hi
is there some way to make phone asking me before connect to internet with mobile network ? (not wifi, bt, activesync) ...
example: im connected to net throught wifi ,browsing with opera but when connection is lost - phone automatically switch to edge/gprs - and i have no pre-paid data tarif , sou money runs out...
Same question
Yes, can anyone help with this one. For example, even if i'm connected to a wifi network and using the internet in opera, if I update the weather or send/receive my emails it will automatically connect to the mobile internet and download using this instead of the wireless.
The only thing I found was to turn the phone off (in comm manager, select phone to off), which forces it to download data using the wifi.
Can anybody help?
problem that you describe is not exactly what is my problem ,if i have established connection with wifi - internet is automatically go throught it,
maybe ....,have you got "The Internet" in preferences of your AP in settings > connections > Wireless lan > $essid (or under menu > edit ) ? (and you must be connected before you start using internet - opera ,updating or etc , thats for sure this will not automatically turn on and connect thrue wifi )
my question si only about "ask me before i will establish connection to the mobile internet network"
why not use NoData, you can shut down the data connection...
you mean create an empty profile in conections ? yes , sure , this working, i have it but sometime i want use this , so i must go to settings and switch to working profile and ..... its annoying, is there any other way ? in windows stile you know , "are you sure with blahblahblah" - my old W850i have this function ,every application which would like to connect run dialog "can this application connect to internet ?" and i can choose "permanently" or "ask me every time" ...somethink like this
No, I mean using a program called Nodata. I presume you are using GSM/Edge/3G data only when absolutely needed, and this program gives you the option to easily shut down any GSM related data connection (Edges, GPRS, etc)..

thanks ! - this help ,not for whole idea , but make thinks more easily
I can help you with that man
Go to Start -> Settings -> Connections -> Connections
Under the Advanced tab, click on Select Networks. At there you can select which network you want to automatically connect to the internet with.
Its easy

Hi
I'm having some data connection issues and would like some assistance.
What I need is:
1. When at home - my phone connects to wifi router for all data (currently working)
2. When out and about - my phone connects via EDGE/3G/HSDPA for data connection (Currently working)
3. When at work - my phone connects to my pc to get internet connection over work LAN via the work proxy. (NOT WORKING)
Can anyone advise how I can set up a wi-fi network for option 3 - that enables options 1 and 2 to exist with minimal fuss or settings changes.
Please include config advise for both laptop and WM phone. I'm using a samsung i780 with WM 6.0.

For users who are unsure on how to disable your mobile data connection, here's a method for you!
Simple go to Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile networks and un-check Data enabled.
Taken from http://droidbar.net/2010/12/how-to-disable-your-mobile-data-connection/
or you can go to (on 2.2 at least) Settings -> Wireless & Networks and simply uncheck the Mobile Network option.....
the built in power control widget can also toggle this for you as well.
Hi,
I have an Xperia XZ2 Premium running Sony's latest firmware (Android 9, 52.0.A.3.126, not rooted). At home I have 2.4 and 5Ghz networks from my main router, both repeated by a second router (four different SSIDs). I want the phone to automatically connect to my Wifi when returning home and, while moving in the house, to automatically connect to the strongest signal (5Ghz preferred over 2.4Ghz would be nice but not absolutely required).
Networks & internet > Wi-Fi > Wi-Fi preferences > Advanced > Turn on Wi-Fi automatically is active
In Networks & internet > Wi-Fi > Wi-Fi preferences > Advanced > Auto-connect I have enabled all four networks (2.4 and 5Ghz for router and repeater).
This setup automatically connects to my network when returning home but never changes to the best network while moving around the house. I have tried various apps such as Wifi Manager, Wifi Switcher, SWifi, SmartSwitch Pro and SmartWiFiSelector. They do connect to the best signal but shortly after such a change the phone goes back to that network it connected to in the first place when returning home. This fight between Wifi apps and the OS goes on forever.
In order to solve that problem I have to remove all networks from Networks & internet > Wi-Fi > Wi-Fi preferences > Advanced > Auto-connect. But in that case I have to manually connect to my Wifi when returning home
How do I get both: auto-connect when returning home and auto-switch to strongest signal?

Torsten

If it's possible to do this, you will certainly need to root the device.

Oh, that's disappointing to hear. Would it help to use a common SSID for router and repeater? Probably something I should find out by myself...
OK, obviously I was living in the previous century. Moved everything into a single SSID and now the phone seamlessly switches between the available sources and frequencies - w/o any helper tools.
I have an RV that allows me to control everything their their app as long as I am connected to the RV's local WIFI network (which doesn't provide internet).
It is obviously a terrible design as I cannot access the internet if I want to stay connected to it.
I know that about the "Switch to mobile data" option, but this doesn't work as this disconnects me from that WIFI connection. So that means I actually have to put the connection as a "Network exception" if I want it to stay connected.
Is there any work around to stay connected to a WIFI connection, but use mobile data when on that connection?
(Samsung note 10+ Android 12)
Always thought
a carrier's cellular network ( a radio network distributed over land ) is used when sending / receiving mobile data,
an internet service provider's network ( accessable via router / access point ) is used when sending / receiving data to / from internet.
All Android apps have a default network. The system decides which should be the default network.
It depends on app's configuration what connections - if available - are to be used - even simultaneously.
