Androidpolice released a report stating that all smartphones at or under the price of $200 are 50% off until June 30. This includes the galaxy s4 and s4 active but requires a 2 year contract. Should work for upgrades too but I haven't gotten a chance to check it. If you've been on the fence about getting a new phone now is a good time to check this deal out. Here is the link to the androidpolice article.

Just snagged an Active. F'n taxes brought it up to $147 but no activation fee made me feel better.
ordered a s4 and it came out to be 363 with tax and overnight shipping. Will cancel the line once I get the phone
You might want to read thru the terms you agreed to when ordering the device. If you cancel the line you used to get the phone you are subject to an early term fee and/or an equipment fee if canceled in the first 6 months. If you take advantage of the 14/30 day return period and do not return the device they can and will charge your account for the full cost of the device.

Was this the price on a month to month basis with no contract?
I'm assuming this wouldn't work for the 32gb S4 since it's more than 200 dollars.

I upgraded a line and traded an old phone in to get $100 literally one day before this sale went live. I had to call yesterday and ask for credit because why would anyone give away an old phone when you can get the same discount online without doing that. Anyways all they could do is give me $100 credit on my next bill which was nice. Overall great deal
There's super-long thread on SlickDeals about this deal. Apparently you can get 50% certain smartphones using a month-to-month option. Basically, you can get 50% the full price of the phone.
Details from the "Wiki" portion of this deal:
How to buy a non-commitment i.e. no contract device from ATT
Your best bet is going to the local store for pickup or ordering with overnight shipping. I don't think ATT is going to ship these devices on monday.
Select month-to-month.
Online
Cancel the line AFTER you get shipping confirmation and it is in route to you.
Pickup
Nothing. Cancel as soon as you get home with your device.

Call ATT and request to cancel your line. You have 3 days to get 100% service/act fee refund. After that it is prorated or the whims of ATT. Get confirmation of canceling and the employee's ID (their email address). You will get a bill in the mail for $0 and that is it.
Call any ATT number and say "cancel" and you will get transfered to retention/cancelation department. "I would like to cancel my new line. All I wanted was the phone which is why I ordered a month to month plan."
DO NOT USE the activated SIM if you want a 100% refund i.e. don't make a 30 minute call and expect them to not charge you.
Month-to-month = you get a bill = postpaid = you need credit

I ordered month to month, cancelled when I got home. Guy on phone confirmed no fees for cancelling. I keep the GS4. Paid $320+tax.
Quick question
If you are already an existing AT&T customer (I have the original galaxy note - still in contract), can I buy the month by month (e.g. full price)? Or do I have to add another line?
I mean I just want to buy it at full price, toss out the simcard from my gnote (cut it to be microsim) and pop it in to my new S4?
so its $320 plus tax if you go month to month and cancel? seriously?

I'm coming from the Slickdeals post. I was able to get two "month to month" phones (S4 and S4 Active) for in-store pickup. Once you get the phone, you call and cancel the service. The "month to month" is a no-contract plan. I got the S4 for $200 no contract (due to an error with the system, the store manager made the price $200 for my extra wait.)
I now have an S4 for $200 and an S4 Active for $318 no contract. I didn't have any problems when canceling the plan.
So awesome

I ordered an S4 Active last night with Month to Month under my current number that is already on contact. I paid full retail for my S4 last month and $315 including tax for the S4 Active.
I have a USPS tracking number now so all looks good.
I will either keep both or sell my least favorite. Either way a good deal.
I literally got my S4 YESTERDAY. My god
So wait, let me get this straight. As an existing ATT customer, I can order a new phone on a new plan (month to month). Then cancel the line as soon as the device ships, and I will receive the phone, but no bill? Except for the price of the device of course.
Does anybody know if this applys to the Note 2

Just sold my iPhone a good hefty amount Wheres the best place to get out of contract pricing? 400 isnt much, but I've heard of people getting it for 300? Anyone know where?
Also, my two year ends 02/26/2011, do I qualify for the upgrade pricing from Costco which is 79.99 or do I have to wait until that date?
Alex
Yeah, go to Costco and ask them if you qualify for the early upgrade right now. If not, wait until the 26th... its a great price. ($79) I tried yesterday but they turned me down for an early upgrade, told me to go to the corporate store, and I can get it there. Try your luck!
Would love to know where I can buy one online at a reasonable price with no service contract.
att.com don't sell them without a service contract so that is out
AT&T stores have it retailed for 399.99 without commitment. They probably need more than a few in stock to sell it to you but that's the cheapest I have seen.
Just got mine today from ATT off contract $399 seems to be the cheapest right now anywhere. Seems kinda odd that they wouldn't sell u one.

