I am pretty sure it kinda works like oracle virtual box in that it creates a virtual drive of a predetermined size on the internal memory. You should be able to see the file for the rom slot, but you won't be able to access and browse it.
Okay, Thanks, but can I delete this partition? And how?
Thanks again!

guys, I need your help.
I bought a htc one x in september 2012, rogers canada.
i did a factory reset 5 months ago and it did not touch my SD card data. I upgraded to jelly bean and did another factory reset a few days ago, not expecting it would wipe my SD car, but it did.
I am guilty of not making a SD card backup, but I just didn't expect it to be wiped, cause it wasn't the first time i did the factory reset.
So now I am trying to do a data recovery, but my problem is the PC doesn't see the SD card as a drive anymore, and neither do any of the data recovery programs i am trying to use.
I couldn't find any data recovery app that runs from the phone, which would probably see the SD card and recover files.
Any clues on how to get my data (photos, pdfs, docs, music) back?
Thank you!
P.S. did I understend well that the SD card is not actually an SD card but an integrated whatever? Why would they call it an SD card then? stupid?

Your pc won't see it as a usb device with 4.1.1 it will show as a one x in device manager and windows explorer
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
It still follows the secure digital standard so it is still an sd card regardless of being removable or not. It's not stupid for them to call it so as its well published that this device has no removable storage.

You did a factory reset from the bootloader, which corrupts the SD card.
I believe since its corrupted, the only way to fix it is to reformat. Once you do, your data is gone. Some folks might have other ideas. But I think this is what the answer was when the question came up before (not that long ago, maybe a week or 2 ago).
exad already answered the question about it being called an SD card. Plus, some apps access the SD for storing data, and the OS can move some app data to SD. So again, it behaves as an SD, just that its not removable. Calling it something else would be confusing.
yup, the win explorer sees it(but not as a drive...), but the other programs with which I am trying to recover data do not see it so i cannot recover.

driver
I am trying to follow some steps and flash a recovery onto it to mount the sd card as a drive. I have a problem though, although i have installed the htc drivers to my computer, the adb still gives back device not found error(which should mean the driver is not properly installed and or it is a wrong driver) and i dont know enough about drivers and that stuff. can anyone maybe help which driver top install?
HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe is the one that doesn't help seemingly
thanks!

Recovery programs won't read it, since its corrupted. You have to format it using Windows, which will make your data irrecoverable (I believe).
Mounting in recovery won't work either. It won't mount USB when its corrupted. You can still try it. But I don't think it will work.
I hoped this would work, i found it on this forum, but i am stuck on the device not found (driver?) error.
What do you think? thanks redpoint73

Solved
Thank you Redpoint for your thoughts. I hoped that I would find an easy reply to solve my problem but in the end this is what I knew I ultimately had to do.
Quick summary:
Unlocked Bootloader via HTC Dev.
Flashed Recovery, Team Win Recovery Project 2.4.1.0
Mounted SD as a drive via Recovery.
Ran RecoverMyFiles v5 and recovered the files that I lost.
Now to go ROM shopping and start again. This time I will listen to my own warning and keep a copy online.

Redpoint, do you think there is any chance that the sd card is not corrupted? Because, I have 10 gigs available on the phone now, so I think the card is working. Maybe I don't understand the terminology used here... What exactly do u mean by corrupted? Thanks
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Essentially, it's not corrupt but if you try to recover the data it will have been corrupted when you factory reset in bootloader so the data will not be usable.

Basically, the data is still there, but the system can't find it because the "roadmap" if you will, has been erased. It's like trying to find a specific apartment in New York City with no map and no addresses marked on the buildings. The only way to do it is to visit every single address in town.
You've got an added problem here because this lost storage is located in an unformatted partition on an external device, which may mean your PC simply isn't going to see it without some sort of specialized software. To stretch the metaphor further, it's trying to visit every address in a town you don't know exists.
I think that recovering your data should be possible with the right recovery program, but its likely to be more trouble than it's worth, and it's certain that many of the files you recover still won't be usable anyway.
Thanks, my problem is, I think, that I cannot take the card out and put it in some kind of reader. My knowledge in regards ends here. If the pc still wouldn't see it, I don't know how would I solve the prob.
It just seems incredible nothing can be done to access this card for the recovery purposes, when it is accessed right now through the pc with no problem for storage purposes.
Any further advice will be highly appreciated.

4.1 doesn't use the generic mass storage device driver. You can try mounting it through recovery, I believe that DOES use the generic mass storage device driver but I am not certain it will work. As stated previously, there's a very good chance whatever files you recover will not be working files anyway.

