[Completed] Cannot restore my Android - XDA Assist

Hi xda geeks!
I've encountered a problem when restoring my phone through embeded recovery mode on android 6.0 marshmallow.
It is something i've done many other times.
I use to go to recovery mode and backup my phone on my sd card using the voice 'back up user data'
then after using that file i could restore my data. This time i did everything as usual but the restoring process stops and a message appears saying that my backup file is out of date and that i need to re-backup my phone (which is impossible because i don't have the data anymore).
i absolutely need to restore my data!
please help.
Is there any fix for this?
I have a wiko fever running marshmallow. 6.0
Thanks in advance!!!

You can install ROM Manager from PlayStore and use Clockworkmod to backup your ROM. Or you could also backup your rom by entering your device's recovery. You can trigger it by pressing a specific combination (Volume Up, Volume Down or both alternatively - depends on your device) of buttons while the device is switching on.
You can find elaborate explanations here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1587607
Hope I helped.
In a nutshell, what you are looking for is called a making nandroid backup. There are many programs which can accomplish this. My favorite is 4EXT recovery, which you can download from the play store. It does require you have root to install 4EXT! After you have a program such as 4EXT or ClockworkMod which can make nandroid backups, then you can save them and restore them in the future. This is how you can return your phone to the exact way it was when you make the backup.
thank you for advising me 4EXT recovery and ROM Manager.
What about titanium backup?
i made a backup(i hope so) by Titanium backup, by selecting the option "Backup all user apps and system data".
my questions are:
1) is that enough for back up?
2) how can i restore it after installing a new rom?
3) in between the process of installing if my phone become dead or blank how it will possible to access titanium backup?
oh its so much complicated. plz any developer help me.
thanks in advance.
installed ROM Manager Premium v5.0.2.7
if select
1) "Flash CWM Recovery"
asks to confirm ph model-> select iris 454 -> says "it does not have an official supported CWM yet. Have u installed a cwm based recovery manually?" -> if i select "yes," 2 option comes for confirm version cmw 2.x and cmw 3.x -> after selecting one of those nothing happen.
2) Backup current ROM
displays "new backup name..." -> if i click OK the system reboot. -> in reboot process an android symbol comes and suddenly it lay down like a wounded man. -> system hangs ->only removing battery makes it solve.
Yes, that's enough backup. You have backed up all your system data and applications. So you can restore your phone's last known working state.
After installing a new ROM, you can download Titanium Backup from PlayStore and use it to restore everything.
Note: Some ROM's don't have PlayStore available in their package in which case you'd have to download the gapps package separately and flash it too while flashing the ROM.
You cannot use Titanium Backup if your phone doesn't come alive. You'd have to restore the stock ROM or flash some other known-to-be-working ROM. You can then restore your stuff.

I've never used a nandroid backup, I usually do a backup with go backup (sms, phone log, wifi passwords and apps with preferences) which is an easy and intuitive app. If something fails i have a tested rom which i flash before do anything else.
Why it's better to do a nandroid backup and not just this??

thnx dear.
titanium backup is enough for me.
but now what about" if your phone doesn't come alive"? how should i restore the stock ROM if it is unavailable?
can i make stock rom or make a back up of stock rom? how?
Sewrizer said:
this means that your device is not supported by CWM recovery so there is not much to do, unless your stock recovery can perform the same tasks as CWM. for instance sgs2 recovery mode only allows you to install zip and to wipe cache and factory reset.
On the other hand there is a risky method you may try but i am not sure whether it would work. Install odin on your PC or mobile odin on your device and look for a kernel which has CWM recovery in it. THIS IS A RISKY OPERATION SO THINK BEFORE YOU DO THIS. I'm saying this because i bricked my sgs2 and the only way i could make it work was to restore, but again, you need CWM to restore. good luck.
hit thanks if i helped or reply/ send me a PM if you need further details.

You can find the entire procedure for backing up your Stock ROM here: http://androidadvices.com/backup-stock-rom-clockworkmod-rom-manager/
In order to restore Stock ROM, turn off your phone, boot your phone into recovery and use the restore option in the screen you see.

[Q] Device Hung up on boot screen-SVHD

Hi All,
Today suddenly my device hung up on Android screen and it doesn't go forward. I waited for like 10-15 min, pulled the battery out and rebooted but nothing happens(it still is stuck up on boot screen). I have been on this ROM for more than 8 months from now. What could go wrong suddenly?
Device: Inspire 4G
ROM: SVHD
Can anyone suggest me how to get past it without probably loosing my data?
Thanks!!

no no..dont restore the data in recovery
use titanium backup to extract the wanted APKs and data from the backup after installing a clean ROM
May I suggest restoring your broken backup (even if it fails) and reinstall SVHD over it without wiping anything except Dalvik, cache and battery stats. If everything else fails checkout one of the newer kitkat roms and manually restore your data partition or anything else needed. You can manually backup data or any other partition through AROMA file manager through recovery hope I help you out bro. Have a nice day.

