So install OTA or not ?
Any kind of problems like bootloop N all happen ??

There are many threads here about 7.1.1 just read up. I'd stay put if I were you at least until the 2-3rd preview that's usually what I do. Let it get better. That's my 2???¢ anyway. There's TONS of info on the update all over XDA.
See this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-5x/general/android-7-1-developer-preview-t3483758/post69217022
This shouldn't be in themes and apps section.. js.

The link I posted shows where one person updated from 7.0 to 7.1.1 rooted using FlashFire app. I haven't done that as of yet but that's up to you. Just always have a backup and access to fastboot and a factory image on computer extracted and ready to flash in case you have problems. Part of XDA is searching and reading.. I always do a google search and add XDA on the end and I can usually find anything pretty quickly. I would wait until they (Google) gets all the kinks worked out. Maybe like preview 2 or 3. My advice is check that link and read the thread and you will gain lots of info on 7.1.1.

Just saying, but there are probably so many bugs because you did it dirty flash with previous customizations done to the system. Clean flash and then try Smooth as butter for me

Yeah, the same for me in a clean install. Real smooth.

[Q] If I root my Nexus S...

Will I still receive the android updates? Ive always been sketchy about rooting my phone because i want to keep the android system as up to date as possible. Will I still receive the android updates if I root my phone or will I have to manually do it somehow?
Much thanks
If you flash a custom rom then you won't recieve the official OTA updates from Google.
If you root the stock rom you will still receive ota updates. You can also manually flash updates(best method). Please do alot of reading about rooting before attempting anything. Had you done this you would have known the answer to your question. Learn how to use adobe and fastboot. Don't be lazy and use a one click root method as this will not teach you anything about your phone and you will not know how to fix a problem should one arise. Thanks for posting in the correct section!

You'll be just fine
Also, if your rooted and running a, custom ROM, you don't need OTA updates, as the ROM developers incorporate the updates into their ROMs, within a day or two usually. I don't even worry about updates from OEMS or Google anymore.
Pipsqueak approved this message.
One click is certainly looking like a bad idea as the ota does come through and then screws up your superuser. I've been arguing w my phone for a week trying to get past this and put cm7 on it.

[Q] Viper XL OTA update issue.

I recently Rooted my At&t one x and installed the lasted Viper XL. i had an issue during the first flash of the ROM but fixed it by restoring back up and re flashing, however i did not select wipe flash this time to see if it would work, sure enough it worked so i started customizing and exploring what it has. Then i was trying to figure out the OTA feature and sure enough i did not have it. I found one solution which was to re flash the ROM but i do not want to lose all my setting and redo it all again. so the question is...is there a way to get the OTA update feature without re flashing or at least a way to re flash and keep all my settings apps and what not intact?
new to rooting android, feared it for a while after bricking my first HTC one X. Any help is greatly appreciated

I think I know the confusion
When you get an OTA update from Viper, it is obtained by going to System > About > Software updates, exactly the way you would normally on a carrier rom.
If you have downloaded the latest Viper, which will be 3.1.0 , there will be no OTA updates, as that is the latest version
Hope that helps you out.
I'm confused why it's so hard to post a question in the correct section?

Sorry for wrong forum didn't see roms as part of q and a.
So regarding this answer...the ota update feature will only appear when there's an update? I find this strange because there is no way to for viper to check tosee if you have the most current version. But if you could confirm this that would be appreciated

Lots of people put questions in the general forum, and its get a bit annoying. Also, you run a much greater chance of it being answered if you put in the in the Q&A section, and we don't end up annoying the moderators who then move it for you (which it looks like someone has)
Basically, if you sentence ends with a ? it belongs in Q&A, regardless of what you are asking about, ROM or phone or anything else.
The Viper rom is coded to check the Venom Hub periodically for updates, and will end up telling you there is an update available, similar to if a carrier rom had put an update up. I can confirm this is very much the case, as I have had my phone when it was on the 2.xx version, and my phone told me I had an update available, which, when I checked, told me it was a Viper update, not a carrier update.
That being said, I actually have that option unticked, as I keep quite a close eye on the Viper rom thread and know when there's an update before the phone does!! I have no idea how often the phone checks for updates btw.

For minor updates to most any custom ROM, you can just flash without wiping data (factory reset). But always wipe Dalvik and cache. This is called a "dirty flash" by some.
With ViperXL OTA updates in particular, you should just be fine dirty flashing.
If an update to a custom ROM requires a factory reset, the dev will usually say so.

