I’m struggling with my Xperia Z3 these days. It’s because of the WIFI speed issue. This happen suddenly when I access the internet through the WIFI connection. Internet speed is really slow in Chrome Browser, Facebook and other applications. But the thing is when I use the ookla internet speed test I got my full bandwidth in network connection (20 Mbps +). And I tried to update my apps through the google play store. Sometimes it’s not updating. Sometimes its download speed is 100/200 Kbps. And i enable my mobile data and disable WIFI connection. It works really well in mobile data connection apps also works charmly. So I have tried couple of things to solve this problem.
1. Clear cache + data in Google Play Store -> Not fixed
2. Re install marshmallows firmware -> Not fixed
3. Rollback to the KITKAT version - > Not fixed
4. Install WIFI analyzer -> Seems okay instats
5. Disconnect and connect phone to WIFI router -> Not fixed
6. Connect to my other WIFI router -> Not fixed
7. Change WIFI settings in phone -> Not fixed
8. Create WIFI hotspot using another mobile phone and connect to the hotspot -> Not fixed
But my issue is still exist. It's really weird. My other mobile phone works well in same WIFI network. So i really need to solve this problem. I'm really appreciate someone can help to my issue. Thanks.
Note: i'm not a native english speaker
Anyone knows about this issue?
Just found a clue
I've installed "Super VPN" to my mobile and i saw my WIFI connection become stable but internet speed is still slow. When i install app from google play store it downloading without drop the download. But 100/200 Kbps constant speed. Another option I've tried again yesterday, but i was done this before. Add google DNS (8.8.4.4) to my WIFI network. Then it getting more that 100/200 Kbps but not constant. Well i don't know the exact reason.
But i'm using Customized UK firmware version. But i'm living in south asia.
Router settings perhaps?
Does you router have a 5ghz wifi option? because I sometimes have the same issue when using 2.4ghz wifi, while 5ghz is always fine
@mantin36 and @bookworth I've two WIFI connections in my home, so both have same issue. Also I've tried every channel in one router. Still not solve this issue. Both routers are 2.4 Ghz. But the thing is this phones WIFI connection worked before like solid. After couple of days from the purchased date this issue happens. Any idea?