Hello,
My DHD hung up with Cyanogenmod, one week after intallation. the same problem with SVHD.
several roms were tested, some with bugs and others without bugs but slow in using or other reboots when the camera is used.
Finally, I installed a rooted stock rom, (Android 2.3.5), every thing works correctly.

[Q] Unfortunately "<system app>" has stopped

Hi there, i am newbie here and this is my first post. So i'm not quite sure if im following all the forum rules properly or if im using the right terms to explain my issue. Please overlook the same and help me asap.
Im using a Canvas 2 a110, rooted,
I had installed some custom rom,
the name is like MMX_JB Stock rom or something,
i am not able to access my phone so i cant check either.
In the process of troubleshooting, i have now installed the Thunderzapv2 kernel
Please let me know if any more details are required.
The issue
Out of nowhere, my phone just popped up a message saying "Unfortunately, Launcher has stopped".
I did a reboot and it was still the same.
Now since the launcher isnt working, i cant get around the apps or do anything.
I try to open the Settings app from the notification panel, but then a msg saying "Unfortunately, Settings has stopped" pops up.
If there are new messages, i can open the Hideitpro app, but i cant click a single thing coz the Launcher error notification
keeps popping up. And i ve to press Ok and any app that is open closes.
So basically i cannot do anything but press the power button and switch off. And i have no idea how i messed up my system files.
I created a backup in CWM. Deleted all system and user data and flashed the same ROM again.
Then i could use the phone like new. But the issue is that i really need to get some of my messages and contacts back.
So i entered CWM again and chose Advanced Restore. Then selected Data from the options.
I only needed the data so thats all i restored. Did not restore system/cache/boot or any of that.
I reboot thinking all my data will be back with my system files back in place.
However, i get the same errors and issues again like before. So now i only have the option to either forget all data
and use the phone as new. Or keep the data when the system files are corrupted somehow.
Please let me know how i can restore my data and make my mob work properly again.
Thanks and Regards.

Hi there,
Don't worry about it, it can be cured as before. Just answer my questions as accurately as you can:
1) How did you take the backup and how much was the backup file size?(complete step by step process that you followes and which ROM was installed in your phone when you were taking the backup? If possible, which kernel was installed at the time of taking backup?)
2) Which ROM you flashed again?
And how?
3) how you tried to restore the data back?
If you can give some more information which can help, please provide.
And, don't worry about it. Your phone will work as before

Hi there,
Currently i have installed the same old custom rom i used before and the phone is working.
But as mentioned before there seems to be no way to restore my data.
1. I created a backup after the phone system files got corrupted. Using CWM.
The backup i scurrently in my external storage card. Ext/clockworkmod- two folders (backup & blobs)
The total backup size is 1.09 gb.
The custom ROM (rooted) that i was using and have currently installed is Micromax_a110_jellybean_stock_cwm_paplu3
I have been using this rom for more than a year now.
Backed up data using the backup option in CWM recovery.
The kernel that i had at that time, i dont remember at all. It may have been something like 1.xxx. But im not sure.
The kernel i currently have is Thunderzap 2
2. The current ROM is the same. I just deleted all system and user data after taking backup and installed
the zip file using the "Install zip from sd card" option in CWM.
3. Tried to restore after flashing by going to CWM, selecting "Advanced Restore", and then "Data"

Hey. NO! NO!
I have not found a fix. I could make my mob work by flashing even before. Thats not the problem.
Let me try to explain in brief.
My mob suddenly crashed all of a sudden. And i could not take a backup.
The only option i had was to flash. So i did that by taking a backup from CWM.
I flashed the mob and now its working. But i am not able to restore data that i backed up using CWM.

Hi nyazmohsin,
You said your phone is working now so, i got confused.
If you still have the backup file in your phone, try doing this:
1) goto CWM --> backup and restore --> restore --> chose the backup file
--> restoration process will begin --> let it complete.
Note: Donot go for advanced restore
2) Now after the restore is complete --> wipe data/factory reset --> wipe cache partition --> advanced --> wipe dalvik cache --> reboot system
Try this and let me know if this worked.

Hi,
Try these steps and check if the phone is working fine after the reboot.
If it's working fine : goto CWM again and restore the backed up file again > then this time don't wipe data/factory reset > just wipe dalvik cache from advanced.
Check this and let me know.

