Besides my own (which I keep in an Otterbox Commuter), I've seen 3 people out in the wild with N1s. 1 used it commando, the other 2 used just the included sleeves.
I'd have thought there'd be more protection out there for our beloved N1s.
I've been using the innocase surface since day one and I just recently moved up to the rugged. It's kinda fugly but i'm confident that this thing could stand up to a tank now!
I value the feel of the Nexus One itself. I used to have a big old case for it but I just use the sleeve now. I think people take for granted how useful, protective, convenient, and less bothersome the sleeve really is.
I found the Otterbox case to be too bulky. I found a clear plastic case at T mobile that snaps on the back and almost makes it look like it's commando but still protects.
The sleeve works but is a hassle to use and keep track of. I used it for about 2 months. You wont know how much trouble it is until you try a phone case.
Next I got a hard rubber case (<$5)... it did not offer much drop-protection and the rubber cracked and chipped off in a month.
Next I got a no-label black gel case (<$5) and its the best I've used so far. Excellent drop-protection. Good grip too compared to the above two.

I've had plenty of all sorts of cases. Another main reason I like the sleeve is that it keeps dirt, lint, dust and any other kind of small particle that may be in your pocket or on your desk that can (and does, somehow) get caught in between the case and the phone. I also use a stealth guard clear wrap on it.

Those offer only scratch protection, the screen protector is useful though. $2.85 shipping
I use a gelish case from Boxwave. I like it because it fits well, isn't too big, and will still slide in/out of a pocket unlike the silicone ones. I'm not using a screen protector because I'm afraid it would make the phone difficult to use. So it's always in my pocket alone facing my leg. Not a single scratch on the screen in six months.
the included neoprene case with the awesome Android logo on it is highly under rated... i'm so glad I stuck with it instead of purchasing a gel case or any other - those cases offer nothing in terms of protecting the nexus one from water damage.
case in point, out at a gig the other night - some bozo who was part of a group i went out with spilled half his beer (at leasy 175ml of liquid) directly all over my nexus one. if it wasn't for the neoprene case, it would have been dead for sure! take the phone out of the case, dry as the desert - the neoprene case was soaked (i squeezed out at least 100ml in beer back into the bozos bottle)
it's also pretty good protection against drops - i've dropped my nexus from a height of over a metre at least three times with no adverse damage

Thats a sleeve, not a case.
It does offer a lot of protection but at the cost of unnecessary extra work. You cant see the LEDs, makes it hard to hear the phone's notification/ringer.
Using a Commuter Otterbox. First sexy case I've seen so far for the Nexus. Had it shipped all the way from the US. I live in Malaysia btw. Lol. Must say, worth every cent. Cuz I dropped my phone once and there's a few scratches. Bleh. Sadness much. The case brings back lots of joy. Lol.
I bought a case but I don't like the appearance and feel of it so I took it off. If I pay 700$ for a nice looking phone I don't want to put it into an ugly case. Especially when it has Gorilla Glass 4 on front and back.
What do you guys think?

Yeah I always run cases on my devices since I like to keep them in prestine condition. I never drop my phones. If I do its maybe once a year lol but I still run one to be safe. I usually rock UAG because I can throw the phone around a little more than normal with those cases.
I didn't have a case on my Samsung Moment. I dropped it once and scratched up the side a bit. I put a skin on my HTC Evo Shift. Dropped it once and put a small dent in the plastic. When I got the S4, I decided I should protect it since it was more than I had ever paid for a phone, so I put a case on it. History suggested that I didn't particularly need it, but I'd rather have it and not need it than not have it when I need it. I can't replace my phone if I break it. I also went UAG on my S4 and loved it. I actually did drop the phone many times, but I might have also been less careful since I knew it had a case on it. With the S6, I wanted something maybe even slimmer than the UAG and that maybe could show off the good looks of my phone, so I went with a Spigen Ultra Hybrid.
I got a case that I love from spigen. It's not bulky, it's clear and it protects it from drop. It has that tech 21 rubbery feel.

I always rock cases on my phones. The S6 being glass on the front and back is definitely rocking one. Gorilla glass or not, it's still glass. I use the spigen neo hybrid. It looks classy and provides an adequate amount of protection for very little bulk added.

This is the case I use and it's very bulky and I don't like fake aluminium plastic. And not to mention the 1-2 mm raised lip front. Please dont say plastic looks classy.
I have always used cases to be on the safe side even though I have only dropped my phone once or twice at the most over the years, I will be using a case on my s6 when it arrives but as yet I'm undecided as to which case to get, I've considered the spiden neo hybrid but I have heard that it can reduce signal strength which I don't like the sound of, so I'm still looking for the right one
If you think this case is bulky, I'd hate to see what you'd say about a Otterbox Commuter or Defender series. That 1-2mm lip serves a purpose as drop protection. I don't consider slapping on a thin plastic low profile case as anything but scratch protection. If I'm going to put a case in a phone, it's primarily for drop protection. That being said, I do have the black version so it doesn't look like "cheap plastic aluminum"

I bought the same case. It makes the phone less slippery wich is good. It also makes it slightly bulkier wich is bad. But it does feel protected.
Do you use that horrible back protector? I'm thinking of trying the case without it, hopefully it won't get scratched.
LOL the poll is so loaded. I have a case but I dont drop my phone. I just like keeping it in pristine condition. Having a case doesn't necessarily mean you are careless....

I have that Spigen crystal clear cover and stopped using it after a day. It always looks dirty and ugly, it irritates me too much. I'll keep it for travelling when needed.
Agree with MKBHD's comments in that video posted earlier, I don't like cases generally and may end up getting a skin to stop this being so slippery like he did with his M8

Bulky AF but will protect the phone.
I have an iPhone 5S for work and it slipped out of my pocket and dropped from 2 feet high onto a concrete floor right on its top right corner. Screen turned into a spider web. I have a feeling same thing would happen to the S6. Better safe than sorry!

I do use it but I don't think it's that bad lol. I love the case, it's the best one to still be able to see the design and color of the phone while protecting and not making it too bulky.

My 2 cents. Buy a cheap TPU case to use when you first get your phone. First, it takes time for your hands to get used to the shape of a new phone and your risk of dropping the phone is greatest during this period. Second, you will be playing with your new phone more often than you would normally, and increasing the risk of a drop. Third, your anxiety levels when going naked with your brand new and very expensive phone will counterbalance the enjoyment of having a naked phone.
After about a month, get rid of the cheap case and enjoy the phone naked, knowing that if you scratch it or drop it, you now have a reason to buy the next phone on the horizon....
I use the Spigen slim hard case (back cover) but now I cant get the damn thing off the phone. I feel like I'm going to break the phone removing it

On this phone, the glass back terrifies me. So basically I want something that will cover it up. I have the outerbox commuter on it now. I hate the defender series. I know that back will break from something small and stupid. Now my HTC phone I came from, never used a case on it. I dropped that phone plenty in 2 years with no problem.
I prefer skins. The aluminum frame can easily scratch, and the screen and back get micro-scratches apparent under sun or bright light, despite GG4. However, it only takes one drop for phone to get a significant damage on the phone.
To compromise, I use Spigen ultra thin (which is extremely thin, but I know it can withstand small accidental drops) for everyday use. At work or camping trips, I use otterbox to protect it.
Mind you, the back glass of the phone is relatively easy and cheap to replace. Dents in frame or damage to the screen is rather costly and difficult.

When it comes to thin cases, Spigen does seem like a popular choice but if only it doesn't collect dust like crazy....

The Otterbox does a good job of covering the charger port and headphone jack. The rest of the holes in the case also collect a good amount of dust.

I'm using spigen liquid crystal for my daily carry. Offers enough protection "in case" i accidentally drop it; and it's thin enough that I feel comfortable. But it's high maintenance, as it collects lints and dust in the back.
Would MUCH prefer skins.. but one accidental drop will quickly make me regret it.
Frankly speaking the cracked back of my s6 doesn't bother me. Put a cheap protector on the back to hold it together and then it's covered by my beautiful Neo hybrid case which is very slim! I hate bulky cases... It's quite funny, but most of my friends use Sony Z devices and all have cracked backs and they use them without a case!

