So I downloaded and installed the leaked Pixel Launcher apk onto my G5 that is all over the web, and it's nice and all, but the left swipe to the Google app does not work. Is anyone else having the same issue?

Hi, djkeller3...
Did you install it as a System app?
(...and for which you'll need to be rooted or have a Custom Recovery installed, eg TWRP).
If not, the Google Now left slide panel won't work.

I really like the google news and weather app that is on my phone. Is there any way to get it working on the Fire? I tried placing the apk in my /system/app folder and changing permission but upon reboot it was not showing up in my app drawer. There must be more involved.
Anyone know?
Thanks
Beautiful Widgets has some nice weather apps but they are not from Google.

I know what you mean. I pulled the APK from my HTC Inspire 4G and sideloaded it on KF. It even works with-out rooting. You have to give it a zip code to make it work, but thats no big deal.
If you don't want to type a zip code in and want to use geolocation you could install a modaco custom rom. The rom has built in network location and play store. You should only do this if you have already rooted and installed twrp. What you have now is probably fine.

So it sounds like you got it working then. Would you mind uploading the apk you used? Are you using a stock ROM by chance or something else on the Fire?
If you have play store you could download it and get the version for the kindle fire

Thanks, I will grab it and try it out when I flash back to a stock type rom. I am trying out CM7 right now and it has the app installed. Hopefully this one will work with a stock rom.
Thanks
Well I got it installed on the stock rooted rom I am running but it will not show up in the app drawer I can open it through titanium backup though. Seems weird it will not show in the app drawer. Unfortunately I have no way that I know of to get it to my favorites and not have to go through titanium backup to open it. Wiping dalvik and cache didn't work, nor did clearing the launcher data.

UPDATE 1: Google Search Force Close fix:
Long press the home screen, select Settings. Select Voice. Select Language to change the default. Change to another language, for me I choose English – UK. Hit Home. Do a Google Search. Repeat the first three steps. Change back to English – US. (you may have to redo this step every time you restart --- if you experienced FC --- for non-rooted users)
OR
Please extract and replace the /system/lib/libgoogle_recognizer_jni.so with the one downloaded from here: . (permanent fix --- for rooted users)
UPDATE 2: "Ok, Google" search feature fix:
If anyone has a problem with the "Ok, Google" search feature, you have to get the English (US) language update. Under Google Now settings, tap "Offline Speech Recognition" --- "All" and tap "English (US)" to update. After it is done, press home and it should be working! If you've cleared data on the app, it'll erase the update and you'll need to do this again.
Didn't Work for me so I moved GNow and Launcher to System and now works perfectly
Thank you for all the support this community gives me! (Unlike I9300 )

There isn't a root issue.
It is because you rebooted. If you have root you can put the lib file in the post and it's going to be fixed!

Not true. There was a root issue when I ran it. It installed fine but I tried to go into any root app and it told me there is no root. Swapping files wasn't possible when I couldn't get root rights to internal system or storage

Root can not be gone from installing an app.
Maybe you flashed something?
you can always root again...
Oh i agree it shouldn't be. I will try it again as I am back to stock rooted
After going back to stock I reinstalled it and it works like a charm. I was previously on a custom rom and it wouldn't work at all

Team,
I have been searching for an app that will allow me to open an app (Note Anytime), from the lock screen. I have researched may apps that apparently can do this but I haven't found one that is compatible with my XZT.
So, has anyone found such an app that works with this kit?
Thanks

Install Xposed Framework and then install Gravity Box. It has what you want. Your XTZ should be rooted.

Thanks for the tip - but I cannot root the XTZ or I will lose SkyGo! I need an un-rooted solution.

Not sure if valid but, Try widgetlocker from play store

just wondering, i've cheched into playstore, but the google launcher isn't available for this device, is there a way to install it onto our device? TIA
Just download the APK and sideload it like you would any other app. You can get it from here:

I've been using the GEL since I received my OPO and I personally love it. I'm using it along with "L" theme.
Depending what ROM you have, use http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/themes-apps/standard-minimal-gapps-t2012857 the standard package and it comes preloaded with GEL. And yes its in the N5 forum, works for OPO.

many thanks.

I just recently switched to an AOSP based ROM, and I incorectly thought that the Tasks app was a google app when it was actually an HTC app. I can't find the APK anywhere, and it would be great if someone could get me a copy of it.
