TWRP on huawei mate 8 (NXT-L29C185B190) dual sim 64gb - Mate 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone found a working solution for installing TWRP for mate 8 dual sim 64gb version.? Everytime i flash twrp using adb commands the phone boots into the original huawei recovery (eRecovery) and not TWRP. Bootloader is unlocked. My phone is on EMUI 4.1 I have even tried unlocking FRP using dc unlocker but this does not help. I need to install TWRP before i root the phone. ADB drivers and huawei drivers installed. Please help!

Greetings,
Thank you for using XDA Assist.
To best assist you with your issue, I'm going to move this thread to your device's Q&A section.
You'll find expert advice there.
Good luck!

Once you have unlocked your bootloader, boot into fastboot via volume-down+power+usb connect to PC then with all drivers installed, fastboot flash recovery TWRP.img

Yes I did thank you! Turns out on mate 8 u can only get to twrp by simultaneously pressing volume + and power buttons, then as soon as it starts booting (slight vibration) release both buttons. U must release quickly to get to twrp, otherwise it boots into erecovery (stock recovery).

Absolutely right

Still no root

Hello fellow huawei p8 max owners. I still haven't been able to root my P8 Max. My computer is running windows 10. Is there someone who can put the files here that are needed for a succes full root procedure? Thank you in advance.
I'm running B026........
Successful Root
I have achieved root on both of my P8 Max devices (DAV-703L) following this process posted by rowihel2012 (and thanks to dodzs for posting the root tools):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help/q-root-p8-max-t3152663/page3
1) Get your unlock code to unlock your bootloader (I am running Windows 10 and had no problem with adb commands after installing HiSuiteSetup_2.3.55.1.exe (http://consumer.huawei.com/en/support/products/downloads/p8max-en.htm)
2) Load TWRP (after completing "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" remember to remove your USB cable. Then hit the power+volume up. When you see the Huawei logo release the power button and continue to hold the volume up button until you see TWRP.
3) Load the UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46 file in the root of your sd card. Boot into TWRP using power+volume up method. Once in TWRP click Install and select the zip file and bingo...you have root.

then flash it with cmd type
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

It is!! Thank you so much! @rowihel2012
I have tried fastboot in Windows XP with my Huawei P8 MAX, without success...
I have tried
UniversalAdbDriverSetup6.msi
Huawei_Mobile_Driver_v1.0.zip
even the Huawei USB Driver 1.6.10.08
There is no problem with starting my Huawei in proper mode (with USB cable connected it have been started with Vol-up and power)
In control panel/devices I DON'T have question marks (?) devices now, after driver installation it all looks ok.
But the "fastboot devices" (minimal_adb_fastboot_v1.3_setup.zip) shows nothing
and "fastboot device" shows <wait for....>
Of couse I have the unlock number from https://emui.huawei.com/en/plugin.php?id=unlock&mod=detail
Which version of drivers from which site is ok for Huawei P8 max and Windows xp ?
Please help !!!

Is TWRP.img necessary to install SuperSu.zip. Can I use the in-built system.
Like, I go in recovery mode in my Gionee S6 pro and install update from SD card.
Will it work? Has anybody tried this way to root the phone.?

You must need any custom recovery to flash SuperSU.zip to root your android. SuperSU.zip can't flash in stock recovery.
If your android running atleast lollipop version then you can use magisk v14 to patch your boot image and flash through fastboot

Since, twrp.img cannot be flashed due to technological problem, the only method to root is try to make a hit on in-built one.
Are you pretty sure that in-built recovery will not work and twrp is necessary.
Or i can actually take a hit with this one.

Boot into recovery from fastboot?

Hello, I have an Honor 6x, with unlocked bootloader, and wanted to install TWRP so I booted into bootloader
and flashed twrp.img via fastboot, but now everytime I want to boot TWRP it just shows the message:
Your device has been unlocked and
can't be trusted.
To learn more, visit:
*some link I can't post cause I'm new here*
Your device is booting now...
and then it is stuck in this state...
could I eventually boot into TWRP directly from bootloader via fastboot?
Please help guys, thanks in advance. :fingers-crossed:
What version of EMUI are you on? If you're on the 7.0 beta there isn't a working twrp for it.

Hello. Replying here as I don't need a new thread for a very similar issue.
Brand new 6x with EMUI 4. Unlocked bootloader successfully. Using adb/fastboot tool I boot into bootloader, then flash my twrp img. For some reason this goes fine with no errors but takes less than two seconds (cause for concern?).
Now from this point is where I am having trouble. Regardless of what I do, the phone only boots into the EMUI recovery screen. I am aware of holding the volume up key on the first boot after flashing twrp so that it won't be overwritten. I have rebooted the phone manually and also through fastboot while holding the volume up button.
In a new city and only internet I have is thru my phone so this process is really slow due to all the restarts etc. Thanks in advance for the help!

Same problem here. I have a Honor 6x (BLN-L21) with Nougat on it (Build BLN-L21C432B360), unlocked it with the unlock pwd and tried to flash the TWRP (twrp-3.1.0-2-berlin.img) with 'fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.1.0-2-berlin.img'. After that I get always the same message after reboot or if I try to enter the recovery mode.
Any suggestions?
Thank you
Hi there,
I have found it. To get the TWRP Screen I had to press all 3 Buttons (Volume Up, Volume Down and Power) at startup.
Hope this helps.
Sadly this doesn't work here, on a BLN-L21C432B130 with EMUI 4.x and Android 6.x
3 Button start method brings up always the EMUI recovery screen.
Power Button + Volume up Button works fine here with all TWRP versions up to 3.1.0-0, but never on a newer one.
Additional hint: It works only if the USB cable isn't plug into the device and if the phone was powered down before. That must me the reason why I never get that up, if I'm rebootin using the command $ fastboot reboot cause for this the cable connection has to be used
@all who stuck in bootscreen...flash THIS TWRP...
[LG G4 H815] Just need to reboot into recovery directly...
I have kinda the same problem: I flashed TWRP and a friend of mine told me that I need to reboot into recovery directly after flashing TWRP because otherwise the system replaces TWRP again when I type "fastboot reboot". The problem is I cant shutdown the phone and also the key combination of the LG G4 is not rlly working, I tried it dozens of times on my other one... Is there ANY other way of booting to recovery from bootloader / fastboot? Thanks in advance!
P.S.: I read something about "boot twrp.img"... Is that an option or does it just also flash TWRP?

Hi there..
In fastboot mode, are you seeing "Phone unlocked".. if so then your phone has been unlocked successfully...
Also i dont think you can boot into TWRP by pressing a combination of Power and volume buttons.. You will have use the ADB commands to get in to TWRP. If you are able to boot normally into the phone.. Use ADB commands to boot to recovery.. that will help you install Magisk or SuperSu to root your device
ADB command is - adb reboot recovery.. this will allow you to get into TWRP (if it is installed without any problems)
Hope it helps!
Hi there?
Actually i have tried the command {fastboot reboot recovery} it goes on the screen where I'm stuck right now. Adn my is working as it do but I'm just not able to go to recovery. I don't know what to and we all know without recovery i can't get root and i really need Root.
Thanks Help if u can

[Resolved] Phone boots to fastboot Instead of recovery

Hey guys,
I wanted to flash a custom ROM on my Mi 9 SE, for this I installed TWRP (3.3.1-3) and Booted into it normaly. After wiping the phone I mistakenly restarted it and now the phone instaltly goes into fastboot mode without a chance to enter TWRP. I tryed to reflash TWRP but it did not work. I can't use adb as the phone only enters fastboot mode. is there another way to enter recovery mode? I also found the software MiFlash from Xiaomi but I only get the error "can not found file flash_all.bat"
Edit: Got it to work now, this is what I did:
Download MiFlash (from here: c[DOT]mi[DOT]com/thread-1329226-1-1.html [can't use links as new user ¯\_(ツ)_/¯])
flash stock ROM (from here: xiaomistockrom[DOT]com/xiaomi-mi-9-se [same])
it did not work with the stock ROM found on Xiaomis Website but only with the one linked.
