Recently I installed a custom ROM that is meant to be installed on a Huawei P8, for my Huawei P8 lite as my new OS because I accidentally deleted my whole OS. When I plug my mobile phone to a power source it shows the Huawei logo, I cannot get it into fastboot/rescue mode. If I try the dload folder to sd-card method it will not do anything. Does anyone know what to do.
Flash the stock firmware. I'm 100% sure your problem would be solved.

Is the device recognized by PC? If not, what is device manager labeling the device as?
If it connects to PC and is recognized you can.........
Use adb to clear cache and dalvik/ART cache, then see if the device will boot to recovery or fastboot, if not then power the device off and remove the battery then reinsert the battery(if it has a removable battery). Then leave the device off and connect it to PC then open a adb terminal and type:
adb reboot bootloader (press enter, sometimes the deamon has to start, if nothing happens then type adb reboot bootloader a second time, some devices can be booted from a powered off state with adb)
If that doesn't work try typing:
adb reboot fastboot (press enter).
If none of that works to boot fastboot then try turning the device on, when it gets to the logo, connect the device to PC, open a adb terminal and type:
adb devices (press enter, if it returns a serial number the device is recognized)
Then type:
adb reboot bootloader (press enter and it may boot to fastboot)
Or type:
adb reboot fastboot (press enter)
Or type:
reboot fastboot (press enter)
If none of that gets you to fastboot and you can't boot it manually with the buttons then you're bricked, its not hardbricked though because it boots to logo so that means bootloader is at least there even if it is corrupted and whether anything else is there or works or not.
Whatever you flashed must have had some differences in partitions that flashed over your partitions in places that weren't correct for your device, its more than just the software not being for your device, it is structured completely different than your device.
You've got to get to fastboot someway to flash the stock firmware, that's the only thing I see being able to correct your partitions and put the .imgs in the places they are meant to go.
There is also the possibility that you can download your stock firmware, then extract the kernel(Zimage, its sometimes bundled with/called boot.img or recovery.img, depending on device and android version), the boot.img, the recovery.img and the system.img and then do some research on your device model number and find out which partition(mmcblk0) each of those imgs go in(I could tell you how to use adb to find the partitions but that wouldn't help if flashing the wrong things has screwed up their placements). Then, if adb is working with the device you can use the dd command to manually push the boot.img to its mmcblk0, the recovery.img to its mmcblk0 and the system.img to its mmcblk0.
I would start with dd-ing the recovery, then seeing if it will boot to recovery, if the recovery is a custom recovery and you have a nandroid backup or a correct ROM zip, try restoring or flashing. If it doesn't then dd the boot.img to its mmcblk0 and see if it boots to recovery, if not, dd the system.img to its mmcblk0, you can repeat this process with each of the .imgs in your stock firmware. Maybe if you can push enough to the device it will restore some functionality that will allow you to get booted to a state will allow you to completely reflash the device.
If the confused you then I might have confused myself typing it, lol.

Tried various possible solutions and still can't get past the Google logo. Installed adb and Samsung driver but when executing commands such as "abd remount" or "adb push file.zip \sdcard\" in cmd I get an error saying "device not found".
Does anyone know how I could resolve this issue?
I tried clearing the cache and wiping the data from the phone, and even heating the phone with a hair dryer. I'd very much appreciate any help.
looks like you still be able to get in reovery ? if so , then nothing you should worry , just flash a new ROM
Do you mean like a boot image or a recovery image?
If so then you need to put phone in fastboot mode, hold volume up and power til it comes up on screen, then on command prompt on your computer type in fastboot flash recovery xxxxxxx.img (xxxxx is the name of the file like cwm5.0.2.0.img or whatever)
That should give you a working recovery to flash roms from.
Is your boot loader unlocked?
If you wanna mount then just go to mounts and storage and mount USB storage and it will show up on your computer!

Hmmm try going to cmd prompt and typing in adb devices, if you get nothing then your adb isn't set up properly and you need to go into setting and change the path on your computer.
I know the details are sketchy but gimme a min and I will find you a link

