Reliable online source to determine latest official Android release for phones? - General Topics

This is more for a pet project I am currently working on which is a spreadsheet of nearly every smartphone on the market (300+ so far) that includes prices, specs and review scores for each phone.
I'd post a link but XDA doesn't seem to like it. Just check on /r/pickanandroidforme for "Complete Mobile Device Guide".
I currently have a field for each phone that is listed as "Android Version" and I simply put down what information I can gather from phonearena.com or gsmarena.com. This is usually the "base" version of Android available from the factory. This is my problem as I'd really like to be able to list the CURRENT available version of android for a given phone.
Is there a reliable database, repo or other resource online that lists the latest available Android versions for every phone (or at least a lot of phones)?

more importantly, latest build for your device. latest build for android isnt important, if your device manufacturer hasnt put it out for your device. btw, android is on android 7.0 right now, 7.1 soon.

That is more what I was referring to. whatever is the latest available build for a given device.

[Q] Android 3.0 Honeycomb Kernel

can someone explain to me if you were to find the android 3.0-3.2 firmware and or source code files that are used on a tablet (obviously itd be a honeycomb os), with the source code file could work on porting a honeycomb rom be attempted ? or is the firmware/source code im speaking of incorrect of whats needed in rom development. I found an article and have downloaded what was both labeled source code (there were versions used by manufacturer for android 3.0 -3.2) i downloaded the 3.0 version of the "source code" and i also downloaded a matching version of the firmware for android 3.0 used by manufacturer. just looking for more insight before i start posting links or anything, want to make sure I'm giving accurate information .

Given that Google has not officially released the source code, you'd be posting warez which is against forum rules. Once Google officially releases source, devs could try to port it to the G2x but with ICS so close to being released/announced, I bet most people would wait for that since it officially supports smaller and lower resolution screens like the ones in phones.
Your correct google has not but other manufactures of tablets using honeycomb have. Following the general public license released the source code which has been made aware of to google by said manufacture. The source code as well as firm ware is readily available without by passing anytype of payment or "pirating" . So how would this be considered warez?
I was under the impression that they only released their specific bits of code and not the entire source code. I may be wrong, this isn't something I've been watching closely.
I don't think Honeycomb has been released yet. All custom roms are stock based. We have OC/UV kernels but the roms are just slight variants of stock.

Maybe i misread something , but if you google something along the lines of asus honeycomb source code, you'll find a link to asustek which has said source code for various versions of honeycomb , ie 3.0-3.2 don't quote me on it being 100% being what people are looking for just something i stumbled across

Compiling Android for a Device without sources (Zenithink Tablet)

Hey, so last year I bought a China-Tablet called Zenithink C91, it seemed like a good choice back then.
However, the software on it is rubbish. The manufacturer didn't even bother to change anything from the reference software for the hardware platform, did no optimization whatsoever. For example the build.prop is a complete mess with dozens of duplicate lines and references to the reference platform from AMlogic. All the stock firmwares have phone functionality enabled, even though there is no gsm module, showing an empty signal indicator all the time. Or the shipped ICS with gingerbread gapps and so on. The Tablet is just not usable in this state because the software sucks so much, and they do not answer any questions or take advice. Therefore, no sources.
However, I think the Tablet could be much more useful, because it has a decent cortex a9 processor which runs at 1ghz, and a mali 300 gpu.
So much for the situation.
So for a long time I thought about trying to compile a new rom for it, to make it actually work like it should, but I cant find any advice which would help me, because all tutorials that I find require me to use devtrees for devices that already exist. But how would I go to create Android for a device which has none?. I could probably extract most drivers from the latest ICS build. How compatible are they with JB?
On a side note, I wanted trying to Port CWM recovery, does anyone have a pointer where to start?
Thanks and I hope I did not post in the wrong section.
I actually think that there is a source available for your tablet. Check out Slatedroid, as it's a forum dedicated to chinese tablets.
The problem atm is the new version of the amlogic's platform for which they haven't released sources yet.
Oh, and tutorial for Clockwork recovery:

Thanks for your reply, especially for the link concerning cwm.
I am aware of the slatedroid forum, and a user there, too. Zenithink did not publish any sources, I am very sure sadly.

Zenithink maybe didn't, but you can find amlogic sources (the chip/platform manufacturer) here:
http://openlinux.amlogic.com/wiki/index.php/Arm/Android/2.Getting_the_Source_Code
edit: that is if they are using that as a platform ofc, if they're not well from what I see on slate you're limited to modifying stock roms, same as we on elf/aurora ii devices
Yeah, the stock sources are there, but ZT modified them and does not release the changes. No chance then, I guess? Anybody know if there is a chance for JB based on the ICS rom?

List of Android Devices with Kernel Version greater than 3.11

I am trying to run a program which require at least kernel version of 3.11 and so far now I cannot find any android phone devices which fullfil this requirement. Furthermore I need a list of devices for which cyanogenmod official/unofficial is available alongwith kernel source code. I would really appreciated the developers on this forum to put those devices.
Thanks alot.....

ROMS for android version beyond 6.0

Hello all,
I have an old ascend mate 7 that a friend gave to me. I was wondering, are there any ROMs (custom or official) for the smartphone that contains an android version beyond 6.0?
I have the mate 7 MT7-TL10.
Thank you
Ok, so I am thinking that I will attempt to compile a version of Android that is above 6.0. However, I do have some questions:
I have already downloaded the source code. I am about to build the source for the Ascend Mate 7. Then, I found out that I might need to know the Device tree? There seems to be some conflicting information regarding this. Using google's guide, all I need to know is the code name for the device and there we go. We can compile the source! (Woot!)
On the other hand, other guides state that I need to download the device identity such as the tree, vendor, and kernel and include this in the source. (See this guide on xda website: https://forum.xda-developers.com/che...pment-t2814763) In another guide, I need to setup the jack server? (https://www.digitalocean.com/communi...n-ubuntu-16-04)
So which is it? Should I just follow Google's guide or do I really need to know the device identity? If the latter, How do I search for the device tree, vendor, and kernel? More importantly, what are these and how do they work in relation to the Android source?
Also, I believe I will need manufacturer drivers for my phone to operate the peripherals. How do I download this? This might be a stretch but can't I get those files from the Mate 7?

why is it that in lineage os there is very large and frequent updates?

THANKS

Because they usually build and release new versions each day because they are always patching and optimizing the code or adding new features, they are typically called "nightly builds" or "nightlies". Once the nightly build passes testing phase it is released as a RC(respective candidate) build or Official ROM once they reach a certain critical point of development. Since it is a continous daily process of building, testing and releasing and since there is always a build in each stage of development each day, there is always a new tested nightly or RC build being released from the last stage of development almost daily.
cool
do you know when lineage os with the next version of android needs to be released?

Here at XDA, a lot of times, newer versions of android are available to the developers here before it is released to the public and the community here gets a taste of ROMs made from the new versions before everyone else in the world does. When this happens depends on when Google decides to release beta releases of the new versions. It is more a matter of what and when Google does things than it is a matter of when and what XDA does.
