If AT&T every get around to updating to M, you then get the choice of whether to update or not.
At the moment, AT&T and giving you no choice and having to put up with s*itty battery life. :crying:

Speaking of mods does substratum work on the flex 2 5.1.1? I can install it, install themes, but no themes show up inc so called lollipop compatible ones. Is there something I'm missing?

So basically there is no hope for mm on h950 unless att release it or bootloader gets unlocked? Why can't other Flex2 model firmwares work?

The hardware is different on the H950. Its got 1GB more RAM for starters. There maybe differences with the radio and LTE bands due to it being an AT&T phone.

Good news folks, transcript from a live chat I had 2 minutes ago:
Lonnie: To get started, please provide me with your full name and mobile number.
Me: all i want to know is when does at&t lg flex 2 get marshmallow upgrade every other carrier in the world who sells flex 2 has marshmallow
Lonnie: I know how important it is to you that we resolve your issue today. Let’s work together to resolve it.
Lonnie: Unfortunately at tis time we have not announced a time or date.
Me: well can you find out for me if it is coming at all?
Lonnie: It will be before the end of the year.
Me: so you confirm model h950 at&t lg flex 2 will get marshmallow before 2017?
Lonnie: As of now its scheduled to be before end of year.
Me: ok thank you.
Lonnie: You are welcome
Hate to the bearer of bad news but I used to work for att in a call center. I initially did customer service, then tech support then chat. NO ONE in the call center knows anything about updates, new services or devices until that info is available to the general public. I'm not saying we won't have it by the end of the year but if we do whoever you chatted with had no way of knowing that for certain beforehand.

As for battery life on my 950, I have no issues, maybe you need a new battery? Maybe it's a placebo but I disabled mlt and I use the battery saver function and I noticed a significant increase in battery life

Ok Appleknight,
How do you disable MLT on a non rooted H950? I've tried all of the dialer codes to access the service menu but non seem to work for the H950. :crying:
When I also say bad battery, I'm comparing it to my previous LG G2 which has the same screen resolution (but a less efficient LCD,) and the same capacity battery. Under identical conditions, the GF2 would be dead when the G2 still has 30% in the bank.

Just got off live chat with AT&T concerning Marshmallow for H950 AT&T Flex 2
Steve: I am not seeing any dates on that just yet however i will be able to get a number for you to call and they will be able to let you know exactly when that will be.
me: ok
Steve: You can reach customer care at 800.331.0500. They are open Monday to Sunday from 7am to 10pm your local time.
I don't live in America so if anyone that reads this does maybe ring the number and possibly find out for us?

OK I'm starting this post for my buddy who has a sprint galaxy nexus we live in south Florida and spring took there towers off line today to do some service to there towers well when they put them back online they deactivated his service and when he called customer service he told them his phone was rooted and unlocked with a custom ROM and they told him that sprint probably seen that his phone was rooted and that is why they deactivated his device well he has it back on now and is getting no data what so ever

cant see that happening tbh, why would a phone network care about what you do to your device? Only the phone manufacturer would care about you invalidating your warranty if you were to book it in for repair.

Tell him to do a profile update. Settings -> About Phone -> Sprint updates -> Update Profile (if I remember correctly) and then Update PRL. Otherwise just call up Sprint and tell them he's not getting data and they should be able to refresh his profile from their end. Also, they can't do anything about you rooting your phone as it's yours. If he starts tethering like 50GB a month or something stupid like that, then yeah there's an issue. But I'm assume it's normal usage. Why he even bothered telling the lady his phone is rooted is beyond me...No offense, but that was pretty stupid.

Hey what's up guys? I'm the guy with the Sprint issues. It makes absolutely no sense to me at all why they would care about my device but the way she made it sound was that Sprint cannot restore my 3g data because my device was rooted. She told me that my best bet would be to flash back to stop and start over. She concluded with an offer to follow up with me after I flashed back to stock and she could rectify the data situation then. Call me crazy but I think I want the opinion of the guys who know what's going on and not the one of the chick reading off her computer screen. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Several things I have to say:
1. Do not EVER EVER EVER tell your phone company that you rooted your device because the things that run through their mind are:
a) ****! Now he can tether without paying!
b) We're not fixing your phone now because you voided the warranty.
I hope she didn't put notes on your account for b) because that can prevent you from getting your phone repaired in a Sprint store.
Also, it depends what software is on your phone. Have you tried going back to stock? Have you tried calling Sprint again and not mentioning that your phone is rooted?

I asked her if there were going to be notes on my account mentioning it being rooted and she said yes but she said she was putting another note stating that the phone was being returned to stock. So I don't know. I'm learning and the main thing I'm learning is that the more I try to learn about this ****, the worse it's getting. The thing I hate the most is that this is a way to break away from the communist machine that is Sprint but somehow they still have me by the balls.

Technician notes are different from account notes, so if you were to go into a store for a repair I'm sure they wouldn't see that. Try reactivating your phone. Call Sprint, tell them:
"I called a while ago because I was having issues with data. A rep told me to punch in a code in the dialer and he also gave me the MSL code for my phone, but I can't find where I wrote it down. Do you mind telling me how to re-do the Handsfree Activation?"
Follow the instructions and see if that works. If nothing comes up on the dialer when you punch in the code, your ROM doesn't have Handsfree-Activation included. Try going to a stock ROM or ROM that has the Sprint menus in it.

I'm gonna have to jump on this first thing in the morning. Thanks for the advice. I will post any results on this thread as they unfold.
I would go as far to say it would be illegal for the phone company to cut you off for tethering a device that you own. (There are apps such as FoxFi that bypass the 'tethering tax' mobile networks try to claim) However, as someone said previously if you are downloading heavily then I guess they could cut you off for that.
At T-Mobile, NO such policy of cutting you off exists and they rely solely on throttling and packet shaping.

Thing is, he barely knows what he's doing. He's rooted and ROM'd but that's it. He's new to this whole thing. I don't even think he was tethering; I was just using it as an example for why a phone company wouldn't want you rooting their devices. But yeah I agree, you can't get cut off for modifying your device like that unless it was doing something that it logically should not be able to do (like if you were using it as a 24/7 server to host a website or something crazy).

Hopefully they keep the trend going but if history is any indicator, Verizon being prompt was more of a fluke than a new way of doing things.
What phones was Verizon last to get updates? People have been saying this before VZW even started getting the same phones as other carriers. It's like comparing oranges to apples. VZW has only had exclusive phones like the droid line and the incredible /rezound before the S3..For the S3, note 2, S4, ALL carriers INCLUDING VZW had them and I had updates same time as anyone else.
Can someone elaborate on what phones Verizon took months to update?

In my personal experience, the DroidX, Galaxy Nexus and Motorola Maxx. Google would release a version, the manufacturer would have to apply their changes and then Verizon had final approval. Not only does the handset manufacturer have to update for their kernel, UI (Sense, Blur (back in the day), etc.) but they would then put VZW's crap in there as well. 6 months was typical.

Those are VZW exclusive phones. We don't know if it was the manufacturer's fault or Verizon. It could've been Motorola's and Samsung's fault for the delay. That's why I said you can't compare exclusive phones.
I'm pretty sure a manufacturer would work harder and faster to update a phone that carriers across the globe have versus a phone that only one carrier in the world has. Example: Motorola X vs Maxx

GNex was by no means VZW exclusive.Sprint had an LTE version and GSM models were available in the Play Store.
But your point is valid - the bulk of the delay is with the manufacturer putting their crap on top of Android. Verizon has nothing to do in this process but approve - they're accepting delivery of the product when the manufacturer is done with it. That can still take a bit - I participated in several soak tests with Motorola where they are done with the update and they're testing the delivery. In a few cases there was a 2 week gap from the time of the completion of the soak test to the time it was released and that's Verizon, at least according to the Motorola employees in their forums.

Are we still talking the m8? I've had my m8 since day 1 and the first update we got was AFTER a few other carriers already got EPSM. And I was stoked we would have it. The issue is AT&T says we will buy it if you lock it to us so we can keep our customers and make it more of a chore to leave our company. Samsung says ok because we want the sales and that's why it's done... Samsung can care less once they sell you the phone what you do with it and they already built ways to know what you did to the phone for warranty returns. (So they can deny the claims that are caused by you not listening.)
If you want to get mad at anyone get mad at AT&T just like verizon they play every trick in the book.
That's why if you buy a phone full price you always go international version

The issue is AT&T says we will buy it if you lock it to us so we can keep our customers and make it more of a chore to leave our company. Samsung says ok because we want the sales and that's why it's done... Samsung can care less once they sell you the phone what you do with it and they already built ways to know what you did to the phone for warranty returns. (So they can deny the claims that are caused by you not listening.)

I have heard of that happening from people that buy online but I don't know much about them I believe someone in one of the threads (that was an at&t or samsung source) said they were at&t branded internationals (meaning they were to be sold through at&t for corporate or maybe coverage outside the US?, though I don't know much more because I only stay up to date on the US versions
If you just bought it you might want to check your buying source (example amazon will give you a new phone if you buy the international that's meant to be used with several carriers), if you have owned it for awhile then you're in the same boat as the rest of us.
I don't think the bootloader will ever be unlocked unless..
A law requires them too...
Someone finally finds a exploit (which because less likely as more people switch to newer phones)
They have a security leak like Sony where the key is discovered.

Or at the very least stop the store worker from updating it when you first activate it. When I bought mine she took it out of the box, turned it on and immediately accepted the update notification and installed it after it downloaded when she put the screen protector on..
@Apoplectic1
You should have made her give you different one. I do not and will not allow a store clerk to setup or mess with a phone I'm buying. :good:

I would have had I known that AT&T locked their bootloaders. This is the first phone that I have owned that had one, and until I tried to mess around with it I had no idea that one could lock a bootloader.
Sadly, I won't be able to get the Lollipop update unless I want my phone locked down forever because I am one of the few people that is still on the MDL firmware which can use the LOKI bootloader bypass to boot custom ROMs.
This phone has the specs of an absolute beast and is really cheap, I want to buy it but have seen many different views on the overheating issue, I would like to know if it has indeed been fixed or if its a real problem? Thanks
It was fixed, but was heavily exaggerated. I have a pic of a SD800 at 90C+ I keep for giggles, now that's hot. Actually my N9 nearly burned me when I picked it up a few months and the screen had a strange burn mark...
Anyway, 5.1.1 improved the temperature but don't expect it to remain cool even with intensive tasks.

I only updated to 5.1.1 (11Z > 11X), but I suggest rooting afterwards because there's way too much bloat and stuff no one should be forced to keep. I do use screen filter otherwise the screen might blind me at night. It has the same (min) brightness issue as the Zenfone 2.
Once 11Z root is available I'm changing the CPU gov to conservative or ondemand because interactive is too lenient with scaling.

Alright, Thanks, I would like to see what happens to this phone by the time I get it!

You should be weary of the 5.1.1 PR file, it seems to be breaking LTE and calling for users. If you stick with ATT updates you should be fine. I noticed 11x ran hot for me, then 11Z fixed that.

11x/11z are Att firmware with lots of bloat, I don't know if AUS carriers are the same or worse in that respect.

Ohh, ok, ill have too look into it further once I get it, hopefully within 3 months boot-loader will be unlocked
bah, I hope you're wrong that 11z fixed the cpu issues... I'm stuck on 11x rooted for the foreseeable future I tried to update to 11z, it never came through, so I gave up and rooted 11x. oh well.

11x was buggy for me. My phone kept getting very warm and the battery drain seemed worse than the 5.0.1 update.
I was able to get the update by calling ATT with the $2 day plan. First I called the previous day to get 11x pushed, then the following day I called for 11Z. You have to speak with someone from the tech department to have it sent out.

I think you can unroot with this tool.

How were you able to get the update pushed? Who do you call and what do you ask for?

1. 611 from att number
2. Press 4
3. Say tech support, then follow prompts
4. When connected to go phone rep explain you need help with a software update but tell them it's a command that can only be from their tech department. They'll eventually transfer you
5. Tell tech person that you need the OTA for an LG G Flex2 H950. And explain that your phone is on a version that's a few versions behind.
6. If the rep knows what to do an OTA prompt shows on screen for your device

just make sure ur on 5.1.1 , root , debloat , greenefy , amplify and put in a copper shim .
no heat , great performance and battery . coming home with 55% every night .
I saw on the T-Mobile website that this week we will be getting the August and September Security updates plus LTE-A support to get is 194mbps downloads and uploads with a maximum of 400mbps on the network possible. SO we will be getting an update with faster network speeds. Also there will also be a new gallery app and also the cloud support thing. I do think that they patched the root from what I have been hearing. I do also know that we are getting the update by the end of this week. YAH.
Link?
Article I saw said "later this month"... (Which technically fits with your end of the week timeline ?)

Whelp. This explains the lack of security updates as of late from T-Mobile/Samsung. The big magenta is cooking some extra spice into the goods! I can forgive them, now knowing this!

OK, that's the same article I read ... it says "Customers with the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge will be able to use this new technology with a software update later this month".
Hoping you're right and it happens this week as sooner is always better But at least knowing something is coming shortly is awesome IMO!
I just got a notification saying that there was a security update but I'm on echoe rom and wasn't able to try and update

I tried via my phone and via SamFirm and no update yet.
So we're getting 2 software updates one this month and another next month. The article also says "Customers with the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge will be able to use this new technology with a software update in October, with more phones on the way." For the 256 QAM and 64 QAM.
I'd the update don't hit your area why even bother. Denver needs it more than any other state why? Well in you live here you would have noticed the influx of people ever since 2012 when weed was made legal. Such ****ty speeds I had to remove my unlimited option because I was never getting more than 4gb at a time thanks to the horrible signal

Too bad T-Mobile isn't bringing 4x4 to the entire state of Connecticut, because **** us I guess.
Just push the damn security update. I can't wait until the U firmware goes to v3 so I can be free of this carrier firmware.
Havent got nothing yet....

CT often gets hung up on tower mods. They have to be approved through the state government to meet tourism and environmental standards.
I wouldn't hold my breath just yet for an update. We still have many days before end of month.
We're nearly at the end of the month and no updates reported from anybody?

In order to get the higher speeds, would only the modem need to be updated? If so, rooted phone users could just flash the modem and not need to be impacted by the "security" updates.
