Auto-Magisk crashes - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I got Magisk working on my Nexus 5 and all was well. I discovered automagisk and decided to use it. When I installed it, however, it crashes when I try to scroll through the list of apps. It's odd. I can choose to disable root for the apps on the screen, and I can enter the settings, but I cannot scroll to see the other apps without crashing it. It doesn't function for what I need (Trying to disable for Pokemon go, and I need to scroll to find it) and it's really bothering me. I have paranoid Android installed. I know it's supposed to be a stock rom, but Magisk worked, so why not automagisk? Sorry for making this so long, please let me know if you can fix this. Thanks!

How many apps do you have installed?

Removing bloat???

I am removing things like Kindle, Google TV, etc.....When I open the Playstore it all pushes back down. Any way to stop this?

Try disabling or freezing them instead. We only have limited root access, and I haven't checked, but I'm pretty sure we don't have root access to where the system apps "live". I disabled some, and froze others (by that I mean disabled through Android-Settings-App Manager, or froze through TiBu), and they're still frozen after a reboot.
Yeah right now root can only write to system/xbin I believe so freezing and disabling is gonna be your only option for right now. Any appearance of deleting apps will revert if you refresh the app or reboot the phone, is what I've read.
Freeze works fine. I de-bloated my M8 and it seems to stick after reboot.

[Q] Launcher takes about a second to redraw every time I exit Chrome only... why?

So basically, only when I'm in the Chrome app (not the beta, just stock chrome), when I hit the home button and come to my home screen, it's blank for a second or two, and then my apps / folders pop up. This shouldn't happen and hasn't happened to me until recently. It's almost as if i'm using too much RAM, but i know for sure I'm not as I've tested it with chrome being the only app even running. I don't think chrome is leaking 2 gb of ram...
Some info- this is on my nexus 5, rooted but stock rom with xposed. No xposed modules related to chrome, chrome is not greenified or anything, so i'm not sure where the problem is. I've reset all the default on ://chrome/flags so i'm not allowing it to use too much RAM. Can anyone think of why this is happening? I can provide more info if needed, just ask.

first things first. xposed comes with a countless amount of undocumented issues. before doing anything else to try and fix your issue, get rid of xposed, completely. if that doesnt fix your issue, we will try other things. if you dont try removing xposed. then theres no point to try anything else.

Simms is right. What I would recommend personally is having MultiROM installed and having one ROM on ART without exposed and another ROM with every XPosed module known to man and several species of Monkey. ?
Over time your device may seem fine but XPosed starts slowly corrupting the integrity of the ROM have no idea how. You'll get random force closes, weird audio bugs, force reboots, screen of deaths, and random lag spikes from my experience. You'll run every cleaner in the book, you'll clear cache and dalvik cache and fix permissions but it won't help. You've been struck by a smooth criminal, ahem. XPosed.

Anybody heard of root methods yet?

Last I heard autoprime managed to root the xt1028, but I haven't seen any news as of yet.
As far as I know, the only root method that works on 4.4.4 is kingoroot apk, which only grants temp root and may cause the launchers to close unexpectedly.
Anyone seen anything in the wild?
Edit-
Nova launcher and home launcher crashed
android.process.acore crashed
android.process.media crashed
Their version of superuser also crashes

Everything crashes with the apk. I installed a different launcher and fixed that problem, but Titanium Backup, all the google apps (Play Store, Hangouts, Gmail, etc.), and even the phone app crash, basically all I can do is power off.
I'm using the 1.3.8 version of the Windows software, and that works fine. I'd like to find a standalone way to temp root, then I'd be comfortable installing busybox, xposed, an app to soft reboot, etc. Bonus if it'd use supersu instead of some custom solution.
Of course, what I REALLY want is a permanent root.
Hrm, I wonder if there would be a way to do a soft root on bootup. You'd need to be able to cancel just in case it messed things up.

I mean, obviously it's possible somehow or another because autoprime did it
I can't figure it out myself though

[Q] How do I remove Google from the home screen?

Ok so I got this upgraded, rooted, etc to MM and now I have the annoying google search bar on the home screen. How the @#$% do I remove it? In the past you could hold down and it would let you remove it, not anymore it would seem but can't figure it out.
Probably a simple stupid thing that I am just missing...

That search bar in the google now launcher is permanent, and i see two options; install a custom launcher like nova or root your device and use xposed to get rid of that search bar
App manager from system, Stop and disable it, or Ccleaner or whatever software for managing system apps and search for "com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox" or only "Google's app" app and disable it
Alternatively you can always install another launcher to your liking...

Thanks for the info everyone. I just disabled it for the time being, frustrating as I sometimes use the app but don't want it on my home screen, would just prefer to open it when I need it...
Thx
Nova, despite my love for it through my Desire S/SGS3/SG Note 3/Nexus 7 (2013) days, seemed to cause some performance slowdown and occasionally caused some issues unlocking my K1.
Considering the K1 appears to be a bit wobbly on stability it might have been a fluke but both times I've had Nova running, I've bumped into issues.

Some very annoying issues with OP6

Iv'e been having these issues for a few weeks now, maybe someone else had them too and can help with these...
1. There's a huge lag with the share menu on every app except for Google Photos. It takes about a minute to open and until it does the app just freezes. happens in Gallery, Facebook, Whatsapp and everywhere else.
2. There's also a huge lag when an app is trying to open another app. For example, if i click on a Youtube link in FB it would take about a minute to actually open the Youtube app. I tried changing the defaults in the settings but still nothing.
3. When i go to Settings, if i go to "Apps and Notifications", it takes about a minute for the menu to open. Once it does everything works ok but if i go into a certain app settings, and i hit "back" and it's supposed to go to the main apps menu, it lags again.
4. 90% of the time to "press power twice for camera" shortcut does not work. When i do it the phone vibrates like it always does but the Camera app doesn't open.
I am on 9.0.5, Magisk 19.1, XXX No Limits.
Things i tried:
- Reflashing the rom
- Uninstalling XXX and Magisk
- Wiping Cache in recovery
These didn't help much. I tried going to OB but i still had the problems so i went back to stable which wiped everything clean and solved the issues... until a few days later when they started again.
If anyone has any other suggestions, i would be happy to hear it. Thanks in advance!
If you did a clean flash and it reappeared, it's probably a rogue app. Do another and restore things one at a time until the problem recurs.
I'm also experiencing few bugs ever since switching to 905 on both slots, mostly WiFi issues and WhatsApp being very delaying with messages etc.
had the same setup as you thought I'll go use custom roms and it's the same on those, so I'm guessing it's 905 oos the bad Apple here
I confirm delay on Whatsup....
Can i revert to 9.0.3?
Did you try a Flash all by Fastboot?
You should have stayed with Oreo
