes up or something? Any code examples or links would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Well, I didn't caught the idea of the app you want to develop, but if I understood you right and you want to measure pulse by taking photos/videos of a finger, it looks like some kind of science fiction. Just imagine the accuracy needed for such calculations and how will you keep you finger still.
Talking about video: if I am not mistaken all the currently existing background agents are restricted to use Camera API, may be I'm a bit wrong here.
For learning C# for Windows Phone 7 it is good to begin from MSDN and bunch of code samples stored there or a book.
Best regards.
This is actually already being done on other smartphone platforms; hell, people are using smartphone sensors for all kinds of crazy things, including a number of medical applications.
Given that the highest pulse you're ever likely to encounter is about 240 BPM / 4Hz (250ms between beats), 40ms resolution seems more than needed. That said, that's only 25 FPS, while I believe the video camera shots at 30 FPS (33ms). However, taking pictures probably won't work so well because of the need to JPEG-compress the images after taking them (I think the camera API *always* does this, though I might be wrong). Using the video stream API seems like a much better idea.
You shouldn't need the background APIs at all; not sure why the guy above me talked about them. My understanding is that these apps just sample for a few seconds, enough to get an accurate reading.
You may get better info in the App Development sub-section of the WP7 D&H forum. That said, don't expect people to write your code for you, especially for something where there's a reasonable chance of it being a commercially viable Marketplace app. I suggest you start with MSDN, but reading the docs and looking at the examples. You can also go look up tutorials and example code online for using the video APIs.

[APP][2.1+] Sprite Studio 0.1.9a

Hi everyone,
just wanted to show you guys a new app I've been working on for quite some time.
When I started the project I was working on a real-time-strategy-game for android, but creating all the assets took me so much time, that I soon began looking out for good spriting- / pixel-art- / painting- program for my mobile device in order to be able to work on my sprites when on the train or somewhere not in front of my home-computer.
As I was pretty much disappointed with what the market had to offer (no offense against the creator of pixelesque: that app simply didn't exist at that time), I started work on an own program.
It took me a very long time to actually get the app halfway done (because I have been very busy with university and other stuff) but a few days ago I finally released a first version of it and since I am working very hard on improving the app wherever possible.
Youtube announcement video: youtube.com/watch?v=gbw-I6Z-1w0
The app on google play: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ch.subgate.spritestudio
If you guys like spriting/pixel-art please check out the app, I'd love to hear your feedback/wishes/suggestions.
Thanks in advance.
Features I'm already working on:
- Color palettes
- Mirror-Painting-Mode
- Layer
- Onionskin for animations
- Spritemap autopacking
Nice App / UI could be better...
Hello isam2k,
first of all i would like to let you know that i really think this app is great and you have several fantastic ideas in there. Nice work :good:
From a UI standpoint i think you could improve the overall experience.
For example the Create New Picture pop up dialog. Wouldn't it be nice if you'd offer 3 Icons for (32x32 / 64x54 / Custom)
Users could instantly choose one size and it would take away from making to much decisions out of the box.
I have tons of ideas for you wonderful app. If you like you can pm me.
cheers
David
@Neosushi68
Thanks a lot for your feedback. If you don't mind, just post your ideas right here, maybe others will have good ideas as well and so they can immediately see what already has been suggested.
Offering pre-set sizes as well is actually a good idea, definitively a feature I am going to add (maybe not with buttons but with a spinner offering some presets).
Ok just had a force-close-report from a user. If you guys try out the app and a FC happens, please do not forget to send the report, this helps so much.
If, for some reason, you are unable to send me the report, then please post me the following information here:
[Device][ROM],
[ErrorMsg],
[Random error/Error in response to interaction]
[If interaction -> Describe last interaction]
[If random -> Describe app state (open dialogs, etc)
Thanks in advance.
Sam
Ok was really busy but I finally uploaded Sprite Studio 0.2.1b. This update basically introduces palettes and also comes along with some bugfixes.
If run into problems when using the palette editor, consider watching my tutorial video first:

[APP][4.4+] VR Theater for Cardboard

Hi everyone, and welcome to this discussion/announcements/support/whatever thread for VR Theater for Cardboard!
A few words about my app (which you can find it on Google Play), first.
I started this small app about a year ago, with the intent to create a virtual theater that would allow people to watch both 2D and 3D movies with the Google Cardboard, and despite not being that original as a project (it wasn't the first back then, and there are even more now), I'm very glad to say, that it's having its small group of followers.
People seem to like how configurable the app is, the number of 3D formats it can play (it does panoramic and half panoramic movies too, did I mention that?) and, I hope, my dedication to support it.
Mind you, it's not all gold: the project is still work in progress and has some rough edges (mostly because it's just a hobby and while I'm having some great help on the graphics recently, I work on the code alone). The interface is hybrid (2D/VR), the virtual scene is bare to the bone, and the video compatibility is very limited, but it's only a matter of time before I iron those issues out as well!
Enough for the presentations, anyway!
If you are looking forward to provide feedback, suggestions, or just to say "Hi!", you have found the right place.
Me?! I will post to this thread new releases and announcements, answer questions and partake in discussions, popping out at the very least every couple of days, with a frequency that will depend from how life (and active development) will be be treating me at the time.
New version out!
A new minor release of VR Theater for Cardboard is out!
New in this version:
there is a new option in town: it's called "Direct video rendering", and turning it on should increase the performances while reduce overheating
fixed a bug where standing still while watching a movie would trigger the device suspend
replaced the warning header in the options with a snack-bar that shows only once for app execution
Thanks to Giuseppe Guarneri for testing the rendering option for me, Mehdi Benchaaban for reporting the suspend bug and for his precious feedback, and Marcin Kowalski who just didn't got nearly enough "thank you"s for all he did!
The long journey to a software decoding implementation (part 1/many)
For those interested, I managed to open a movie with the ffmpeg library and read it's streams information in Android.
Another good new is that the libraries contribute to about 8Mb, so it might be possible to include them in the apk directly, without expansion files (which is where they will land eventually, but doing so now, would be just another speed bumper).
It's a long path, that to a working software decoding implementation, but at least I'm moving along it.

[APP][7.0+] Camera X - Simple camera application with tons of features

Description
New generation camera application builded with a proper UI/UX and updated with some non-common features has Live-preview filters, live-photos and face recognition used to take captures.
Technical description
CameraX is a camera application builded over Camera 2 API. The application makes uses of all the features provided by the API based on the hardware of the device running it. It also manages all the preview system using OpenGL instead of the native way. Being able to implement real time filters(on next release ), selfie indicator and on-preview features. It also works on some modes with Scene Detection and Face Detection using the tools provided by Machine learning Firebase tool.
Hardware limitations
Is possible that your device will not support the application. if your device is not supported it means that the Camera 2 API is not fully supported by your manufacturer. Brands like Xiaomi, Huawei and Samsung who develop their own Firmware still using the old API 1 and works over it. On this case, I can't help providing a manual apk. The API itself requires a full implementation over it.
Features
- HD Camera: Up to 4K support for video and photo if your device supports it.
- Live Photos: See your pictures come to life on Google Photos.
- Photobooth: Take selfies with your friends only smiling to the camera.
- Manual Mode: Modify your ISO, time exposure, compensation and white balance for the best pictures.
- Record in Slow-motion in supported devices.
- Create amazing Time-lapses.
- Focus: Auto & Manual.
- Burst Mode: Capture infinite pictures with out burst mode.
- Support for RAW/DNG.
- Record in multiple FPS: Choose between 30 or 60FPS.
- Gesture Management: Use your volume keys to take pictures or control the zoom .
- Frontal Mirror: Add a mirrored effect to your frontal camera pictures.
- Grid: Take the best pictures with our Grid options.
Download APK:
play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.camerax.camera
Feel free to leave any feedback, we are looking forward for updates and improvements on the application. Also, being a hardware related app makes it hard to test without a huge quantity of devices.
Thank you so much in advance!

