Anyone get the M8 using Edge program? - Verizon HTC One (M8)

I picked mine up on March 25th and since I'm not due for an upgrade until this September I decided to purchase via the edge program. I'm still on the fence about the edge program and supposedly I have 6 more days to return the phone and cancel the edge upgrade. Anyone else get their M8 using Edge and if so what are your feelings about it? Also if anyone's been using Edge for a while now your input is appreciated too. Thanks!

I've been using it since the m7 came out, no qualms with it. Raises your bill a bit. Got this on edge as well.

Got mine on Edge. Was planning to buy it but when I added the 14.99 x12 +40 something initial it works out to me about 20 more overall. For me it was worth knowing I can turn my phone in after a year as I always want the newest phone.

My bill went down by 2 dollars by going with edge, so it's a win in my book. Did you get the 10 or 25(if over 10gigs) bill credit? That makes it a no brainer for me.

I had 8 GB of data they upped me to 10 and said my bill would be the same

IMO, the edge is only good to get on if you are either getting a cheaper phone and want to stay off contract, really want to stay off contract with a more expensive phone and not have to pay the large off contract price up front, or you like to upgrade phones a lot and have the money to throw around for it.
For the M8, if they did it correctly, it would be like an extra 25 dollars a month for 2 years. It's supposed to be the off contract price broken out and financed basically over a 2 year period. You can upgrade at any time however, without renewing your contract by paying for at least half the cost off the phone and turning the phone in. Meaning for the M8, you'd have to pay at least 300 dollars totaly (either by 25 dollars a month or whatever the difference is between 300 and what you've paid so far when you want to upgrade).
Doesn't sound like a very good deal to me. But then again, I still have unlimited data If I was forced to give up my unlimited data for some reason, I might would consider the edge, but most likely I'd just buy an off contract more reasonable cost phone like a nexus line phone or something. The amount price of off contract phones is mostly ridiculous and way higher than they should be. These things could be sold for 300 - 350 dollars and the companies would still probably be making a profit, you can look at the Nexus 5 to tell that.

It really isn't a bad deal, you get a credit for $25 if on a 10gb or more plan, so your bill actually goes down just a little and you don't get locked in, I feel the edge program is a win win really

If you want out you have to pay off the phone and the etf... So, yeah... You're locked in.

Well I guess I mean locked down for upgrades, (where I live Verizon is the only carrier that gets great service so in my eyes I will always be with them) but it's nice to be able to upgrade when you want

How does it lock you in? My contract still expires this September.

I'm on the fence about edge
I got the phone on edge cause I can't bring myself to spend $600 for a phone that I make less than 10 calls a month on. I use it more for music and occasional video, some ebook reading, little bit of web browsing, and once and a blue GPS. So the question was is my unlimited data worth $600 today? I use an average of 1.5 Gigs/month on edge the gave me 6 Gigs for the same price + $14 month for the phone financing. I paid $80 down on the phone. My thinking was; sooner or later VZW will just stop offering unlimited data to month to month users. So how would I feel if I spent $600 and in 2 months time I get a letter from VZW saying Unlimited data is no longer a service tier that they offer on a month to month basis. Now I have a phone that I cant take to another carrier(?) And I still don't have unlimited.
I'm still thinking about going back to the store before next week and switching back. I wonder if they will charge me a restocking fee, to switch me, meaning return my phone then do a new sale or will they just let me pay the difference of the retail price and my down payment?

I got edge program since my Bill overall at the end of the day is the same as it was every month on ATT. Basically pay the same every month with Verizon as I did on ATT but can upgrade my device every year (or sooner if I wanted personally) and again pay the same every month. Versus paying less a month and $199 or whatever phones cost and be locked in a few years on that device.

I don't know how it effects your contract ending... But edge actually extended mine

If I check my contract end date it still says this September which means it didn't change since getting my M8 on edge

It's a promotion I believe that started around day 3 this device came out on Verizon. When in store I got $20/month credit. They said call customer service tomorrow and I will get $25/month credit a s long as I have Edge. I believe my Edge cost is about $25/month so with the $25/month credit it's like it's free and can upgrade whenever I want zero down. Win win, call customer service, was quick and easy, took 5min to enable this.

