Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus - Android™ 7.0 Nougat Release Notes
INTRODUCTION
We are excited to announce a new software update for Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus by Motorola. This update brings Android™ 7.0 Nougat to your phone along with other improvements.
For more information on Motorola updates and repairs, visit us at www.motorola.com/motog.
NOTE: You cannot downgrade to a previous software version after installing this update.
ENHANCEMENTS
Android™ 7.0 Nougat improves your mobile experience with new multitasking features, more efficient notification controls and improved data saver and battery features.
After installing the software update you may notice changes that include:
Productivity
Quick switch between apps: Multitasking in your phone just got even easier. Double tap the overview/recent apps button to switch between your two most recently used apps.
Multi-window view: Android Nougat supports multi-window view, so you can run two apps side by side in your screen. For example, reply a text message while watching a video, or browse the internet during a video call. Activate multi-window view by long-pressing the overview/recent apps button while in a compatible app. Important: the developer of the app needs to enable multi-window view.
Work mode: For Android for Work users, Android Nougat comes with a new work mode toggle, which allows you to conveniently turn on and off your device's work apps and related notifications for a better work-life balance.
Performance
Data saver: Data saver helps reduce cellular data usage. When Data saver is on, apps running in the background won't be able to access cellular data. An app you're currently using can access data, but may do so less frequently. You can also choose which apps have unrestricted cellular data access. To turn Data saver on, open Settings from the app tray and go to "Data usage", then tap on "Data saver". To adjust data access for individual apps, got to "Unrestricted data access".
Doze on the Go: Android Nougat comes with an improved Doze mode. Now your device goes into lower power usage when you are not using it and the screen is off, even if you're on the move.
JIT compiler: The new JIT compiler improves runtime device performance, helps reduce the amount of storage space required for apps, and helps make app and system updates much faster.
Stability improvements: Includes changes that address bugs and help improve the stability of your phone.
Notifications
Notification direct reply: Android Nougat lets you quickly reply to messages right from the notifications. When you receive a message, swipe the status bar down and tap "Reply" on the message notification. Then type and send your response, all without opening the app. Works on compatible applications.
Bundled notifications: Get more information at a glance! In Android Nougat, multiple notifications from the same app are bundled together into a single notification group. Drag the status bar down and tap the group to expand it and see or take action on individual notifications.
Notification controls: You now have more control over notifications. Just press and hold on a notification to toggle the settings. You can silence or block future alerts from an app in the notification itself.
Usability
Custom quick settings: Android Nougat lets you rearrange the quick setting tiles, so you can find your commonly used settings faster. Just swipe the status bar down with two fingers, then tap "Edit" at the bottom of the quick settings panel.
Quick settings bar: A new settings bar was added at the top of the notification shade, so you can conveniently access your quick settings when reading your alerts.
Improved settings navigation: Find the right setting faster with an updated navigation menu in Settings.
Settings suggestions: Android Nougat gives you meaningful suggestions for how to get more out of your device. Find them at the top of the Settings menu.
Lock screen wallpaper: You can now have different wallpapers on your phone's homescreen and lockscreen. To set the wallpapers, long-press on an empty space in your home screen, then tap "Wallpapers". Once you select an image, tap "Set wallpaper" at the top of the screen, you will be prompt to set the selected wallpaper for the home screen, lock screen or both.
Improved system backup coverage: Android backup covers more device settings in Android Nougat, including accessibility settings, run-time permissions for apps, Wi-Fi hotspot settings and Wi-Fi network restrictions.
New and updated emoji: Do you speak fluent Emoji? Bring your words to life with all-new emoji, including redesigned human emoji with multiple skin tones.
Emergency information: Emergency Information lets you add information such as name, blood type, allergies, and an emergency contact so that emergency responders can view this information through your device's lock screen. To add or edit emergency information, open Settings from the app tray, scroll down to "Users", then tap on "Emergency information".
Accessibility
Accessibility settings in initial setup: Now you can configure accessibility features for your phone during the setup tutorial. Set magnification gesture, font size, display size, and TalkBack right out of the box.
Accessibility mono output: Assists users with hearing loss in one ear by combining stereo left and right channel output to a single mono stream. To turn Mono audio on, open Settings from the app tray, then go to "Accessibility" and scroll down until you find the "Mono audio" switch.
Variable text to speech: Allows setting a wider range for speech speed and pitches. Open Settings from the app tray, then go to "Accessibility" and scroll down to "Text-to-speech output". Use the sliders to adjust the speech rate and pitch.
Size of display elements: In Android Nougat not only can you change the font size, but also the size of the display elements, like icons and images. To adjust the size of your display elements, open Settings from the app tray and tap "Display", then scroll down and select "Display size".
Authentication
Trusted face improvements: Unlocking your phone with Trusted face is easier than ever. Trusted face, a part of Smart Lock, has new facial recognition, which is less sensitive to conditions like lighting, facial decorations and how you hold your phone.
Call screening: Allows the default phone app to screen/block incoming calls.
Internationalization
Multi locale language support and preferences: Now you can add multiple languages in your device settings to customize experiences for you, like showing search results in multiple languages and not offering to translate webpages in a language you already know. You can even sort your language preferences so that apps can pick the right keyboard & text for you.
Locales by language: We added the option to select locales for commonly used languages. When you add a new language, you will be prompted to select the locale (if supported for the selected language).
Moto experiences
New Moto action: We added a new Moto action to your phone: Swipe to shrink the screen. To learn more about this action, open the Moto app from the app tray, then go to "Actions" and tap "Swipe to shrink the screen".
Fingerprint sensor for screen lock (Moto G Plus only): We added a new setting to disable and enable locking the screen when the screen is on and you touch the fingerprint sensor. To access this setting, open Settings from the app tray, scroll down to "Security", then tap on the screen lock gear icon.
INSTRUCTIONS
For a successful installation, we recommend installing this update when the battery in your phone is at least 50% charged and you are connected to a Wi-Fi network.

