I picked mine up on March 25th and since I'm not due for an upgrade until this September I decided to purchase via the edge program. I'm still on the fence about the edge program and supposedly I have 6 more days to return the phone and cancel the edge upgrade. Anyone else get their M8 using Edge and if so what are your feelings about it? Also if anyone's been using Edge for a while now your input is appreciated too. Thanks!

I've been using it since the m7 came out, no qualms with it. Raises your bill a bit. Got this on edge as well.

Got mine on Edge. Was planning to buy it but when I added the 14.99 x12 +40 something initial it works out to me about 20 more overall. For me it was worth knowing I can turn my phone in after a year as I always want the newest phone.

My bill went down by 2 dollars by going with edge, so it's a win in my book. Did you get the 10 or 25(if over 10gigs) bill credit? That makes it a no brainer for me.
I had 8 GB of data they upped me to 10 and said my bill would be the same

IMO, the edge is only good to get on if you are either getting a cheaper phone and want to stay off contract, really want to stay off contract with a more expensive phone and not have to pay the large off contract price up front, or you like to upgrade phones a lot and have the money to throw around for it.
For the M8, if they did it correctly, it would be like an extra 25 dollars a month for 2 years. It's supposed to be the off contract price broken out and financed basically over a 2 year period. You can upgrade at any time however, without renewing your contract by paying for at least half the cost off the phone and turning the phone in. Meaning for the M8, you'd have to pay at least 300 dollars totaly (either by 25 dollars a month or whatever the difference is between 300 and what you've paid so far when you want to upgrade).
Doesn't sound like a very good deal to me. But then again, I still have unlimited data If I was forced to give up my unlimited data for some reason, I might would consider the edge, but most likely I'd just buy an off contract more reasonable cost phone like a nexus line phone or something. The amount price of off contract phones is mostly ridiculous and way higher than they should be. These things could be sold for 300 - 350 dollars and the companies would still probably be making a profit, you can look at the Nexus 5 to tell that.
It really isn't a bad deal, you get a credit for $25 if on a 10gb or more plan, so your bill actually goes down just a little and you don't get locked in, I feel the edge program is a win win really

If you want out you have to pay off the phone and the etf... So, yeah... You're locked in.

Well I guess I mean locked down for upgrades, (where I live Verizon is the only carrier that gets great service so in my eyes I will always be with them) but it's nice to be able to upgrade when you want

How does it lock you in? My contract still expires this September.

I'm on the fence about edge
I got the phone on edge cause I can't bring myself to spend $600 for a phone that I make less than 10 calls a month on. I use it more for music and occasional video, some ebook reading, little bit of web browsing, and once and a blue GPS. So the question was is my unlimited data worth $600 today? I use an average of 1.5 Gigs/month on edge the gave me 6 Gigs for the same price + $14 month for the phone financing. I paid $80 down on the phone. My thinking was; sooner or later VZW will just stop offering unlimited data to month to month users. So how would I feel if I spent $600 and in 2 months time I get a letter from VZW saying Unlimited data is no longer a service tier that they offer on a month to month basis. Now I have a phone that I cant take to another carrier(?) And I still don't have unlimited.
I'm still thinking about going back to the store before next week and switching back. I wonder if they will charge me a restocking fee, to switch me, meaning return my phone then do a new sale or will they just let me pay the difference of the retail price and my down payment?
I got edge program since my Bill overall at the end of the day is the same as it was every month on ATT. Basically pay the same every month with Verizon as I did on ATT but can upgrade my device every year (or sooner if I wanted personally) and again pay the same every month. Versus paying less a month and $199 or whatever phones cost and be locked in a few years on that device.
I don't know how it effects your contract ending... But edge actually extended mine

If I check my contract end date it still says this September which means it didn't change since getting my M8 on edge

It's a promotion I believe that started around day 3 this device came out on Verizon. When in store I got $20/month credit. They said call customer service tomorrow and I will get $25/month credit a s long as I have Edge. I believe my Edge cost is about $25/month so with the $25/month credit it's like it's free and can upgrade whenever I want zero down. Win win, call customer service, was quick and easy, took 5min to enable this.

Yes I have 10gb plan shared with my wife. For some reason though store couldn't enable and said to call next day. Just figured it didn't start til next day? Did all this I believe the second day this device was released for Verizon.
Old news but I'll just leave this here. http://www.theverge.com/2013/7/18/4...hone-upgrade-plan-same-bad-ripoff-as-att-next
So I'm beginning to think this isn't the phone for me, especially since root seems unlikely.
I bought my phone from a Verizon store on April 10th. How long is the return policy? I thought i was told 30 days but I'm not positive.
Also, I did the "edge" program where i pay for the phone monthly ($25). They also had some special where my plan is discounted 25/month.
Does anyone have any experience or any info on what my options are as far as returning this thing?
Galaxy S6 (Verizon)
Return window is 14 days.
I'd like to return mine and reactivate my note 4, but we are past are window.
Keep in mind that verizon or att may also not be the carriers for you either. If you count on having root then use tmobile or international phones on pre paid plans. Verizon and att have always kept their devices locked and are getting better at closing all the holes.