Yes I have 10gb plan shared with my wife. For some reason though store couldn't enable and said to call next day. Just figured it didn't start til next day? Did all this I believe the second day this device was released for Verizon.

G2x for $149 or less as an upgrade

This forum helped me a lot answering my question so now it's time for me to contribute a little to it.
I don't know about new activations, I'm just talking about my case which is an upgrade and I've been with T-mobile for 5 years already.
My contract has ended for a while so now it's time for an upgrade and I waited for this fone as the GS2 takes too long to come out. So I did a little research online and found out that I can match the price of this phone (currently $199 after mail in rebate on Tmobile website or store) with Wirefly's price at $149 using a promotion code "courtesy" when calling them.
First, don't talk to a regular representative, they have no power to reduce the price, ask to talk to Customer Loyalty, and insist on it if they refuse to transfer u to them. Then just tell them that a friend or other people can match the price with Wirefly. In my case, they even lowered the price to $103 after taxes and shipping, no rebate watsoever. I have a 3 lines family plan with them, I don't know if it helps, but for the price, it's great compared to other people that have to buy them at $149+tax. I'm pretty sure some of u got the fone for free, I don't know how u guys did it, please tell us how.
I got it free Cuz they. Screwed me over on data for 3 months... and they sent me two broken vibrants as refurbished ones..... I was in the process of canceling when the manager came on and offered two new phones I got this one and saving my next free one for sgs2 if it comes to T-Mobile. I have two lines and only been a customer for 11 months. Just gotta know how to talk to them

Wow, that's a great deal u've got. But ur case is very special cuz they screw u up. At least u got a really good deal on the phones. I guess because I'm not born here in the USA or else I'd get a better deal than that, lol
sorry to bump this but it sort of goes along with my question
on october 27 i'll be eligible for my 22 month upgrade, but can i upgrade earlier and still get the phone for $149? when i'm logged into mytmobile account it shows that the g2x is $149 after rebates but since i'm not exactly eligible to upgrade, would i still get the rebate?
basically i can't stand my current phone anymore and i don't think i can wait a month and a half haha
Go through the checkout and see. You probably will only get a partial discount. I suggest waiting it out to see what the nexus prime is all about...

If you were looking online a couple weeks ago, you would've gotten them free with a 2-year contract or add-on line.

i'm going to try it, i'm just not sure if upgrading early will affect my contract price in any way. and i just looked up the nexus prime a little bit and found this "It’s said that the Nexus Prime’s screen could be as big as 4.65-inches." that is way too big for me

Ouch... Good point. I like 4" and would settle for 4.3" but no higher.
As far as upgrading early, it will just start your new 2-year contract from the date that you actually upgrade, not an extension onto the end. At least that's how my partial upgrade was a few years back. If you have 2 or more lines and can stick it out a while longer, T-Mobile's new $99/mo unlimited for 2 lines is awesome if they're still running the promotion. Unlimited calls, texts, and 2GB data for each line (throttled after 2GB). But it requires that you're not under a contract when you sign the new plan or there are some pretty hefty migration fees. Just food for thought.
Got mine at CostCo as a 2year contract upgrade for $149, then they sent me a $50 gift card, so $99 out of my pocket. Later they had it for $79 out of pocket.
i'm about to order it soon... it will be $149 with mail in rebate so i'm happy with that my g1 was more than that when i bought it haha

Square Trade Insurance

They are having a sale for the Galaxy S4.
$99 for a 2-year plan of you can pay $5.99 a month.
http://www.squaretrade.com/samsung-galaxy-warranty
Read the fine print - $99 deductible makes your insurance policy worth a total of $200, or, exactly what you paid for the phone (unless you got it at Walmart or Best Buy with the Phone Freedom)
Yes, I know that you're locked in for another 2 years and all that good stuff, but if you don't have a way of getting another phone on contract at any time, you should start looking in to that instead.... My point is, if you break the phone tomorrow, it will cost you the same price as if you pulled it from an on contract plan, but if you break it two or three months from now, it will be cheaper to get another on contract phone because that price is variable and will certainly drop compared to the Square Trade price that is fixed....
I was a huge fan of ST back in the day, but their prices now are just outrageous! A good case costs a max of what, 60 bucks? Sounds smarter than $99 plus whatever you're planning on getting already to protect the outside of the phone!