Out of despair, after trying out the previous procedure I flashed the SUVI rom.
So should i do the above mentioned steps now?
Would it cause any issues since the backed up data is of the custom Jelly bean 4.2.1 rom and the current rom is SUVI?
I can flash the previous rom again and try this procedure if required.

Hi,
Dude you said u had mmx stock jellybean ROM which is supposed to be 4.1.1 and now you are saying it was 4.2.1. You are creating a huge confusion
However, if you want your data back, flash the stock jellybean 4.1.1 by paplu3. And, then follow all steps carefully as i mentioned.
It' all your wish, and if you don't want the data back you can continue using the SUVI ROM.

Recovery unable to mount /sdcard

Hello!
I am sorry if this is the incorrect place to post, but I have a very annoying issue with my OnePlus One!
A few days ago I took the OTA update from Android 4.4.4 all the way to 5.1.1. However, there are quite a few bugs with this version, and the "Material UI" is seriously getting on my nerves so I would like to revert back to my previous version. This should be doable because I performed a Nandroid backup with TWRP before updating the phone. My backup is saved on a USB stick which I connect to the phone via a USB OTG cable, which is perfectly mountable in the Recovery.
My phone is rooted and WAS running TWRP Recovery before I upgraded to Lollipop, this replaced TWRP with Cyanogens stock. When I re-rooted my phone I had to reinstall a custom recovery. For some reason, ADB installing TWRP was just not working (No errors, it just didnt install no matter what) so I opted to try a CWM recovery which did the trick.
Now my issue is that my recovery is unable to mount /sdcard which prevents it from performing backups or restores.
I could really use some help here.
Did you update your backup (TWRP?) as well? What version of it are you on?

I am not sure what you mean by updating the backup. The backup is backed up and left in the state it was when I took it, that is to say Android 4.4.4 and the version of TWRP (The date I installed TWRP the first time) is mid February 2015.
The phones recovery right now is PhilzRecovery which as far as I understand is CWM. Latest version.
Try installing twrp from the CWM recovery.. And before restoring the phone from nandroid try installing the clean stock rom at 4.4.4 and then do the nandroid restore.

And to do this, I would just drop the .img for TWRP into my phones storage and chose it from inside the recovery? Would this really work? It might be my inexperience, but it sounds somewhat risky.

Don't know if CWM recovery supports installing img. Twrp supports img flashing. Check the features of CWM recovery and proceed.

Well... I am not sure how I just managed this, but I was tinkering about inside my TWRP application and tried the "Install TWRP recovery" setting a second time (I tried it before making this thread, the first time it failed), it actually was successful because it booted into TWRP. From here I selected the TWRP-backup I kept and it installed it successfully (With one note, that it during the installation said something among the lines of "Restoring backup without deleting /data/media" or something like that. The phone rebooted itself after it finished updating, and the old Cyanogen/OPO bootanimation plays. But at login (My device is encrypted since long) it tells me my password is incorrect?!
How could this to happen? I've only ever used a single password (numbers only) for my phone encryption. This is very odd.

I guess it's a side effect of restoring up a backup of 4.4.4 on lollipop. Try factory reset from twrp and then flash the backup. I would still suggest to first install the stock firmware of 4.4.4 and flash it and then do a restore of 4.4.4.

Thank me if I helped you.
Also make sure you are using the most recent version of TWRP, as it provides better 'outs' and reliability for newer OP OS versions.

Struggles with restoring my backup

Hey, last week or so I upgraded my onplys 6 to the official android pie. I didn't like it so I wanted back to my previous official android ROM(lastest oxygen) from onplus6, So I tried to flash twrp again. But My phone went straight into QUALCOMM Crash Dump for some reason. After few hours of googling a solution I got twrp again. I tried to restore my backup (still on Android pie) and I flashed my full back up. When it was finished i rebooted my phone and only got a black screen while only the LED was blinking. It was basically bricked. After another few hours of searching I got an solution to unbrick my phone. Now I'm back on oxygen 5.1.5. my question is, how do I back up my previous backup? Just wipe cache en dalvik en flash only the data from my backup? I would really appreciate to hear some tips.
And sorry for my bad English

First of all its nearly impossible to restore a nanroid backup through twrp on an encrypted device, secondly, you said you are on 5.1.5 which is oreo you cannot restore a pie rom when you are running oreo anyway and vice versa, the only way I could successfully backup and restore through twrp was to go decrypted, hope this helps.

***How did you manage to get twrp installed again without the crash dump?
Keep the backups simple. Just system data and boot, nothing else. And don't backup the system or data images. Should restore fine, it does for me anyway.

Question. Why not backup data images? I know twrp doesn't let you by default now, but I'm just curious..
