Hey all,
Recently I've switched from Honor 6 to Honor 8.
I have enabled the "Carrier aggregation" (LTE Cat. 6, 4G+). Problem is I'm not sure that Honor 8 is able to connect to 4G+.
With the Honor 6 I am able to achieve the 4G+ connection.
I'm on FRD-L09 with FRD-L09C432B120 in Athens/Greece.
Does anyone have the same issue? Can someone please test if it's working?
Thanks!

It seems to be correct. After all I get the 4G connection properly. I'll double check if APN needs anything more for the 4G+. Thank you.

Thanks button. Lol
Ok, I've contacted my carrier to ask them about the issue. They answered that I'll just have to wait. They provide the 4G+ service per smartphone brand and model. Honor 8 is relatively new, so they have to update their "list of supported devices".

That does make sense....but wouldn't u think that that should have already been implemented?

I don't really know their internals, but I'm guessing it's more of a bureaucratic than actual "implemention" issue.

i am just wondering is anyone knows if this model can display LTE or will just show 4G? thank you to anyone with any information it is greatly appreciated
If it shows 4g there is a exposed module that allows you to change it to lte
That's my best advice

Nothing to fear about root. It gives you greater freedom.
Also there are some themes that might change 3G LTE icons.

Does anybody know these LTE band list is correct on this page? http://windowsceportal.hu/index.php?m=device&id=10740&c=huawei_honor_8_premium_edition_dual_sim_lte-a_frd-l19
If not, where is a proper source?
I have a feeling I know the answer to this, but is there any way to enable VoLTE on the unlocked version, notably on the Rogers network in Canada?
Thanks

Ok thanks. That would be a yes on all of those (as it worked on my GS7 quite well) so is it just an option in the settings? If so I can't find it..?

Settings-->More-->Mobile network-->VoLTE calls. Enable that. If LTE stays connected when making a call you have VoLTE.

Thanks but that's what I originally feared: there is no VoLTE option anywhere in there..? I had done a search too and nothing pops up.
Rummaging through the internet, I found an article saying the unlocked version (mine) would NOT have VoLTE. No sure how accurate that was.

Are you connected to Wind by any chance? I don't think that network has volte yet. I think Rogers purchased them.
No, I'm on Rogers and I can confirm I had VoLTE before on my Galaxy S7, so it's neither the network or my account the issue.

Very weird. Maybe ask your carrier to check provisioning for your device. What bands does your carrier use for VoLTE?
it should be supported bu carrier it self , not only the phone ! check with them !
Well after some investigating, I have an answer: Rogers only support VoLTE on Apple, LG and Samsung devices...
This is really unfortunate but it's one last thing missing from the Honor 8 to make it my daily driver. It's an excellent device and I was very impressed for the price tag, but not having wireless charging, VoLTE and 4k video made me realize how much I actually use it.
Thanks for the help guys!

Anyone using the Honor 8 on US Tmobile and having issues with VOLTE? I see the setting is set but I don't get VOLTE when I make a call, it drops to 4G and no web browsing is available because data speed drops.
I stopped using VoLTE awhile back, I have an Honor 8 [Emui 5] and I have used T-Mobile for a very long time.

So you do NOT get VOLTE? What FW version are you on?
Has Huawei/Honor indicated any support for Wifi calling in future updates?
I get VOLTE on Honor 8. FRD-L04 model. I'm stock rooted EMUI 4.1.

It says 4GLTE while I'm on a call in the status bar.
VoLTE works great on T-Mobile for my Honor 8.
Honor 8 T-mobile has issues with VoLTE. When you call another Tmobile, it makes call continously for 15 to 18 times. I stopped using VoLTE.
works, no only if they can send and update to get wifi calling working

I am using TMobile and Honor 8 EMUI 5. Yes, I have VoLTE turned off now as enabling it fails to call other TMobile numbers.
Is there any disadvantage over turning off VoLTE? What do I lose?

That's bizarre. I have no issues with that.
One disadvantage would be if you're in a band 12 area. The phone will have to drop to the old network to make a call. The old network may not have as good a signal.
Hold the power button until the device hard reboots. This fixes weird call issues for me.
Is there any way to verify or force Band 71 to test that it works on a T-Mo Pixel 3? Thanks!

Thank you, but I guess I was specifically referring more to what could be done with the Pixel 3 in my hand to confirm that I can use Band 71 and verify it on the device myself.
Thanks

Try the app LTE Discovery. It will tell you what band your on so you'll know if you come across it. Not sure if it will list every band available to you.. Which sounds like what you want to know.
Ok. I will check it out. Thanks!

I've been wondering the same thing and haven't found an app that shows it yet. I'm in an area that has band 71 and I haven't noticed a difference in coverage since moving from a Nexus 5X. Let me know if you find anything that works.
I've been worndering this as well... I use signal spy and have yet to connect to band 71. My coverage has not improved and i still lose signal at the usual deadspots in my town...
Can anyone verify that they have been able to connect to band 71 with their Pixel 3? I haven't seen anyone say that been able to connect...
It should. It supports it

It is at the standard of the H.W not the S.W.
The same questions were asked of the 10 ultra. Some said hard, some software but no one posted any success in opening more bands.

Reasonable question man, those replies suck. It has the same modem as the iPhone 13, it's a Snapdragon X65 5G so technically you should be able to. If not in NV, you could in software programming tool of Qualcomm, might have to be the newest software though. If you could identify the modem chip number in a teardown video possibly we could find the product model number and see if it's a hardware limited or base chip limited by firmware.
That makes sense. Back in the day, I had a Zuk Z2 Pro and it worked but haven't had a phone with a snapdragon since.
Thanks Jdorman12 for replying with actual words, not a single emoji
