How do I upgrade to Android 4.1 on Miro? - Sony Xperia Miro, Tipo (Dual), J, E

Hi!
I've got a Xperia Miro (ST23i) which has Android 4.0.4 official firmware, 11.0.A.5.5. I now want to upgrade it to 4.1, mainly because of an app which I use now demands 4.1.
The phone is rooted but bootloader is locked. When checking the bootloader if it can be unlocked it says "No".
So my question is, can I upgrade it? Is there any stable 4.1 that I can install even though bootloader is locked?
To clarify and add to my question a bit:
I know there are roms based on stock kernel which can be installed and I assume those would work on a phone with unocked bootloader. But would it show as a 4.1 phone and the app I mentioned would work or would it be just the same as with the stock 4.0.4?
Thanks

No, unfortunately you can't. You must unlock bootloader for that.

[Q] S-Off vs Unlock Bootloader

Hi all
Anyone know if we need the bootloader unlocked if we already have S-Off? I have flashed a few ROMs already and was wondering if I would need to go unlock my bootloader to gain more customization options. Can we change kernels and overclock with a locked bootloader?

Hi,
You don't need to unlock bootloader via HTCDEV if you already S-OFF.
If you are S Off, just flash firmware from the user friendly firmware thread.
You'll have an ENG Hboot that says Revolutionary instead of Locked.
So, I rooted and gained s-off but haven't unlocked my bootloader through the HTC site. It sounds like I don't need to do this and can do everything I could on my rooted device right?
correct me if im wrong and 10x 4 ur helps

Yes, an ENG Hboot is better than an Unlocked Hboot.
You can do all & more than a Unlocked Hboot can with an ENG Hboot.

If it's official, then your Hboot is locked.

[Q] Xperia L - help in flashing/updating

Hi I would like to ask for your help on working with my Xperial L. It is free phone from my network plan so when I checked the unlock bootloader is set to NO. that is my problem at the moment. Is it still possible to root, and port a kernel/custom rom even if the bootloader cannot be unlocked? I hope you could give me the proper steps so I can arrive at the same set up as yours.
Here are the details of my unit at the moment:
Model - Xperial L C2105
Android version - 4.1.2
Build number - 15.0.A.2.17
Bootloader unlock: not allowed
I haven't started anything yet as I'm unsure which to steps to follow, hope if there's someone who had the same details can help me to root and port a kernel/rom.
Many Thanks in Advance!

Yes you can root & also install ROM too without unlocking (Which is risky). Kernel needs UBL so you can never have kernel for your device(AFAIK). Try to get it unlocked from your vendor or ask him for a replacement for your phone and get a Unlock able phone.

what are my options then and what are the risks if I don't unlock my bootloader? I don't think my vendor would change it so I'll just have to live with it.. can you provide me a tutorial please with these limitations..I would be very grateful if you could help me. thanks again.. :good:
@rayleigh2010
Use the below link to root latest build it works (AFAIK).

Ah! Don't worry buddy
And is there any chance that it might be possible in the future?
Because this is the reason why I havent rooted yet...cause you can't lock it again...I mean to lock it without the information that it was already unlocked

Probably not, there is need of an exploit, but this last only for root, if you want also custom recovery you will must unlock bootloader. No chance to bring back bootloader value to initial state and never there will be.
ok thank you ...so I'll probably have to take the risk sooner or later

Flash an insecure kernel from the development section
look for advanced stock kernel....
If you have unlocked then it is SOOOOOOo easy to root....
EDIT
Say goodbye to your DRM keys though, if you unlock before rooting you will never see them again. You may want to look in the cross device development section to see the thread about restoring DRM functionality.

Should be, they're are others in the development section as well
Just make sure you read the requirements to make sure your phone and firmware are supported

Custom Roms That Don't Require Bootloader Unlock? (for Xperia L)

Hi Guys,
I'm new to this whole Android tech stuff, but recently I decided to try cyanogenmod on my Xperia L device. But the thing is that the Bootloader access is restricted by default, so I can't install it. Can you show me any Custom Roms that don't need the Bootloader to be unlocked? Or if there is a way to unlock the Bootloader, even if unlocking is not allowed on my phone?
Thank you in advance!
There is no way to install custom rom without unlocking bootloader.and yes our device(Xperia L) is unlockbale.
Find hear.

And stryflex is the best rom for our device.

Well, I checked out the tutorial, but it does mention that if bootloader unlock is restricted, then I can't do much. However, I might try to flash the rom what n78 shadow mentioned:

If your bootloader status is unlock not allowed, you can try the ROMs which are for locked bootloader otherwise you can unlock your bootloader can flash any rom
