Hi,
I have had to get a new phone and have decided on the honor 8 due to specs and vides i have watched, also the price it retails for was a big factor how ever i have come from the LG G3 (it set on fire -_-)
Is it worth me unlocking the boot loader and what exactly are the benefits to it ?
I will want to root the phone as i use apps that require this will i void warranty or will i be able to undo this and keep warranty ?
Also i do like the TWRP i had on my G3 but only for the backup option, is it worth me changing the recovery as i have noticed no custom roms anyway and by the looks there is a tool that i can use for backups ?
Thanks for reading
Unlocking bootloader won't get you much (only custom recovery now).
Honor don't void warranty if you unlock the bootloader or root the device
And for me, it's not worth to flash TWRP now, no custom ROMs and it doesn't work with all models
perfect thank you for the response that everything i need to know, now im just waiting as i have 24 hours before my phone is delivered aha.
Enjoy
Don't unlock your bootloader and just enjoy your phone as much as possible at this stage.
Unlock maybe 1 year later...

I just updated my phone to the .128 (636) firmware and the improvement in the camera app is so huge compared to previous version. I was on .107(636). AI now detects the scene more consistently and apply the HDR extremely well. In my opinion the dynamic range is on par with pixel 2 or even slightly better with this version. I can shoot handheld night scene at shutter speed 1/24 without using the night mode which is usually at 4 seconds shutter speed (harder to handhold). The only way to get this firmware right now is via funky huawei though

I did not pay attention to the front camera because i hardly use it, the photos from the front facing camera looked the same to me. I am sure they did something to it too because the rear camera difference is huge, looks like the change the AI HDR algorithym or something.

It doesn't break google play... Depending where you are it voids your warranty.
Well you'll have to hurry if you decide to do it... Since they'll stop providing unlock codes soon. Just go to the uk support chat and ask for a bootloader unlock code, you should get it on you email in 2 days if they agree if not jjst go onto chat again and say you didn't recieve it... They should be able to provide it to you.

Lucky you, when I got mine it the site was down.
But I would really recommend doing it if you know yourself to be careful with your phone. The updated firmware is worth it...since it can be quite some times till huawei might push the update to your device/country/region. etc. so that's the only way to actually keeping up to date without having to wait a lot..
I was hoping that I could install Magisk and TWRP. I don't really care about custom ROMs, is it possible or am I out of luck? Some info about my device:
Build number is BKL-L04 8.1.0.105(C567)
EMUI is 8.0.0
Security patch is March 1, 2018
If it is possible, are there any guides?
Which 3rd party unlocking service should I go through? And before I proceed, should I update to the latest software version?
Thanks.

Actually it has to do with unlocking the bootloader and rooting typically goes hand in hand with bootloader unlocking so it kind of does.
