There's no way it could happen, I think. Flashing a Cyanogenmod really requires an unlocked bootloader. I think it has something to do with the kernel and stuff.

Okay you can install cyanogenmod 12 but first install recovery for locked bootloaders, for cm13 right now you need a special recovery see if you can install it, it is possible though!

[Q] Doubts with locked bootloader and unlocked bootloader?

Hi.. I have Sony Xperia (ST21I) with build number 11.0.A.4.27 (android version 4.0.4). Few months before it rooted this phone with a unlock flash tool. I am sure that the phone is rooted now. And i managed to install a Clockwork Mod too with CWM installer.apk file. And tried too boot into clockwork mod. It worked. Now I don't know which bootloader I am having? A locked bootloader or a unlocked bootloader. This question may look silly to people who are really fluent to android. I never carried any process to specifically unlock my bootloader. I am asking this question because I have read that "You can't root your phone without unlocking bootloader". If what i read is true does that mean i am having a unlocked bootloader?? So now is it possible to flash a custom rom for unlocked bootloader? Thanks in advance.
only few roms

Dial *#*#7378423#*#*
You probably have a locked boot loader as bootloader can only be unlocked by a specific key.
I too have a xperia tipo and it can be rooted without unlocking the bootloader. I used unlockroot to root it.
Thanks Guys!!

[Q] regarding xperia L update to Cm12

Before a while a had tried to unlock the bootloader of c2104. After unlocking it went on into boot loops
In the same condition I rooted it and flashed Pactaoshan rom (cm11). In recovery it read package invalid or corrupted. However now it's fine with its stock rom.
Now I try to update it to Cm12. Do I need to unlock bootloader for it or would it work fine without it.
And if I need to unlock, can anyone explain it step by step from unlocking till flashing Cm12?
A video with step wise Guideline would work
Also I am keen to know why my c2104 didn't accept cm11 previously mentioned.
Waiting keenly for your reply.

Lol you're supposed to flash a stock FTF file once you've unlocked your bootloader. Then go through the steps of installing CM11/CM12. That is flashing boot.img from CM11, and then using the recovery menu.(Press and hold the volume up button when the led lights up during power on) Yes I know I said boot.img from CM11, that's because the recovery in CM12 cannot be used properly. In the recovery menu you can either flash the CM11 or CM12 zip file.
And what about unlocking bootloader?
Most of the thread says no need of unlocked bootloader
What is preferable?

For flashing any kitkat based ROM you will require to unlock the bootloader
For steps on how to flash just go through the forums

Recoveries for locked bootloader ?

Guys is there any recoveries for D2303 Locked bootloader and if not could someone make one ??
bad news, recoveries are in boot.img (kernel). while u have locked bootloader, u cant use unofficial kernels. so, when u want custom recovery, u must unlock bootloader for custom kernels.

My question is if I have the Locked Bootloader with Root permissions and CWM, might I flash any ROM in development. Like CyanogenMod 12, OmniROM 4.4.4/5.0.2? Or is extremely necessary unlock the bootloader?
Regards!
PD: I know the requirements states that "LOCKED BOOTLOADER" is necessary. But, now, will it be necessary as well?
Hmm probabily need unlock bootloader for CM.

some roms require custom, non official kernel. as i see in post above, locked bootloader checks kernel, if its official, not entire boot.img. so u cant flash roms based on unofficial/custom kernels (which requires UB). but u can still flash other parts of rom, like UI, system apps, mods and so on.

With am unlocked bootloader.... Flash an insecure kernel.
Having an unlocked bootloader is the easiest way to root, but not always the best....

Thank you for the answer. I was looking for such a kernel and I did not find any, maybe you can give me a link please. So after I flash that kernel, with Flashtool, what do I do next?
Look in the dev section. There are loads of them. Just flash it. You will have root

Ok, I looked, I found AndroPlusKernel.
But someone in that thread asked if he needs root to flash that kernel.
The reply was : YES.
So which is it? I want to root the phone, If I flash that how is my phone rooted, how can I flash a custom recovery?
You do not need root to flash a custom kernel, you need an unlocked bootloader.
On Xperia devices generally a custom recovery is in the custom kernel you flash.

Ok, I have installed a kernel with TWRP included, all good until I installed Xposed for Lollipop, that alpha version, now everytime I restart the phone I get a bootloop. The only fix is reset to factory settings, and after that the same, every time I reboot the phone I get a bootloop.
The only solution is to reflash a ftf ?
Well, thanks for nothing, I will fix it myself.

You install an alpha version and it does not work and you blame me.
Please take some time to consider what xda is about before you start blaming others because you can't find the fix to it.

The answers to all your questions is NO...
First of all, stock kernel uses verified boot, so no joy on rooting that...you can only temporally root on some Lollipop firmwares from an exploit used by iovyroot, but root won't stick on reboot due to verified boot, so this is only good to take a TA backup...
Second and last of all , to be able to flash a custom kernel you need to unlock your bootloader...

flashing TWRP with locked bootloader?
I am aware that I can only root my Z5 Dual if I have unlocked my bootloader. But is this also true for TWRP?
I mean, can I flash TWRP using following command (with a locked bootloader)? Or would this brick my device?
fastboot.exe flash recovery TWRP_Recovery.img
Up till now, I could not find anything so far (or maybe I was looking for the wrong term)
:silly:
