Send usage info xperia xa cannot be disable on prototypes - Sony Xperia XA Questions & Answers

Hello everybody, I hope someone can help me.
I just rooted my xperia xa following the thread by rrvuhpg and was prompt with a warning saying that my phone is a prototype and as such I cannot disable the "send usage info" on about phone. So my location and personal info + other stuff is being sent to sony. Does anyone know how to disable it? Or whatever files i need to delete? thank you in advance.

Yes I know, it will be fixed on next release. Not all rootpack are affected. You can edit the build.prop in the boot.img to switch eng to user type. It was enabled for debugging and I forgot to disable it. Sorry

You can edit boot and recovery with Carliv Image Kitchen from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/tool-cika-carliv-image-kitchen-android-t3013658
Read the "how to use" from the thread (very easy to use), after unpack go to the Ramdisk folder, open default.prop with a text editor and change "ro.build.type=eng" to "ro.build.type=user". Repack and flash new img (in the output folder of Carliv Image Kitchen). Do that for boot and recovery (if needed).

Again man thanks All done and working perfect. I actually did a bit more with titanium backup and a root browser end up deleting all the folders and files related with it. So all good now. Tks again ur a star :d

Hi rrvuhpg,
used your description to root my prototype XA. Now works like a charm.
Thank you so much for sharing!

@NigmatiK @rrvuhpg
Thank you very much for this thread. It helped me tremendously in removing that annoying prototype feature.

The programs structure is built by the initflashfiles.dat. You might check there for that folder. Open it with notepad and remember to just click "save" not "save as". And then open it with winhex or any other hex editor and remove the first 2bytes "FFFE"
The "About" version you could change in the default.hv, but convert it to default.rgu before that and don't forget to add "REGEDIT4" without quotes in the first line and leave the last line empty. Then convert it back to .hv
didn't I answer that for you on aim?
it was after i posted it...

Cook your splash screen

Btw, this is where I got the ability to cook my splash screen on my ROMs. You know the first bootscreen.
Here.
I don't speak Vietnamese, but it's pretty easy to figure out. If you don't understand me, tell me and I'll write a walkthrough. The pictures tell it all, though.
EDIT:
Things you need:
-Thay Doi_SplashScreen.
-NBH_Tool_v1.1.
-HTC_ROM_Tool.
Create a BMP or JPG that's 240x320.
Run Chạy Tool Replace SplashScreen.exe
Click Load Bitmap and choose your file.
Click Update Splash.
It will create the needed files where the BMP/JPG is currently stored.
Take the ruu_signed.nbh and use NBH_Tool_v1.1 to extract the PrimarySplash.nb that you can use with your ROM.
you should probably type it up anyway. hah
Thanks for the link, Ivan
Can someone upload the files, I cant read the site so I cant make a log in lol.
Thx
Write up
Hi,
I will try to write this up today as time allows.
How-To
As promised, please download the attached zip file.

Dumb Question
Okay, this is probably a dumb question.
I followed your instructions to the letter -- got the PrimarySplash.nb file.
My questions is Now what do I do to flash it to the phone. Go back to step 1?
Please Advise
Thanks

Now that's going to be another post... How to install your newly created splash screen.

This file will contain step on how to create a nbh file. Just follow the steps and only include your PrimarySplash.nb file and not the rom.
Then flash it as you would with a rom.
Good luck,

Just one question. I put the PrimarySplash.nb in splash box and not system box -- right?
Please advise.

Haven't tested that, but it's probably for one of the other two startups. The first startup cannot be changed without flashing.

