Hello,
my Pixel arrived and I wanted to copy all my Data from my Nexus 5 (rooted) to my Pixel. As I can't root at the moment the Pixel (at least I don't know how) I wanted to use Helium (Premium) to copy all Data from my old to my new Phone. Helium gets activated from my PC on both Phones with the PC Companion App. On my Nexus I have done the Backup to the Google Cloud, in my Pixel I can choose to restore. But then nothing happens. Helium on my Pixel acts like everything went fine, but I can't find the App in the Drawer. After restarting the Phone Helium says that the App I restored previously is not installed.
Did anyone try to restore via Helium?
Cheers

Same problem.
Helium says that my apps data was restored, but in fact it was not.
Looks like Helium is not compatible with Pixel or Android 7.1...
This doesn't seem to be Helium related in particular but perhaps a bug with Android 7.1.
Helium uses adb backup to create and restore backups and when using adb backup manually it doesn't work either when restoring app settings & such to 7.1 from lower versions of Android.
If I back up an app on 7.1 using either Helium or adb backup though it works as expected, just not if the backup was created on MM (I haven't tested any other version of Android yet).

I really only wanted backup of one app (Subway Surfers). I saw the same issue. I had to install the game from the Play store and then using Helium to restore, it worked perfectly.

Hey,
tnx, works as described! Install from Play Store, then restore via Helium. Now I have my Savegames back
Cheers
I am experiencing the exact same issue with my Google Pixel. I have performed a full backup from my Nexus 5X so that I don't have to install the app manually. But when I attempt to restore the app it is not installed, despite all messaging suggesting that the restore worked just fine. If I install the app manually from the app store and then perform a restore from Helium the data is restored.
Unfrotunately I have apps that I'd like to restore that are NO LONGER IN THE APP STORE so this is rather bothersome.

Can you not pull the apk from your Nexus 5X and side-load it on your Pixel, then restore your back-up?
Isn't that the point of using Helium to backup the App AND the data? I too have an app that errors out when trying to restore. It worked with a few other I backed up. I tried full backup and then just data then uninstalled the app and reinstalled it and both restores errored out.
Any ideas? Thanks

I bought Titanium Backup Pro and have a key.
However, whenever I flash a new ROM, all my apps start coming back. If I try to install the Key from the Play Store, it gets pushed under everythign else and downloads at the end.
I tried the option in Titanium Backup settings where it copies Titanium Backup as an update.zip to the sd card, but that only restores the regular, FREE Titanium Backup app, without the key.
So my question is: How do I restore the Titanium Backup Pro Key on my first boot into a new rom, without installing any of the other apps I previously had? (I prefer to restore everything with Titanium Backup, rather than letting the Play Store do it)
Thanks for reading
When you flash a new rom uncheck keep this phone backed up with my google account. That is not exactly how its worded but its in the initial set up.
REplY
You should have installed MY BACKUP ROOT before flashing the new rom

I do the following steps:
before installing new ROM,
I first back up all apps using Titanium Backup. I ensure that I back up the Titanium PRO app as well.
Then after installing the new ROM... i do the following:
after signing into the phone - I go to play store and stop all downloads and install Titanium Backup free.
when I run the free version it automatically registers the PRO version as it is backed up in it.
then I can restore all other apps using Titanium back up PRO.
Let me know if this was helpful to you.
Yeah I figured it, what I have to do is sign in from my account but uncheck the boxes for backing up accounts and restoring to the phone. Then I just download both the program and its key from the market. Thanks!

Reply to your question
I hear dev support is pretty good (never had to contact him/her/them myself though)
because when applications freeze, then thaw and then I said: application not installed
I leave the option to keep my phone baked up to my account when I flash a new rom, but always uncheck the first option that says something to the effect of "restore from my account". Then I grab tb from the play store, unless the rom has a baked in file explorer, since I keep a copy backed up in my storage.
Installing my backup root prior to flashing a new rom will do absolutely no good if you wipe data.

You guys are unchecking the 'backup to google accounts ' box, but can you check it again, later on? Because I do want my stuff to be backed upwith google as well.

Oh. That makes sense!

You dont have to uncheck anything, as soon as the phone gets to the homescreen just go to the play store and stop the downloads just takes a click. Keeping google restore checked you will have your contacts back as soon as you boot up.
Contacts will restore whether the restore from Google account is selected during initial setup or not, as long as contacts are allowed to sync with your account.

I see I didn't know that.

TB not restoring apps
Hello, before I installed Pac-Man 4.4, I made a backup with TB. Ported them with usb to my desktop from the computer. did a full wipe. flashed pacman 4.4 and gapps. then i installed tb from the play store, also pro version, then ported the files back from computer to tb file, opened tb and want to choose restore but there are zero apps to restore and normaly there are 350. Some help is welcome thank you.