Why not skip 7.0 and go straight to 7.1 instead cool features with this one like Smart Storage or App Shortcuts in Google Now Launcher.

excellent news

Please update to camera2 API and fix the SD card issues....

Hmm., sounds pretty typical to me. Hoping for a MFN invite, but as you know, their opt-in options are strangely missing. I should be opted in already, but it's still odd.

According to their history, we'll get nougat in Jan.
Possibly 7.1

now available for G4, our turn will be after Z play gets it Q1 2017

SlideOver is part of me and my brother's Sliding Messaging Pro project. This is only part of what it can do within our app, but we decided to release this part for free so that users can use this incredible feature without being confined to Sliding Messaging Pro!
This app is meant to be used alongside your messaging app of choice, whether that is the stock app, Go SMS, Handsent, Textra, or any of the other 3rd party messaging apps available on the Play Store. It is meant to extend upon that apps functionality and give you extra features that aren't present in most/any apps.
Features:
- An always on "bubble" to access your latest messages from anywhere (without even leaving your current app!)
- Quickly reply to a new message with the Quick Peek option, brought up by a simple tap on the SlideOver bubble
- Easily move and manage the SlideOver bubble with a long press to drag option and a double click to change the sliver width option.
- The SlideOver bubble will show contact pictures and some of the message with a very cool animation on new SMS messages
- Option to "ping" the SlideOver bubble when the user unlocks the device and there is an unread message.
- Reply without pausing your YouTube and most other video services and games (something that usual quick reply boxes could never do!)
- TONS of customization options
- and lots of other stuff
Usage:
1.) Download SlideOver Messaging
2.) Open the main app to view the settings page and apply any of the settings you think fit!
3.) That's it! Now just wait for a new message to come though and view it via the SlideOver bubble and reply quickly to conversations via the quick peek dialog!
Notes:
Some 3rd party messaging apps block the text message receivers that I use to display the messages to the SlideOver bubble. It is a very easy workaround though luckily, simply uninstall and then re-install your 3rd party messaging app (such as Go SMS) and the messages will come up in both your notification tray (through the 3rd party app) and the SlideOver bubble (through my app).
Very simple fix
If you like what we have done here, support us through a purchase of Sliding Messaging Pro! As I said, that app takes the functionality of SlideOver to a whole new level with an awesome pop-up reply dialog and some other neat customization and features!
Hope you enjoy!

It is because android is killing the service as you run out of memory, you can check the foreground service option and that will put a persistent notification that will stop it from killing the service.
Restarting your phone will also clear up memory if you really don't want to use the persistent notification option.

