Hi Everyone,
I did a stupid thing and flashed my head unit with a 4.4.4 rom.
I can no longer get into recovery unless I use sd_Firmware tool. sd_Firmware tools doesn't restore the image though.
I am trying to use RK Batchtools to reimage the device but I cannot get the head unit to show up in device manager.
Am I correct in using any of the 2 USB leads that come out of the back of the head unit (normally used for 3g adapter or USB thumb drive) with a A to A USB cable to join to the laptop?
Is there any button pressing process required for it to connect to the laptop?
Many many thanks in advance. So angry with myself.

OK Success, my head unit is back up and running.
I believe (somebody please correct me if i'm wrong) that the issue lies in the MCU.
I used sd_Firmware tool to generate a bootable SD card. This on it's own should've been enough to flash the device but mine would fail with an error asking to remove the SD card. Once you remove the SD card you're presented with a recovery menu.
Have a USB stick with ONLY the mcu img file, select restore from USB + wipe. This will re-apply the MCU file.
One that is done, the device will reboot but will not post. Restart the device using the boot SD card once again to repeat the process but replace your MCU file with your dupdate.img file.
This should get your device bootable again. Don't forget to load the recovery menu from the device and select the wipe data + cache option.
Let me know how you go
Thanks, i'm going to try.
I still used sd_firmware tool, but the sw doesn't recognize my sd card (Windows is ok, recognize it)...
I Can put my unit in recovery mode

run SD firmware tool "as administrator" if you cannot see the tool.
Are you saying you can enter recovery mode without the use of a bootable SD card? Because if that's the case, we do not share the same issue.
We have not the same issue, i know.
After using Malaysk rom, my unit doesn't boot anymore, I entered in recovery mode and trying to update original rom but i receive an errore like this "device block required"
EDIT: I DID IT!!!!!!! Using your method (first MCU and then ROM), I recovered my hed unit... Thanks so much.... GREAAAAATTTTTT

Can you please tell me what you put onto your drive to make it "bootable" ?
Did you put the MCU file onto the drive or the firmware ?
My HU does nothing its just black screen
Thank You !!
You have to put firmware file (much greater file), then put the sd into gps slot and at least turn on your head unit and wait

The SD card is just to boot the device, flash the MCU from a usb flash drive.
You do have to create the SD card using the update.img file though. Get one from the "Factory images" thread.
Factory images thread ? I haven't seen this got a link ?
Thank You !

I was able to successfully flash an MCU using your USB method. Now to flash the rom image do I select restore from UBS + Clear all or just restore from USB in recovery? What's the difference?
Also, what does the 'upgrade' checkbox on the sd_firmware tool do vs. just drag and dropping the image file in windows? This piece of software is perplexing to me. Is its main function to create disks (cards or sticks) that will flash a device w\o having to go through recovery?

I believe you can upgrade and keep your settings etc if you're going from one version to the bump up.
If you're going from major version diferences (or recovering from a big fault) it would be best to do the clear all (same as factory reset).
If you have flashed your MCU successfully, you may find you can use the unit's recovery and not the "bootable sd card"

I wouldn't worry too much about the sd_firmware tool settings, simply use it as a boot disk to get into recovery then use recovery to reflash the device (As you have done with your MCU file)
Yes that's correct, flashing a device without using it's own recovery. I believe it's for band new units that has never had software (recovery) flashed?

Hi,
does anybody know why I get this error in the SD Firmware Tool, every time when I tick "SD Boot"? My device is bricked and it doesn't enter recovery mode. Therefore I tried this tool, as I don't have a USB A-A. Creating the firmware SD without ticking "SD Boot" works fine, but trying to make it bootable gives me this error. Tried with 3 versions of the firmware for my device. Started the tool as an administrator, on a win7.
Thx in advance!