Seen eBay prices as low as $320. Could probably dip below $300 in a week. I trust eBay more than say, small obscure handset websites, because I've never had a problem bidding on a phone and getting what I wanted in a timely manner, but when it came to an actual online retailer, they would give me the run-around on shipping or send me a defective product.
sometimes http://www.wirefly.com has good deals on early upgrades.
Just got mine at BB for 324 plus tax. That was no contract price.
I got a pretty good early upgrade yesterday.
I have 2 lines, 1 shows ready for upgrade and the other addon line shows eligible on 4/24/11. Contract is up in August.
I went to a corporate store and they said 99 for the normal upgrade and 399 for the other.
I went home and called customer service and got the same story.
I then asked them what charges I would have if I cancel my account early.
They told me and after a couple of min. they gave me the retention rep.
Ended up getting 2 new Inspires, free shipping, for 79.99 each!

The message you have entered is too short. Please lengthen your message to at least 10 characters.
Att store used an early upgrade for a non data enabled line for us and it was $300 and put on the data enabled line for me, but then i gave it to my wife. THEN the data stopped working for her line and we had to call and explain because there was something that needed to be enabled on her line for the 4g phone, EVEN though att was out of the 4g cards. So we have to go back to the store to get the 4g card i was supposed to get, but going to get for her line now.
Untill i buy another one. Maybe today. But that will probably be the full 400 price. Ill check bestbuy store see if its cheaper

He's a cashier there, haha. Kidding, but seriously, the BestBuy POS doesn't allow it to be rung up at that cost.
This forum helped me a lot answering my question so now it's time for me to contribute a little to it.
I don't know about new activations, I'm just talking about my case which is an upgrade and I've been with T-mobile for 5 years already.
My contract has ended for a while so now it's time for an upgrade and I waited for this fone as the GS2 takes too long to come out. So I did a little research online and found out that I can match the price of this phone (currently $199 after mail in rebate on Tmobile website or store) with Wirefly's price at $149 using a promotion code "courtesy" when calling them.
First, don't talk to a regular representative, they have no power to reduce the price, ask to talk to Customer Loyalty, and insist on it if they refuse to transfer u to them. Then just tell them that a friend or other people can match the price with Wirefly. In my case, they even lowered the price to $103 after taxes and shipping, no rebate watsoever. I have a 3 lines family plan with them, I don't know if it helps, but for the price, it's great compared to other people that have to buy them at $149+tax. I'm pretty sure some of u got the fone for free, I don't know how u guys did it, please tell us how.
I got it free Cuz they. Screwed me over on data for 3 months... and they sent me two broken vibrants as refurbished ones..... I was in the process of canceling when the manager came on and offered two new phones I got this one and saving my next free one for sgs2 if it comes to T-Mobile. I have two lines and only been a customer for 11 months. Just gotta know how to talk to them

Wow, that's a great deal u've got. But ur case is very special cuz they screw u up. At least u got a really good deal on the phones. I guess because I'm not born here in the USA or else I'd get a better deal than that, lol
sorry to bump this but it sort of goes along with my question
on october 27 i'll be eligible for my 22 month upgrade, but can i upgrade earlier and still get the phone for $149? when i'm logged into mytmobile account it shows that the g2x is $149 after rebates but since i'm not exactly eligible to upgrade, would i still get the rebate?
basically i can't stand my current phone anymore and i don't think i can wait a month and a half haha

Ouch... Good point. I like 4" and would settle for 4.3" but no higher.
As far as upgrading early, it will just start your new 2-year contract from the date that you actually upgrade, not an extension onto the end. At least that's how my partial upgrade was a few years back. If you have 2 or more lines and can stick it out a while longer, T-Mobile's new $99/mo unlimited for 2 lines is awesome if they're still running the promotion. Unlimited calls, texts, and 2GB data for each line (throttled after 2GB). But it requires that you're not under a contract when you sign the new plan or there are some pretty hefty migration fees. Just food for thought.
Got mine at CostCo as a 2year contract upgrade for $149, then they sent me a $50 gift card, so $99 out of my pocket. Later they had it for $79 out of pocket.
i'm about to order it soon... it will be $149 with mail in rebate so i'm happy with that my g1 was more than that when i bought it haha

