[Q] Removing internal storage? - Acer Iconia A700 and A510

My A510 no longer takes charge and I would like to get the data off the internal storage. What type of storage does it use and can it be mounted if removed from the tablet? Thanks

Well, removal will be rather hard as it is fixed on the motherboard. If your tablet is still working why not mount it on your pc with a USB cable?

Goto youtube and search Asus Transformer - USB, Wireless Mouse, SD Card, External HD
I'm using the Logitech M570 wireless trackball. As far as external HD, I was able to insert a usb flash drive and it recognized it right away.
I tested my TF with a 500 GB portable HD (Western Digital) today, and it worked flawlessly. I was initially unsure if the tablet would be able to power the HD, but no probs on that count.

Yes, just plug it in and it should be detected without any problem. I have a 500GB 2 1/2 inch external drive with a single usb lead which provides power and data and it worked first time and works great for viewing larger hd movies that would be impractical to store on microsd.
Im assuming you mean an external Hard Drive or do you just have an internal drive you want to connect?
Mark.
it recognized for like half a second

What type of external HardDrive are you trying to connect (2.5inch or 3.5inch)?
Which file system is it formatted with?
Mark.

If your form factor is 2.5 inch then you power it by the USB
If it's a 3.5 you'll have to power it externally via it's supplied power cable
I use a Seagate 1tb 2.5 and it doesn't matter if i format to HTFS or FAT32 it all works good
My micro SD cards are only recognised if formated to FAT32

I can get my dog to walk on his hind legs. It's amusing but has no practical purpose, such as you are suggesting.
Paper that comes with USB adapter states 'flash memory up to 32gb formatted fat32' not tried anything else yet...

USB Flash Drive With Dock

Has anyone tried connecting a USB flash drive to the dock usb port? Can't seem to recognize my SanDisk Cruzer and I don't have other sticks to test it with atm... When plugged in the stick is powered but there is no external memory connected notification. The drive connects fine to everything else and is formatted Fat32. Also other usb devices such as my wireless mouse work perfect with the dock.
I read some stuff on microsd cards acting up, could this be a related issue?

Just tested an old Sandisk Cruzer 4GB and it worked fine...

My 64gb Corsair and 32gb work just fine. both are usb 3.0
The issue should be the USB drive's format - ie NTFS, FAT32 or whatever
I think FAT32 works fine with Android. Can anyone confirm?

FAT32 and exFAT work flawlessly. NTFS is recognised, but gave me at least a few sudden reboots.

Broken LCD. Need to access internal storage

Went camping with the kids 2 weeks ago and somehow with the chaos of loading/unloading the kids from the car, the screen/lcd on my TF101 broke
It powers on but I cant make anything out on the display. I plug it into my PC (Win7) and its recognizing it as Media (Portable Device/Portable Media player) therefore not allowing me to browser into the internal storage to pull files that I need to.
Is there anyway I can mount the internal storage in the situation that Im in? I have tons of pictures that I would love to get off this thing.
Could touch be working?
You could hook it to a TV using an HDMI cable. If touch is working you could use a uSD to move all the files you need from internal storage to the uSD looking at the TV.

Hanging head in shame. No idea why I didn't think about this lol.
I'll give it a shot. Don't see why it shouldn't work.
Thanks!

Good luck!
Let's hope touch is working even if the screen is broken

If the device still not dead, just try connect the HDMI.

I have the Toshiba 1TB external that connects with other tabs (no external power). The Note 10.1 "tries" but fails. Perhaps a power issue as this drive has connected with android tabs in the past.
I'vegot an old Buffalo DriveStation 1TB drive. It's an externally powered 3.5" disk with a USB 2 interface. Just tried it and it works really well. Films stream very smoothly and theres no delay in accessing files.

I possibly have the same drive. The only way I can use it is to use a usb 'Y' cable which has 2 usb plugs and 1 usb socket, you plug the hard drive into the socket, one plug goes to the tab and the other one goes to an external usb power supply i.e., laptop or usb mains power adapter. If you can't find one they're easy enough to make, just google it.
From what I understand, our Tabs don't supply enough power to run high power devices such as most usb hard drives.

instead of an sd card, can i connect a usb flash drive? as storage space...

im waiting to recieve an mx2
i dont have an sd card, but was wondering can i use a usb flash drive, to download data too?
Sv: instead of an sd card, can i connect a usb flash drive? as storage space...
I would think so. I have the mk808b and I've attached a powered USB hub to it. In the hub I have my keyboard receiver and USB flash drive. So it probably works on your device too.

Yes i agree you should be able to :good:
usb power
which usb power hub do you have>
You can use any USB thumb drive without a powered HUB. Only larger HDDs require power.
