Hey guys I think my GS5 900I is stuffed. Battery was knocked out during factory reset, now I can't reboot it to turn usb debugging on, I have tried a number of roms through odin and android toolbox including cwm, philz, twrp, and stock. It won't take me past the samsung screen. Please help. I have tried adb sideload but not sure if I've done it right or used the correct zip file.
Can u give us more details , as there is many variants for s5 , & in ur title its says 900i & in ur post s5 ??? , please give us more details , ..
All i can say it its try to flash odin fw with pit file or at least tick a nand erase All with flashing fw ok

Hey mate cheers for the response. What do you mean by "fw"? Where can I find the correct pit file?
Other than that I have just done a factory reset, flashed a stock recovery with Odin, and have Odin set up ready to go with "Nand erase all" ticked, "auto re boot" unticked, until further notice.
Thanks
Fw means firmware for your S5 , pit file , u can get it from S5 forum , as i can't link to u correct pit threads but u can find it there ok , nand erase All need full firmware that flashed from AP or pda from odin ok ..
Thank you for using XDA Assist,,

there are differences between s5830/s5830i
find a rom for s5830i only
check from fastboot if your phone is unlocked (S-off)
(maybe you try to flash a rom that requires S-off ??)
Code:
fastboot oem status
fastboot oem unlock
do you have a nandroid backup? it can help you to revert to stock rom
you should have one always do a backup before make changes !!

maybe this thread can help you
this ROM seems to be a good one for you phone
-in Windows7/Vista open Odin as administrator
-try other version of Odin
-try to enable "re-partition"
-never use ROM Manager this can destroy your phone
-never use a ROM made for s5830 (you have s5830i)

Man I like your last answer you solved your problem ! Good job !
I like to contribute solving problems because I hate problems
I have had an Android phone made a custom ROM
and.. destroyed the phone with overclocking ...
now I have to buy another phone and Galaxy Ace/ Nexus is an option
Galaxy Ace is a good phone but there are problems when flashing so be careful when flashing again!
there are options to play with when flashing like check re-partition or use correct version of Odin
and sammobile.com is best site to check when having troubles !
Hello All,
My N8020 is now semi brick after trying to flash it back to stock. It was on custom rom before but showing different errors so i decided to change the rom...First i tried to install another custom rom which was cynogenmod 10 but after intstalling this rom from cwm phone stuck at cynogenmod startup logo i waited for long time but still nothing. Then tried different versions of cynogen roms but same...After all this i decided to install a official rom so i flashed this with
N8020XXBMA3_N8020XSABMA2_N8020XXBMA1_HOME.tar
but now the real problem started..Now i can boot phone in download mode but not in recovery mode at all...Then i tried to flash a cwm via odin and get "PASS" messege in odin but still no recovery mode...Tried to flash to flash clockwork recovery several time but nothing changed and then i check in download mode the custom flash counter increase every time i try to flash cwm...then i searched the stock recovery for 8020 but when i try to flash it via odin i always get "FAIL"...
Now i m out of ideas and searching for a real solution....SO can anybody please tell me what to do next to get it back to life???
Regards,
Muneeb

Thanks for reply but can u please tell me from where i get n8020 twrp?i only able to find N8000 to N8013 but cant find for N8020....
You are correct, I can't find for n8020 either.
http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/p4noterf
Try to flash cwm again. Don't check auto reboot in odin. When finished flashing cwm, press power+volume up, when samsung or whatever appears on screen release power but keep presing volume up until cwm loads.
Let me know if you have any luck.

I would start all over from scratch to ensure the files you used were for your device.
THIS IS THE AUTO ROOT PACKAGE FOR AN N8020. UNZIP THE FILE & FLASH VIA ODIN
THIS IS CWM RECOVERY FOR N8020. FLASH VIA ODIN
THIS IS TWRP RECOVERY FOR N8000 WHICH IS WHAT YOU WOULD USE. FLASH VIA ODIN
Its possible at this point you might need to run a pit file. Nand erase as well. Read into them before EVER attempting.

Hello,
I have tried these two already "CF-Auto_root" and "N8020-CWM-6.0.2.8-Darkman.tar.md5" but still same..But now my question is will N8000 twrp recovery work on N8020?
Pit yes it can be the solution but its bit risky isn't it?

Yes N8000 is the twrp recovery for N8020. Yes pit is risky but if you read into how to do it and follow it you will be just fine. Sometimes a device may require running NAND Erase also (meaning checking the box in odin). The biggest problem with pit file is people not knowing and just running it as if they were getting a custom ROM.

Thanks for ur time!
I didn't find a working pit for my n 8010. Don't worry too much about the binary counter, mine was 118 today, I reset it with triangle away. I don't have the balls to do a nand erase on mine, I'm not even sure that is required for my problem, at least mine is working.

Yes, dont check auto boot though leave that unchecked and if it passes reboot to recovery and do a data wipe then reboot. If you run into error add your pit file to the pit window along with your stock tar.md5 file and run it just as I mentioned before with repartition selected
Make sure the pit file you use is for your device model/storage size

Sadly/ logically this forum is nearly dead .
So anytime I try to flash the 6.0.1 firmware, odin always fails at 'hidden.img'. I can confirm it is the correct firmware for my phone.
I've tried the method of flashing hidding.img.tar and then modem.bin, but still no luck (Just sticks my phone onto the thing that tells me to use emergency function on smart switch)
(I can always get my phone working again as it is working now, but I am dying to get up to 6.0.1 asap so any help would be appreciated)
Cheers

Odin is the only way.
Try these troubleshooting steps for a failed Odin flash.

Odin can still flash the device while in the "encountered an issue, connect to Kies" screen.

There should be a 3 letter code that represents the country/region/carrier for each firmware version.
Find the newest version for your model number that matches your country/region/mobile carrier.

I usually recommend a version of Odin that was released shortly after the device was released because those versions were updated to be compatible with the device, whereas newer versions of Odin are less compatible with devices that were released a year or more before it.

The custom ROM that you tried to flash, was it for your model number? Or was it for a different device?
Try different USB ports, try a different PC, try a different cord.
If all else fails, try finding a copy of your device's PIT file and flash that in Odin along with the stock firmware. Place the firmware where it goes then place the PIT in the pit tab in odin, make sure the "re-partition" option is checked in Odin then start.

Hello, This could be kind of weird but
Download the Unified Android tool kit
Do a copy of the frimware you want to flash
remove the .md5 extension from the file name of the new file
the image file should now transfer into a zip file
extract it in the Unified Android tool kit INPUT folder
Run the ToolKit
it will do an update check
now type 99 and press enter
a list of choices will appear choose the " create tar files from image files" it's maybe number 8 as i remember
now choose to make a separate tar files of each image file
once done , the tar files will be placed in the OUTPUT folder
try to flash System tar file alone without the other partitions.