Guy's,
Finally you can flash any rom to your device without help from the 2nd device. I believe it's a great news for them who is suffering from the broken USB connecor.
It's tested on my G3 device with my latest ROM's and other should work without problem.
Procedure:
1. Download the tool and unrar somewhere in your pc.
2. Decode the rom image (nk.nbf) using HTC64 tool and put it (nk.nba) under the "SD_Flash" directory.
3. Run the "SDFlash_G3.cmd" and follow instruction on the screen.
Please note, it's limited to G3 device only and I may add support for G4 device in future.
SD-ROM image tool:
http://vidmes.com/Uni/ROMs/Tomal/Tools/Ranju_SD_Flash.rar
!! IMPORTANT: Do it at your own risk. I'll not take any responsibility if you damage your device. !!
Cheers
Great stuff.
I especially look forward to a G4 release.
My USB commector broke off the circuit board recently and was floating about inside the device for a while before I opened up the device and glued it back in position onto the circuitboard. It now works (the 5 little pins are connected) so I can charge the battery through it, but I don't really trust it to flash a firmware through.
Thankfully I'm already on the ROM I usually go back to (latest T-Mobile WM5) after playing around with WM6 and WM6.1.
Nice to see developments being made for those of us with handicapped uni's!!!
Thanks a ton, Ranju !
Have already downloaded and unpacked it. I'll certainly give it a try as soon as you release your v7.7 ROM.
Cheers!

Dear Ranju,
You keep on surprising us!
Thanks friend,
Mohamed
Ranju, as usual, you are the man!
I experienced the "direct flash" on a Mio A701 and it's really a great feature. Now I can't ask you anything more... ehm...
..
... I was kidding I'd like only the new build of your rom eheh
thanks!!!
Thank you ranju for this great tool, so I can flash WM6.1 on my MDA Pro with broken miniUSB!

I tried to flash using bluetooth (yeah, I was stupid) and since then it's hanging in bootloader mode.
The mini-USB connector broke before (that's why I was using BT) and now I finally thought I had a solution to get it working again.
However, when I follow your steps and reset (backlight + power + reset) it doesn't even seem to look at the SD-card; it just shows serial + v1.00 again.
Any ideas?
In SDimage it get's to only 3,21%, but's that's normal on a 2 gig card I presume?

I just edited my post .
I used another card and that got only to 3,21% or something (2gig card) so I presumed that's normal because of the image size?

Yes, it's normal.
Did you inserted the card to device before entering to bootloader?
Read and follow all the instructions carefully in the .cmd file.
For more info, read Htc Service manual of Universal.

I shall tell about all the steps I took:
1. Download the tool and unrar somewhere in your pc.
- Easy.
2. Decode the rom image (nk.nbf) using HTC64 tool and put it (nk.nba) under the "SD_Flash" directory.
- I took your(?) "Ranju_v76_WM61_19209_19209_1_0_2", unrarred it and decoded it to nk.nba.
3. Run the "SDFlash_G3.cmd" and follow instruction on the screen.
g3.bin and nk_sd_g3.bin are created.
After that, I put in my Dane-Elec 2 gig SD-card and format it to FAT32.
SDimage is opened and I select the FAT32 F: drive.
After that I push the "Import SD Image" button.
Fill in "i agree", click "ok" and "yes" (with "hex" unchecked).
There I choose bin files and select "nk_sd_g3."
I then click "Ignore", "yes" and "ignore" and it's starts writing.
At 3,21% I get the dump incomplete notification and click ok.
I then put the card in my Universal, press the light and power button and the reset pin.
For a second or so the v1.00 disapears and it comes back without doing/checking/reading anything.
I'm quit sure the SD-card should work because before I flashed using BT, it worked and I tested the same procedure with another card.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong or why the Universal doesn't even seem to look for the SD-card?

Yup, same problem here! I tried with a 512MB Toshiba SD card, previously formatted both to FAT(16) and FAT32. SDImage.exe runs up to 12.91% (FAT) or 12.93% (FAT32), with such card capacity. Same results: my Exec just sits there in booloader mode forever...
Cheers!
Carlos
all the steps are correct .
I'm sure root cause is under the header (g3.bin). it's a mmc header and I suppose there is a difference between sd & mmc header. I'll verify once I can arrange a sd card. alternatively someone can try it using a mmc card so that I can reach to a conclusion.
Hi ranju,
Uploading my MMC header for comparison purposes.
I'm also looking for SD header, g3/g4 both the devices for analysis.
So does this work with a G4? or has it not been tested?