I have a rooted S4 and I have plenty of available memory, you think that is the issue. Only issue with persistent it that you get stuck with the
new text icon in your system tray.
Thanks

Android has to move around and allocate memory for different processes. Believe me, that is the problem. That is how services work in android, it gets killed to make room for other apps service. That is the problem, android kills background tasks when it thinks the system doesn't need them, even if they are being used. That is the point of turning it into a foreground service.
I realize that the persistent notification causes an icon in the notification drawer because that is how the task is turned foreground and tells android to keep it working all the time.
I lol'd at the discussion above. ANYWAYS...
Nice looking app mate Will give it a spin sometime

I have the same issue; nothing to do with memory or the service getting killed.
For some reason it keeps resizing the the circle to zero. Going into settings and resizing it back fixes it.
Similar issue with the placement of the box itself on the screen. If I drag it to a new location it will revert back to the top of the screen after a while.
Stock vzw Nexus.
Using Verizon HTC One.
When an incoming text arrives, clicking the contact bubble doesn't show the conversation like in the example photos. it's just blank. If I try to send a response anyway, the app crashes.
I really want this to work, because this is exactly what I'm looking for in a texting app. something that only handle the quick response, and not an entire replacement for the phone's messaging app. I have Ninja SMS installed as well, but I disabled that app before installing this one, because I expected the two not to play nicely. I will try again with Ninja SMS completely removed, and a reboot. in the mean time, I've sent a crash report from the phone.
EDIT: Removed Ninja SMS, rebooted. no resolution. At that point, the standard messaging also had notifications turned off, so I thought maybe by having an unread notification for a text, the app would pick up on it, but that didn't work either. I'm still getting a blank black SMS box, only the stock messaging app installed.
No rating for now, but once it works, it's a 5-star for sure!

Have you tried disabling the Double tap action, which allows for resizing the bubble? When I turn it on, on S2, it seems to resize to between 0-4% each time if I just quick double tap. I have this turned off anyway, but just tested after seeing your issue.

OK, it looks like it isn't able to read from your messaging database correctly... I will look into it after the weekend and see what I can do to fix it

Double tapping changes the sliver width if that is what you mean?
And I don't save the location of the message box, whenever the service restarts it will revert back to the top of the screen, this was by design

I am experiencing same issue
One more thing, the sliver completely disappears when in landscape mode.
Another tiny bug: in settings. Number of Contacts 1 - 5 is set with a "%" which doesn't belong. (showing 5% when should show 5)

Did you read my replys to them? It is most likely because you are double tapping to change the sliver width and if you don't drag out, it will disappear. The link at the top of the setting menu is a tutorial video that demonstrates this functionality

It is because I use a staic size down the screen instead of a percent. It was a feature that was requested with it in sliding messaging so that the bubble is gone when watching YouTube videos and such things. Just move the bubble up a little and it will be seen in landscape.
And yeah I should probably get the percent thing changed haha forgot about that one!
I like having mine towards the bottom where my thumb can reach I can suffer for now. lol.I odn't use landscape all that often
Is it possible to have a percent from top instead of units from top?

Of course it is possible, but I just don't think I want it that way, cause I can't hide it when certain apps or something like YouTube is up, and that us when it gets distracting and annoying, so I want the user to know it isn't going to adjust on landscape so if they want to see it, they will have to put it in the upper area. We will see though, I may make an option to use percent in landscape instead, don't know yet
I noticed the app got an update, but the update didn't fix my problem still can't read any messages coming thru, or reply to them.
It's interesting because the slider circle shows the contact photo and the message, but the box when I click the circle can't read the stuff. it's DEFINITELY finding the text at first, then not knowing what to do with it. what a mystery!

You are correct, the changelog didnt say it was fixed, and it hasn't been. i was out of town all weekend and that update changed a total of 2 lines of code. just added a function in there for a request from someone else.
The problem is the same one that many startup texting apps have on android, since there is no documentation, some OEM's do things with sms differently. HTC saves their messages differently than others, including google, so i can't read them in from the database. the reason that they show up on the bubble when it is incoming is because i pull that information from the broadcast that is sent and it is very easy to manage.
I know how to fix it, but it will take some time, and that is a luxury that i don't have much of right now, I am a college student and am very busy with my classes. So no, it hasn't been fixed yet, but i know how from sliding messaging. I will get around to it as soon as i can.
EDIT: there ya go, did it this morning. You will have to override stock, it is the second to last option under the settings menu.
I didn't mean to sound impatient. I saw by the changelog that it wasn't fixed. it was just funny for me because I saw the update and thought "oh yay!" then tried it again and said "oh damn."
thanks so much! I'l try it right away
EDIT: I found the problem. If I uncheck Quick Peek: Unread Only, then everything is fixed, even without checking the stock override option.