did you make the picture that you want for the flash screen ? Did you download the easy how to as well ???
Ok I am no noob .. Maybe im too tired or I missed something somewhere in all of this. So let me ask all the dumb questions and hopefully you can make this a sticky clearly explained. Lets start will all the directions 1 by 1 and hopefully 1 of you geniuses can clean it up then hopefully make a sticky .....
A.) Download all files needed. (assistance is more than welcomed here)
B.) get the picture you want to use for your splash screen.
(**Instructions written by ttran001**)
1. Copy the image you would like to use into the image folder.
2. Open up the Step 1 folder and run the Replace SplashScreen.exe file.
3. Click on Load Bitmap from the newly opened menu (Replace Artemis SPlashScreen.
4. Click on the Update Splash button.
The PDA Phone ROM Update Utility 3.0.3.1 menu will pop up.
Leave it alone.
5. Go back to the image folder for step 1 and locate the RUU_signed.nbh file.
6. Copy the RUU_singed.nbh and place it into the RUU_signed folder.
7. Go back and close out both PDA Phone ROM Update Utility 3.0.3.1 and Replace Artemis SplashScreen.
8. Now go to the step 2 folder and double click on the nbhtool.exe.
9.This will open up Dutty's good NBH tool v1.1.
10. Click on the Decompile NBH file button.
11. Browse back to the RUU_singed folder and locate the new RUU_signed.nbh file.
12. Choose the same location or the one of your choosing to save the extract files.
13. Once completed it will extract a new file called PrimarySplash.nb, this is your new Splash replacement file.
OK we now have that part as easy as can be. Now the next parts for creating a nbh file.
Download and extract the HTC_ROM_Tool to your computer.
Double click on the htcrt.exe file to get started.
This new screen will popup.
Click on the Build! button.
On this screen click on the box under the Device: to select your device type.
Choose Herald
Type in your version of the rom, example: 4.10.531.3
Click on the box highlighted in red to choose your OS.nb file.
( Now where do we get this file from i would like that clarified and have it added to a download list for the sticky please.)
Click on the Build ROM botton.
This new screen will popup.
OK ... Now we have a nbh file... Now what would be the correct way of flashing this to a device. also the basic questions.
1.) Will this delete and or change my settings. ?
2.) What are the risks of flashing this way ?
3.) Does this work with HardSPL ?
4.) Does this work without HardSPL ?
5.) Must the picture be a bitmap ?
6.) Can I just use the ReplaceSplashScreen to just change the splash screen ?
7.) Does the program ReplaceSplashScreen work on wing before HardSPL or after or both ?
8.) Maybe im really tired how do I put pictures in this thread ... LOL ...
If I want to change the Windows Mobile splash also, do I change the name from "PrimarySplash" to "Secondary Splash"? or something? thanks.

UPDATE-ZIP/Flashable-zip Whole-file Signer

Here I present,
An easy to use and effective, Flashable-zip(or update.zip) Signer!
There are many update-zip(flashable zip) Signers available, but this is special.
This Signer WHOLE-FILE signs your update.zips/flashable-zips, so it can pass even recovery's Signature Verification(Tested on CWM 5.0.2.8 on HTC Wildfire S)!
Unfortunately, as I am not very veryGood at C/C++ Programming, this tool does not have a Graphic User Interface(GUI).
I apologize, but as I am new to XDA, I don't know how to insert pictures, "Code:" etc, so this thread may look very ugly to you.
Oh yes! And DON'T EVER delete any file included in the zip, as it will cause the zip signer to malfunction.
I may have made this flashable-zip Signer, but I couldn't have done it without this people:
zeppelinrox ( for teaching me a little C/C++ Programming with his scripts )
The creator of signapk.jar ( an important part of this tool )
Google ( For Creating Android so that these tools can be developed )
YOU! ( for testing out my flashable-zip Signer )
And many more, who I apologize for leaving you out
Guide to using this zip signer
To Use this Signer:
1) Unzip the file(Obviously!)
2) Copy & paste the update-zip(a.k.a flashable zip) that you want to sign into that folder.
3) Run ROM Signer.bat
4) Follow the instructions in the application.
5) When it says "File successfully signed......", You are DONE!
After File signing operation succeeds, check the "signed" folder for your signed zip file.
Thank you for Using my Flashable-zip Signer!
I would appreaciate if you would hit the "Thanks" button.