Find the Android sdk folder in your computer, move it to the root of C.
I don't think adb is where this guide says it is, there is a read me in the folder where it was saying it has moved to the platform tools folder.
So anyway find the path to the file and put it where the guide says and you should be on the ball.
Forget adb. You need to use fastboot.
Open a command prompt in the directory with fastboot or cd into it.
Put phone in fastboot mode.
On the command prompt type fastboot devices.
You will see your serial number. If you don't recheck and make sure you did everything. Sdk PDA drivers if need be etc.
Fastboot flash recovery custom recovery img name.img
Boot into recovery
Mounts and storage.
Mount SD card
Put a rom for you device on there.
Unmount
Wipe everything but sdcard from recovery.
Flash the rom by going to install zip from SD card......
Okay still stuck trying to connect to my phone. I haven't been able to get my serial number show when typing fastboot devices in cmd. adb is set up and seems to be working but the list of devices is blank when I type in adb devices. The phone was put into fastboot mode both times. I get <waiting for device> when I try
fastboot flash recovery clockwork-5.0.2-crespo.img
I think the bootloader may be locked as it does say LOCKED under lock state, which is probably the reason why I can't get the recovery image to work. I couldn't install PDANet as it wanted to connect to my phone while in debugging mode at the end of the installation. Would it be possible that fastboot oem unlock won't work with without having PDANet installed? I'd really appreciate any further help on this topic.

I have the Google USB driver package installed from SDK Manager. I had tried to install some other Samsung driver found on another post but it wouldn't install.
Turns out drivers weren't fully installed, managed to get PDANet installed and could connect to the phone with fastboot devices. Serial number was displayed in cmd. Only problems lies with unlocking the bootloader. fastboot oem unlock fails giving an error: too many links. Anyone have a solution to this?

Yeah I was in bootloader at the time, but I noticed that the Lock-State said locked. So I figured I must first use fastboot oem unlock. If I was to try flash with a stock recovery image would I still need to unlock the bootloader? Thanks for your reply, I followed the steps just now and got the exact same error. Before I was trying fastboot oem unlock while in platform-tools but this time I had downloaded the nexussrootICS.zip file, and extracted it to the root of C. I tried fastboot devices and my serial shows up and after fastboot oem unlock I get "status read failed: too many links."
The only difference I seem to have is that in my device manager I have Android Device > ADB Interface, as opposed to SAMSUNG Android Device > ADB Interface.
Not a big difference but that's all I can think of.

So, I went through the temp root/S-off routine with WeakSauce and Firewater. Then flashed TWRP over adb. Rebooted to TWRP which asked if I wanted to install SuperSU. I said yes. Rebooted again and came back up in TWRP. Cannot boot to system. Rebooting always takes me back to recovery. Help would be much appreciated!
Oh, and I can also boot to the bootloader, if that helps.
Can you load a rom to the internal memory or on the SD card and then flash and install a new rom?

Hey man the same thing happened to me last night, i thought i bricked my phone. I personally dont think the adb method of getting twrp onto the phone is working right now. If someone knows what we are doing wrong plz let us know.
Here is how i fixed it:
1. Put phone into bootloader, put it on fastboot, plug it into computer. You will see it change to "fastboot usb"
2. Download and do this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708686 . To do this go back to your console (terminal or cmd), navigate back to the folder with adb in it, and instead of running the adb commands just type in " fastboot flash boot M8VZWbootInsecure.img ". its easiest to put that boot img in the same folder as adb and fastboot. once that is done you just need to reboot the phone and you are golden.
3. Problem is, when you do this you can no longer get back to your recovery, you get a screen with a red triangle and exclamation mark. I thought I bricked my phone lol.
4. Doing a alternate soft reset will get the phone back to normal android ( hold down power and volume up for 10 secs)
5. to fix it complete use the flashboot method of copying over the recovery onto the phone as shown here http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/226 . This is essentially the same method as in step 2 its just copying over the twrp.img into the recovery section of the phone.
By doing this I was able to get TWRP to work and be able to boot normally to system. Hope this helps.
I think the command you run has something to do with it. "Fastboot flash boot nameofrecovery.img"
Almost certain the command has to be "fastboot flash nameofrecovery.img"

My understanding is that there's two ways of getting into a custom recovery in adb:
1: "fastboot flash recovery nameofrecovery.img" this will flash over the previous recovery whatever that was. It will stick and you get into the new recovery either through hboot or a ROM's advanced power menu.
2: "fastboot boot nameofrecovery.img" this will boot into the recovery temporarily and allow you flash things. Once you reboot from that temp recovery it will boot using whatever kernel (or other .img file in this case) you have flashed into the boot partition.
The syntax for flashing is "fastboot flash <partition> <name-of-file-to-flash-to-that-partition>"
The syntax for booting an image is "fastboot boot <name-of-the-file-to-boot>"
It sounds like you mixed those 2 together and typed " fastboot flash boot nameofrecovery.img" so when you go to boot your phone now the only thing your phone sees to boot is the recovery. That's why your solution is twofold.
1: Flash the kernel to the boot partition: "fastboot flash boot nameofkernel.img" (sometimes these are just named "boot.img"). This will load the Kernel, modules, and ROM so that your phone will boot properly.
2: flash the recovery to the recovery partition: "fastboot flash recovery nameofrecovery.img" This will permanently install your custom recovery so that you can go back into it next time you want to flash ROMs, make/restore backups, etc.
You should be good to go and will likely never make THAT mistake again. Ask me how I know...

