Hey, I picked up this GSmart T4 and I've updated its firmware to the latest I could obtain from the manufacturers site [email protected]
The current android version is 4.2.2, which is quite limited for a lot of the new apps etc. and that's what I want to upgrade.
I've looked around for a ROM update but its just endless links to very dodgy looking sites so I'd really appreciate some expert advice on this!
Many thanks,
~R~

Greetings xda forum goers:
As the title suggest I have an Acer Iconia A500 that I purchased a few months back second hand. Well folks I really need your help and I'm at my wits end about this. To cut right to the chase my tab is running Android 3.1 Build Number Acer_A500_4.010.13_COM_GEN2 and I'd like to update it to something more recent 4.4 or 5 even would be great but I'd gladly settle for 4.0 even as well. I can't update through the tablet as some of you may be aware Acer no longer provides support for this otherwise awesome tablet and attempting to update yields the "Network Coverage is Poor" error. Is there a something I can download and run as a standalone update? Or do I have to root it? I'm a technician but am very much new to roots and not that familiar with tablets in general. Clear instructions and any help will be very much appreciated. Thank you so much!
Hi
Thanks for writing to us at XDA Assist. Everything you need to know about your device is in this section:
Acer Iconia A500
There are several ROMs available in the development section.

Hi,
I recently bought an Acer A1-840HD (not the FHD model). As the reviews stated, it does come pre-loaded with a lot of software you can't uninstall. I rooted the device using some instructions in the XDA forums and then uninstalled a bunch of that stuff.
I'd really like to install a clean build of Android 4.4.4 (which is what it ships with) and/or if possible Android Lollipop (maybe not since its still fairly new). While there are a couple of guides to root the device, I couldn't find much in the way of installing a clean OS of any version.
Thanks in advance for any links you can provide!!

Hello, and welcome to XDA! I cannot see any rom for your device here on XDA, but you could try to ask in the discussion forum dedicated to the Acer A1 840HD, here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/t/iconia-tab-8. You will need to register in order to post.
Good luck!
Thank you very much.. I will give that a go!
I have been searching, reading, and attempting everything I could find to fix this tablet for night and days. Some root/busybox detectors/verifiers gave me different results. Before this I knew nothing about this world so i'm a real greenhorn here. All I know so far is my device is rooted because of build no. V2.0.1.JRO03C.user.root.20131219. Afterwards some apps tell me I'm rooted and some told me no. I'm afraid something went terribly wrong with the files. I can't unroot, flash a new recovery, install adb, pretty much nothing works. All the apps I've tried told me an unknown bootloader. I just want to either return the tablet to original factory default or take control of the thing. This is the info I gathered from settings>about :
Model NX007HD8G
Android V. 4.1.1
Kernel 3.0.8
Serial no. YF031412173
And the build number above
At the moment I don't know what other info you guys might need so forgive me if I'm not thorough. Please, help me take control of my device.
Hi,
Thanks for using XDA assist.
Although there are some guides that could help you solve your problem, none of them seem to have working links for you to download and use.
Because of this, I would recommend posting in the Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting forum. Please note that in order to post, you will need to create a XDA account.
Good Luck! - gsstudios

I recently made the switch from apple to Android! I love my new Galaxy s7. I have found many great tutorials on how to root and I completely understand the risks of going through with it. Could you please post a link to the most recent, and highest rated, thread on how to root for a beginners level of expertise? Also, does baseband version matter with root? If it matters my Android version is 6.0.1 and my baseband is G930VVRU2APG5 and Kernel is 3.18.20. Please remember this is my first time on your site and I look forward to the help with my new Galaxy s7. Thank you so much!

Hi, I was wondering if you can help. I currently sell some MTK based phones. These phones do not have many updates.
What I am looking for is someone who can make me a custom rom for them, and then update them whenever possible via OTA, this way my customers can get security updates etc...
Obviously I am willing to pay for this. I have SP-Flashtools firmware images for the phones. They are currently based on MTK6735 and I was hoping that someone could port a Android 6.0 rom with OTA faciility.
Could you point me to the right forum to find some professionals that can help me please?
