True USB 3.1 dock? - Google Pixel XL Accessories

Does any know of one? The only docks I can find are just USB 2.0 out the back of the dock.
Thanks!

If you don't mind spending $$ for a high end dock, this one is adaptable to any type of connection small enough to fit, including USB C:

The reviews of that dock are spotty to say the least.
Man here is for the wish that Google makes their own.

I want a dock that does charging, syncing and audio out! =)

I'm not sure about that one. The reviews seem to indicate that there is fast charging. But the reviews seem kinda sketchy... like they received the dock to write up reviews.

You know, the car dock cable is interchangeable.
I'm not 100% sure the desk dock is, now that I think about it.
I only bought the car dock and assumed the desk dock was similar in style.

I didn't know about the car dock! I watched the video for the desk dock. You have to install the cable when you get it so I'm 100% it is interchangeable!

Awesome, good news.
I've replaced the cable in my car dock several times.
One time I had a cable with a huge connector on it.
So I shaved the plastic off the sides of the connector until it fit in the car dock.
Worked great.
I still need to order a USB C cable for my car dock and research what type of 12V to 5V adapter I need to buy that will work for 3.0 quick charging.
I'm guessing my 3A adapter will be fine but I need to verify.
I like to hard wire my charging behind the dash rather than use a cig adapter for charging.
---------- Post added at 03:49 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:41 PM ----------
I've got car and desk docks that are useless now because they have USB 1 or 2.
The $70 I spent on the Craigsdock several years ago has more than paid itself back due to the future proofing.
Its adjustability even worked with the stupid Note phone's offset USB port location. :good:

What about this one? Looks perfect, right? https://amzn.com/B01DT1D7CY

I have a ten footer in my vehicle that I use as a charger/data for my H/U. From time to time I will notice mp3's sound weird. If I switch to bluetooth they sound fine. SO yeah the longer the cable the more chance for goof ups. Rule of thumb the shortest distance in anything dealing with electric cables is better.
Just an opinion, but when I bricked mine I tried 3 stock cables at home to get into download mode and none recognized, but the blackberry "FireWire" (notice thickness vs the stock android one) was the only thing that worked.. and it is a tighter fit

Question about switching from iPhone

After a long year with my iPhone, I am finally due for an upgrade and I want the S3. I have always been an Android user, but decided to see what iOS was all about. I wasn't impressed even a little bit, so I bought a Transformer Prime to get my Android fix until I was due for an upgrade. The ONLY thing I like about the iPhone, is the connectivity in all my vehicles. They all have iPod connections , which makes life much easier for charging and playing music in the car through one cable. Has anyone found a solution for playing music and charging in a car with the S3 and vehicles equipped with iPod connections? Are there any adapters to get the S3 to work with an iPod adapter?
I'm assuming you dont have Bluetooth connectivity on your stereo.

Unfortunately, no. There are some Bluetooth adapters available that plug into the 30 pin iPod connector. I'm wondering if that would work, or maybe they just work on docks?
No, there are no adapters, i makes sure of that. I hate that company!
This is one of those things in life that just doesn't make sense. Why all these manufacturers cater to i is beyond me, android outsells i 4 to 1. Try to find an android dock at your local electronics supplier, you may find 1 out of 20 i docks.

As far as battery goes, I would just embrace the fact that you will now have a removable battery and extra batteries are cheap as hell.
So then if you have an aux cable you'd be golden. I believe there are also bluetooth to Aux connectors that work really well, but I do not think I've heard of a iPhone (proprietary POS) adapter.

Does it have a tape player?
Is the radio in your vehicle stock or aftermarket? On some radios, mainly aftermarket but there are a few stock, there are unused input ports on the back and all you would have to dowas find the corresponding cord plug it in the back of your radio and run to how and where you wanted it. On my radio, aftermarket, it actually has a USB type A female end so I plug whatever I want into it and it charges the phone while playing my music, although the easiest way to access the music is to enable UMS so you can go through the files until you find the one you want. Yours may not have this but there.are always ways around it, for instance if the iPhone cable is attached to the radio on the back side it could be as easy as unplugging it and plugging a micro USB in or it could be a little tougher meaning you would have to take the metal guard off of the radio and find out where the iPhone cable ran. If it runs to the radios motherboard and is soldered directly on then you could take a few pics so you will remember the correct wire placement, desolder the wires which should be fairly easy, strip the full size USB end off or your micro USB cable separate the wires and if the colors matched up to the iPhone wire colors solder in place and have fun, if the colors don't match then you would have to test and find out which wire is what and then solder then accordingly. If you decided to go the soldering route then the best thing to do would be to get a USB cable with a full size type A female port strip the opposite end off, attach, and then plug your S3 cable into the female end. That way you could plug whatever you wanted into it instead of just having a micro USB end.
If you've never soldered before but want to try to change the cables out practice for 2 or 3 weeks or until you know exactly what you're doing. Don't start on the radio right away or you will burn it up. Alternatively you could just buy an aftermarket radio like mine, Kenwood DNX-6990HD, and install it yourself or pay someone 100-200 dollars to install it.