Get it at costco, they give free accessories and will price match their own prices within 30 days.
T-Mobile.com:
+ Can keep your plan
- $325 ridiculous up-front cost ($250 + $50 tax + $18 Upgrade Fee + $6 Shipping) (See attached screenshots)
- $50 Mail-In Rebate hassle
- $50 SENSATION50 promo code box doesn't appear for upgrades, wtf??
Amazon:
+ $179.99, No Tax
+ Free 2-Day Shipping
- $35 Activation Fee
- Can't keep your current plan at all, you MUST choose from the new plans
Wirefly:
+ $179.99, No Tax
+ Free FedEx Shipping
- $18 Activation Fee
? There is a "Keep My Plan" option available but what plan options does it keep if forced to choose a new data plan anyway??
Is there a less expensive way to go about it?
And what the heck is this "Activation Fee" if my account is already active, and why is it more expensive on Amazon?
(See attached pictures)
The activation fee is a joke. T-Mobile has to do zero work to get the phone to work on their network. All we need to do is move a sim from one phone into the other. I wonder if they'll waive the fee if you call t-mo?

Wow that sucks.
Let'stalk even paid for the california taxes (which would be $50 since smartphones are taxed the full price of the phone in california), so I only paid a total of $149. Seemed like an awesome deal to me.
You cant go wrong with costco... 199 after rebate, you keep your plan and you can exchange the phone for a new one in the next 90 days.
Got my g2x and after me being very disappointed with it - swaped for the sensation.
Plus, they will match the price if it ever goes down (got my g2x for 200 and got 100 back when they started offering the phone for 99)

Unfortunately, they force you into the 5 GB plan no matter what, even if you keep your plan:
And they do charge tax too
And they charge the $18 upgrade fee too (see bottom of picture). They just don't add it to the final price.

I think the 149 upgrade price expired yesterday.
I asked T-Mobile about the promotion and the rep didn't seem to have a clue about it...
~Tracy W: I am not finding anything in regards to a promotion code, what I would recommend is calling our sales department at 1-800-672-5390
I asked a rep from Amazon and they said that you can keep your $10 data plan and you don't actually need the $30 one.. you can switch it at any time.
Also, I think you clicked 'new plan' instead of existing plan, I get a different checkout page.. see attachment

Strange... I called At&t on Monday and asked if I could upgrade early (I wasn't eligible for an upgrade until January 15th). Not only was I told yes, but I was given the $150 price for the Skyrocket. And in my zipcode it was coming up as 250 online.
Plus, I was told they will waive the upgrade fee. (I still have to call now that I have the phone to make sure that happens).
All I did was just ask nicely for the upgrade and the rest just happened. Now I've got my phone and I couldn't be happier.

After 30min on the phone the answer was still "no we can't do anythinbg the best price I can offer you is $239" When I told her that I could buy the same phone for $199 at walmart or Radioshack she said she was sorry but could do more.
I told her it was sad because at least Verizon and T-Mobile are not changing their price depending of the city and then I asked to talk to a manager.
The manager was "not available" but I got the promise he will call me asap. One our later, I got a phone call, the price was accepted, $149.
It was worth the time
Am I the only one who would rather pay the $100 than spend 30+ minutes on the phone with an ATT CSR?
Hmm my local ATT store asked me what area code showed 149.99, but ones I knew that should have showed 149 seemed 250 and he said he cant bring down the price.
What area code shows 149 still from ATT website.
If you bought it from Bestbuy, just print out a screen shot of the AT&T website showing $149 and they will refund you the $100. I attempted only 1 time and had no problem.

I don't see it for $149 on the AT&T site. It's $249.
Not cool..

