Hi.. I have Sony Xperia (ST21I) with build number 11.0.A.4.27 (android version 4.0.4). Few months before it rooted this phone with a unlock flash tool. I am sure that the phone is rooted now. And i managed to install a Clockwork Mod too with CWM installer.apk file. And tried too boot into clockwork mod. It worked. Now I don't know which bootloader I am having? A locked bootloader or a unlocked bootloader. This question may look silly to people who are really fluent to android. I never carried any process to specifically unlock my bootloader. I am asking this question because I have read that "You can't root your phone without unlocking bootloader". If what i read is true does that mean i am having a unlocked bootloader?? So now is it possible to flash a custom rom for unlocked bootloader? Thanks in advance.
only few roms

Dial *#*#7378423#*#*
You probably have a locked boot loader as bootloader can only be unlocked by a specific key.
I too have a xperia tipo and it can be rooted without unlocking the bootloader. I used unlockroot to root it.
Thanks Guys!!

Hi everyone!
I have a problem and I need your help. I'm using AVD Rom but I have locked bootloader ("Unlock bootloader allowed: no"). But I need help with flashing .zips. I was trying to do it via Flash Gordon but this application doesn't work properly for me and one time it caused bootloop in my phone. I wanted to flash Pure Performances™ but I don't know how. Does anyone know any program like Flash Gordon but more stable?
Thanks for help in advance

There are restrictions on CUSTOM ROMS which require UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER. However, some ROMS can even work on LOCKED BOOTLOADER. So every time you flash your ROM with locked bootloader, you will end up bootlooped. Sometimes, the ROM would work but some extra modifications wouldnot work (as they require further freedom which only unlocked bootloader can provide)/ Thus flashing Zips made for UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER will also result in bootloops.
The best way would be to check out which ROMS support locked bootloaders or if someone from your community comes out with a hack to UNLOCK your bootloader when you are not allowed.

I understand but most of zips caused bootloop if i flashed them via flash gordon. And I've read that Pure Performances modification doesn't need unlocked bootloader

watch this video to unlock it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iIdJg7KNH3A
and a bootloader allows you to flash kernels/recovers/ and other custom things but only if it is unlocked.
with custom recovery you can install roms, make full system backup, and other things.
a custom kernel wil allow you to overclock cpu/gpu and more.
a custom recovery can be used to flash root.update zip.
but after unlocking bootloader you void your warranty . and your device got hard reset(factory reset)
it can be only unlocked if it is allowed to be unlocked.

Not entirely true, at least to all devices. I have a Moto Defy which also has a locked bootloader, no way to unlock, running KK CM11. Developer @pedrodh has managed to create an app called "2ndinit" (1) which allows a second kernel to boot on top of the locked one, allowing to flash new builds despite the locked bootloader. Because of this, Defy is known as unbricable. Similar approach could be used on E3 if some devel take a look into this.

Guys i really sorry for this noob question but im kinda lost whit this phone...
I was using a moto x but this droid ultra its different.
Actually my phone has the 4.4 firmware and im already rooted (used towelroot) ¿there is any way to unlock the bootloader for free?
EDIT: Im lost... Completely lost.
Towelroot doesn't work, towelpieroot its temporal, I can't flash twrp via "app" or fastboot (cuz boot loader locked)...
I dont know what else can I do... Sorry if this was asked before but I can't find answers in the forum.
Unlocked bootloader whit sunshine... Now im afraid to lock it again.
In order to reach 4.4.2 ¿should i flash twrp, root from there and then take the ota?
Lock again the bootloader ¿its possible?

Update first then flash twrp. You won't lock the bootloader. Once unlocked you stay that way.
Sent From My Droid Ultra
Thank you Casey, ¿even if i flash motoboot.img whit rds? That file contain the bootloader. Just in theory
As I said in the title my device is G920FQ model. I want to try custom roms, is it already bootloader unlocked or is there a way to unlock bootloader? I've searched this place but couldn't find anything.
Also if it is bl unlocked can I just flash TWRP without rooting my device first?
EDIT: Got it all sorted out.