Android 5.0 totally sucks

I don't even want to compare Android 5.0 to iOS or Windows Phone. Let's compare it with Android 4.4:
1) In new Android long pressing a power button only shows "Switch Off" whereas in Android 4.4 you could enable/disable flight mode and enable/disable silent mode/vibration. In new Android to do the same you have to use a volume slider and then press the screen at least several times.
1a) How can you hide the panel which changes the priority mode? Nothing works - it just hides on its own after a while!
2) Recent Apps button shows phantom apps I removed from the recents.
3) Recent Apps button often shows bad previews (visually distorted).
4) The lock screen doesn't automatically show an unlock widget - once again, an extra swipe just to unlock your phone.
5) To remove all removable notifications you have to scroll them all down! In Android 4.4 the "Mark all read" button was always present at the top!
6) There's too much white everywhere and the whole palette feels inconsistent even among different Google(TM) apps.
7) Quick settings which you pull from the top totally suck. In Android 4.4, e.g. long pressing Wi-Fi icon called a Wi-Fi networks dialog - in Android 5.0 you have to go to settings (a tiny icon at the right top corner).
7a) Quick Settings occupy 100% of the screen estate and they are ridiculously sparse (it looks like 75% of screen space if filled with void).
8) The flow of notifications is totally ****ed up. New temporary notification appear on top of the list and hide permanent apps, so to view the latter you have to scroll the list. I don't know why but permanent notifications at least for me are equally or more important.
9) 12 and 13 Wi-Fi channels for 802.11n are totally disabled no matter which Nexus device you own (US or the rest of the world).
Other annoyances:
1) There's no way to configure the keyboard click sound or its volume - in Android 4.4 I could clearly hear keypresses, in Android 5.0 they are practically mute.
2) There's no gallery app and the Photos app is an abomination. The Gallery app from 4.4 hardly works (it crashes when you try to edit a photo).
3) Backup settings have been modified and now they don't allow to specifically backup /sdcard/DCIM - now it's done via Photos.
To tell you the truth I cannot find a single worthy Android 5.0 feature that I really love and appreciate.
I only use my gmail account for the play store and hangouts. I have zero interest in my gmail email, I've got my own exchange server and work's. So I don't have the gmail syncing emails, contacts or calendar so why is it that the new calendar is full of gmail entries and emails from my wife show her gmail image rather than the image I've added to her exchange contact? The contact app shows the right image so why not when accessing my own exchange server? If I get an email from her work address which is on the same exchange contact I get the right image.
In the new form over function calendar there's no option for month view. Sure you can tap the month but in 4.4 you could open it up at the month view and see exactly what days had events on them.
Unless someone who's played around with it more than I have has some solutions I'll be heading back to 4.4 as 5 adds nothing for me.

No Root Solutions.. (Updated 14/12/15)