Whenever I get home I am going to do this.... Those extra $135 will definitely help!! ($100 for phone + $35 restocking)

Tried this with 2 different reps.... no dice.
Before my upgrade, my account expires next month. Told them ill return the phone, and move to verizon as "it seems your company has a $100 mark up" on this device.
Was pretty much told good luck with verizon. LOL

I just went to Bestbuy and showed them the price on my phone. So he looked on their computers and it said $250 and that it was because my zip was in Oklahoma City on my phone(I used the zipcode a few posts back). I just said my parents moved out there, and after this semester of school I would be moving too. I just said I didn't want to return it and have to have my parents buy it and ship it to me.
He asked a manager and they approved it. Probably didn't want to lose store numbers on contract renewals and bit the hundred bucks.
I would advise saying you didn't want to have to return it and buy it there if your zip is different, they want to keep their numbers up.
So I called up T-Mobile yesterday(day the One S was released) and immediately asked for the Retention department. I was forwarded over and spoke to a sweet young woman. I explained that I was still on contract for a few months but I was thinking of canceling. I explained that I have no service the moment I walk into my apartment and randomly where I sit at work. Which is true but I went on to say that I've been using WiFi calling successfully. Although, having to resort to that is frustrating.
I told her I was offered a free phone(Samsung Galaxy Nexus), no activation fee, and $35 less in charges per month if I were to switch to a work plan with Sprint(That last part being a fabrication). She quickly responded that she could offer me a better deal. I could tell that while I was explaining the situation, she was looking through my account and saw that I have been a customer of T-Mobile for just about 7 years. She took a moment to gather approval.
She came back on the line to ask which phone I wanted. I humbly spoke of the One S and she puts me on hold again. She comes back to offer me a lower rate plan than what I pay now, with a higher data limit. She continues to say that the cost of the phone for me would be close to $300 but she had applied a $250 credit on the account so that I will only have to pay $29.18. She even applied that charge to next months bill, and if that wasn't enough, she backdated the rate plan to save me just about that amount on this months bill. So I'm basically getting the HTC One S for mere dollars added to my next months bill.
So essentially, this is just another example of how far T-Mobile will go to satisfy their loyal customers and is further proof that they deserve all those J.D. Power & Associates awards for excellence in customer service.

good price.
i have been with TMo for over 12 years. they didn't want to give me a full early upgrade (I had 3 months left). I told them that I was ready to cancel and move to AT&T. She forwarded me to customer care and they worked out a price on the HTC One S. I'm not too thrilled with it, but it's not too bad.
$249+activation+tax+shipping = $290. That's what they wanted. I told them that Walmart had it for $198. WTH. They applied a $100 credit and now the total is $190. With the $50 rebate, comes out to $140.
Still TMo could have done better. I have two lines and a data plan. Was hoping TMo would take customer loyalty into consideration even more. Oh well, I am ready to jump ship next time. screw loyalty.
Sometime those hard to believe. I was once on a VERY thin line of canceling Tmobile and moving to Verizon (wife gets 20% discount there and her Tmo doesnt work at work due to ****ty building penetration). I have 2 lines and have been a customer for 6 years. Retension department wouldn't give me ANY deal on anything, they just forwarded my call to cancellations department.
On top of this when I was trying to order One S yesterday (I am ONLY 10 days away from my full upgrade by the way) 3 different customer service reps told me 3 different things. I ended up paying $260 with tax + activation fee + shipping and no rebate (or had a choice to pay $300 + get $50 rebate). I have to mention that I did get a line credit for $80 bucks few days ago for roaming mix up where I had to pay Tmobile extra $150 < I still dont know if it was my fault or Tmobile...basically I used Wifi-calling in France to call USA and somehow all my calls were charged roaming fees (And I do know how to use Wifi-calling)
I hate Tmobile reps, their lies, and their new stupid automatic answering service

I kinda of disagree with you here. You signed a 2yr contract, and despite being a longtime customer, you're fully aware you're not due for an upgrade. As such, they SHOULDNT offer you a full upgrade. However, they typically will offer you a discounted upgrade. So you were ready to cancel and pay an Early Termination Fee? I don't see how you're upset, since they were nice enough to offer you something. The other carriers would've told you to pay full price or hit the road with the ETF.
It sounds like you're not having a case of "screw loyalty", but instead, "screw signing 2 year contracts". Were you really surprised at the result?
I see people arguing about contractual obligations and how the carrier can screw you over, but what about YOUR obligation to follow the terms and the period length?