Hey folks. ive been trying to back this app up to work on a different ROM.
I am aware of the fact this app has a built in Google Play Games cloud save feature but it does not transfer crystals and fragments.
I backed up my rom, then installed a new one. reinstalled titanium, and then the app.
then i tried to use titanium to restore the app data but it fails to load the old save. The app starts like a fresh install (no progress).
i have also tried the same process but with helium/carbon and still no hope.
have any of you been able to restore it successfully?
thanks guys.
Migrating to a new phone and discovered an issue with the backups on my old phone. This is tested and happening on both btw.
If I backup and restore a working app it then will force close on opening. Clearing cache and data and still force closes.
I tried uninstalling titanium, deleting titanium folder and reinstalling.
Same issue after a backup and restore of an application.
Running Oneplus 6 and Oneplus 7 pro
Unlocked and unrooted with magisk
Titanium at latest version from market.

App restore with titanium doesn't work for switching to a new phone, only restoring to the same phone and same os. When it does work the apps tend to be super glitchy. I'll drop a link to the xda thread where you can get more info/ help. Good luck.

Agreed. I've only migrated app data to a new phone using TB import/export (.TiBkp) feature. AFAIK, you can only do that one app at a time. So I've only done it with a few apps that I really wanted to save the user data.
More folks on this forum are recommending Swift Backup these days. It seems more reliable for this phone. I've use TB for years, but now I've just started trying out Swift Backup.
It appears TB is not compatible with the newer "split apks" format for newer apps in the appstore.
Basically TB will only backup the "base.apk" for an app when it does a backup. But with split apks, there are other APK files besides base.apk, like one for the app's language (split_config.en.apk) or the cpu type (split_config_arm64_v8a.apk) and the screen resolution (split_config.xxhdpi.apk).
So, since TB does NOT backup these extra apk files, these files will be missing when you do a restore with TB and thus the restored app will crash when you try to run it.
Luckily there is a new open-source backup app that works well with Slit-apks on Android 8+:

And I think it's better then Swift backup because:
1) Swift backup requires your google account login
2) Swift backup throws errors if you block internet access to it for security reasons
3) Swift backup is not open-source, so it could go the way of TB in the future.
4) And OandBackupX is FREE

Those errors seem like there is a problem with xandbackupx not being able to gain root access.
When you first started OABX, it has a bunch of cards where each card requires a different permission on your device - did you go through each card/step and give all those permissions, including root?
Are you using android 8+?

Thanks for the reply,,, yes I checked all and granted all permissions, Iam on a11 firmware running a a12 rom Bliss, ,, I will mess with it some more with it , it looks really robust with alot of options so maybe one of the settings need to be ticked or maybe it's just this rom, it's not a big deal as I have the other one to fall back on until I do some more testing

I'd start with OnePlus' official app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oneplus.backuprestore
I'm sure there's other 3rd party solutions out there.
Here's a couple of lists to peruse:
https://www.tomsguide.com/us/pictures-story/633-best-android-backup-apps.html
https://www.androidauthority.com/best-android-backup-apps-and-other-ways-too-608014/
I myself don't backup anything other than my Google account/apps, but, it makes sense to use the mfgs own tool & wouldn't hurt to use others as well, see which method(s) do the best job.
Problem with OnePlus switch is that it takes backup locally. What if I need to install a custom ROM and then restore my backup ? How can I do that as I have to factory reset my phone for it.
Have you followed this guide for fixing Android backup?
https://www.xda-developers.com/android-backup-google-drive-broken-how-to-fix-manager/
Just so you know, it can take some time before the backups succeeds after applying this. For me it succeeded one day later.
I used to use titanium backup but when I got on OnePlus 7 pro titanium would stop working when restoring so I switched to swift backup and it works really smooth and just the other day I did my first restore from swift (with root permissions) and it did really well getting accounts logged back into and everything. I only had a few trouble apps that I had to clear data and re-log into but otherwise went unexpectedly smooth

Migrate does the trick easily.
What's the best way to backup/restore apps/data from a rooted phone to an unrooted 4a? Does a Google restore restore data/settings from non-google apps (like MixPlorer)? I usually restore with Swift Backup, but don't think that works without root.

Google restored all of my apps with data/settings including Mixplorer for me using the data cable connected to my P2XL. I did have to log back in with passwords and redo biometric logins but that was expected. Google even copied my downloads folder and most of its contents to the 4a.
Before you restore make sure to go into the Google One app and manually back up your data.

My 5t backs up to Google drive. I assume the cloud backup would be the same as cable backup? I've never done a phone to phone bu. I always just use cloud but for Google apps, and Swift (or titanium) for the rest thinking Google didn't backup data.

I've used Google Restore, Helium, My Backup Pro and had success with all of them. Restoring settings and app data is not too difficult.

I just use the cable to Cable transfer when I set up my 4A. This was from a pixel 3 XL rooted. All the apps that were at least available on the Google Store were moved over. The applications like viper for Android and ad-away were not transferred over.