No root ? How to Disable certain apps and enable features usually found with many root devices..
Disable Storage Checker
Via adb (nag when under 25% storage left, this disables that nag)
Code:
adb shell pm hide com.sonymobile.storagechecker
Disable Whats New
Code:
adb shell pm hide com.sonymobile.entrance
Other apps I disable, these can be disabled via the App Manager in system settings
File Commander (ES Explorer is much better imho)
Playstation Video
Xperia Japanese Keyboard
Xperia Chinese Keyboard
Xperia Lounge
Xperia Lounge Pass
Sony Sketch (this app can be fully un-installed, rather than disabled)
Have more suggestions ?.. I will add them to the list...
Enable Immersive mode
Download All in one gestures from the Google Play Store.. Enable All in one gestures in Accessibility settings and assign soft key (i use back) to Toggle Immersive full screen mode, there is a whitelist as certain apps function better with the NAV bar enabled, these are;
Any Keyboards & Launchers
Album
Camera
Contacts
Messaging
Phone
Settings
Chomp SMS
How to use keyboards in Immersive Mode?
Via Adb enter the following command..
Code:
adb shell pm grant com.phoenixstudios.aiogestures android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS; pm grant com.phoenixstudios.aiogestures android.permission.SET_ANIMATION_SCALE
Screen off by double tapping Status bar
This option can be enablled in All in one Gestures, under the Status Bar heading... Tip set lock sound to none if system wide screen lock sound is set..
Audio Profiles via Status Bar
Download Audio Profiles from the Google play Store. Launch app and Enable Audio Profiles in Accessibility settings when prompted
Back in the App, define the profiles you require. I have Normal, Calls Only, Silent, Vibrate, Headphones.
Disable any notification preference in settings and Enable close Main Screen on Profile selection
Launch All in One Gestures, under Swipe, select upper Left hand corner, Swipe right and choose Audio Profiles under Applications
Now when you swipe upper left, you can choose the relevant audio profile you desire
Volume Control via Status Bar
Launch All in One Gestures, under Swipe, select upper Right hand corner, under Action choose Volume then Volume Bar
Now when you swipe upper right, you can control the relevant volume bar you desire
Volume Rocker Mods
Launch All in one Gestures and under Volume + / Long Press, Select Next Track from the Media Controls in the Action menu..
Do the same for Volume - selecting Previous Track from the Media Controls in the Action menu
Ad BLock ?
Use Adguard. this create a local vpn passthrough which works efficiently as most ad blocks for rooted devices
Advanced Clipboard
Download Native Clipboard for the Google Play Store and enable Native Clipboard in Accessibility settings and configure to your requirements. Can be activated by double pressing in any text field.
Pie Control
Download either PIe Control or Simple control from the Google Play Store. Enable the desired choice via Accessibility Settings and configure to your requirements

I didn't know about Adguard and am very glad you mentionned it as ad blocking was the main reason I wanted root (I used to use MOAAB) ! I bought a year license. Regarding All in one gestures I was very interested in the double-tap to screen off but it happens to be too much sensitive: every time I want to tear down the control panel, screen goes off so I removed the app. Thank you anyway for all these bright tips mate !

Pull down click bottom of Status bar.. Not once did I manage to get the screen to turn off..
Regards adguard, it does the job really well, I'm impressed with it.

The problem is that I touch the status bar twice in order to drop down the tool panel completely which, done rapidly, switches off the screen! Do you know what I mean?

I wasnt aware you could do that tbh.. [emoji33]
I just pull down then tap the status bar to get the control panel...
That works for me as the double tap on status bar is an absolute must have for me..

By doing that quick screen doesn't go off?
I totally agree with you besides the turn off button seems quite fragile on this device !

No root ? How to Disable certain apps and enable features usually found with many root devices..

I am trying to find an app the lock volumes to a profile. So for example it it's set to vibrate, clicking the volume button will not change it.
Any thoughts?
thanks

It is free... Subscription though does offers more protection
Adblock plus is completely free and requires a slight proxy configuration for Wifi Connections however this has to be configured for each wifi connection, I'm not entirely sure if it works, not tested yet.. But will report back..

It's a false positive for the battery use, from what I understand it's taking it from where it would usually appear without it from elsewhere. Same scenario as Adguard..
I'm not having issues with the ram side of things
Re Adguard.. If peeps can afford the subscription, it's well worth it. Seems to be by far the best around. 7 day trial out of the box..
The did a Black Friday deal recently.. 50% off..