You are out of luck unfortunately. 14 days is strict. They DO NOT go around this typically

Im trying to figure something out. I traded my g4 with someone for their 128 gig s6. So they had the payment plan on the s6 and i didnt on my g4. The sprint people at the time of the swap said he would be getting a bill for the balance on the s6 if he got rid of it. We called customer support and found out that wasnt the case. So we swapped phones out ourselves online wirh my sprint no problems. I have swapped back and forth from my note edge to s6 no problems.
Now my question is, what happens if he stops paying on his bill or he goes bad and he still owes. Is the balance tied to the phone or the account? Because i remember when we were swapping he got a notice saying his account would still be billed for the s6.

You can move phones around inside the account as much as you want. If the phone leaves the account then you will be billed for the balance left on it. If you stop paying the bill your bill will keep adding up or go into collections. If you just cancel the line with easy pay on it then the whole balance for that device will be billed to you.
Ok so the guy i traded had easy pay on his account. I didnt have it. We traded and when he activated his old phone the esn on his s6(which was the phone he financed) said it was clean, So i took it. So ur saying he got a bill when he traded me for the remaining balance? But im wondering is there a risk of the esn going bad on the phone i got from him if he doesnt pay it off?
I have heard conflicting things on it. My understanding is the balance is tied to the account. Once the esn is on another account there is no way to tie the balance to it. Hope thats right. Ive had it for about 2 months and switched back from my note edge to my s6 this weekend no problems

Note: I take no responsibility if you try this and it doesn't work for you...
So this was totally accidental. But I essentially bought my Note 5 for $300 after trading in two other devices for it. I ordered the note 5 on the edge plan so I could take advantage of the $200 device trade-in. As soon as I got the phone, I paid off the remaining balance so that my monthly fee essentially stayed the same (actually, it somehow got cheaper). In essence, I bought the phone outright for $496 plus tax.
But then about a week or so later, I received a text message saying "Congratulations on buying a new Note 5, you are now eligible for a $200 trade-in" along with a promo code to enter at their website. Mind you, I was skeptical at first since I already traded a phone in, but I went ahead and gave it a shot anyway figuring I've got nothing to lose. I went to the website and put in the promo code (the value of my trade-in device jumped from $1 to $200 lol), received the packaging material in the mail, sent in a pos phone, and received a $200 verizon gift card. This brought my total out of pocket with tax down to $330 for a brand new Note 5. My next step is convincing them to unlock it as I will be doing a lot of international travelling and if they think I'm going to be paying Verizon international roaming fees they are out of their damn minds.
So while I hate Verizon for locking bootloaders, disabling features, and blocking Samsung pay, along with all of their other gimmicks, I am at least a little internally satisfied that I DID get my money's worth on this particular phone. Thank you Verizon. You still suck!

Verizon phones are globally unlocked now I believe. Has been that way for a while now.
This has been true for the past few releases since the note 2. However nobody I have talked to at Verizon has been able to give me a straight answer on whether or not the note 5 is factory unlocked which raises my suspicion. In the past, that information was readily available and was actually used as a selling point.

I got the same text. I wish I had a junk smartphone laying around. I thought about buying a phone on ebay, but didn't want to take the risk.

It is def unlocked. Verizon was forced to unlock all LTE phones. It was part of an agreement for frequencies or bands.
Due to Lte 700 Mhz C block rules, the Verizon LTE phones have been sim/carrier unlocked.
That doesn't mean it supports all LTE bands though. You have to check the bands the phones support if you want to use them on another carrier.
I found this cool website willmyphonework.net. to check for frequencies in various countries.
Verizon Note 5 is sim unlocked but i believe they have Knox locked. Meaning you cant root the device and install custom ROMs.
This worked for me!
Thanks!
If you are on one of old's Verizon plan, I am on 1400 family plan, then I upgraded my wife's and my sister in law's phones to note 5 through Costco in California and they signed 2 years contract and got the phones subsidized at $277 including tax with free external charger. I didn't lose my unlimited data either when they upgraded.
I have edge plus that I bought at full price from best buy

I currently have the Note 3 out of contrat and my sister's LG G3 on contrat till February 2017 under my account. I want to get the Note 5 but would also want to be able to easily upgrade to next year's Note if I like it enough. I know Verizon has the new plans where you pay your phone by installments. Is that different from the Edge plans? And also would I be able to trade in my Note 3?

Verizon just changed the name. It was called the edge plan. Now it's device payments
Also as long as the note 3 doesnt have any water damage or physical damage on it