There are already many threads on this but at least this one is in the right section
first thing you need to know is your model number. It should be B30,B40 ect if it is above B70 you are out of luck. if it is below B70 then download franc's tools an NVFlashable rom of your choice and the ubuntu.img. extract francs tools to your desktop, extract the nvflashable rom to the same folder and put the ubuntu.img in the same folder

unzip franks tools to desktop or documents or w/e then extract both the ubuntu.img.gz to get the ubuntu.img and the nvflashable revolver rom and put the system, boot and recovery IMG files into the franks tools folder. then run frankc123.exe
Put our tablet in apx mode (i assume you know how because you said you rooted with it) then plug it in and on the dual boot page of frankc123.exe hit install. it may take up to half an hour. then to boot into andorid just boot normally. to boot into ubuntu do what you would normally do to get into recovery

Your external sd will not be touched but make sure your backups are on it and not your internal sd. you mght want to take out your micro before you start
Yes recovery will send you to ubuntu, No you cannot flash updates as usual as ubuntu takes over the recovery partition but you can do them manually with android commander or adb. that might cause issues though and is not suggested.
As long as there is a version compiled for ARM then yes

Ok.
So in the end how can I revert to my actual situation with CMW recovery and revolver rom?
I think the procedure to install update and files for modding became quite complicated...
Usually after revolver i flash panda test kernel, hc stock fonts and oc daemon.
I think became hard to implement these mods with adb. No?
However tomorrow or at least day after tomorrow I'll try your guide and report my experience!
Thanks!

If you can use a Linux, use Olife from the thread "ubunto on emmc" in dev or Q/A section

I have a lot of time searching for the soft keyboard answer. I cannot find any. I started a Q&A thread, but there are no response. I think the answer is a No.
You can install Ubuntu from within Android (CHRooting)..... but even here I cannot find a clear answer if the onscreen key-b works.

From switched OFF phone push the power button until the S4 vibrates, IMMEDIATELY push "volume DOWN" to enter download mode.
Push volume UP when you be asked!
Connect the Phone to PC with USB connection cable!
RECOVERY MODE:
(for Recovery operations (.zip Files)):
From switched OFF phone push the power button until the S4 vibrates, IMMEDIATELY push "volume UP" to enter recovery mode.
Process:
Prepare Phone:
1: ROOT YOUR PHONE like described above (if it´s not already rooted)!
2: Flash Philz Touch Recovery with Odin (as "PDA" or new Odin as "AP") or SGS4 flasher APP!
... Look at the above line "RECOVERY MODE" in this Guide how to start!
... If Philz Recovery asks you to fix ROOT (after you choose Reboot Now) choose NO !!!
Prepare SD-Card:
If you don´t have a Micro-SD Card just copy the downloaded EchoeRom ZIP to the internal SD!
3.: Switch OFF your phone and take out the micro SD-Card
4.: Put the micro SD-Card in a card reader and delete the folder ".android_secure"
.... It might work without deleting the ".android_secure" if you come from older ECHOE ROM Version (not tested by me)
5.: Copy the downloaded EchoeRom ZIP to the micro SD-Card
6.: Put the micro SD-Card back into the phone (DONT BOOT UP THE PHONE WITH INSERTED micro SD-Card, ".android_secure" is written again)!
Cleaning Phone:
7.: To completely clean your S4 and get rid of all older remaining´s you now start into Recovery Mode
... Look at the above line "RECOVERY MODE" in this Guide how to start!
8.: In the Settings of Philz Recovery choose:

8b: Wipe Cache Partition
8c: Wipe Data/Factory Reset / Factory Reset
8d: Wipe Data/Factory Reset / "Clean before flash new ROM"
... Note: You have to flash a new ROM after doing point 8d !!!
... Stay into the Philz Recovery and read ahead!
Flashing ECHOE ROM:
9.: Because you stay into Philz Recovery hit the option "Install ZIP" then hit "choose zip from/storage/sdcard1" or internal SD and choose the EchoeRom ZIP
10.: After the flashing process finished go back to main menu and choose "Reboot System Now"
..... If Philz Recovery asks you to fix ROOT (after you choose Reboot Now) choose NO !!!
First Start:
11.: The first time the phone boot up take about 3-4 minutes
12.: After the phone has started do furthermore NOTHING for about 5 minutes (let the system set up in calm)
13.: Switch OFF the phone with the power-button
Flashing another Modem for your Echoe ROM Version (if the included modem is not working properly):
14.: Boot device into Download-Mode from switched off device (important)!
15.: Connect Phone to PC with the Samsung USB Cable!
16.: In Odin remove the "Auto Reboot" hook
17.: In Odin click on PHONE or newer Odin click on CP, load your Modem and press START