Oppo F3 Plus Color OS 3.0 Bug Report & OTAs

Hello folks,
I've just received this latest OTA update for Oppo F3 Plus (India)
OTA Release Date: October 27, 2017
ColorOs Version: v3.0.0i
Latest OTA: 171013
Android Security Patch Level: October 5, 2017
Attaching pictures of update notif & changelog
F3 Plus: Bug n Suggestion
Bugs:
1. swiping on homescreens the transition effect is laggy by most of the time but after yesterday's ota update lag was reduced by 50% but with a 4gb of ram n QC chipset, one could never want to see a bit lag on this powerful device
1.1 i just noticed while using messenger when i minimizes the messenger chat head the transition effect is laggy. (already mentioned similar prob with homescreen transition which now says this device animation effects are at low level even though having sexy adreno graphics)
1.2 Again another poor transition effect lag: applied a theme from store which has huge clock on lockscreen and when i turn on the display the clock effect(zooms forward like a bloom) is laggy all the time. when i press on music on left bottom the appearance of music buttons is laggy and swiping up to unlock transition is laggy too...
2. while trying to lock apps from recent apps menu, entire mob gets freeze. rarely happening but didnt faced it after this latest OTA update
3. using Google's «wallpaper» app and setting wallpaper in "Daily wallpaper" mode shows a corrupted photo icon in In-Call background while calling
4. in camera the Bokeh effect is not croping properly which is bluring some upper hair edges n hands part... need to improve the Algorthm to fix it
5. [major] the notifications sound is unchangeable . so irritating to hear the default sound over n over again where there is no option to change it
6. assume im using whatsapp or any other app and a email received and i navigate to gmail via notification and when i press back the OS totally backs to homescreen but not to previously used app which is whatsapp. fix it!
7. in developer options > running services> at bottom the bar view of RAM shows absolutely 0 usage all the time... ram usage code is not linked to it. this is total rubbish . fix it.
8. in dev options> disabled apps> i disabled YouTube app but it still shows up and opens well and works well. what id that disable option suppose to perform? fix it!
9. when swiping down on home screen promotes to search and it shows MEMOS in search list but where is the memo app to search a memo? oops! i have installed Google's Keep and tried to search a word from home screen search but it couldn't search a memo in the end of the day. fix it!
10. [major] recent apps not clearing by pressing X button in recents by says roughly 300mb cleared but then manually closing apps by swiping up closes apps and frees more ram. fix it!
Suggestions:
[*]quick toggles should have been customizable with drag n drop feature n to add more tiles in list (i miss DND tile)
enabling developer options keeps the status bar warning all the way and i couldn't even get to see a time on status bar... i suggest to add a red flashing light on status bar instead of warning msg to turn off dev options all the timee.
[*]i use monochronic display view in developer options while my eyes start to strain becoz b/w display is more efficient in other way comparing to eye protection inverted colors. add monochromatic view in eye protection category
add percentage to calculator in portrait mode as the bottom part of calculator have one Button of free space
add customizable toggles in notif to align as we wish to...
Battery doesn't show usage graph and screen on time to measure the usage... in hardware section it always shows empty but why not a screen time is shown in hardware section?
[*]there is no MENU (3 dots) system in this OS. if i have to open a menu for any app settings i hardly have to open settings and navigation to call, messages, camera etc.. to change its options but why not holding recents button can open its settings and make it even flexible to user?
in recent apps holding an app could've navigate to "app info"
Add S or XS font view in display >font section to make the more content visible for this big display
move apps to sd card or change of installation storage should be introduced
theme store should be customizable while some themes have beautiful ui and clocks but bad icons and i couldnt customization each of them but to apply one whole theme which is sooo unusable of themes flexibility
enabling notification light to each and every app is like being dragged in a hell... allow the notif light enabled to all the apps by default. some users even think this device has no notif light. isnt this pathetic for both user n color os?
allow googles feed on oppo launcher for pleasent way to view updates
video calling via 4g is not available. whyyyy?
group selfie cam is not as bright as normal front cam
[*]music player: seek bar is tiny as needle. hardly finds it correct to seek it . make the seek bar larger
holding back button can kill a current app is not present in dev options as well as color os customization. bring that feature
I have not expected oppo can fix all these bugs as they suck at updates but im so happy to say that oppo has released one major update for F3 and F3 plus devices which introduced many new features of color os and new ui which is more alike iphone now.
Here is the source to know and download and flash the Nougat Rom into your F3/Plus

[SOLVED] Heads up notifications on S8+ / power notifications controls

Hi,
Since I wanted to enable heads up notification/banner for all incoming Gmail notifications on my s8+ (Nougat 7.0, AQK7), I went the same way as I did on all my other Nougat based phones:
1. Enabled System UI Tuner (hold Settings button in notification panel and release it and System UI Tuner will appear in Settings (very bottom right above Developer Options (if enabled));
2. In System UI Tuner enabled Power notification controls allowing you to change notification levels from 1 to 5;
3. Opened Gmail App Notification settings (there are many ways to get there but the easiest is to long press on a gmail notification in the notification panel and wait for it to open or hit more setting on other Nougat based firmwares);
4. Tried changing the level of importance but it does not work. Although it appears the same way as on other nougat firmwares, you cannot actually tap one of the marked points on the slider (levels of notif.importance)..

}
Anyone has a solution to this ? How to unlock / edit notifications levels same as on any other nougat based android ? I want gmail to appear the same way whatsapp/sms messages appear and not just silently appear in the notification panel.
Floatify seems to be the only option.
I'm having exactly the same problem!
I was thinking that a custom firmware problem, but apparently not!