I didn't use fastboot load TWRP, I used the adb method shown on TeamWin's project page for the Verizon M8:
***********
Download - ADB / Terminal method:
Download the newest .img file from here
Download the above file. Save it to the root of your /sdcard directly (internal memory only) and rename it to twrp.img
Launch terminal emulator or connect to your computer and open an adb shell, then type the following:
su
dd if=/sdcard/twrp.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p43
Then reboot to complete installation.
***********
Thanks all for the other suggestions which I am about to attempt!
I had this happen to me on my Asus EeePad TF101. It seems that TWRP has a bug that prevents it from setting a "boot to system" flag on some devices, causing it to always boot to recovery.
The solution for the TF101 was to reinstall the stock boot image, which appears to align with the instructions already given. Good luck! I know the terrible feeling I had when this happened to my tablet...

The fastboot command to flash your recovery is:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
where "recovery.img" is the name of your recovery.img file on your host computer. Don't use "fastboot flash boot recovery.img", as I believe this will flash your boot partition, not the recovery partition.

if you flash to anything but the recovery partition your in some trouble.
same goes for anything like this, make sure you know what that .img is and you trust it. someone could have renamed an hboot to recovery and you end up flashing an hboot to your recovery partition because someone was careless with naming of files.

Purchased an Lg Gpad 7 Wifi tablet (v400) 2 weeks ago. Came with preinstalled Lollipop android so i couldnt install a recovery rom to flash any other custom roms. Downgraded to Kitkat version following the instructions on Xda forums and succesfully installed Twrp. When i installed Cyanogenmod 12.1 through Twrp i got stuck in fastboot screen.
Any suggestions and / or solutions would be greatly appreciated.
I had a similar problem.. Only mine was stuck at the bootloader. Go in TWRP and repair /data and other partitions. My data partition gave me an error since F2FS is a little flaky and some ROMs corrupted it (claimed they supported it). I would recommend erasing the system, cache and data partition if you can't get into TWRP.
The problem is i cant get out of fastboot whatever i try. It says start on bootloader but the tablet just restarts on an empty screen doing nothing.

if that doesnt work, try entering fastboot command, fastboot continue

you said it was stuck on fastboot, if thats the case, install any needed drivers on your pc, connect device to it, open a terminal in the fastboot dir (after you go get fastboot), then try those commands i gave. you could also try, fastboot reboot dont think i mentioned that before.

hmm, ok, im guessing it would have said that normally, when not broken. all the command does is try to release it past where its stuck. it doesnt actually flash, lock, unlock, or change anything.
imo, this seems good, because now we know fastboot is working.
i own lg devices, but not your specific device. i would hate to give you some bad advice and make your tablet broken more, but if it were me in this situation, i would try to flash the factory KK firmware you used to downgrade with odin or however you did it. hopefully, that will clean everything up and let it boot properly.
if for whatever reason you cant do that, we could try extracting the factory file, and just flashing recovery and system, those should be the only things that got changed putting on twrp and cm normally.
Sorry, I have the serious proplem wtih my LG pad V400, I rooted it and using <LG Flash Tool 2014> with <V40010c_00.kdz> to downgrate the firmware but their is error then my LG pad stuck in fastboot menu as with just turn off, restart and restart bootloader. if i seclect one one them the tablet just logged again the fastboot menu
it stuck on the fastboot menu and i cannot do nay think with it. I can restart with factory restore mode but when select yes to restore, it will restart and log in fastboot menu again.
I downloaded adb and fastboot program and put in one folder <Minimal ADB and Fastboot> in C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot
I dont have recovery image so i download file <cm-13.0-20160421-NIGHTLY-v400-recovery.img> form your link to download TWRP file
move it to folder of fastboot programe and changed its name to <recovery.img>
I turn on the tablet and it waited at fastboot menu
when i run the command <fasboot flash recovery recovery.img> and they said some thing wrong like in picture

Introduction
This is an UNOFFICIAL TWRP port for UMIDIGI F1 that works properly with encrypted /data partition in official ROM. I am aware that the UMIDIGI F1 already has TWRP built for it, but none of them seem to have decryption working properly. In fact, every single TWRP, even official ones, for any MT6771 device, seem to have non-functional decryption support. Through some digging I managed to fix decryption at least for UMIDIGI F1, so here is my version of TWRP for the device.

