Definitely a well made phone
Rather than being "the best Google can do," the Pixel is likely "the best Google can do in a very limited amount of time."

Evidence points to a rushed development cycle for Google's first self-branded smartphone.

For the next Pixel phone, Google should have a lot more development time. Dave Burke, Android's VP of Engineering, told Bloomberg that he has already seen photo samples from the device Google will debut next year. That puts the Pixel 2 at a minimum of 12 months of development time, though with the camera already under development, it's probably closer to 18.
As Google slots into a more standard device development cycle, hopefully it will be able to produce hardware that is more competitive with the Apples and Samsungs of the world.

google has had 30 years to make this phone, not to mention the years making android. I compare it to a music artist who spends their life writing their first album. Its usually the best and new music usually is hastily made and trash.
I have the XL and 6P. I think the XL feels like a cheaper / midrange version of the 6P.

I'm gonna have to disagree with you here. From what I felt when I first used a Pixel, the device is solidly built and comfortable to hold. I own a Nexus 6P, and I pretty much baby it because it has a chance of snapping in half like a twig if I don't. The only thing holding the frame to the screen are six screws: four on the very bottom, and two on top, and there is absolutely no support along the sides of the phone. And the phone being as tall as it is, then it becomes very prone to this happening. The Pixel also seems to have pretty decent water resistance, especially for a phone rated IP53.

What I'm getting at is that the Pixel feels like plastic. Like one of the toy/demo/fake phones you see in the shops. The metal on my 6P actually feels like metal.
Also the volume rocker on my 6P is solid and not wobbly like my XL.

I totally understand what you're getting at. The nexus feels more genuinely metallic to you. However, I would much rather have a phone with wobbly buttons and a not-so metallic feel (maybe because of the anodization process possibly being different between both phones) than to have a phone that I practically have to baby to make sure I don't bend it in any way. So while the nexus has more of a cold metal feel in your opinion, the Pixel is the more durable of the two.

I never felt that I needed to baby the 6P. I don't wear super-tight jeans, and treated it just like a normal phone. I do like the Pixel, don't get me wrong. Just doesn't "feel" like a premium phone.
Anyone with the silver variant of the XL notice that the screen has a thicker black border on the left and top side? As if the screen and the digitizer or some panels were not aligned perfectly. I noticed it on mine went to the store to exchange it and when the rep opened the box the other one had the same defect. I ended up getting a black one. At least i don't see it anymore.
Btw when i say border i really mean a headline border between the white panel on the screen. I could see it on the left and top side. The bottom and right side were flush with the screen.
Anyone else noticed this.
I know I'm knit picking but for 1150$ i want my phone to be perfect!

Solid!
It felt very high quality when I got it with Android Nougat when it launched. And now with the Android Q Beta 1 it feels like the beast got woken again and it just feels way more reliable than on Pie (ridiculous, I know...)!

Pretty happy I didn't buy this thing. Did exactly what I thought it would do.
aww, so sad, I ordered and it's being shipped already, it looks quite useless
FYI, I'm a google fan boy, but kinda disappointed by nexus 9's build quality and now this magic cover. Nexus 6's build quality seems much better though
A sh*t... I ordered it, and it's also already being shipped.............
This looks completely useless indeed ! :crying::crying::crying:
I almost ordered this. But the more I thought about it the more I realized that it doesn't protect the tablet very well.. yes the "pull down the corner to activate the camera feature" is pretty cool. But how often am I going to be using the rear camera?
I decided to go with the Moko slim folio case instead.. it's less expensive. More protective. And does exactly what I need a case to do

People have to understand there is a difference between a "case" and a "cover". A case offers some level of protection, from minimal to great, a cover, however, does not and would not have been designed to. So to expect something to function in a manner that it was not meant to would be illogical. Do you expect a dog to meow or a cat to bark?
With that said, I was truly looking forward to the magic cover because I don't want to cover up my beautiful Nexus 9 with an ugly, bulky case. I just wanted a nice, thin cover that can double as a stand. I was even willing to pay $40 for it but the fact that it falls off so easily is a deal break.

yeah, I agree, it's supposed to be able to hold the nexus 9 somehow when we just holding the cover, like Apple's smart cover does with iPad.