FYI: TWRP has nothing to do with what issue you may be having in regards to flashing. I have no problem with my stock rooted ROMS. Will flash on TWRP just fine. If you have an issue post the error and I can help you troubleshoot it. More than likely its bad binaries or something. Some recoveries are certainly more picky than others.
Also, you should post the device type so people dont try to flash this on the wrong version of Nexus 7 2013. There are a couple models.

Anyone has flashable 4.4.1 radio for Nexus 5? [Got it and GPS issue FIXED!!]

Hi,
I want to try the GPS fix solution by flashing the Android 4.4.1 radio on my Nexus 5.
GPS issue: https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=72311
But after searching the internet, I could not find it.
It is not even listed in the official Nexus 5 download image.
Anyone has it?
Please if you can share.
Thank you.

I only found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/goo...t/modem-nexus-5-flashable-modems-efs-t2514095
On your RESOURCES link.
But, I don't know how to flash it. When I extracted the linked "modem" (is this the radio?), I got 2 files.
I am expecting to have a single .img radio image.
If you are interested in the GPS issue that I mentioned here is the link:
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=72311
Basically, the GPS was working fine, perfect prior to 4.4.3 / 4.4.4 update.
A lot of people (if not all) fixed the issue by flashing the radio from 4.4.1.

You don't need the SDK to use fastboot. Fastboot is very easy to use. You can simply install fastboot using the 15 second installer. Please have a read of my "adb and fastboot. What is it?" thread.
I know you only went in my thread to find the radios, but do have a look at the other info a guide threads there. Your world will open up.

I have done the trouble in the past with installing the whole SDK, then maintaining it.

No problem. Any time.
We definitely like to help people who are willing to learn, so respect to you for that!
It's much easier to help someone in trouble who is configured ahead of time and understand than it is to help someone in trouble who doesn't understand basic commands - this is why we (almost everyone) recommend fastboot (and adb in some cases) over toolkits.
Any adb or fastboot questions, please feel free to ask them in that thread.

This rom is super cool. Im running a different one that's in the same section, it seems to have the UI more accurate like the V20. The devs there seem to be hella active. Ive seen updates every few days for both roms. Runs smooth and battery life is much better than stock in my opinion, cant tell if its a placebo though so Id recommend you test yourself.

I saw a post in the Dev section that stated both 20J & 20L are both set to Anti-Rollback version 2. As long as you stay within the same anti-rollback version then you should be able to move back and forth between 20J & 20L. I believe 20E is Anti-Rollback version 1.

Yeah, they are active but it is expected since they have a lot of sales in the Asian market. Can you please get me the link to the V20-like ROM?

Can someone say whether this ROM has init.d support? You can tell because there will be a folder called init.d at /system/etc/init.d. It may or may not be empty. If there is something in there then it's a pretty good indication. I usually drop a file in there that will run on boot and produce a log file in /data. If that log file doesn't appear, then no init.d support is present.

Can't find it using root browser, though it maybe me. Let's wait for another person to confirm.
I'll go ahead and assume the answer is no unless someone confirms otherwise. If I knew how to mod kernels, ramdisks, etc then I would add it myself. There is a universal init.d app that can add artificial support for this in the meantime, so not a huge deal. But kernel/ROM support for it is superior.

I believe this is the ROM you are looking for: RadeonMaya
I've had it installed for about 2 hours now and all is well.
V. 4.0 Back up first. My idea for easier update, wipe Dalvik / System / Cache and then install the 4.0
For Clean install, wipe Dalvik / System / Data / Cache then install

How did you extract this? The apps I used on the phone say a password is required. And it's a TWRP backup to be restored?
Edit: got it from the thread there! Duh

Glad you got it worked out, it took me a minute to figure out the password also lol. So far I've noticed my data speeds are slow and I only see 4G and not 4G LTE at the top so far....

Ah ok lol haha, cool. All my andoid apps on the phone are failing to extract it, even with the password.
But as for the LTE, I think you may need to edit the build.prop if it isn't set up to be a Tmobile device. Or someone posted a tmo build.prop file in the thread about getting the 20l OTA, I believe

If you replace the build.prop in this rom with a stock one it will get stuck at LG and won't boot any further...at least in my experience. I'm sure it's something easy but who knows