If you're in US, Best skins ever tends to be good, and cheap; albeit no warranty, so if you peel it off, you have to buy a complete new set. As for durability, it's quite good.
Ghost armor is another option, which tends to be on the more expensive side, but includes "limited" warranty. I say limited because it'll cost you around $3-5 to get "life time warranty". Don't get fooled for their lifetime warranty replacement lies.
If you're in Canada, dBrandz skins are quite good. Cost is fair, but top notch customer service. Ghost armor is in Canada as well, but it's crap. They'll charge you $15 to replace skins under their "lifetime replacement warranty".
Stay away from zagg. Their skins have texture like orange peel, and they're quite expensive.

Okay so I am sure a lot of you have received Galaxy Note 7 by now as I am. (T-Mobile user) I would like to update on the case I have with this beast with pictures and hopefully help some of you out there looking for a good case.
I think the blue coral color on this case is beautiful!
Poetic brought their famous Affinity series case for Note 7 in a perfect time for the phone's release and they came back with near-perfect case. Well, the word perfect is very subjective, but if you are like me who is always looking for light, thin, see-through material (to show off the Blue Coral color of my Note 7), sturdy and protecting four corners of the phone, you will absolutely love this. And plus, this time, they fixed two imperfections that I have talked about for a while on this case and I will mention them in the end.
Look - Superb
Honestly, I do not like thick cases where you can't appreciate the thinness of your phone for the sake of phone's protection. To me, phone's design is very important as I have with me all the time and I hate to see the beautiful designs (ex. Galaxy Note series, Iphone series...) to be later covered by ugly bulky cases once you have it. Affinity case makes their case cover very unique and they do it with high quality material. As you can see from the pictures, most of cases are see-through polycarbonate material where you can still enjoy your phone's natural color. From the four corners, they connect each corners with soft shock-proof TPU material that will cover the back of the phone very minimally and with unique pattern that they call X-FORM. I also like their logo with silver color in the middle of back.
Protection - Excellent
Like mentioned above, they covered the four corners with X-FORM soft shock-proof TPU material that feels VERY sturdy. If you think of cheap chinese import TPU material, you will have to see/touch to feel difference. Once you feel/touch it, you won't worry about four corners anymore. Also, TPU material (including strips around back and corners) are scratch proof so you wont see ugly scratches. Most of back is polycarbonate, which is plastic. First, I worried about the back portion being easily scratched due to the nature of its material, but I found out that is not the case. The strips that run through back of the case are actually RAISED so it doesn't get scratched much just like most cases front sides are raised to prevent any normal wear-tear scratches from everyday living.
However, if you happen to carry your phone in an enviornment where lots of sharp materials flying around your phone, you may be better off going with more less-plastic, rigid material of other Poetic product line.
Added feature - Superb
As you can see with my pictures, this case has anti-slip side grip on each sides and this gives me such a relief. I tend to drop phone quite often and not only I need a case with good protection, but also this kind of added feature that will help me not to drop as much. Also rugged TPU strips on the back and corners help a lot as well.
Holes/Cuts - Superb
Their holes/Cuts/Buttons' positions are perfect and I cannot say any better than that. One of the imperfection this case had in the past was a little hard buttons. To me, it seemed like it requires a bit more pressure to press buttons and it was discomfort in the beginning. (You get used to it soon so it doesn't bother much later) However, they fixed it this time and it is breeze and actually fun to press them. They listened to their customers and that is a rare thing in the market. I love it!!!
Taking off the case - Awesome
Last imperfection I probably thought it would have been very hard for any owners with battery changeable phones was taking off the case. I departed from the phones with battery changeable ability a while ago so I did not have to take it off that often so it wasn't a big issue, but nevertheless, when I do need to take it off, it wasn't a pleasant experience. It was too tight to prevent any fall off from dropping your phone.
However, they fixed it, and they did it perfectly. Now, you don't have to put much pressure to take it off one corner to the other. A little bit of force and it comes off easily. It is very good that it holds the phone steadily with you worrying about it falling off on its own, but when it needs to be taken off, it does VERY easily. I seriously recommend to anyone who is looking for a case with thin, see-through, protective, good design and good features, look no further, this is the case for you.