Thank you so much anyway! Will write this down on the description aswell

Hello @kos25k ! Yes, the idea is to compete with the actual Google Camera(the open one, not the one integrated on PIXEL devices). In the end right now apart of some really specific features. For now we want to close an stable version with all the features highlighted and then focus on more "Image processing" features, such as develop our own HDR/Nightshot etc.
Anyway, for now we are using the same API than google, and the actual application highlight a lot of the App store top applications. It lack the Manufacturer custom implementation of each in-device camera. But in the end is the cost of build an application available for tons of devices.
Any feedback or desired feature is totally welcome! Thank you so much!
nice!my inquiry always was, why noone camera apk on market has the most known spec, google hdr+! is this impossible to be implemented in a camera app?The difference is really great..

More than do an HDR(HDR+), it's to do one that is fast enought to don't bother the user. You can easily create a HDR, Nightshot, or high processing quality images using OpenCV(FastCV on Android case), but these libraries takes seconds(10+) to process this images. Google does it using their own algorith with a huge native processing image team behind, that's why they don't need 2-3 cameras and they can do a Bokeh, HDR, nightshot and everything using a single 1, because their knowledge on that matter is amazing. Other manufacturers such as Samsung, Hauwei etc use their own system or third party libraries(from companies has Morpho).
So, in summary, yes, it's possible to do an hdr+, and we are working on it. But we want to launch something that will process under 3-4 seconds at least to give a good user experience.
Thank you so much for your feedback kos25k!
i wish the best bro! If you manage a similar hdr+ experience, i believe you will then have the 1st best custom camera app on android phones!especially if u can solve gcam phone models compatibility issues, then you will re-write the rules from scratch!!
Feature request
- manual folder selection
- one time adsfree payment
- nicer icons when switching between modes
Also
Empty .mp4 videos are created in my DCIM folder . What are them?

Hello Mijorus,
first, thank you so much for the feedback and the request. I really though this thread was already dead.
- We are working on a folder selection feature already, it should come next month.
- Same goes with payments. We want to include the possibility for single payment to remove the ads. However, we want to finish cleaning the bugs and gathering all the feedback we are receiving recently before include the payments.
- What did you didnt like from the icons? They are too simple? We try to follow a Google Material looking with the icons, but maybe make something more fancy would be great. Any advice or idea would be great. We will take the feedback and let it know to our designer.
Thank you so much for the feedback, and feel free to send us more requests here or to [email protected]
PD: Regarding the .mp4 files you mean they are generated when you take photos with Live photos enabled. But they should be automatically deleted after add the metadata to the headers of the JPG images. We will give a look to check if these videos are not being properly deleted.

Hi,
icons are a bit dated IMO, however that is not at all a priority, especially if you want to keep that look and feel.
Motion photos are disabled, but I see some .mp4 empty files (0 bytes) in the DCIM folder, they are scanned by my gallery app and spam the photo list with empty white files

Hello Mijorus,
The last release has already a payment option to remove ads forever. Also a fix was implemented to prevent that ghost .mp4 files to be generated. Regarding the folder picker, we will implement it on the next release.

Hello Kos!
I know that the post is a bit old, but just FYI we already have a base HDR and HDR+ implemented on the app. It doesn't have the quality of google camera (and its far from it), but we are working on it. Feel free to let us know any other request or suggestion.
Also, any review or Play Store punctuation really help us a lot, so if any user is happy with the application we will be really glad if you could leave us a comment!
Thank you so much
The issue with empty files being detected by gallery apps persists for me, I would suggest to move them in an hidden directory
Suggestion for hdr and bug report
1) phone Xperia x(f5122 camera is 23 MP) supports camera api 2 except Raw. The app doesn't let me click with full res (23 MP) but clicks botchy compressed 8MP which don't look good and are very small in size
2)suggestion for hdr+
So Ive used this app called hedge cam 2 and it has an option called reduced noise mode which takes several photos in burst (number can be selected) and averages them. The results are absolutely stunning. The images have no noise at all almost and in some cases better than gcam hdr+. Only problem is it takes too long to capture. So I've though of something.. There is another app called camera mx it has feature shoot the past.. If you can combine the above two we can get many images ready before you hit the shutter for hdr+ effect.
Just an idea ?!
