Hello all,
I've searched the forums as best as I could and couldn't really find an answer. I've just ordered a Captivate from Ebay to use as a front end for the 7" monitor in my dash in my car. I'll be doing this with the video out feature that this phone features. The thing is, 2.2 is just a bit too ancient for me, and I was hoping to install one of the Jellybean roms. Can anyone running a custom rom let me know if the video out feature remains intact with custom roms?
Anyone? I know this is a mostly dead board for an old phone, I just need someone who's running something 4.0 or newer to go into the display settings and tell me if the video out mode is still there. I know that doesn't necessarily mean it will function, but it will give me some hope.
80 views and no one can tell me if there's a video out option in their display settings. Sweet.
I've tried video out with cm7 or 9. I couldn't get it to work correctly due to the cable (pretty sure). Have you had any luck?
I've ordered an OEM Nokia A/V cable that is supposed to have the correct pin-out and the latest cm-11-20160815-NIGHTLY-captivatemtd appears to have the tv out feature.

I am after any help to get my prophets camera video recording (which stutters like crazy and misses most frames) working to an exceptable level.
The basic photo quality from the camera is ok however its just the video recording
For the record, I have tried and tested CoolCamera v1.15 (and previous incarnations/versions) but CoolCamera doesn't work well at all on my Prophet and even the photo side of the software gives a bad image result.
I am currently using a G4 Prophet, ASURG v3.3.13 ROM which is the best out of all of those that I have tried.
So, what I am after is any help / relevant advice or information on what to do to enhance the video capabilities.
I use a fast 4GB MMS card which is NOT the problem as far as I am aware as I have not only tried saving a video recording internally but have also tested various ultra cards from 64mb,250mb right up to a 1gb for saving onto and its just as bad.
I have tried many patches (cab update types from various operators etc)
I have not come across any registry tweaks so am interested to hear if anyone has any they know of.
I have a feeling it maybe something to do with a combination of the relatively low CPU speed of the Prophet and perhaps the seemingly low quality sensor and camera chip? Incidentally, I've also increased and decreased the core clock speed using omapclock software but that makes no difference either.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I use the device for EVERYTHING. Its with me 24hours a day and is used primarily for taking spur of the moment photos for work.
PS: For the record I have also checked 'xda-Dev' and left a post for help to (I haven't found anything relevant to this problem anywhere to be honest which I find strange.)
Surely I am not alone with this problem.
Thanks in advance of any help
Nicholas
I have nothing to say, use these tips for a little improvements
1. Update to Rom 2.20 and over clock to 204 MHz.
2. Use more light in the office.
3. Try 50 Hz flicker adjustment
I'm using now N80 the colors are not as Jamin but much movement for video inside, get on for your office
Thanks anyway....
Thanks but have already tried 2.20 with no difference. I started off with 2.20. Variable flicker adjustments have never made a difference either and I get the same result inside or outside. colors are very vivid and acceptable too. Its just the video recording quality I am looking to fix / better.
Video jumps and stutters during recording (every few seconds) at present to the point that I have to discard every video made on the phone.
Thanks all the same for replying.
I have very good Camera outdoor, in the sunlight, maybe ur device has a problem
well, erm thanks for that.
Cool Camera