I'd held off on pre-ordering this case for the latter,as on the HTC 10,this case was extremely difficult to remove,to the point where you could damage the phone if you're not paying attention,either by bending the phone,cracking the display,or,damaging the camera lens while gripping for case removal.
It was so bad that I actually made relief cuts on each corner,on the diagonal,to facilitate ease of removal.
This in no way compromised the snugness of the case,so,I suspected a design/engineering change was in-store for future versions of the Affinity case.
Glad to hear the changes were made,I just ordered a Clear/Black version for my Black Onyx Note 7.

I feel you 100% as I had HTC 10 with this case as well as LG G5 and it was pain to take it off, especially on HTC 10 as you mentioned. But, it is a night and day difference now.
Is this available for purchase yet? Only place I'm seeing it available is ebay and I'm not sure if those are third party knockoffs or not.

I can assure you, the ones on eBay aren't going to be knockoffs. The design is too intricate to bother with imitating & risking the backlash from buyers. The volume of sales isn't gonna be high enough to warrant anyone to make a knockoff.
Besides, you're protected against fraud/etc. by eBay &/or PayPal.
If you're still not convinced, you can purchase direct from Poetic or go to Amazon.
I've got the same case although my phone hasn't arrived. It's ok imo, the black plastic design on the back protrudes and trends to not feel great in my palm imo but if you don't mind that I guess it's a nice thin case. Well probably rock this until I get a replacement

The Poetic Affinity Case for the Note 7 is everything you described/stated in the OP of this thread,so much that I almost regret buying the OEM Samsung Leather Case.
Both have a great feel/look/functionality,but the Poetic shows off the phones good looks & the clear w/black trim on Onyx Black looks as if it shipped from the factory w/the design,akin to a Note7 Active,if you will.
A strong recommend here & @ $7.95 shipped on e-Bay,it's an inexpensive case to add to your rotation.
When I started using this device, I held it in a Cimo Grip TPU casing basically from day one, and while it doesn't look that great, it does add some badly needed grip on the edges. The other day, I had to remove the sim card, which required taking the TPU casing off, and while doing so, I realized that the Pure Edition looks a lot better without it. From here, I got to thinking - is this casing really necessary?
To answer that question, I set out on a seven day journey of daily life to find out by using the Moto X Pure Edition with no casing at all whatsoever. What I found is that it actually is somewhat functional without the TPU, (at least more so than other phones) but with some caveats. For propping/leaning the device up against plates and dishes for consuming multimedia in the kitchen, the rubber backing material actually offers just enough grip for this to work, as long as the angle is far enough back (too step up-and-down, and it'll slide down a bit). Beyond that, it also works pretty well for operating the device in one hand while sitting, standing, or walking around. In fact, the only situations that left me wishing for the TPU were when the device needed to be propped up at a steeper angle or when I was holding it by only the slick metal edges to take pictures or watch videos laying down. Also, the buttons are far too easy to activate accidentally.
So, after this strange experiment, will I go back to using the TPU? Probably. But maybe not all the time. The Pure Edition is actually more grippable than I originally gave it credit for. Also, I don't have to contend with the massive lip on the left and right edges of the screen that make it difficult to make selections there. I'm not sure how casings affect heat dissipation or wireless reception, but that could potentially be another reason to scale back on those types of accessories. I have considered switching to one of those "bumper" frame-only casings, (such as the Case-Mate Tough Frame) which solves the grip problem on the perimeter of the device while still leaving the back exposed, but I can't seem to be able to find one of those to purchase anywhere. Does anybody have any thoughts on those or know where to find one?
With that, what does everyone else think? Do you use your Pure Edition "naked" or do you use some kind of casing or bumper? If you do use casing, would you consider trying the 7-day Naked Phone Challenge?