I've always doubted it would've worked as well as Apple's smart cover because the latter has the support of a full strip of magnet along the side where the former doesn't. I wonder why HTC/Google chose to do this. It's like building a house without any beams.

Got mine today. Getting shipped back tomorrow. Only positive thing about it is how well the origami design works for a stand. The magnets to not hold our self align the cover very well. Magnets don't seem to be strong enough to keep the tanker from sliding down and off the stand when on a hard surface at certain angles. Huge disappointment for me
very niceee
Folding back the corner covering the camera auto-launches the camera, which is a nice touch. That said, this style of cover was never something I was interested in but I'd love to see another case that uses the camera launch.
i know this goes against most people views, but i like it,
have just ordered me one from amazon for £25
I hate cases with back on just think adds to much weight and makes it to wide. I normally keep my tablet in a proper zip up case when not using it, so to have this to protect screen
looks good to me
will let people know once i get it how it is!
Complete garbage. AVOID!
1. Only one "standing" angle - and N9 is almost perpendicular to the surface, so you have to put a pencil underneath to make it "look at you"
2. When standing - pushing volume buttons knocks N9 off the magnets, it can potentially fall flat on the desk (or OFF the desk)
3. Magnets are weak, and folding cover is actually very awkward. This is NOWHERE near the nice iPad magnetic cover
Total waste of my money.
I got this today, already printed the return label from Amazon.
It's 100% useless. Doesn't stick well at all, and literally is not functional. Amazing they could have thought this would have been a useful accessory.
Magic cover looks nice. Will wait until the price drops.

Hi,
Can anyone here tell me which cardboard works fine with Nexus 6P? Actually I have a OnePlus 2 Cardboard with me, but it doesn't work well with Nexus 6P. Many things doesn't work, pictures isn't prominent, sound is cracking... lot of issues. So, if anyone can tell me which cardboard will work with Nexus 6P, it will be really great. Also I'm from India so a Amazon.in link or similar would be really nice.
I was just coming on here to ask the same thing. I have the original cardboard and the 6P just doesn't fit.

The View Master one is great just keep in mind that the 6P just barely fit in it so you will be taking any cases off to use it.
I snagged a Star Wars cardboard from a Verizon store and it fits well with my 6p and Spek Candy She'll Grip case.

get the viewmaster thingy but from Amazon US, cheaper than Amazon India. Refund on import duty almost a given.
The version two cardboard was made for bigger phones (Nexus 6 among others). Anyways here you can view a few: https://www.google.com/get/cardboard/get-cardboard/
Though with the new Cardboard Camera app the next generation of cardboard boxes would ideally have a whole for a camera or a piece cut out at the top
You want one with a headstrap. And you'll be totally sold on the experience by not having to hold it to your face. It's amazing how effective it works. The front facing speakers are key here. I can take about 30 minutes of wearing it before starting to feel weird. Then it takes some time to get reacquainted back with the real world because your vestibular system is out of wack.
I got this one:
http://www.unofficialcardboard.com/products/2-0-plus?variant=7602772993
The only downside is that with the Spigen Rugged Armor case, the sticky pad doesn't adhere to the back well. But it's not a problem. The phone won't be sliding out of the side. Put something soft in the nose rest for more comfort. The 6p is a heavy thing to be held up by the bridge of your nose!
Edit: For those new to this, charge the phone beforehand. The VR apps are using a lot of the phone's capabilities.
I bought the viewmaster vr but I returned it because it is annoying to have to remove my phone case to make it fit and even then, it's not easy to get my large phone between the clamps.
Now I'm thinking of IAMCARDBOARD's new DSVCR item:

I did have some concern with the strap pressing on the side buttons, but I think if the buttons are kept to the top, the strap won't touch them. But for phones with buttons on both sides, then it would be an issue.