Sorry let me better understand your issue first, you want to create a flashable update.zip for installing your firmware files right? So you want to create the correct META-INF files from scratch? Do you have TWRP recovery installed on your phone already? Cos it supports a newer kind of META-INF structure that makes a lot easier. Also your firmware files are for installing into the /system partition, or to be flashed? Sorry for having so many questions haha, I can better help you if I understand the technical details

I don't think there is. Maybe I'm wrong too.
Basically all these boot.img tools are written in shell/bash and is made specifically to run in Linux distros.
Anyways there is an Android app called, Complete Linux Installer that lets you install any Linux OS in your phone. But I doubt whether boot.img tools work, as it needs various library files for it to work.
On a side note, I guess it would be more complex to do it in phone rather than in PC, if there is some way for it to work.

Thank you for your reply, but do you feel strange that the IMG is created by the recovery, so it is rational that there is a tool about IMG building. then why there is no apk. I mean some professional can extract just from the CWM recovery, I think.

yes, I root, so I can use the recovery to back and restore,
I think any app that can access zip files in the internal and external memory can extract boot.img.
Like ASTRO File Manager and stuff...

Nooooo
boot.img is the kernel (zImage + Ramdisk packed into an image file) that lies in the /boot partition
@ OP - If you want to extract boot.img itself, there are various methods and from CWM recovery like you said. I thought you were mentioning about how to unpack the contents of the boot.img say like zImage, Ramdisk and other files.

It could be done using this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20227868&postcount=1124 and a hex editor from play store on your phone. But would be even more fiddly than on pc I would imagine, unless your phone has a largish screen. It could be done though.
If editing the ramdisk, you would need to unpack and repack after editing, which usually requires linux. I recently found http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2036528 for PC, but have not had a chance to try it yet, seems best solution for OP

Thank you for that n1osbb2;51494733.
I also have a bricked one, it gets stuck at animation. I can boot into stock recovery.
Can someone tell me what I need to do to fix it?
Another idea is if we could change the firmware version number to something lower, then the Alacatel "Mobile Upgrade S" would be essentially forced to overwrite it. Right now it sees my phone's version as up to date and stops there.
So... Is it at all possible to alter the firware version number on the phone?

Hi, the backup by MTK droid tools fails everytime, I'm trying to debug the error.. If I have sucess I'll upload it.
BTW you can try another methods:
-Flash the CWM using MTK droid tools ( if you want the modified recovery, img I can upload it, or if u want MTK generates the img automatically: there is a guide on google; and then you can flash my backup without user data trought the CWM
If u want CWM make adb works, so you can do a backup of your firmware in order to can come back in the prevoiuos situation if it's needed
OR
-Using the latest version of SP flash tools, u can flash the system.img that u can find in my CWM backup. The latest version have no bugs with the generation of the scatter file, so it could work, but I'm not sure
Sorry for my bad english, I hope you understand..
Let me know if one of this methods works, thank you!

Thanks for the reply.
Is the modified recovery.img not the one included in the zip you uploaded?
Re the second option, there is no system.img inside - that's the reason I asked for a MTK Droid Root & Tools backup.
The contents of your zip are these:
Code:
.android_secure.vfat.tar
boot.img
cache.ext4.tar
recovery.img
system.ext4.tar

I confused the system.ext4.tar with the system.ext4.img
So, I have done half MTK droid backup (it stops when it give me the error, so is not thecomplete backup, but the system.img os ok..) and there is the system image file.. I can upload it 5-04 night (GMT+1) or maybe this night. I'll post the link when it's uploaded.
The firmware of the 4033D have the custpack partiotion too, adn I don't know if it's needed too, so if the flash of system.img fails I'll upload the custpack too
The recovery with CWM is here: https://www.mediafire.com/?bg4rtah9tsbhszs
EDIT: I done a full backup with MTK adn I prepared files for flash tool. I compressed it all in ~460MB archive, t should contain everything. The upload time is the same!
EDIT2 4-3-14 0051 gmt+1: I'm uploading it on Mediafire! It's a high compressed arc archive, so it can drop the pc perfomance while extracting, so have patience
With my connection it wants a lot of time, it say ~8hrs

Or, if u want, can u upload it? So I'll do a backup and I'll upload it! TY
Edit:
I've installed CWM 5 ad I did a nandroid backup.. It's 1.6GB ( uncompressed ).. So, I'll begin to upload it 31 night (GMT+1) splitted in parts in MEGA or MediaFire.