This TWRP has been tested with official ROM and my LineageOS 17 port (https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/unofficial-lineageos-17-0-umidigi-f1-t3997827) and it works fine.
This is UNTESTED on the F1 Play. ONLY TESTED on regular F1.
Why Bother
Because security matters. Using a cheap device should not mean giving up security, and more importantly, privacy.
Instructions
1. Unlock bootloader
2. Enable ADB debugging in system
3. Execute "adb reboot bootloader" while having your phone connected to PC
4. Execute "fastboot flash recovery <your_downloaded_recovery>.img"
5. Reboot phone while holding Volume Up + Power buttons
Note: The official ROM may overwrite the recovery, so you may need to re-flash the recovery if this behavior isn't prevented either by TWRP or manually.

I appreciate your sharing this. I have added "system_image emmc" to the fstab file, so I can flash and backup the system.img
This works good on my F1,
But I tried to make this decrypt work for my other phone with 6771(Bold N1), but couldn't find all same files added to recovery/root from stock firmware.

Those files are extracted from vendor.img, but it can be different on different devices, e.g. keymaster version might be different. Also you will need to patch them using `patchelf` to make them use `/sbin/linker64` instead of `/system/bin/linker64`
hello

on other releases, no change was needed to boot on both. I would try as is first.
as long as you have working sp flash tool in case of issue.

Cause i test it without changes , it reboot to system
I think because they have different kernels
I am unable to install twrp.
When I run the "fasthboot flash recovery" command, cmd aparace "waiting for de ice" and nothing happens on my phone ...
Am I doing something wrong?
no fastboot response
for some reason (most likely pilot error, lol) the phone doesn't show when I do "fastboot devices" - even though the F1's screen shows "fastboot mode" in very tiny letters on the bottom-left.
probably something stupid I'm doing wrong, will keep trying...

You can operate from adb/fastboot folder and device can stay on fastboot mode but if drivers were not properly installed then no connection with pc.
Try installing:
- https://androidmtk.com/download-mtk-usb-all-drivers
- https://www.androidweblog.com/download-mediatek-usb-vcom-drivers/
Start the process from device on using adb commands to always allow access to the pc. I mean:
Code:
adb devices
and then if device is detected you will see a screen warning to "always allow...." then tap on yes; this suppress future conflicts, then
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
while on fastboot follow with
Code:
fastboot devices

thanks!
adb was already working (is how I made the thing reboot to bootloader, and yes I did tell it to permanently accept the computer I'm using.
this is on linux, so the drivers shouldn't be a problem... although SMH I never put USB IDs into the udev rules. which is interesting, because regular adb already worked fine without it - I have had phones in the past that some did, some did not, require the computer to know about vendor/hardware ID.
(and I know that the adb USB IDs are usually different than the ID for fastboot, as well.)
like I said, pilot error lol. but thank you again for the reply!
I have done the following:
Enabled Developer Options
Enabled USB Debugging
Enabled OEM Unlocking
Unlocked the bootloader with:
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flashing unlock
Rebooted and Enabled USB Debugging again.
Then after downloading your recovery
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot boot ~/Downloads/recovery.img
But nothing happened.
I rebooted and thought I would try flashing
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash recovery ~/Downloads/recovery.img
It just paused on the boot screen saying "Your device has been unlocked and can't be trusted".
If I reboot then try to go direct to recovery:
Code:
adb reboot recovery
I end up with the broken android screen and "No command"
What am I missing?

While in fastboot the first you should do is see if device is detected by pc with
Code:
fastboot devices
It looks like something is wrong with your path, I ever avoid path copying or moving the file/image to the adb/fastboot directory but anyway if you don´t want to do it you can copy the path from the bar where your recovery file is allocated, for example, if the file is in Downloads directory like it seems actually is, no matter what unit/drive you are in you can set an absolute value to avoid errors, look at this example: C:\Users\your_user\Downloads
If your device is detected then you can flash the recovery as you were trying to do it with
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
and then you can reboot directly to it without need to reboot to system previously and this will prevent TWRP from being overwritten, with
Code:
fastboot boot recovery.img
hmm, so when I checked the udev rules, it already had one for MTK/mediatek - and the USB vendor is '08ed' in fastboot as well as in regular adb, so it wasn't a problem with udev/plugdev.
which I guess may mean the lunix generic android drivers for fastboot might be... "lacking" - I'll have to scrounge up a win7 laptop and try the recommended windows drivers.