Google does not allow head straps, so no "certified" devices will have one.
https://static.googleusercontent.com/media/www.google.com/en//get/cardboard/downloads/wwgc_best_practices.pdf
Parts to avoid
Do not include a headstrap with your viewer. When the user holds the Cardboard with their
hands against the face, their head rotation speed is limited by the torso rotational speed
(which is much slower than the neck rotational speed). This reduces the chance of “VR
sickness” caused by rendering/IMU latency and increases the immersiveness in VR.
I've had the shinecon for about a month now. Love it, although it won't accommodate a case. I have s review thread somewhere here
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
Cards on table: I kinda begged Poetic not to send me this case for review because I am NOT a fan of big, chunky, ‘rugged' cases. Nevertheless, here it is, so here’s my take.
There’s only one reason people buy a case like this: because they’re paranoid to the point of insanity about damaging their phone. Okay, there’s two reasons: the second being they have a weird Rambo fetish going on, and they think cod-military design cues might appeal to a drunk biker chick at three in the morning when her final vestige of self-esteem has been dissolved in half a gallon of Pabst Blue Ribbon. ("Hey, ladies, I’m into using protection if you know what I mean. Hur hur.”)
So, yeah. Protection. And I GUESS this case does that. I mean, it takes about an hour to prise the front and back sections apart, so I can’t see them just popping open post-tumble. And there’s about 37 inches of rubbery TPU swaddling the sides (rough approximation), so it should help your device withstand the occasional gravitational gonking.
But, seriously, I’m not going to put my phone in this case - or any case - then lob in into oblivion, just to test that out. So, frankly, we have no real way of knowing how well it protects a Nexus 6P. What we CAN do, though, is see how well it protects other things, which is what I’ve decided to do today. Pics attached as we go.

So, let’s start with soft fruit - and I’m afraid this one’s a fail. If it’s small enough to fit in the case (sorry, bananas), it’s gonna fall out through the massive great fingerprint sensor hole at the back (no unsquished blueberries for you, pal). There’s a chance you could get a date or two in there, but my local store was fresh out, so… you know, bummer.
Since this case is clearly meant to be carried about your person, I figured it might be useful as a shin-guard for rough-and-tumble sports like football, rugby or synchronized swimming. And, yeah - I think we’re onto something this time, largely because any good shin guard’s gonna be covered up by a whopping great athletic sock (apologies for my decidedly un-sporty orange fellas today). In turn, that means no one’s going to have to look at the sheer aesthetic grotesquery of this case and question whether their eyes are on the blink. Win, win, my friend. Win, win.
Here’s another thought. Maybe this case isn’t meant to provide protection solo? Maybe you’re meant to use it with a suitable peripheral? It’s getting nippy out there as winter starts to bite, so I’m guessing they’ve launched this thing to cash in on burgeoning hand-cream sales. Now, you’re going to struggle to get a tube of cream right into the case, but what you CAN do is use the integrated kickstand to make a neato display stand for your lotion of choice. As a bonus, that means you can leave the cap open without risking any unexpected - and unexplainable - dribblage all over your furniture. CONVENIENT.
Finally, technology’s helped with so many elements of modern life, but the boffins have yet to invent anything that can help us protect our innermost secrets. Well, you know what? Poetic haven’t cracked it either. I can totally see how this case would provide amazing side-protection for your guilt, shame and subterfuge. But that transparent front section is going to give the game away quicker than a drunken Irish boxer in a cheesy movie plot. Shame, really. I could’ve done with a way of hiding the fact that I’m now wearing this case like a codpiece.
AW, MAAAN. DID I ACTUALY TYPE THAT? GUH.

Although you think this case is unpractical and too bulky, it might be what the Nexus 6p actually needs. My 6p is in a standard rubber case from SUPCASE (the one with the clear back on Amazon). One day I dropped the phone no higher than 3ft onto a rubber/fake tile ground. It landed straight on its back and everything looked fine. After taking the case off, I discovered that the top portion of my volume button was indented and the aluminum casing had actually bent outward by the volume button (not too noticeable but it can be seen from looking at the phone from the side). I don't know if it was just my luck or this phone is just way more fragile than I thought it would be. I completely agree with you on the bulkiness of this poetic case, but it seems like anything less won't do its justice in protecting this phone.

I think what many people forget is that phones these days are essentially all in one PC's and I think in general are very well made for what they are.
Obviously a manufacturer has to make a choice between all the demands of the consumer from latest and greatest performance and screen size to slim form factor and premium materials.
What we get in the box is not meant to be ready for every one of life's scenarios, and that is why cases exist, some people demand greater protection to the detriment of form factor and sometimes at the sacrifice of usability.
For every phone I own I usually end up with several cases that I use depending on what I expect from the day ahead of me.
If I'm at University I use a Spigen rugged case to protect from general wear and tear and to offer some protection should I drop the phone.
But I also work on the railways so when I'm out on site I use the poetic revolution case because it's a much more dangerous environment.
And on the days we do concrete pours or extensive excavation work, I take a $30 Nokia phone and leave the nexus at home cus I've seen work mates drop a phone into a 8 metre deep hole that's filling with concrete....and there isn't a case yet that protects a phone from that!

A thread to list pros & cons for this phone
I begin:
Pros:
- battery life: not rooted yet (see cons), I've got almost 2 days of "new owner" heavy use. fast charge
- appearance, feel in hand: quite sober, metal frame feels good, not too slippery without a case. Although I think you should put a case since the screen shatters easily from what I've heard.
- performances, bang for the buck: 625 & 4gb of ram quite good, phone doesn't feel sluggish, apps stay in memory. Perfect for me. I don't play performance heavy games. 225€ seems like a fair price for what you get.
- phone doesn't get warm (metal frame phones are often prone to that)
Cons:
- modding: TWO WEEKS BEFORE YOU CAN UNLOCK THE BOOTLOADER: I'm not ****ting you. You get a countdown of TWO WEEKS before you get the unlock link. I wish I knew this before buying. Also (for now): not a very big community on XDA
- signal strength: almost 20% worse than my Moto x 2014. In France.
- headphones jack on top
Neutral: speaker is ok, but placement is bad, finger will often mute the sound almost completely

It's flat. The only thing curved on this phone is the back.
Yeah I had seen 2.5d mentioned but in reality its flat with a nice curve on the sides.
According to specs,it has 2.5D curved glass, but in reality its hardly curved. Many also complain that the screen is too stretched at the edges giving it a flat look

But honestly don't let this put you off. By the time you have it in a case you won't see the curves anyway. The screen is very nice. Lovely deep blacks and vibrant colours. I have the brightness low most of the time. Very easy to see outside.
Very happy with this phone. It's an absolute bargain considering the specs.
One thing that confused me about the price is that if you look on eBay they're going for anything from £200 to £300.
Why wouldn't you just go and buy one from Three?! Even with a £10 topup it's loads cheaper than they're going for on eBay!
And if you live elsewhere in Europe you can just buy it on Amazon unlocked for anything ranging from 250€ to 300€.
Worth it in my opinion. It has it's fair share of flaws but most of them can be worked around.
And let's face it: once you actually use it and the pieces fall into place you wouldn't want any other phone anymore.
And thanks to the marvelous battery and quick charging it runs tracks around it's competitors.