I can't find an .android_secure folder anywhere on my SD card.
Just checked and the checksum is correct:
MD5 (/Users/Hate/Downloads/Echoe Illusion Rom v6_28Oct.zip) = 0fba4efafe95457a934cb50946bf552e
Same one as listed at http://d-h.st/AX5 the download link.
Prehaps the upload is corrupt?
Can anyone provide me with an alternative link? I don't want the themed version.
I'm trying downloading it with a different browser however I really cant see chrome being any problem at all?
Please someone help, I'm stuck with an expensive brick currently Well semi-brick :'(
I'd ideally like to fix it as its my only alarm clock!
Thanks
Hmmmmmm.
Just downloaded the themed version,
Wiped everything as instucted ( noticed it said Formatting external_sd/.android_secure despite me checking many time before and its not there, not even a hidden file or folder )
Getting the exact same error Can't open... bad...Can anyone help this is driving me crazy!
All the md5 hashes match
Thanks

Did flashed the ROM like described above?
Did you use the inbuilt Faux Kernel?
Have you flashed the Modem like described in Point #18 ?
What is your Bootloader (old or new (with or without Knox)?
This works flawless! Many people have confirmed! :good:
This flashing method is beyond any doubt, it MUST work if you dont have made thinks wrong!

Never mind, this folder is written from the System itself (after first booting up).
Whats the problem with your downloaded ROM?

Flash a stock ROM with Odin first and then go ahead!
For new Bootloader you have to flash stock .tar.md5 XXUEMJ5 Firmware with ODIN.
For old Bootloader you have to fllash stock .tar.md5 XXUEMGA Firmware with ODIN.
Flash stock ROM with my Guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=46399517#post46399517
So you should have a starting point to continue with the ECHOE ROM Flashing guide!

I flashed like described in point 18. I don't know what bootloader I have and I'm not sure about the kernel.

Did you ever flashed a ROM higher than MGA or MH1 you have the NEW Bootloader!
Flash it like I described in my Best ROM Flashing Guide (in my Sig)!
Then continue with this ECHOE ROM Flashing Guide!
Hi, really like your threads and just discovered this one.
I have a android.secure folder on my external sd card but am wondering, why I can't just delete that one, boot into recovery, wipe and flash the new ROM. In your steps you recommend to take out the card, put it into a card reader, delete the folder, put ROM on external sd card, put card in phone and boot into recovery. Wouldn't that be the same as if I delete it on my phone with a file Explorer and booting into recovery?
Or is this folder recreated while shutting the phone down?
Also, could you explain a bit why this particular folder can make problems?
Thanks in advance!!

I know mate!
I couldn´t delete the .android.secure folder from phone within! I think its used from System and should not be deleted while the system is runnig.
I don´t know what errors/problems this folder could make, I always removed it first.
I think friedrich420 has written that it should be deleted because of making problems when switching from stock ROM to e.g. ECHOE ROM!
SLIM - Yes, Full - No
Hi!
Huge Fan of Echoe Rom. I have a very weird issue with the echoe celstial voices goint to echoe illusion v7. Flashed celestial voices and worked like a charm. Then Illusion V6 Full came up. So downloaded and flashed it. Again worked like a charm. Then I tried the slim version and from there, something weird happened. echoe illusion v6 slim with no kitchen worked out fine, but game me random resets and freeze. So i tried goin back to full. But I cant flash the full version. But can go back to slim without a problem. tried it 20 times now but still getting stucked at boot logo. then v7 came out and still same results.
Cant post to echoerom thread directly due to restrictions. Please advice as to what should i do. Thanks in advance.

Sorry, me with another question regarding external sd + android_secure.folder:
I should take out the external sd, delete the folder and put the ROM on the external sd card. Now when i boot right into revovery will the folder be created again? Cause then it would make more sense to leave external sd card out and put the ROM on internal sd card and flash from there.
As I usually do a fullwipe, including formating internal sd card the ROM would be formated as well. So the ROM needs to be on the external sd card, but then again the android_secure folder might be created while booting up in recovery...i hope you understand my dilemma. :silly:

DUUUUDE!!
Thanks so much for the hint with android_secure folder! #
I had this weird issue that after flashing Echoe ROM Slim Version 3-6 that while booting up for the first time after flashing 4 apps where installed which where totally bloat stuff (such as "mytaxi" and some other shi*t)
I have a "free" Phone, so i always wondered what is happening as this couldn´t come from any "carrier" service. I also formated my external sd card but the problem was still there when i installed Slim V6.
With your methoed this time NO bloat App was installed after the reboot!
Thank you so much, i finally figured out what was causing this! :good:

Hi guys
It has been a long time since my phone has been this bad.
So last night I go to charge my phone because I had ZERO battery. So I turned it on and then plugged it in. The phone booted fine but then I noticed that the screen was not shutting off. I even tried hitting the "Go to sleep" button from the pull down menu and nothing happened. I also realized the phone was not loading my calendar. When I went into the file manager it didn't show SDCARD 1 or 2.
I decided to clear the memory (dalvik + cache) = SAME PROBLEM
I did a factory restore = same problem
Finally I cleared the system = now i have no OPERATING SYSTEM ON THE PHONE
I went to the external sd card and tried to install the latest version of OMNI....IT SAYS IT CANT READ FROM THE SD CARD.
I also tried to copy the file from external sd to internal sd card and it says FAILED
I don't' know what to do...
I am using Team Win Recovery Project 2.6.3.0
I have the latest omni rom on my external sd card. I can see it but install fails.
Please help :crying:

Calm down dear. Same happened with me. I formatted /system and find that I don't have any operating system in my mobile.
Just pluggin your mobile in recovery mode to your PC. transfer the file-> Flash the ROM-> Gapps -> BINGO..
BTW, wrong area for creating a thread.
Don't worry. Do what D™ said.
Alternatively you can use "adb sideload" method. I used it once with Philz recovery. In sideload method, you won't need to copy the file in Sdcard. File existing on pc can be directly flashed. This would help if you still face problems copying file to Sdcard. Search it on google. You will find steps for it.
A bit more clear please...

Thanks dude! I will give it a try and post a response! It was just so strange that I couldn't see any of the drives (sdcard 1 or 2) in filemanager. I guess something must have got corrupted? Right now I am trying to push from adb method mentioned from Nikhil.
I am following this procedure.

PS. the android SDK is massive!
ADB FAIL
ADB IS WAY TOO complicated for me right at this moment (actually exhausted).

Download Stock Indian ICS
Btw, adb sideload method is as follows.
0. Install adb for windows (assuming you have windows). (There shouldn't be any driver missing)
1. Enter into sideload mode in recovery
2. Open cmd in computer with the directory in which zip file is kept. (shift + right click -> open command prompt here would do)
3. Enter adb sideload xyz.zip
Thats it.
I've tried it with TWRP recovery in my friend's phone. It didnt work. But When I tried with Philz recovery, It worked well.
Anyway, if you are finding it complicated, flash stock ics.
Edit : Did you try "mount usb storage" in recovery? because it is required to do. else computer won't recognize your device.
success!
OK so I successfully flashed via ODIN....Can I directly flash omni now? I am assuming yes...Can I flash it through ODIN?
Also can you recommend any good versions of ICS? It is really quite a bit faster than omni...
AGAIN thank you all

Omni is best until now.
you can't flash omni via odin. Flash Philz or TWRP first and then flash omni.
Lv5 ZCLPD is best ICS Rom. But I would choose Omni over Lv5,
reinstall twrp?

Hi,
I've received a chinese X86-64 tablet (Cube iwork10 ultimate) from someone to make this tablet run few apps including Linux. I rooted the device, installed everything needed, configured it and it works perfectly well. I also used TWRP to backup the whole tablet.
The problem is this: I need to replicate this tablet to few others (same model) tablets. I can make a full backup with TWRP, stick a MicroSD on a new tablet, oem unlock it, boot TWRP and do a restore from image, which works...
But I'm looking to do it automatically and not manually, preferable with some script using fastboot, so my questions are:
Is there anyway to boot using fastboot and running a restore? (the image will be on the MicroSD which will be inserted prior to restore)?
Is there any app (the device is root) which is capable of copying the entire tablet to some big "update.zip" so I can use it with "fastboot update"?
How do I "feed" the fastboot boot recovery.img with parameters to TWRP to auto start restore?
Thanks
Search and download system firmware image zipped for Nexus devices or OnePlus One: they use a flashall.bat batch script that you could easily modify to your needs..
I'm not to my PC now but I could link it later..

My problem is that in order to create such a zip, I need somehow to pull from the tablet all the partitions as an images format, any links how to do this would help a lot
As far as I understand you want to make partitions image once and then restore them on many devices, don't you?
In that case you could use dd command from a rooted device or Macrium Reflect from Windows side of the tablet..
EDIT also, don't know which variant you own but all image partitions are already available (stock not rooted or already rooted)