I don't think it was anything to do with the path as it output the file transfer size.
I think it was a combination of the following:
I wasn't pressing the right combinations of buttons after flashing.
i.e. holding VOL UP and pressing POWER on the screen saying "Your device has been unlocked and can't be trusted".
Rebooting might (?) have been reverting the recovery.
I was originally trying this on the firmware that was shipped 2019012414 but after flashing 2019090418 with SPFlashTool I had more success.
I also able to reboot to recovery directly after flashing with fastboot with the following:
Code:
fastboot oem reboot-recovery
Whichever was the key I can now reboot to recovery from adb too.
:good:
Your twrp eliminates fingerprint authentication.
I discovered something interesting, your twrp only works on my device, no other twrp works, but when I install it, I lose my fingerprint, it doesn't work at all.
Simply put, I must choose between the fingerprint or the root.

Try to clean flash last vendor build with spflash tool. First boot need stock recovery.
You don't need custom recovery to achieve root.
Maybe give a try to SNwriter (I never needed it though and can't help here).
Both of those twrp are not sticking. I have flashed with spoken flash tool v5 1944 win and I fastboot cmd with the same results.
Thanks
Gracias for this master ?
good

good idea
Code:
TRY THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK! This could brick your phone. It shouldn't but it can. If you brick your phone, or anything stops working on your phone, YOU are responsible.
Reboot combinations:
Fastboot: Shutdown and with USB cable hold power and volume down until it says FASTBOOT MODE at the bottom
Recovery: Shutdown and with USB cable hold power and volume down until the
Code:
Please release key to power off *
dissapears.
Unlocking Bootloader
Code:
Note: This will delete all user data! Backup all your data before doing this!
This part of the guide is part of the tutorial made by @Arin59 at https://forum.xda-developers.com/nokia-3/how-to/method-to-unlock-bootloader-nokia-3-pie-t4012285
First of all convert your serial number (should look like NE1*************) to MD5 Hash and enable OEM Unlock in developer options.
Then reboot to fastboot and type
Code:
fastboot oem key {HASH}
then type
Code:
fastboot flashing unlock
.
To reboot to Android, run fastboot reboot.
Installing TWRP
Code:
This will delete your user data, but it should be already deleted.
You can use any TWRP image made for this device but I had the most success with https://forum.xda-developers.com/nokia-3/development/twrp-teamwin-recovery-nokia-3-t3762512 .
Flash your TWRP Image chosen with
Code:
fastboot flash recovery your-recovery-image.img
and then reboot to recovery.
In TWRP go to Wipe and then Format Data and type yes.
Install Magisk
Install Magisk normally.
< waiting for device >
I put the phone in fastboot mode and ran fastboot with the oem key md5 hash command but it just said "< waiting for device >". I think it might be because I forgot to install the Nokia 3 USB drivers. I'm using a linux computer, do I need to find OS specific drivers?
edit: And now my phone is stuck in fastboot mode and for some reason will not shutdown no matter how long I hold down the power button for.

If you're using a linux computer, you should try running the command with sudo.
If it doesn't work, try with another cable (or computer if it doesn't work) and try again.

Thanks. I've since got it working. For some reason I had to use the -i argument (the interface argument) along with the code for the device (0x2e04) "fastboot -i 0x2e04 <command>".
However, I've recently bypassed the "NO COMMAND" screen and gained access to TWRP custom recovery but in trying to shut down the phone, it shuts down fine but only boots up in fastboot mode. Even using the fastboot reboot command from adb tools boots it up in fastboot mode. This is a problem as I need to boot it in its normal mode so I can download the magisk.zip file required for installing magisk but I seem to be unable to do so.

Thanks, it worked.
Though I tried wiping, but it didn't solve the booting issue. Unsure how to proceed at this point. I feel like I've tried everything. Actually, I just checked my /boot folder and it's empty...is that why it's always booting into fastboot?
I tried using adb to sideload the magisk.zip file but then the phone rebooted into stock recovery??
Any and all guides on this say to download the magisk.apk either into the SD card or internal storage, but I don't have a micro SD card and I can't access the normal mode of the phone to download anything.
What can I do?
I've flashed TWRP successfully but forgot to download the magisk.apk. Now whenever I boot up my phone, it boots into stock recovery mode automatically, even if I tell TWRP to reboot into system it reboots into Stock Android recovery. I can still access TWRP by holding down the up + power buttons on boot though, but I can't access the normal mode of the phone anymore.
I tried using TWRP's sideload feature with ADB tools to sideload Magisk.zip and it said it succeeded but in using TWRP's install feature to find the zip file, it wasn't in /sideload/ or /storage/ as both were empty.
How can I temporarily restore normal functionality so I can simply download the Magisk manager.apk?
