Stop android from linking/joining contacts automatically - General Questions and Answers

Hi everybody,
I recently bought a new Samsung Galaxy J7 6 (2016 version of j7) -wich has android 6 marshmallow by the way- and since i configured my google account and started syncing contacts, i was surprised that contacts with the same name were automatically linked/joined together.
I tried many suggestions like removing all other accounts except the google account, clear cache data, removing google account and reconfigure it one more time, even deleting cache partition and doing a factory reset and the problem remains.
I started unlinking contacts manually one by one -wich is a crazy work of more than a thousand contacts- and even though i find some of them linked automatically one more time after a while -especially when i enter a new contact that has the same name-
Please note that in my previous Samsung Galaxy A5 -wich has android 5 lollipop- i never had this issue and also when checking my google contacts on the web at contacts.google.com they're all good and no contact is linked with one another.
Please kindly help me find a way to prevent the system from linking contacts automatically

New Google Calendar help

Hello all. I want to first apologize if this isn't the proper place for this question. Please move to the proper place if that is the case.
I have a very weird issue with the new google calendar app. There are only 3 contacts that the app does not show the picture in the birthday calendar. These same 3 also can not be tapped to "wish a happy birthday".
I've tried clearing the data through Settings/apps/downloaded-calendar-clear data.
I've tried restarting the phone.
I've tried updating the contact info through both google contacts online and on the phone.
I thought maybe it was because these 3 had no last names so i added last names. Nothing
I also thought maybe because they didn't have email addresses attached to them. Added an email. Nothing.
Its so frustrating because in the calendar app that came preloaded on the phone does show these 3 contacts and their pictures, as well as everyone else's. So I'm really at a loss on what to do. Any help?

[Q] Default Google account in Lollipop

I have 3 Google accounts.
1 personal, which is my main account for apps and email. The others are official and education Google accounts.
The personal account was used to set up my phone (Moto X 2014 on Lollipop), before the other two Google accounts were added.
Here is the issue that apps (both Google and non-Google) seem to be picking one of the other accounts as the default account. E.g. when signing up for a new service like Twitter, it would assume that my official account is the main, whilst it is actually the personal. I know that the account can easily be changed by selecting the other, but it does not work for all apps as mentioned below.
The same issue has been described here:
Now when I receive a contact via WhatsApp and I click on it to save, it would automatically save it to the wrong Google account, since the phone considers that to be the main account even though it was not used to set up the phone.
Does anybody have an idea where to change this? I have experienced this on Lollipop on both the Nexus 5 and Moto X 2014. The problem did not occur on Kitkat.
Anybody?
This ****ing sucks. I have the same problem. Some apps just randomly chose an account instead of the first added one.
Why is there no default option?

[Q] Lenovo K3 Note - Stock ROM - Contacts won't sync with Google

Hello dear xda-developers!
I just received my Lenovo K3 Note and Flashed it back to the Stock Rom (VIBEUI_V2.5_1529_5_1063.1_ST_K50-TS after an Update) and installed Google Play store. After that I proceeded to install all the Google services and Apps I need.
Everything is working just fine except for the Contacts. When I open Contacts and go to the Account Settings, there is no Google Account. I cannot add a Google Account either, it only offers me WhatsApp.
If I go to Settings --> Accounts --> Google and select my Google Account, then I have the following Sync Options:
App Data, Calendar, Drive, Gmail, Google Fit data, People details
... but no Contacts
I've tried installing 3rd party Contact Apps and also deleting the app-data and cache of the "Contacts Manager" and "Contacts Storage" Apps, but all to no avail. VIBEUI just doesn't even give me the option of getting my Google Contacts.
Any Ideas? I'm really happy with the phone so far, but this needs to work :/
Thanks in advance for any help, but I really don't need workarounds, I know there are tons of ways to export/import contacts, but I use my Google Contacts on multiple devices and I need a way to keep them synced the way Google intended
Cheers!
Same problem here! Did you find any solution?
Mine works just fine, but I'm using Vibeui 2.8 1542. Please try another version of Google apps package.

[HELP] Google Account banned in Snapchat with Casper

Hello there,
So silly me, I tried out the 3rd party Snapchat app, Casper. Doing so barred my primary/mail google email account from Snapchat . Snapchat uses your Google accounts for multi-threaded authentication so such apps such as Casper cannot function.
So far the only way I've come across to restore access is a FULL WIPE & RESET then install Snapchat on a fresh install with dummy email (then bring back my primary email).
However after updates I will continue to get the 'banned' screen on Snapchat login. I've even tried quite a few different things including deleting accounts, deleting accounts.db, even factory resets/Dalvik wipes, and removing app via SD Maid. Unfortunately the factory reset needs to be paired with a fresh ROM install.
I went ahead and changed the email account associated with my Snapchat username to a different one and still the problem has not resolved.
For argument's sake, let's just say that a new Snapchat username would still get banned & my primary Google account will always be my primary account.
Any tips/advice/fix actions/experience with this sort of thing other than a fresh ROM install & wipe?
Thank you all, wonderful people, for the help tonight.
You were supposed to create a completely different gmail when using Casper. You should have never used your primary email that you usually use with Snapchat

Hey! I see it is a very old thread, but did you get a solution? I have the same problem atm...

Problems Syncing Google Contacts on HTC

Hello all,
I have a problem syncing my Google contacts with my HTC One M8 (running Android 6.0). In the past, I have been able to sync the HTC People app with Google (and also link them with data from other apps).
Yesterday, I had to reset my Google account settings. I also cleared the People data, before putting the account settings back and syncing the data. Now it will only sync some of the contacts. It's missing about 190 of my contacts (which are clearly still there on Google). I can find no pattern to the contacts it includes/excludes. I have tried repeating the process - clearing all the data and settings and putting it all back - but I cannot get all of the contacts to appear on my phone any more.
Can anyone tell me how to solve this? Failing that, is there another (reliable) app for syncing contacts data from multiple sources, including Google, Whatsapp, and Skype? Thank you in advance!
Can you verify that missing ppl have either google plus profiles or (birth)dates set? Refer to https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-2-xl/help/contact-sync-flashing-8-1-image-syncing-t3715229 ... this seems broken since the 8.1 release but also breaks for non-oreo and non-pixel devices

Thanks for posting so quickly - and for directing me to a thread for precisely this issue! I am missing rather too many contacts to go through all of them, but it's definitely not confined to contacts with a G+ profile and/or a date. As you say, the Android version on my phone also pre-dates that of most users experiencing this problem.
It seems there's no clear solution yet, but (from the thread) it seems to be early days. For now, I have manually exported my Google Contacts to a vCard file and imported it to my phone contacts. I guess I'll wait and see if Google comes up with a solution in due course.

Deleted my Google account and People app data (again) today. Replaced them and suddenly I am finding ALL my Google contacts syncing again. I don't really have an explanation for why it worked this time but it might be relevant that I also installed the dedicated Google Contacts app this time round.
I solved this problem by deactivating power saver. After a few minutes, Contacts started to sync with my Google account.
