Hey guys,
I go to the gym all the time, and something that starts to get really annoying is when I am working out, running, playing basketball, and having a 5.5" Oneplus One in my gym shorts that flails around like crazy and falls out of my pockets sometimes. Of course this is all while using headphones/earbuds listening to music. I've been considering maybe buying a 6th or 7th gen ipod nano used (touch screen). But i have also been thinking about just getting an android that is relatively SMALL and quality. It would be no problem putting a ROM on it and then i'm good to go. For example, I used to own an LG P769 about 3 years ago, it was a pretty fast and reliable phone and sells for only $49 bucks on ebay (used) and would be a perfect MP3 player but it is slightly a bit large at 4.5" but isn't too bad I would consider it as my last resort. My problem with getting an apple device is while it is quality (build wise), transferring music would be such a hassle through iTunes and the devices themselves do not have wifi while android do which make music transfer so much easier. The probem with an android would be that would have to charge it more often. I'm not willing to spend above $55 dollars or so, and I'm willing to buy something used of course. I really do not want to use an armband for my OPO... Like I said i want something quality that will last, not something like the $30 Sandisk MP3 player on amazon. If you have any opinions/advice on what phones/MP3 players to look into please list them. Thanks! :good:
Re: Perfect Option in your case
Look for HTC Explorer, Huawei Ascend Y320, Samsung Galaxy Star 2, Haier Pursuit G10, Lenovo A1000. New version of these mobiles cost between 70 to 80 dollars. For older version of these phones, you will get for 40 to 50$ range. If you want to get a new phone in the described price range, import phones from either China or India. They have decent new Android phones in 50 to 60 $ range.

Ok, so I was waiting for powerful stuff with Tegra that could have nice battery life, all that HD capability, TV out etc etc but it's still not coming. My old phone is pretty much dead, my mp3 player just died [yeah, Zune, so software failure, not hardware] and I need something to replace those 2.
I cannot justify spending almost $1000 for high-end phone when I know it won't last me few years. Technology is not there yet. So I need something fairly cheap. I live in Europe, so plans with phones are rather crap [I will save a lot when I buy phone-less plan + phone separately]. So I'm looking for something around $200-300 in european market, prices here are probably 20-50% over what's in US...
Anyway, my fast search gave me pretty much only Samsung i5700 and Samsung i7500, both at around $250. i7500 looks much better, with 8gb storage etc. Is there anything else that could be better for similar price? HTC Magic is $100 more and specs look weak...
I have a couple of phones, a Samsung S390G and a Kyocera Event, that I re-purposed. I use the Samsung as a music/video player when I'm on the bus and the Event serves as a WiFi phone.
Has anyone else re-purposed any androids lately? If so did you re-purpose a phone you already owned or do you know of a store or website where one can purchase an android that works well and isn't hot for a reasonable amount? I'm looking for a bigger screen model. Hopefully, after Xmas or New Years there will be good deals on 2014 contractless phones.
Yikes

I repurposed a Note 2 as a development device and media player/casual game device when I purchased my Note 3 this spring.
You can buy used phones from the internet/relatives/newspaper ads. If you are willing to spend a little more, you can buy refurbished phones from retailers.

Thanks for the info. I looked at the Note 2's prices on the web and I was like "Yikes"! I WANT to appear cheap because I am. Usually when I look for electronics I zero in on hardware that's unloved by the masses but loved by some hacker geek(s) who have turned a Chevette/Pinto of tech into a hot rod. That's were you get the most bang for the buck as the manufacturer is forced into a discount cascade on what they thought was a sure thing but turned out not to be "IT". I just haven't been able to find anything like that lately.
Just a thread to share leads to any deals/discounts on the Nexus Player. And personally, I prefer deals on the device brand new in the box, fully sealed and manufacturer warranty covered. (Used and such can always be found at a discount.)
For the moment, the best deal I know of. Is Amazon and BestBuy.com's $69.99 deal. For the band new in the box sealed, with full manufacturer warranty Nexus Player.
With the Apple TV at that same price, I figure the deal will stand for some time.
But I hope more deals for the Nexus Player come and we can share them all here .
After using the nexus player for the last month, I'm seriously considering replacing our aging Rokus with NP's - especially at this price point. The only thing that we would be missing is Amazon Prime, which we use very rarely. But we'd be picking up a better interface and we could also run Kodi on the same box. Wasn't there a deal not too long ago where they were selling for $70 plus a $20 google credit?