S4 DockMode works on iBOLT xProDock...

Hello everyone, with this post we can confirm that the Galaxy S4's vehicle "DockMode" works perfect with the xProDock. See image where it was checked today against AT&T's and Sprint's version. Friends from Europe have also confirmed it works fine with the International version.
Driving using the "DockMode" combined with a Bluetooth for hands-free is great as it turns your S4 into a virtual driving assistant and entertainment center, all while you stay away from texting while driving. Keeping the phone above the dashboard obviously also increases both cell phone and GPS reception. Stepping out of the car with a charged phone is another nice benefit with using a charging dock.
Connect the S4 into the xPro and go to "Settings-Accessory" and select "Dock Sound", "Audio out" and "Deskhome display" and then download your favorite "docking app". We've found our own "Dock'n Drive", "CarHome Ultra", "Ulysse Speedometer", "TuneIn" and "Slacker Radio" to be the S4 "Dock home" alternatives. We recommend using one of the first three and then have "shortcuts" to your favorite apps.
The aux-out sound to car-stereo through the microUSB cable also works great on the S4. This means the car-dock only needs ONE cable connected and yet at the other end it splits into a USB male connection and 3.5 mm aux-out that you connect into the vehicle's car-stereo (not needed if you have Bluetooth A2DP support). Keep in mind that Samsung's firmware only allows for "App sound" to be transmitted to the car-speakers through the microUSB, NOT phone calls so you must still use a Bluetooth solution for in-and outgoing calls.
Camera view is also free so you can use the S4 as an excellent "dash cam" with one of the many apps available for capturing video using a "loop". All cases are compatible, even Otterbox Defender or Ballistic Maxx type.
We have also started to ship our new "Stick Anywhere" mount with this which means you can attach it directly to the dashboard's hard surface without using the "disc" used for many years with car-docks. If you don't like the suction Mount concept there's an AMPS plate option which allows you to mount the xPro on a KUDA or ProClip mount for example.
You can order the xProDock for Galaxy S4 on Amazon in the US and Europe. Just type in "xProDock" on eBay and we should have it listed there too in most countries.
Feel free to ask questions or use this thread to discuss any product in the category... We'll comment if warranted. Thanks!

The Infuse Dock can't be used with the Galaxy S4 no matter what. This has to do with the fact that Samsung has changed the pin-out configuration when moving to the "new platform" so there's no technical way (to the best of our knowledge) to get it to charge or to start the car-mode. Not sure if this helps?

I'll be the first to say that this universal dock has convinced someone who has never even considered a universal dock, this is definitely the one to buy if you need a mount for the S4 while driving.... and who doesn't? Samsung realy dropped the ball on this - all these great features to "make life better with your life companion," and they rip out the ability to dock the damn phone on their own dock? This and the TecTiles? Come on, makes me go crazy over here, but I digress - thanks Mikael, much appreciated, great work!

Very interesting indeed...
I have a question.. There is a long cable that is attached to the dock and end with the car-charger right? So is that a standard USB port so I can use my own charger or does it come with a car charger itself?
Now the issue with many standard USB car chargers is that they don't charge the phone fast enough. With the GPS on, it actually drains the battery slowly. I am going to get an official Samsung car charger soon.. but will I be able to use with with the xProDock?

It does not come with a charging solution, they leave that part up to you, thankfully.... If it were attached to a cheap 1A cigarette lighter adapter, I wouldn't want anything to do with it, but since I can connect this to my 2.1A adapter I already bought and used for months on my SIII, I'm certainly happy with that!

How is the USB connector? Can you get the S4 in and out of the dock and connect the USB with one hand easily?
The USB cord is very stable. It is flexible, but not loose. Similar to the feeling of a goose neck stand. It will stay in the bent shape and position you leave it in. The mount is extremely easy to use, and works with any case. The GS4 goes right into dock mode as soon as it sees the usb plug even if its not connected to power. The cord has a built in plug for the audio as well. The cord has the appearance of being permanently part of the mount, but there is a cover on the back that hides the removable plug. The windshield mount is first rate and did not budge until released.
On a related note....while plugged in, I saw NO battery drain as I had on the Infuse while using map apps, Escort Live radar app, or anything else. The unit continued to charge during all of the above. This in itself is a huge improvement over the previous phone/power combos. I would always have horrible drain even when plugged in when using power hungry apps with BT, GPS, etc...