I managed to somewhat solve this issue (see bellow in detail). Besides missing banner/heads-up notification from Gmail I also wanted to have just regular lock-screen (AOD disabled) which wakes up on any notification (unfortunately on Samsung (Nougat 7.0, AQK7) only default messaging app wakes up the lock screen (for example, Whatsapp and Gmail do not wake the screen and only Led indicator is triggered when screen is off (AOD disabled, lock screen mode set to Swipe only).
1. Ok, so here's how I managed to have heads up banner type notifications from Gmail when S8+ is unlocked:
1.1. Installed Floatify Lockscreen (I have also Floatify Pro Unlocker which I had bought long time ago, so I am not sure if all features set in my config file will work on free version);
1.2. Configured Floatify Lockscreen (see my Floatify Lockscreen config file in attachment that you can also use) only for Gmail notifications when phone is unlocked (all other Apps are left unchecked see with all other apps you will have issues with double notifications considering that in Sammy firmware you cannot adjust Notification level of importance.
1.3. Baaaam..now when unlocked I get gmail notifications heads up with option to delete, quick reply, direct reply with pre-set replies.
2. 2nd issue to solve – any received notification wakes up the screen (AOD disabled, Edge led notif. disabled (no point of having it if does not work on all apps properly), lock screen – swipe to unlock):
2.1. Install Glimpse Notification;
2.2. Enable notification access to it and baaaam -> any incoming notification wakes up the screen with all available options to quick reply/delete/mark as read.
Floatify configuration backup:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1KWvkW3kc_Y14OZlps_anq4afWYJ1RLgO/view?usp=sharing
^^^^^^^^
To use this you must:
1. Install Floatify;
2. Go to Help -> Backup -> Backup;
3. Replace backup file you created with mine (location Internal Storage -> Floatify);
4. Go to Help -> Backup -> Restory.
5. Baaaaaaaaaam and you have Gmail banner notifications wth ability to fully expande the message + with 4 actions to take (quick reply, delete, direct reply or go straight to the app). The style blends in very well on stock S8+ theme and rounded corners.
GHave you tried a hard reset? Would it help?
Do you mean this?

One more way to solve this is to use note 8 firmware ([ROM][N8PORT][STABLE][N][7.1.1][BQK6][06.12.17][SM-G95XF/FD/N] IronMan-Rom V1.1.0). With n8port superman rom ai tuner works + notification levevs can be changed, meaning you can set gmail and any other app that sends notifications to allow peaking :fingers-crossed::good:
Im running at moment the Batman Ron, and already tried with IronMan rom. Both roms have the same problem for me. I'm discussed it at the official topic of Batman rom.

You are wrong man, since you are accessing the options wrongly (you probably trying to change levels through Settings->Notifications but that won't get it done).
Step by step to get it to work on IronMan Rom:
1. Fully expand Quick Toggle panel and hold on Settings button for few seconds;
2. Once you release it System UI Tuner will be unlocked and available at Settings -> System UI Tuner;
3. Open System UI Tuner;
4. Go to Other -> Power notification controls -> click ON;
5. Then make sure you have a unread message in the notification panel from Gmail or any other app which by default has importance level bellow 4 set by the firmware default settings;
6. Press and hold on the received notification for few seconds and options to change notifications levels (see screenshot) will open up. Hit the star with A in it to unlock the possibility to change levels. Starting with Level 4 (gmail on s8+ firmware is locked at level 3 therefore Peak/Banner does not appear while unlocked) you will get Banner notifications from gmail. :good:
Important -> Edge Led notifications have to be disabled for this to work, because Edge Led notifications are totally different type of notifications that appear as floating message. + I don't use AOD (Security settings -> No fingeprint, just Swipe), since I want to have just a regular lock screen that wakes up one every received notification, but enabling AOD won't affect notifications that you receive on an unlocked phone.

Thanks for your time and effort to answer me.
Ok, the System Tuner UI part is ok! I enabled and set to on the PowerNotifications.
But when I try to change the importance level, it send me to the Notification option on System Menu.
I can't select like you showing in the print screen.
And I can't changed at all, it's always configured as Level 4.

Are you doing this on IronMan rom?
You have to long hold on a notification that is located in the notification panel and option to change importance levels will be accesible (for some apps even without clicking the Star icon with A in it).