Instead of "replacing" the Rokus. Why not keep both? I've got several Rokus myself. I'm supplementing things with Nexus Players. The Roku is nice, but it can't touch the games on Nexus Player. Plus, Nexus Player seems to have a better future. I don't know if channels such as Haystack TV could ever be setup for Roku.
And on the other hand, Roku has many channels that Nexus Player does not yet have. As you mentioned, Amazon Prime, which I doubt Amazon will ever make work on Nexus Player. Since Amazon never supported Chromecast at all.
I like One America News Network, which is on Roku. They're looking to expand to Nexus Player though. But still, there's no expense involved in keeping the Rokus. So the best of both worlds can be enjoyed.
You can get the Nexus Player for $50, by paying for 3 months of Sling TV service up front ($49.50).
The Amazon.com price has dropped, to $66.34.
Walmart $67, bought today

Amazon.com price has crept up to $67.11.
Amazon now has it for $64.78 http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00S8U5A7W/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new
Maybe they will go as low as Chromecast prices[emoji1] . Hey, a man can dream... And it could happen by some means.
Hi, sorry if this has been posted before but I couldn't find anything useful.
I have this person who have a cerebral palsy wanting a new phone. He had a phone before (SG5) but that now broke because he dropped it so many times and he's stuck with 24 months contracts. Finally today his contract is due for upgrade but we're thinking of not renew/upgrade contract but wanting to buy the handset outright but to keep the sim card going.
Phone needs to be rugged/strong (like The DeWALT Phone? but it's 5" - bit of struggle to type).
Screen Size : If possible, big screen? So he can type/send text message. (i like this idea something like Xiaomi Mi MIX 6.4 inch)
Budget : happy to spend around £500 ish but willing to pay more if phone is worth the money spend but not too expensive obviously (i.e. over £1000)
Screen need to be strong (will consider applying screen protector as well) - Gorilla Glass?
Ample of covers available, to protect the phone itself and need to be available in the UK as well (amazon/mobilefun/etc..)
What he use the phone for? - Well, he like to play most games, especially pokemon go(!), want to start using video phone and texting to families/friends, so it's pretty much all round.
Also, one other thing, can you send text (sms) using tablet if it has SIM compatible on tablet? as it would be nice to have 7" Tablet as I have seen 1 or 2 floating online but unsure if it works with sms.
Please state weather the phone (or tablet) is available to buy now or on pre-order as we're looking to purchase ASAP.
Many thanks
Have a nice day

Oh, ok thanks
Hey guys,
So I'm thinking about getting a new mid range phone, and while I asked earlier on this subreddit about a Xiaomi phone, I got the feeling that most people would rather go after another phone as a budget phone. I have stumpled upoen the Huawei M10 Lite, Motorola G6 Play and even the Huawei P20 lite, but wonder if I should pick any of those, or even another phone as a mid range phone?
Now the story: I have an iPhone 6S, which is more or less dead. The antenna is garbage (even worse than my GF's, which also have an 6S, so my phone is somewhat damaged apparently), and the battery life is not what its used to be, and since I am done with expensive phones (which is why I go for a mid range Android), I was thinking about getting a new one. The Android market is a little more complext than the iPhone market, since theres usually 2-3 iPhone models that comes out every year, which make the choice easier, but the Android market is a jungle for someone who doesn't really know the market well. The reason I've chosen M10 Lite, G6 Play and Huawei p20 Lite as choices is because the budget doesnt break my bank, and even though they all have flaws, they seem like good phones for the price. I live in Denmark, where prices are somewhat high on the phones. Right now most of them are on sale, and the prices range like this:
Huawei M10 Lite : 266 USD (On Sale, normal price 313 USD) Moto G6 Play: 235 USD Huawei P20 Lite: 360 USD (On Sale, normal price (438)
What's important for me is a phone thats not sluggish, and has a decent camera. I know these mid range phones has pretty bad cameras, with some better than other. But none of them can match my iphone 6S in that regard.
Are any of these phones worth it, or is it worth digging up an old flagship from the previous years, and in which case, which one?
Hi! We have a dedicated thread for these types of questions, https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1620179
So I'll close this one. Good luck! :good:
