If you have High accuracy location enabled and your current location is the same as a location you've added manually, the weather app deletes the one you added manually. Then if you turn off GPS the weather app fails to update, says you need to enable location services. The manual location doesn't come back and you can't add it unless you remove the 'current location' in weather, it says city already added.
If you just add a location manually and don't turn on High accuracy location/GPS it works all the time as it's refreshing the city you chose instead of searching for your location.
If the weather app detects location services is disabled then it should refresh the last known location.

Hi, my problem is that every time i turn the screen off the gps goes on. If i lock the screen and turn it on after five seconds the gps icon is active on the status bar.
At first I thought it was some misbehaving app, but now I've frozen almost all apps using the permission ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION, but the problem is still there.
The application using the gps appears to be google maps, is this behavior normal? I don't have latitude activated, autosync is off.
I keep gps on because I have seekdroid installed and on gingerbread apps can't self-enable gps
You don't per chance have Tasker installed or some other location based widget on your home screens do you?
If you do have a location widget working (Like Lattitude or Loopt) there is probably a setting to check to tell it not to automatically turn on location.
I want to change the home screen clock widget of Sense to show the weather of my 'home city' and not the current location. Part of the reason is that as I understand the feature of tracing current location using Wifi or GPS sucks a lot of battery which I would like to avoid. However when I un-check the 'use wifi' under location settings, the home screen widget does not show any weather, not even of the default home location.
Can you please help.
First off go into the weather app & make sure you have your city added, even if it's there for current location.
Now delete the clock/weather widget & go to readd it. You'll be asked to choose a city & just select your city instead of current location.
I was using the S4 mini ( Android 4.2.2) before I switched to S6 (Android 5.0.2).
On the old device the stock weather widget can detect my location without GPS on. I suppose it uses data from ISP via mobile radio or wifi.
However it is not the same for S6. The stock weather widget required "Location" to be turned on in order to detect my location. When I enabled "Location", the GPS was automatically turned on. I then set the "Locating method" to "Wifi and mobile networks". I thought I could disable GPS whilst still being able to detect my location. Sadly turning off GPS would also disable "Location" and the detection failed.
Is there a way for the S6 widget to act in a way as my old device?
I now understand what has happened. The quick setting button after dragging down the notification bar is a "Location" button and not a "GPS" button. This is extremely inconvenient and causing confusion !!
On 4.2.2 I can select coarse location detection via mobile and wifi and if I need more precise detection I just toggle the GPS button.
On 5.0.2 I have to re-enter the "location" setting menu and re-select "location detection" option to deploy GPS.
Why is the Lollipop so user unfriendly? I lost not only the quick launch buttons on the lockscreen but also a GPS button, sigh.

It's actually an attempt to make it more user friendly. The majority of people using these phones become easily confused when given more options. At least that's what Google and Samsung seem to think...
If you're rooted, you can use a combination of the apps Tasker and Secure Settings to have the phone toggle between "mobile & wifi only" and "mobile & wifi & GPS" as needed.
If you're not rooted, there isn't really anything that can be done about it.
Hi,
I've developed a app Auto silent mode by location + Flash .
It not requires root.
This is app free version: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.embarcadero.autoring
Paid version on Google Play (without displaying banners): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.embarcadero.autoring_no_banner
Keep their mobile phones on silent mode for specific geographical locations. There are flashes flashing for incoming calls.
This is an Android application, offers solution to those who wish to keep their mobile phones on silent mode for specific geographical locations.
You simply need to provide the desired conditions geographical locations when you would like to keep your mobile silent. The application determines the location of the mobile by the presence of nearby Wi-Fi, not using a GPS network. This prevents battery discharge.
• Location Based Conditions
You can select multiple locations where you want to set your mobile to go silent and can also enable or disable the locations anytime.
Other Features:
• Multiple GEO location support
• Add your desired location by pressing the 'Set setting incoming calls in the current WiFi zone' button
• Option to change & save a location
Value to Users
This Android application will enable you to save different locations and instruct their device to remain silent on those predefined conditions. You don’t need to remember these conditions anymore when you’d like to put your mobile in silent mode, this’ll be done by the device.

Is it possible to find the activity Google Maps uses to turn on "Google Location Accuracy" so I can make a shortcut to it to turn it off when Google Maps turns it on?
For privacy reasons I generally keep "Location" off on Android but every once in a while I need to use a map program, where Google Maps acts completely differently than all other programs that I know of which require "Location" to be turned on.
In the case of most programs which require Location to be turned on, most will send you to the Settings activity:
GooglePlayServices : com.google.android.location.settings.GoogleLocationSettingsActivityWhich, on my Android 11, is found at
Settings > Location = on/off
Where you can then toggle "Location" on WITHOUT having to also toggle "Google Location Accuracy" on.
This is an important distinction because Google Maps apparently goes DEEPER than that when you press the "OK" button when you open Google Maps with "Location" turned off.
When you start Google Maps with "Location" turned off, Google Maps presents you with the binary request:
"To continue, turn on device location, which uses Google's location service."But pressing "OK" does NOT just turn on "Location".
When you press "OK" what Google Maps does is two things!
Google Maps (openly) turns on "Location"
Google Maps (secretly) turns on "Google Location Accuracy"
If you manually dig into your settings you can subsequently turn "Google Location Accuracy" off
Settings > Location > Location services > Google Location Accuracy = on/off
Given that Google Maps works perfectly well with just GPS's 6-meter accuracy while driving on open roads.
And, since you have to REPEAT that step of turning off Google Location Accuracy that you never wanted, you can create a shortcut to help you do that (which I already did).
However....
My question is how can I find the activity that Google used to toggle "Google Location Accuracy" on?
Note that when I run a variety of shortcut makers on Android, all of them (so far) stop at:
GooglePlayServices : com.google.android.location.settings.GoogleLocationSettingsActivityWhich is one level too high (actually two levels as Google literally sets the toggle too!)
My question is whether it's even possible to find the activity that Google uses which not only turns on "Location" when you press "OK" to Google Maps' request for location, but which ALSO toggles on "Google Location Accuracy?"
In short, what is the activity called that toggles "Google Location Accuracy" on?
(How can I find out the name of that activity?)
Nobody?
