USB C data transfer speeds - Sony Xperia XZ Questions & Answers

Hello,
USB C is meant to be USB 3 speeds for data transfer etc ?
However just checking the official specs and its says USB 2.
Does this phone have improved transfer speeds over ordinary USB 2 or is it the same as.
EDIT: - Tested transfer speeds
Read speeds at 28/30Mbs
Write speed at 37.5Mbs
Many Thanks

As far as i know, the phone is only equipped with USB 2.0

Will Have to do speed tests later on.
Shame they've got a new port but not upgraded to USB 3/3.1 if so

Right so I can read via a USB 3 port to the phone via USB C at 30/28Mbs and write at 37Mbs

Seriously?
Sony always manage to whack in under par hardware for these 3: USB, sdcard reader and speakers.
Since the z1 actually.
However this being there must premium offering I'd have hoped they actually changed this and inserted premium hardware. Shame on all the counts.

Yeah I'm not pleased with it at all.

So after a year, I managed to grab a USB Type C to C (thunderbolt 3) cable and test with a board with thunderbolt 3 port.
The speed for transferring a 1.XGB .mkv file via MTP is still 30-40Mbs... as expected.
Interesting thing is that flashmode does not work, but fastboot and MTP mode still works with USB-C to C cable...
Flash mode does work with USB 3.1 Type A to C port/cable on the same board.
Anyone else also have see something like this? Or maybe its just cable/board issue.

[Q] USB 3.0 and Nexus 5 in Windows 7 not working ?

Is anyone having problems getting true usb 3 speeds when connecting their Nexus 5's to windows with the usb cable ?
Everytime I connect my nexus 5 to any of my usb 3 ports on my pc windows keeps saying this device can perform faster if connected to a usb 3 port when in fact it is ???
I've connected my corsair flash voyager usb 3 stick to eliminate and port or driver issues and the usb stick is working fine and usb 3 transfer speeds and I don't get nagged at by windows saying it can perform faster, so is there something wrong with the usb stack driver from this phone or android 4.4 ?

Your problem sounds rather odd....The Nexus 5 is not a usb 3.0 device to begin with...the only cell phone on the market with usb 3.0 is the Note 3

That's a good question, indeed it's micro usb port which is only usb 2.0 I've done a bit of digging and it seems the SOC of the nexus 5 supports usb 3.0 so google need to fix their firmware as to stop it reporting that the device can perform faster when connected to a pc.
This is usually caused by bad drivers on the PC, not the phone.
My phone works just fine when plugged into USB 3.0, no prompts, no issues. Note that this phone won't actually run at USB 3.0 speeds, but it will run just fine otherwise. Smartphones do not need USB 3.0 as none of them are even remotely fast enough to make use of it right now.

That's odd,all my other usb 3 devices are working just fine,it's only the nexus 5 that is saying that on plugging in, i agree it is bad drivers but not from my pc,it's the firmware on the nexus, if it's not a usb 3 device then the firmware shouldn't be sending out the wrong commands.

USB3.0 charges 1.5x faster than USB2.0 if i remember correctly
Same here! Reports usb3 in win7 and win8.1 pretty anoying
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
This would be a driver issue. And besides, the cable that comes with the device isn't USB 3.0 compatible.

it uses same usb charging mode as in usb2.0 port and not ac charging mode here on intel h77 usb3.0 chipset. i wish it could fast charging with 1a when plugged in at usb3.0 port, unfortunately it's not.

+1 on same environment here. Not all operating systems are currently reporting of the warning, but the (minor) issue is present.
So does mine.
On a fresh windows installation.

USB OTG keeps ejecting

Hello, anybody here with an Idol 3 that keeps ejecting flash drives plugged into the micro usb using a USB OTG cable? I have used 2 flash drives and 3 OTG cables and it still keeps on ejecting by itself. Thanks.
Are those flash drives within spec? If they draw more than 500 mA @ 5V, then they are NOT in spec and hence why the drives keep dropping out. Typically that means a USB 2.0 drive should be used. Or a OTG USB drive (I have one) since those have to be in spec otherwise their OTG usefulness goes out the window).
The same flash drives and otg cables worked with all my other phones so I don't think there's any problem with them. I ended up returning the phone since I was also having problems with crappy photos in low light. I have a zenfone 2 which is pretty comparable to this phone and the photos are better in low light plus no noticeable lag unlike with the idol 3. The only thing I really liked with the idol 3 were the stereo speakers which I'm missing right now.
I dont think this phones kernel supports otg. Says USB host diagnostics. BUELLER?
I tried otg also, in 9 of 10 cases, phone reject usb, in one case connections was achieved, and i can copy files from usb. But, even in that case, after some time, connection brakes. Annoying.
5.5 idol 3 android 5.0.2 .. I have used this phones OTG with flash drive, copy move paste all work and other usb devices also work.
My 5.5 idol 3 android 5.0.2 keeps ejecting USB disk CONFIRM

Split cable for charging and OTG

I am trying to charge my Nexus 6P while simultaneously casting a streaming video from a USB drive to a Chromecast using a USB keyboard and mouse (Basically a computer replacement scenario). I have purchased the Cynergy 3 Port Ethernet Hub USB C with USB C connector and everything works independently but I can not seem to get it to simultaneously charge and read the USB port data. When the hub is inserted into the Nexus 6P the phone asks me to choose between 5 USB scenarios (see attached picture). When I pick “Charging” the USB ports stop working and when I unplug the power supply and then plug it back in the phone defaults to “Power supply” and the phone does not charge but the USB ports work along with the items connected to them. So I wonder if simultaneous charging and data is possible with the USB C connector on the Nexus 6P? I have read elsewhere in this forum that it may not be allowed in the USB standard but can’t find any confirmation of this. Has anyone found a cable/hub that can do this or is this not possible due to the USB C connector limitation?
You might want to try something like this.

Why tell him to waste money on something that isn't going to work? The 6P doesn't support USB PD so this isn't possible.
i think you need to do some mad hacks in the kernel to get otg and charging at once (i think they did it on the oneplus 1 and possibly on the 2nd gen n7 so maybe google those for what it needs to be done?) i tried various resistors to the sense pin on the micro usb z4 which ended up not working but i have no idea how the usb c is wired up. Good luck with it anyway

One of my computers wont recognize Galaxy S8+

Does any one know a reason why a computer won't recognize a Galaxy S8+ when plugged in USB. To me its clear that drivers are messed up on the ZBook, but I don't know how to fix it.
I have two PCs, my wifes laptop and this HP ZBook x2 G4. All three of the other devices recognize the S8+, but the ZBook wont. I've gone into S8+ settings, turned on developer mode and turned on USB Debugging with no success. I've tried a USB C to USB C cable, as well as the USB 3.0 to USB C able that comes with the phone. Still nothing.

USB 3.0 has played much havok with S8 most recommend a 2.0 hub and seems to solve issues some of the time

First off, thank you for your feedback and your time.
Idk if thats the issue in this case. My other two PCs have no problem reading it via USB 3.0
But lets say the USB 3.0 havok IS the issue here. Does the USB 3.0 havok apply to USB-C to USB-C? My ZBook (the one having issues) has two USB-C ports. But even when my S8+ is connected to my ZBook via C to C I still have the problem. I figure if the "havok" is strictly related to USB 3.0 and it still doesn't work with C then maybe my problem is something different, unrelated to the USB 3.0 havok.
I REALLY want to connect my S8+ to my ZBook via USB-C to USB-C, so that I can use Sidesyc smoothly.
My guess would be the usb 3 driver on your laptop, perhaps try to find an updated usb3 driver.
The fact that your other two laptops see your S8 suggests that problem is with the laptop rather than S8+ or usb cable
Will look into it! Thank you!
Hi, Google a program called USBDeview.

USB c to HDMI video out

I just received this phone and overall I really like it. Except, I tried connecting the phone to a monitor using a USB c adapter. Does this phone not have a video out chip? It's actually a feature I like to use (coming from an LG v30). I'm just wondering if a workaround or anything is possible to connect to a TV or monitor through a cable.

i asked about the spec on moto's forum and they backed up what it says on the spec page its usb 2.0 over usb c so i think its limited to charging and slow file transfer