I just wanna warn that you should be extra careful with a naked MXPE
it has a very beautiful design and the material is fantastic, no doubt in that. but when i got my mxpe last year, i was using it without any protection, not even the provided bumper (as i always prefer my phones)
one week later i was sitting on the ground with my phone in my pocket, as i stood up, it dropped down from a height of no more than 20cm, and the screen shattered as it fell down on its metal side
since then ive been using bumpers with mxpe, it's a delicate phone
I like my moto x the way I like my women. NAKED!!
I used the original bumper until it broke and I've been naked ever since.

While I like the phone and how it handles naked, I just don't trust it taking a fall off any height without a case. I still have the original bumper case but have never used it because it is seemingly made with brittle plastic. Of course I opted for the plain silicone backing so I really don't have any special back to show off. I'm more interested in OS function over cosmetic visibility so while the phone feels nice naked, I prefer not to have to replace the screen due to an accident.
Naked Phone Challenge 2017 Conclusion
Thanks for the thoughts everybody. After my week-long excursion of using the Pure Edition without "protection ," I went back to the Cimo TPU, but also kept my eyes open for alternatives. I was really hoping to find a "bumper" style TPU, like the Case-Mate Tough Frame, but was unable to locate one anywhere. This transparent TPU found on eBay seems to be the next best thing. It's much thinner than the Cimo and also doesn't have such a massive lip up on the edges of the screen, which makes it great for use without a screen protector. My only complaints are that the camera hole isn't perfectly lined up vertically and that it's really easy to see any dust that gets trapped.
Still, it provides the grip I need along with a pleasing aesthetic without making the phone any bigger than it needs to be, so I think this might just be a good compromise. Time will tell if it stays clear or becomes yellow.
For about a year, I kept my Moto X Style completely caseless. I dropped it several times too, and even though it looks a bit banged up and scratched on the edges, the rest of the phone and screen are fine. I just got a TPU case for it recently because I didn't want to push my luck. I do prefer it naked though

Same here .. I have case I use occasionally.
Been using the phone naked for over 1.5 years. What's the use of having a good looking phone just to cover it up with some ugly case. People need to be careful when handling phones as they are so fragile.

That's a good point. The number of people who break their phones, even these modern ultra-durable machines, is absolutely staggering. If they can't hold on to them, then a grippy TPU is essential. Or perhaps we've just uncovered the conspiracy behind the poor grip inherent in so many newer devices that still manage to garner praise from both the pundits and the peanut gallery.

I used that bumper initially for a week and then threw it away. Since then its all naked and survived a few drops.
Using a phone naked is a way of paying respect to whoever designed it. What's the point of somebody designing a phone if its design will get covered by an ugly case?
Plus, Motorola thought about providing a bumper plastic protector -- it really worked for a while, until it broke apart.
One a jerk side note: people who cannot take care of something expensive should not spend money on that expensive thing. I always laugh at people who carry their iPhones with ugly cases; they don't deserve it due to their lack of attention.
1) Moto X pure as my main driver: everything stock
2) second-hand OnePlus 2 (PureNexus) as a backup
3) Moto 2015; later gifted to my father.

While I can see your point, I can also see the other side of the fence. I didn't buy this phone because of the physical aesthetics, buy rather for the specs at the price range offered. I didn't spend extra money for the wood or leather backing. And given that accidents can happen, i have a protective case. And there were bumper cases at one point which allowed for the looks of the phone to show through to some degree while offering protection.

I agree with that as well to some degree, but more so for people who actually break their devices as a direct result of carelessness. As far as I'm concerned, they (in some ways) deserve a broken phone to help reinforce that lesson.

This is also fair. I too have been looking for the elusive CaseMate Tough Frame, (the only grippy "bumper" available for the Pure Edition as far as I know) and nobody seems to have it in stock anymore. These days, I rotate between the black Cimo Grip TPU, the eBay Special transparent grip TPU, and nothing at all. Two of those let the aesthetic of the device shine through, but the very act of switching seems to freshen things up enough to keep the phone interesting.

I prefer a quicksand finish back case (for the extra grip only) .