I just upgraded my router to a wireless one. Firstly, it's connected via ethernet to a PC and it is happily getting internet access.
On my i5500 I get a strong wifi signal. Wifi Analyser shows the signal at max constantly. I can also connect with Gmote and it works just fine.
The problem is that I can't actually access the net at all from the phone.
So basically I know that my phone is talking to the router with no problem. It's just getting out onto the internet.
Does anyone know of a solution?
try logging into your router and change the broadcast channel to something else and test it again. it should be something like a/b/g mode... define a single channel and see if it works.
I had originally thought that was working. It did for the first few minute where I had connection but then it just dropped.
I have noticed that I have some very small bursts where I can connect.
Do you think that trying the different channels may be the solution?
I have the same problem. Have you found a solution?
Still no solution. I went through every channel and every encryption method.
So far I've found that having the channel set on 'Auto' and then disabling encryption seems to give me internet connection through WIFI for at least the initial period but it eventually drops. But that's also not always.
I've also Googled it to death and found nothing. If you do find the solution please post it here and I'll do the same.
Maybe we can help each other.
make sure you entered the right password of wlan.
use a pc to connect the router and in the wlan you'll find the password.
Ok, just to clarify. My phone connects to the Router via WLAN. In fact I can use Gmote to control my PC. So the WLAN connection is great.
The problem is accessing the internet when using that connection.
I had similar problems with a router last year. I resolved the issues by flashing DD-WRT firmware. The manufacturer's firmware was junk.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
I had that idea but they don't have firmware for my router yet. I have asked them if they intend to make one.
Any chance the firewall on your phone is blocking your browser from using the Wifi?
Sent from my DInc via XDA App
I have no firewall on my phone.
Ok I've tried some new stuff and they I've had the longest connectivity so far (which is about half an hour).
First I made sure my Wifi wasn't set to turn off when the screen goes to sleep. Second, according to a forum I read, Netgear recommends channel 7. If that channels doesn't work try 1,3,6,9,11,13.
I then disabled encryption.
Fortunately no one near me uses Wifi at all and I've got the kind of walls that stop the signal from getting outside.
Anyway. It's working so far but I'll monitor and report.
[edit] And I forgot. The router was checking for firmware but it wasn't actually finding so I downloaded it myself. Seems that also made a difference.
Ok. I can confirm after 2 and a half hours my internet connection is stable. I even left half way through and when I came back it connected perfectly.
So as a summary here's what I did:
1) Get latest firmware
2) Change channel to 7
3) Disable encryption
I will change encryption and see if it still works
Hello all,
I just bought a Oneplus One.
But when I tried to connect to my home Wifi (which is 2,4Ghz, and no options to use 5Ghz) it didn' t saw my router.
Now I downloaded Wifi Analyser, This is showing me that I only have a connection with my router if my phone is only a few centimeter/inches away from the router.
This problem is not in my router because i have this with all the wifi connections that are using 2.4Ghz.
All the wifi connections that use 5ghz are working fine.
I've already changed the channels on my router, which didn't make any difference.
I also did a factory reset, still nothing.
I also changed the settings of my phone to only use 2,4Ghz wifi.
I set my wifi performance to his max but still only connection with my router if I hold my phone a few centimeter/inches away from it.
Does anyone have any ideas that I can try? Its really annoying that I can use wifi
Thanks for your time!
Hi. Recentlly I bought a Samsung S7(G930A - AT&T version) as refurbished one. I found a big issue what hurts me a lot. Here are some issues with wifi:
I could not really connect to a lot of WIFI networks, it says "connecting" after that it drops and cycle begins once again infinitly.
On several networks it shows "authentication error occured" , although wifi is public and another devices connects to than one.
On several networks, it connects but connection is very slow(0).. only way to make a better connection, is to put phone on router...awful...
On one networks which i tried, it worked ok..it's an 5ghz wifi. although, not for a long distance from router.
I installed all updates, tried troubleshots from internet with bluetooth, reset and everything..but no success at all... Now I think that problem is really in hardware... Had anyone such issues ? Any solutions to fix ?
Please help...

I had frequent wifi connection authentication errors when connecting with my home wifi and slow Internet loading speeds with my Galaxy tablet, but all my other wifi devices connect consistently without errors.
The steps below solved a similar problem with my Samsung Galxy Note 10.1, and it might help with your Galaxy 7. Some of the steps may vary with your device, but the goal is to set wifi Poxy Settings to NONE, and IP Settings to DHCP. It completely resolved my home wifi authentication error and slow spped when browsing.
For the Galaxy Note 10.1: Settings> WiFi> long press the SSID/router name(the wifi you want to connect to)> Modify Network Config> check the box "Show Advanced Options">set proxy settings to "None" -- set IP settings to "DHCP"> Save.
Now my wifi connection with the Galaxy note 10.1 are quick, consistent, and Internet pages load fast.
I hope this is helpful.
Is anyone here also experiencing the same problem with me?
I found that from time to time, my XZ Premium losses WiFi connection and can't find any hotspot until I turn on then turn off airplane mode, or just restart.
Here are the screenshots form my S7 edge (SM-G935F) and XZ Premium, they were next to each other and very close to the router.
Please help me, thank you.

are you using 5G? if you are, you need to update the wifi channel and band through your router settings. that's what i did with mine and now i don't have that intermittent wifi connection anymore.

Sure, thanks, I will give a try, and can you please tell me which channel and band should I use?
Anyone found a solution for this?
Wifi was spotty before the Android 8 update but now it's almost unusable. Every now and again it will just stop showing wifi connections, toggling wifi on and off might show a connection or 2 but it will either disappear or just say "Disabled" when trying to connect to it. Reboot solves it for a little while.
Usually use 2.4Ghz wifi with a variety of router brands.

Happens here on Android 8 as well, quite annoying to be honest. Sometimes drops the connection for no reason, and then when I click on WiFi settings, it doesn't show any connections till I turn WiFi on and off and even then it'll only show 1 SSID, turning it off for a while longer and then turning it back on brings back the rest of them and then it'll connect, but it's stupid how I have to keep doing this every few hours.
I set my 2.4 and 5 GHz bands to different names and join only the 5 GHz, and I don't get drops. On Oreo rooted.
i have xperia xz premium with Oreo 8.0 I encounter the same problems when I'm connected to my wifi, suddenly the data connection is blocked, and when this happens I have to turn off and on the wifi symbol to restore the connection. I do not understand why this happens. My phone is updated to the 47.1.A.5.51 system with November google patches. My modem is Billion Bipac 7800N
So it seems to be a common issue, anyone know if Sony is aware of it?
Where can we complain? It's their damn top of the range phone and it's most basic function isn't working right.

Knock yourself out. I've had more than one device with the Snapdragon 835 behave in this way, so I think it's a chipset issue.

Do a Google search for WiFi and Oreo and you will see that this is affecting multiple cell phones.
Do they all have the 835 chip in them???
I think it is an Oreo issue.
I have no such problems and I have Oreo and the 835.
Try disabling IPv6 on your router.
This is still OS/firmware issue but this temporally fix the issue

I found the solution:
My network works with two devices:
1 ZTE Router (2.4GHz)
1 D-LINK Repeater (2.4GHz)
In the router my XZ Premium works nicely, in the repeater happen exactly what you said, Connect apperars "no internet" after 1 second and wifi on Smartphone is automatically disabled or wifi stay enabled, but says "disabled" on network.
So.. I checked the wlan settings of the two devices in my network exhaustively item by item and I changed the devices settings about 20 times, I and I found that none of the settings matters (wpa or wep, 5Ghz or 2.4Ghz, Bandwidth 20Mhz or 40Mhz, type of network b / g / n, nor channel 1 to 13) just ignore this.
What REALLY MATTERS is a option in the advanced wlan settings, called "Fragment Threshold" this value was at 500, I changed it to the maximum (2346) and my XZ Premium started the connection instantly. Explaining: increasing this value defined that the packet can be up to 2346 bytes before being fragmented, so we deactivate packet fragmentation, reducing overhead and ensuring the best transmission rate possible, so this option determines the size of the frame.
Put simply: Go to advanced Wlan settings, locate "Fragment Threshold" and change to the highest possible value. That worked for me =)
worked for me
1- turn off wifi in being wifi settings ie where you view your wifi networks
2- select "scanning settings". it will show once you have turned your wifi off
3- turn off wifi and bluetooth scanning
4- go back turn wifi back on and enjoy

It did not work for me, unfortunately.
I know I am reactivating this thread after nearly 3 years of the last post but did anyone find any effective solution to the Wifi issue?
We have set up a WiFi router at our summer house and all devices bar my OnePlus 8 connects without problem to the WiFi. My phone connects to the WiFi but not the internet. Have restarted the phone and removed and added the WiFi connection but no luck. Any idea what's going on?
I had this problem with my oneplus 8, European version, where at times internet connection would drop, but wifi was still connected so the phone was in effect blocked since I use VoWiFi both voice calls and data was blocked.
The problem turned out to be between my router and the oneplus 8. I had to go into the settings of the router and disable a feature called "band steering". This setting will make the two different wifi gateways inside the router, the 2.4 ghz and the 5 ghz appear as one and the same with the same SSID name. This is supposed to simplify setting up devices with wifi but is known to cause problems sometimes.
As soon as I had separated the two and given them different names, I no longer have a problem with internet access dropping from the wifi.
I have no idea where the fault happens, I only know that I have had to disable band steering with another router I had before. I think this feature might be a bit unstable.
No idea what's happened but this morning it just worked.