I should be more clear, I WAS eligible for an upgrade. When I got $80 account credit few days ago, rep noted on my account that I will be eligible for full discount upgrade on 25th instead of May 5th.
One of the reps from retensions then lied to me that I was not, and he doesnt see it noted on my account, rep before that said that I do have a full discount. In total I made 4 calls and got 4 different results (1 rep just had no idea what to do and transferred my call to some private voice mail)
I just renewed my contract with a grandfathered plan and Corp discount. I was able to get 3 phones, all HTC One S for a total of $200. They basically offered the phones for $199 each with no rebates, then offered initially a $250 total discount which I was able to get them to add another $150 discount. So it's $600 for the 3 phones - $400 credit. The credit shows up already on my account.
I thought about waiting for the S3 but I liked the One S in stores.
Now I am thinking of using the trade-in offer to send a couple of old phones. I am not sure if I am still eligible or not.
The upgrade, activation and shipping fees were waived. I had the $20 preferred android plan on one line. It is supposed to be ulimited but in relaity it has a "soft" limit of 5 GB.
My other 2 lines had the $5 web2go data plan offered by retention 2 years ago and it worked great with iPhones. The 2 lines were switched to the same $20 5GB plan.
Just a note, I called retention twice . My first offer was to pay $350 for 3 phones which I didn't accept and the second time the CSR was more willing to get a better deal and upped the credit.
I also got $10 off my monthly plan for 24 months.
Can't complain.
here's T-Mobile's link to get $100 trade-in for any smartphone or $200 for any iphone.

Not bad. I pulled off something very similar last year to get the G2x on full upgrade pricing despite being only a year into my contract, using the AT&T merger and a threat to move to Sprint as bargaining chips. Got that, and got the One S for full upgrade pricing this year by helping them get some conquest customers from Verizon.
I just got my One S today and came from an SGS2 on T-Mo, all I have to say is wow. Everything about the phone is wonderful. What a well crafted piece of tech. Love this phone. Sense 4.0 is so much nicer than TWiz. My 2 cents.
Does this really work?

Did the same thing a week ago to get my amaze for free. Gave me a 250 dollar credit on my bill. Im on value plan so 200 took care of the phone and taxes down payment, and the other 50 went towards my next month bill. I have a 27 dollar bill next month. I didnt even say I was leaving. I just said I wanted a new phone. She said I have been a customer for 5 years and she would be glad to help me out.
So now I have the amaze. Had a problem with my first one, and I am still in buyers remorse, so there sending me another one tomorrow. Now I have 20 more days to mess with these phone and if I dont like it, all I need to do is pay 50 bux and they will send me the S.
Win Win
This is interesting. I may call them tomorrow because I am eligible to upgrade my line as a part of my family plan. ATT also offers employees of my company a 20% discount on monthly plan. We have 4 lines on our tmobile family plan... 2 are not under contract, 1 is under contract until the 29th, and the other is under contract until September. Maybe I can argue with ATT tomorrow that two are still under contract, but we will pay the disconnect fees (really just one after this weekend) and see what kind of deal they can offer on 4 phones (2 htc one x, sgs2, and a stupid free phone), and then call tmobile to work something out.
I think the ideal situation would be ATT offers me a plan and the phones with a price, and I present it to tmobile as a deal, and receive free phone upgrades for each line. This is farfetched, but if they want to keep our service, what else could they do?

What a delay...you are clearly going to get the One S ...stop wasting time.........jeez. So when you call back on the 19th day and "decided" to go with the one S and the $50 doesnt apply you'll come back and bash t-mobile.............and to clarify. Its consumer to business...the.reps.discretion is.what makes.us.happy or dissatisfied.not."The Company"

Of course the 50 applies. I had a credit of 250 posted to the account and 200 of it went towards the down payment of the amaze ( 149.99, 49.99 tax ). The other 50 went towards next month bill. For me to get the ONE s, I need to pay an extra 50 because the Down payment for the ONE s is 199.99, not 149.99. I been with T-Mobile for 5 years and just signed a new 2 year contract. I dont have any reason to bash them.
Is this Tmobile USA? If so, how did you get passed the automatic menu to a customer retention rep?

I was also able to get enough credits to get the one s for free since they said I'm a valued customer for 5yrs
Just tried this and TMobile says that I'm on value plan so no discounts at all! I have to pay $599 retail price.
So much for being a "valued" customer for 7 years.