Yup,my device has a wobbly power button, but the sound made is just a 'tick',which is normal. I use dt2w,as i never like using buttons.
I don't have a tempered glass protector to test it but others have said so.
As for rattling buttons, they rattle slightly when you hold the phone to your ear and start shaking the phone like a mad man.
I wouldn't worry about it too much though, it's not like you will be spending most of your time doing that.
hey I am getting this phone in a week I selected it over s8 and iphone 7
and I would like to know your experience with it specially the durability as it failed with the bend test due to the flexible metal frame ,front and back glass
also what about the selfie shooter and battery life
I hope you share your experience with me
thanks in advance
I owned one when first released for 3 weeks. Definitely need a case to protect it but then I always use one. Battery life was average though not terrible.
Now, originally the phone was a speed demon but after awhile did become laggy much to my surprise but I have tons of apps though no game apps or Facebook loaded. I did pre-order the newer 6gb/128 version to see if that would improve, but cancelled as I await further feedback from users. I still prefer my S8+ and it doesn't lag for me to the surprise of many.

the GS8+ is 50 dollars more expensive than the 128gb 6gbram u11 here where I live that's why I am really considering it as the galaxy is poor af in multitasking and ram management
I found garry easily bends this phone so I was woundering too if there any related stuff I will own it for 2 years if it did not break xD
A phone made of glass. What a brilliant idea.
Using it for around 10 days without a case. Not enough time to judge but it's been fine. I am very careful though. Just a personal issue I have with this phone which doesn't seem to bother most people is the yellow tint at the bottom of the screen. Would have returned it because I'm particularly OCD about these things but the tint is so faint I couldn't get the customer service people to see it and if they don't see it in my particular case, I'm not getting a refund or replacement.
Btw the phone is awesome though and I wish I didn't notice or have the screen issue.

Mine is different. I have light bleed at the top which I can live with. What I have at the bottom is a yellow tint which gradually fades to white. OnePlus one had a similar issue and I swapped it twice before giving up on it. This is less exaggerated but unfortunately unbearable for me.

I have one for about 10 days now, and I must say it's beautiful. I use the provided HTC case with it, and the case now has lots of scratches.
I believe the phone is more slippery with the case, that without. I also think the glass is not as easily scratched as the plastic case, but it is a fingerprint magnet.
I've ordered a transparent silicone case, let's see how that is.
I don't have any light bleed or dead pixels, the cameras work perfectly, Edge Sense as well.
I really have nothing to comment regarding the performance of the phone, everything is snappy and works perfectly.
What I hate is the fact that I have the Dual-SIM version, and I always have the SIM no above the signal icon.

I think the sim issue can be fixed with systemui tuner I guess you have a chance with that
Experience is awesome, great, super happy, love this phone, extremely fast, great for the most demanding games.
Hands down the best sound ever, of any phone released today, and great for videos
Good reception even in poor areas.
Durability... not so great, not enough protection, Glass can break if not careful, will get scratched.
Poor availability of choices for Protection Cases and Screen Protectors.

I don't want to root it. Yet.
I have a good track record with phones, so I ditched the case. I do, however, have a carbon fiber skin on the back. The skin protects from finger prints, makes it easier to hold, protects the glass from scratches, and I personally thought the design isn't very good without it.
I found out that the glass is more fragile than I would have thought. When applying the skin, I had the glass face down on a glass coffee table. When I flipped it over it had various scratches. Got an IQ Shield screen protector and thankfully it hides the scratches.
I wanted to ask those using the phone. I have a black u11. When the flashlight is on I can see light at the sides where the glass meets the metal. Is this normal for all?

Ah wait scratch that. Didn't want to worry anybody. I looked at it carefully and that's not the issue. I have a full body clear guard and the edges of the screen/ body film seem to be lighting up. The actual metal joint seems to be fine. Thanks for the reply though. Much appreciated.

I'm in construction and after a month of use I have ZERO scratches. I tried a few cases, but they made this phone too bulky and hid the awesomeness. Now I just have a CardNinja business card holder on the back and an otherwise nekkid solar red phone.
After a month of use it has become less slippery. I did have to turn off Edge Sense though because it kept taking photos when I was taking it out of my front pocket.
I typically run a wet cloth over the screen and back after doing anything with tons of dust and I'm good to go!
Cases, in my experience just grind the pocket dust into the phone until they create gouges.
Hope that helps,
Chad