I did read it, and your post seems to assume people just have unlimited upgrades laying around, which is false for the vast majority of us.

I paid full price for mine $639 plus tax..
If you shatter the screen it's $99 to get it fixed with the insurance. Without insurance it's another $639 plus tax..
Sure you can add another line and get a new phone for $200.. Plus the added line of $10 a month, plus the added line smart phone data fee of $20 a month.. Adding another line will cost you $200 plus tax, plus $30 a month for 24 months..
Do the math over 2-years..
I will stick with Square Trade thank you very much..

Then maybe you should look into that instead of wasting money on an intangible, inflated insurance policy! I have a finite amount of upgrades to use too, but at least I can get another phone quickly without having spent $99 for potentially no reason ahead of time....

It's not a better suggestion.. It's a ridiculous suggestion IMHO..
Your idea:
$199 for a new line to replace broken phone.. $30 a month ($10 for added line and $20 for cheapest data plan) x 24 month contract = $720 plus the $199 for phone = $920 total cost..
-vs-
Full price phone $640
-vs-
Square trade plan $99 plus $99 deductible = $200
Ya your way is better!
Note that I did NOT say new line.... YOU said new line.... I have upgrades from other accounts to use, but then again, I think you're only reading / comprehending what you want, so I'm done trying to offer help if you're going to be the voice of XDA!

Thanks for not wanting to *help* me understand how doing it your way will cost $920 and doing it the insurance way will cost $200..
Preciate that.. LOL
Also. I have a friend who went through 2 iPhones in a year because of shattered screens..
Doing it your way she would have spent $400 just for upgrades never mind the monthly cost associated with having 2 extra lines. Now we are talking $400 just for contract price phones. Add in the monthly add a line and data fees for 2 phones and for 2-years and your idea / plan is even more asinine..
With Square Trade she spent a total of $300..
Oh well... To each their own..
Heres a couple coupon codes if someone wants to save a few bucks on the plan $91 instead of $99.

Re-purchasing the phone using an upgrade on your current plan will cost you no less than the ~$199 (cost of the phone) + $240 ($10 a month for add'l line w/ blocked data * 24 month contract) and you switching phones from that line to your original number. This is well above the cost to get a replacement through SquareTrade.
OR, are you referring to taking another family members' upgrade and therefore simply subsidizing your cost by pushing it into the future?

coincidentally I do have 2 extra lines with upgrades since I pay for my parents lines and they stick to dumbphones.

Squaretrade is loads cheaper than AT&T's $6.99/mo with $199 deductible.
My service with them has always been stellar, even when I call to complain and moan and cancel plans.

Well one thing that the att covers is theft.
Honestly, you get a extended warranty if you purchase your phone with a premium credit card. They will also pay for anything the manufacturer doesn't want to cover. That's 2 years.

You are right, ST doesn't cover theft. I didn't consider that.
I've never had a phone stolen (famous last words?) and that's because it is either in my hands or in my front pocket. I do this not only for theft reasons, but also for dropping reasons. Of the 27 smartphones I've owned in the last 3 years, I've only ever dropped one once.
The cost of the phone would be the least of my worries to a phone being stolen, honestly, I don't want some rando having copies of my music, pictures, and notes. Regardless of my having backups.
I will check out credit card coverage options, gotta put my 12 CC's to use somehow.

Here's a story. Just make sure you have a premium credit card. For Visa, they call it a signature visa card, it should say signature above the visa logo.

Just snagged an Active. F'n taxes brought it up to $147 but no activation fee made me feel better.

You might want to read thru the terms you agreed to when ordering the device. If you cancel the line you used to get the phone you are subject to an early term fee and/or an equipment fee if canceled in the first 6 months. If you take advantage of the 14/30 day return period and do not return the device they can and will charge your account for the full cost of the device.

I upgraded a line and traded an old phone in to get $100 literally one day before this sale went live. I had to call yesterday and ask for credit because why would anyone give away an old phone when you can get the same discount online without doing that. Anyways all they could do is give me $100 credit on my next bill which was nice. Overall great deal
There's super-long thread on SlickDeals about this deal. Apparently you can get 50% certain smartphones using a month-to-month option. Basically, you can get 50% the full price of the phone.
Details from the "Wiki" portion of this deal:
How to buy a non-commitment i.e. no contract device from ATT
Your best bet is going to the local store for pickup or ordering with overnight shipping. I don't think ATT is going to ship these devices on monday.
Select month-to-month.

Canceling
Call ATT and request to cancel your line. You have 3 days to get 100% service/act fee refund. After that it is prorated or the whims of ATT. Get confirmation of canceling and the employee's ID (their email address). You will get a bill in the mail for $0 and that is it.
Call any ATT number and say "cancel" and you will get transfered to retention/cancelation department. "I would like to cancel my new line. All I wanted was the phone which is why I ordered a month to month plan."
DO NOT USE the activated SIM if you want a 100% refund i.e. don't make a 30 minute call and expect them to not charge you.
Month-to-month = you get a bill = postpaid = you need credit

There's super-long thread on SlickDeals about this deal. Apparently you can get 50% certain smartphones using a month-to-month option. Basically, you can get 50% the full price of the phone.
Details from the "Wiki" portion of this deal:
How to buy a non-commitment i.e. no contract device from ATT
Your best bet is going to the local store for pickup or ordering with overnight shipping. I don't think ATT is going to ship these devices on monday.

how much does it come out to then? less than the FWC approach? (Fat Wad of Cash)
thats usually how i do it; cash and no info; just the device.
I'm concerned because the fine prints states only 2 yr agreement. I want to go the month to month direction just to get the phone but I feel like they will get their money from me one way or the other.

I ordered month to month, cancelled when I got home. Guy on phone confirmed no fees for cancelling. I keep the GS4. Paid $320+tax.
Quick question
If you are already an existing AT&T customer (I have the original galaxy note - still in contract), can I buy the month by month (e.g. full price)? Or do I have to add another line?
I mean I just want to buy it at full price, toss out the simcard from my gnote (cut it to be microsim) and pop it in to my new S4?
so its $320 plus tax if you go month to month and cancel? seriously?

I'm coming from the Slickdeals post. I was able to get two "month to month" phones (S4 and S4 Active) for in-store pickup. Once you get the phone, you call and cancel the service. The "month to month" is a no-contract plan. I got the S4 for $200 no contract (due to an error with the system, the store manager made the price $200 for my extra wait.)
I now have an S4 for $200 and an S4 Active for $318 no contract. I didn't have any problems when canceling the plan.
So awesome

I upgraded a line and traded an old phone in to get $100 literally one day before this sale went live. I had to call yesterday and ask for credit because why would anyone give away an old phone when you can get the same discount online without doing that. Anyways all they could do is give me $100 credit on my next bill which was nice. Overall great deal

I only got a $60 credit on mine.

I ordered an S4 Active last night with Month to Month under my current number that is already on contact. I paid full retail for my S4 last month and $315 including tax for the S4 Active.
I have a USPS tracking number now so all looks good.
I will either keep both or sell my least favorite. Either way a good deal.
I literally got my S4 YESTERDAY. My god
So wait, let me get this straight. As an existing ATT customer, I can order a new phone on a new plan (month to month). Then cancel the line as soon as the device ships, and I will receive the phone, but no bill? Except for the price of the device of course.
Does anybody know if this applys to the Note 2

T-Mo Jump offer

Have you seen this. Starts July 14th and seems like a cheap way to upgrade.

getting a nexus from the play store (or maybe the motoX in a month) is cheaper than the jump plan.
This is sorta confusing. Does trade in your phone every six months mean you carry over the difference between trade in value and what's left to be paid? Like every time you trade in a phone you end up further in debt? Or do they just go ok here's you a new phone and here's the new payment plan and thanks for your old one we don't have to worry about what you still owed on that. I guess I should be asking the T-Mobile guys.. I might go do that.

It is confusing and I definitely plan on calling to ask about it. But I believe what happens is the second part of what you said, new phone new payment plan.
My only problem with trade-in at the moment is I want to either play some baseball or golf with this phone and watch pieces fly.... or save it for my son as an emergency device.

From what I understand the $10 per month gives you the option to send them back your phone and erase whatever remaining balance you owe. They don't actually evaluate a trade in value, nor do they give you any kind of credit back. You then have the option to buy a new phone just like anyone else would. Since monthly payments are generally $20 on hardware with $100 down, you have payed them $280 for a six month rental if you trade in as soon as you can.

this makes the most sense to me. Thanks!
so $100 + $10 * (6) + $20 * 6 = 100 + 60 + 120 = $280 for 6 months for the phone.
for a new phone you continue with same plan. so through the course of a year you pay 2 * $280 = $560 which is about $100 less than the s4 but about $200 more than the google nexus.
plan is good for people who get a new phone every year as long as its a top of the line phone. doesn't make sense to get it if you always get the nexus phones or if you get a phone every other year.

ATT good deals

I just switch my plan with ATT. I got now 10 GB share plus unlimited talk and messages 3 smart phones connected for $145. Compare to last I had some around $190 and each phone had 2 GB data.
Is looks good for me, but other can have defriend opinion.
Did you get to keep the phones you already had, or did you have to trade?
They started this in the beginning of Feb. If you have 3 or more lines, this is definitely worth it. I went from 225 to 140 with taxes and warranty.
Just go to att wireless and you can change the plan. No need to buy anything or trade.

I keep my phones
Can you guys provide a link to those plans? Ours is only 4 GB shared with 3 phones and it is well over $145 a month

I was on a Mobile Share Plan paying around $205 after taxes & fees for 3 lines on the 4 GB plan. I called the other day and got moved to the Mobile Share Value plan without any issues... next billing cycle will indeed be cheaper after doing the math the service dropped to $145 along with tax & fees of around $10-$15. I definitely have no problem with saving nearly $50 or so dollars a month while getting more data out of the deal. T-Mobile really has AT&T scrambling to keep customers from jumping ship, and we're reaping the benefits.

I believe you won't get the "2 year upgrade deal". You have to use Next
you can go with a 2 year upgrade deal but your monthly phone charge will go up to $40 per line. not worth it for me.

I don't think so I got 2 years on 2 of my 3 phones and get only $15 per phone.

But when you go to upgrade your lines it goes up unless you go with the Next program.

If on upgrade I can't keep my plan I can always change company since I do not have any obligation to them. Then is they move. I think you will be able to keep your plan.
They are doing this because T MOBILE prices.

I switched last week also. Just so people know. You will no longer get upgrade discounts every 2 years with the value plans. You will have to use Next or pay up front the full price of the phone
So they doing this to sell less phones? Not to smart.

Can someone please tell me the difference between Next and the 2 year upgrade plan?
Basically if you're in a 2 year contract signed prior to 2/2 then your line is $15 on a 10gb+ value plan. If in the future you sign another 2yr then your price goes up from $15 to $40. If on next it stays $15 and adds installment. No contract stays $15.

I ended up switching and grabbed a couple sgs2's on swappa for my other lines that weren't smart phones before. This gs4 is my last carrier phone I'm going to get I think. Either a nexus or Google play edition of the next great thing will be my next device.

Pretty damn good deal for those who like to buy phones outright, such as with the Nexus lineup.
Which is how I'll be going since AT&T locks bootloaders now.