Any clues how to get past the adb error nor device found when trying to launch recovery? Thanks
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
You don't need adb to access recovery but if adb access is enabled on your phone, it should work. Do you have HTC sync running?
Sent from my One X using xda app-developers app
I tried with sync running and without. Cannot go to recovery from bootloader nor through pc, it says no device founf error

-Try disconnecting everything, and powering off and restarting both phone and PC.
-Try using a different cable and USB port.
This seems to happen to a lot of people, and these often fix it.

Try a Data-Recovery Program
There are Free Data Recovery programs in the World but the best one is:
IsoBuster by Peter van Hoove
---------- Post added at 09:18 ---------- Previous post was at 09:15 ----------
Surely, yes, your PC needs Administrator rights and the SD-Card isn't a big Problem because the PC has full access to the file System (Mass Storage)
Newer Smartphones only offer MTP. You can't access the Filesystem so with MTP data recovery isn't possible.
...but only if the SD-Card is inserted in the Smartphone to the PC.
Use your PC's SD-Card Slot or Adapter.
...data Recovery from Internal Storages on Unrooted devices with locked bootloader is very hard and a big problem - even isoBuster is powerless then.

Hi.
I'm having trouble with my android system.
I have a microSD with 2 partitions, first one is classic FAT32, second one is ext4 (mainly used for link2sd and other stuff). I would like to write a file that is more tha 4Gb (so over the 4Gb limit of FAT32) on that second partition, if possible by 2 means. Of course my phone is rooted. So here are my questions:
- Is it possible to see the second partition from windows when USB cable is plugged (maybe with a software? or via linux?) and then transfer the file.
- Is it possible to write to that partition directly from an app ? I was looking for some way to create a symlink in first partition to second, but it seems impossible on android systems.
- Is it possible to format the first partition to ext4, and still be able to use it as normal (windows file transfer, app reading/writing, etc...)?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Rox.

No support from zeki. They said sorry can't help. And past any warranty to return.
Zeki tablet TBQG884B kitkat 4.4.2
I tried a swap ram thing to try increase memory size/speed.
dev_mount sd card change
I didn't quite know what I was doing. Didn't make a backup, etc.
I rooted tablet with kingoroot it's still on it. So is superuser but it asks to download binary files again, but can't because no sd card mounted. Internal or external.
It won't connect to computer usb debuging or mass storage at all.
I can no longer get into system files file explorer etc., to try to reverse/fix what I did.
It said nand flash something instead of sd in video. I now know I shouldn't of edited it.
Is there any way I fix it. Maybe put a different OS on it? If that would fix it? Maybe something from google/android and kitkat?
It works as far as going online with brower. But not much more. won't mount either sd.
I looked everywhere and trying everything. Please help. Thanks.
It said in video to go into sysytem files and change ...

Hi.
I mistakenly flashed my Android Galaxy On5 (using Odin's "AP" option) with one of the Exynos files. I saw something about "userdata" and knew immediately I had made a mistake, even though I did not load anything in the Odin "userdata" option. Why I did this probably isn't relevant, but I'm happy to provide more detail.
My question, however, is a simple one: Having done this, is it still possible to recover the user data that is no longer visible on the phone? When I reboot the phone without TWRP, it looks like it has been factory reset.
The phone is rooted, and I can see the device shares with "df". I can't see any secondary SD card based on the information I found about it sitting on top of where the SIM card is installed. I have done plenty of computer data recoveries from hard disk.. But every tool I have downloaded online for the Android seems to be polluted with malware, and I even reimaged my desktop because of all the crap I've tried.
Do you have a recommended tool for this that isn't some horrible marketing ploy? Minitool, Dr.Fone, FonePaw, and Kingoroot were all unsuccessful.
Also, if the data resides on an internal SD card, how is it formatted? I assume it is not a typical EXT or NTFS file system. Can you tell me which device I should be trying to recover from? It looks like /dev/block/mmcblk0p21.
If the internal storage is inaccessible, another thought I had was to do a block copy (with dd) onto a separate SD card, but I am unsure of whether this would provide a copy of the overwritten data, or would it actually reduce my chances of recovery.
The phone is a Samsung Galaxy On5 (SM-G550T).
Much of the data is non-critical, but some of it is unfortunately irreplaceable. Again, I'm really looking for a "yes" or "no" here, either data recovery is possible or not. And of course any suggestions on how to do it are greatly appreciated. The time it took to flash was almost instantaneous, but I also realize that flash drives are different from spinning drives in terms of how data is written and stored.
Thank you.

If you haven't any advice on how to do it, just a simple "yes" or "no" as to whether a recovery is possible would be greatly appreciated. There must be a few forum readers out there who know the answer to that question. Anyone? Bueller?

If you wiped out userdata, that means all your data is gone. I know for computers, deleting data doesn't necessary delete the data, but rather makes the space unallocated, meaning new data can be written over it. Not 100% sure if they have something similar for Android. If you have google synced with your account, you can recover most of your data that way, otherwise you might be out of luck.