A solution for you...
Hi m8,
What you need to do is this:-
1. Flash your phone back to a decent ROM such as the last QTek AKU 2.20 release. (All the other WM6, AKU3+ etc. etc. ROM's you might find are basically CRAP, although Jesterz AKU2.20 ROM is also a keeper in my opinion!!)
2. Then you need to overclock your phone to approx. 234MHz with the "Batterystatus" plugin (A very nice little app. that you should always have on your phone! - Search this Forum to find the app. d/l link!)
3. Unfortunatley, the AKU2.2 Camera Driver cannot handle the aforementioned overclock speed and gives you green pixels all over the screen, so you need to download and install the following older version of the Camera Driver, from here:-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=31808&d=1165275264
4. Soft reset your phone after installing the driver and BINGO, Camera now runs like a charm in both still and in video modes!
I hope this helps... let me know if you need clarification of anything or if for some reason this doesn't work for you!
Cheers, Moz.
Thanks friend.
Thats one of the roms i was using last month. Its stable and reliable but still had problems. As for over clocking I use OMAP overclocking app and add shortcut to startup. I was told not to over clock ever if I want a decent camera result but will try once more. I appreciate your advice. Thanks.
Worse thing happened yesterday...my Prophet speaker died. So I have been told to phone up to arrange a replacement on Wednesday. I didn't know that the Prophet was renowned for having a speaker problem every so often and that many other people had had to get replacements because of this.
Oh well. Will wait till new one arrives and see how good the video is on it.
Thanks again
Hi again,
Sounds like your Prophet experience has been pretty much a mirror image of mine... I think we will ALL get the speaker problem sooner or later... these particular handsets seem rather badly built to me! I simply replaced my failed speaker with one from an old SPV E100 I had lying around, and now the ringtones and sound playback from the unit is awesome - Can't beat the old phones for build qualitt!! (...and I got my Jamin from Ebay for 60 quid so it was easy to take a risk in pulling it apart!!)
As for the fix I described previously, the Omap overclock will work equally well (I just find the Batterystatus app. more flexible). The Jesterz ROM is defo one of the most stable out there and if you want to use your device as a proper business/workhorse mobile phone rather than just a gimicky toy like most of the kids on here, then it (or the proper Qtek AKU 2.20) are the *only* ROMs worth considering.
Your previous advice concerning not overclocking for the Camera is essentially correct, hence the need to downgrade the driver in order to attain the required performance!!
When you get your replacement unit from Orange, I would simply try the Overclock to 234MHz then install the Driver fix I posted on top of whatever standard ROM it comes with... I'm sure you will see the improvement in video you are seeking - it works for me anyway!
(Nice website you have there, by the way... had a quick nosey and just thought I'd say! )
Rgds, Moz.
Cheers Mozzerr
Sound Mozzerr.
Took ALL what you were saying. Am checking new replacement now. Came this morning. I love Orange. I was really peed off at first as insurance had been taken off a year ago without my asking. Could have been an oversight on my part am not quite sure, but it nearly cost me a replacement phone. Was getting VERY worried as first told during two separate calls to two 'O' reps that HTC were going to have to fix the problem and that would be down TO ME!!!! cheek of it.
Anyway. Orange came up trumps in the end so am not here to knock them as they've been more than good to me in the past.
Anyway, am now off to play with the camera and see what gives.
Glad you like the site and thanks
Okay, so ive looked around, havent found much on the matter so i wanted to ask if it is possible to mirror a Windows Phones display on an external display via the MicroUSB port? Similar to the way Microsoft does it in demos/presentations...
There have been reports of this being implemented by Microsoft late last year but i havent seen or heard anything yet...
Anyone have any info?
yeah that's sound good. I wish windows phone would evaluate more and with Nokia on board they could make something like on the Nokia E7 the USB port using. i dont know how the name for that is but they can use usb sticks from Nokia to transfer thing to PC without a phone later. something similar could WP do, with all data on the phone, like a backup stick. where all the save backups are. just in case of error or something to have it handy. and they could manufacture it and i would buy it. it helps a lot. like your tread about TV out. that are small things that help a lot.
But they are still young Mobile OS and there is more room to improve
hope Tango brings this support !!
man...cant wait for Tango or Apollo !! hope they bring more cool and new features just as Mango did !!
MHL (Mobile High-definition Link) sounds promising. What about MicroUSB to RCA? Won't that work?
Hi, so I've been ICS for a while now and I'm currently running Virtuous Infinity 1.35beta. A few days ago I stumbled upon my cable that I used to use when I was on Gingerbread for connecting the MT4GS to the tv. It's a 4 pole jack with a red, white and yellow on the other end. Ever since I came over to ICS, I haven't had much time to play with this, but when I wanted to watch a movie on the tv off my mt4gs, it did not work. The phone tells me something along the lines of "hdmi connected", but the screen on the tv just turns blue and does not show anything. The movie plays on the mt4gs without a problem. I'm posting this because all of the threads I found about similar issues are from 2011 or early 2012, i.e. long before we got the ICS.
Does anyone have any idea of how to get this to work properly? Or is reverting back to Gingerbread the only option of getting this to work?
I bought this phone to last me a while and I'd hate to lose a useful function like this, where you can always essentially have a movie player in your pocket.
Thank you for even the slightest input you can give me on this because I haven't been able to find anything on this issue on xda or google.