That has more to do with the charging adapter you're using than the cable itself - what adapter are you using, a 2A or a 1A?

Haha, very time consuming, but it's always worth it when recommending a good product and to give some insight that others may not know
Thanks!
Just wanted to post a helpful tip to anyone using this dock and wants to keep the screen on ONLY when docked, not all the time like the phone settings menu allows you to set "while charging." Always on while charging means that if my screen comes on for any reason while propped up on my desktop charger in the middle of the night, it's on the whole night! This just helps to utilize both Dock Mode that iBolt has figured out how to incorporate into their xProDock and the original Android Car Mode that we probably all know and love from the days of the Infuse 4G car dock!
Here's the link to the steps I used to get this working - it's a little hectic, but should only take about 2 to 5 minutes to set up, depending on what apps you may or may not have already installed

Is it the xProDock? They developed this new dock for Samsung specifically to address the issue that all the old ways wouldn't work on the S4. Their product page shows old docks and new docks with the old "In Vehicle Charging Dock" as separate products to identify this. It's an issue with Samsung changing things around and not something iBolt did in order to make you buy a new dock.... hell, Samsung even axed compatibility with their previous dock, making buying the xProDock the ONLY solution available to charge and send the vehicle into dock mode! I fought to get the Infuse 4G dock to work with the S4, but Samsung tinkered around with stuff so much, they caused me to have to buy the xProDock too....

Car Dock

Just picked it up and works great. Holds on nice and strong. When used with a 15watt charger it charges pretty fast. If you need a car mount this is the best one we can get.
Some basic info for those who want one.
No charger. You will need any car charger but 15w will be best.
No usb cable. just a usb type c
Can be used with android auto or just like normal.
Can be used on the go for for a 3.5mm jack. That is bulky. You can also remove the mount from the back and remove the release tabs and make it a bit more useful for that but its still bulky.
Did you mean to include a link or name of the car dock?

I have one of those docks that are magnetic whish is great because with this phone there is no need to add the magnet with the adhesive the phone just sticks straight on it. I love it! It's also a lot cheaper than buying the car dock.
so you have to plug it in for it to charge?

I had one to. But it did not clamp on the vent to well. This dock has a thumb scre so you will rip the vent out before it slides off. Also gives you a 15w charger "charger and cable required" as well as an aux out. Plut it up and android auto will instantly launch. Great dock well worth the $65
Got mine on Sunday, works great!
Can you control the next or previous song from the car steering wheel with it?
Kind regards

Over Bluetooth you can if your radio supports it.
On another note, anyone have a cheap recommendation for charging my phone in the car super fast? Also does this dock support data transfer or only power? I have an avh-x2700bs and being able to use the dock for appradio one would be super cool.

This one activates TurboPower https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01E..._SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=aukey+car+charger
As for controlling the car radio, I found about this smart cable with Android Open Accessory integration http://gromaudio.com/wirelinq/

What is so smart about that cable? Also do you know if this incipio dock supports data transfer via it's usb c port?
Should I order a USB-C to USB-C cord to go along with this charger? I currently have this and it's meh at best for charging but it does data transfer.

Because it has a built in chip that makes your car read the music player data just like having a USB stick inside (name, artist etc).
You need a Type C to Type C cable to activate TurboPower, the charger comes with one included.

That cable sounds cool! The charger you linked is only the adapter, do you have a suggested usb-c to usb-c cable?

The picture shows only the adaptor but it comes with a cable. Yes, C to C is the way to go
This has been my favorite moto mod so far! I have everything but the mophie pack and the projector. It's so nice to just get in my car, stick that right by the air vent next to my steering wheel, and I'm good to go. It's so smooth, really can't go wrong (unless your vehicle isn't so great with vent mounts.)
Does it work with a case on your phone?

FYI, the dock does not allow USB data pass-through. This means that the dock cannot be used with existing radio/vehicle Android Auto. It will only auto start device-only Android Auto.
I bought it to find out.

Third party usb c cables

Are there any thin usb type c cables that can be used with the phone and still be able to slide the phone like the provided cable?
I have a set of USB C cables from Anker which work with the slider, the ones from oneplus work aswell.
