So I'm just curious at this point..I know I'm on the orig. Moto g forums. With that being said its been said that moto g 2nd gen is the exact same phone as the orig moto G just with a bigger screen..but same screen resolution, same internals, same battery etc. But the moto g does have front speakers and a slight bump on the camera.
My question is..
Can the orig moto g Roms work for the moto g 2nd gen since there the same exact phone?
The reason I'm post in this on here instead of the 2nd gen forums is I know not a lot of people who own orig moto g will jump to the 2nd gen even devs for that matter but did anybody on here jump ship and know if this will work?
Moto G (1st Gen), Moto G LTE and Moto G (2nd Gen) each have unique Kernels and ROMS. They are not interchangeable from my experience. When a custom kernel is available for 2nd Gen maybe then you can try one of the zips from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/development/rom-stock-motorola-rom-collection-t2854688
While the hardware is almost identical, Motorola have made changes breaking compatibility. It probably wouldn't be a massive challenge for a skilled developer.
Summary: Someone needs to create a modified Moto G (2nd Gen) stock kernel that is compatible with Moto G (1st Gen) ROMs. Even if the ROM did boot, camera and other features may not work.
Of course it will not works, even between Moto G 2013 variants (XT1032, 1033, 1034..) do not work on each other.

Not true. I have flashed ROMs (including kernel) for XT1028, XT1031, XT1033 and XT1034 on XT1032 and they work.
I just received my OTA of lollipop and updated my g2 but there is no option to use multi user account or guest account. Did Lg not include it in the g2 update?
I want to build my first pure working AOSP ROM for Moto G 3rd Gen, can anyone help me out ?
And yes, its a 2GB variant.
Moto G 3rd Gen Developers ?
I've never build a build for Android , Please Guide Me!!
Any Answer will be Appreciated,
Regards.
I ported a 6.0.1 Moto G3 stock ROM to the Moto E 2015. Everything works amazingly great except the camera at the moment. My only other problem is no matter what I change in the build.prop I can't get the model name changed from Moto G 3 to Moto E 2015. Normally it is simply the line ro.product.model=XXX but it must be reading it from somewhere else. If anyone could tell me I would be very greatful.
Hello!
is there any custom ROM with Moto Display feature for Osprey?
I have used many custom ROMs on my Moto G3 but they all have "Ambient Display" feature instead of Moto Display.
Ambient Display is problematic because the device wakes up on toucing the display whereas on Moto Display one has to slide down in order to unlock the display which prevents unwanted unlocking of the device.
If there is any workaround to install Moto Display on a custom ROM please mention that in comments section.
Thanks!
stock optimized rom
hi, i am using this : its pretty much stock

That link is invalid it says.

Moto display only works on stock, or stock based, roms... The underlying framework doesn't work in CM based ROMs (every other ROM for the G3).

A dev that could port Moto Display to custom Roms would get very thanks. A lot of people like it. I share the exact same opinion than the OP. One thing ambient display is better is having the wave waking.

Zero. No custom ROMs support it, and perhaps will not in the future too.