I saw the title to this thread in the forum list and it prompted me to find my cable. I'm going to have a few days coming up here where it will come in quite handy and I want to make sure the ROM I'm using is fully functional for my purposes. REALLY ticks me off how this phone seemed to be built only for Sense 3 Gingerbread. I think I'm going to quit supporting HTC over this BS.
So I finally find an ICS ROM that doesn't seem like it's crippled all to hell, and I saw this thread, and decided to try it. So far everything else I've needed seems to work, and I just went 12 hours with only 5% drop in battery (of course not touching the phone -- once I do it's like I lose a percent a minute) so it seems like a pretty decent ROM. But then I plug it into the tv, and just like you, I got "HDMI Connected" in the notebar, a blue screen on the tv (with black interleaved horizontal lines), and no other output. Also, there's no "TV Out" app or any kind of config that I can find.
I'm going to go hunting and if I catch anything I'll bring it back here...

that's probably your best bet. just a warning, i'm pretty sure it drains battery quickly (which i guess kind of makes sense cuz of the name "brute force"). not sure if this is exactly what you're looking for, but it's a start!

Anybody knows if tbalden released the source of this tvoutd binary? Would really love to work on this one if I could get hold of the source.

I don't think he posted/released the source for the tv out app. Try sending him a PM. I'd be interested in helping you with this, if tv out via micro usb is even doable.

Don't confuse tv-out (via 3.5mm 4-conductor phone plug) with MHL (via micro-USB connector/adapter) though...
...and I read in another xda thread that this phone may have the same
MHL chip that another phone had... Was it the sensation?

Sent from my Bulletproof HTC Swiss Army Doubleshot
All the guys who have examined it and worked hard on the subject have stated that it simply is not built in such a way as to do MHL. Blue IIRC was the guy who made the definitive statement.
Hastily spouted for your befuddlement
I tried dissecting the binary to extract as much information as I can have and I noticed that this daemon is hacking up the route of the hdmi to the headset passage and into the usb to the TV. I'm not really good into these technology as I am not even using HDMI lol! So unless there's a source code I can't continue development on this as I don't understand the process of this bruteforce hack.
Ok So I know the phone is fairly new, but had anyone looked Into DEX much?
I remember back in the Motorola Atrix days we found a way to run the web top on a TV without the need for the dock. Is this possible on this device? I think it might take a few cords, but does the Dock do anything special could it be replaced or avoided all together?
Just wanted to see if anyone had looked into it yet and start the conversation.
::Bump::
Bueller...?
Working on it.
ATM there's the Mirabook by Miraxess that seems to work with it but I don't know if they have a partnership or something.

....and by old, I mean, this thing has got to be 6 or 7 years old, now. I lost the charger for a few years, so I didn't use it.
Now, I found the charger, the tablet seems to be charging (I've yet to ascertain if it will hold that charge, but, whatever). I have use for it, to use the HDMI output to connect to a TV, and just generally use around the house for browsing, games, etc.
My problem is that there seems to be absolutely zero support for this thing. The manufacturer hasn't released a single update; I'm stuck on some bastardization of Gingerbread 2.3. I can't find any custom ROMs that support the device. I have no clue what tablet it's a clone of or anything. There was only one result on the forums here, from 2011, and with no responses (unless I missed something).
I don't expect to have the latest-and-greatest, but am curious what may be available out there. I have flashed custom ROMs on phones before, so, am not altogether unfamiliar. And a YouTube video (from 2011/12) had a product rep at some convention who said they are all rooted, so, that's one less headache.
Any help would be much appreciated, even if it's simply to direct me to resources where I can discover what my upgrade options are, at least to find out what version of Android I can use and tools for building my own custom ROM (yes I know it's time-consuming, I probably would just deal w/ Gingerbread at that point).
Thank you!!
