Google Keyboard has stopped - General Questions and Answers

HelloiI am using a rooted OPX, and recently I have installed CM13 again, since I deleted my OS. So I installed CM 13 plus GApps. But the issue is with Google Keyboard. The Keyboard itself works, but whenever I try entering into the keyboard settings, immediately it closes, so I cannot set it up. Any solution? I know there are similar posts to this, but I haven't found any other post with ths exact problem.
Thank you

Which gapps r u using? Flash pico or nano version.
Follow the step for flashing ROM and gapps:-
1)wipe data
2)wipe cache and dalvik cache.
3)wipe system.
4)flash ROM
5)flash gapps.(flash it before first boot)
6)wipe cache and dalvik cache.

[Q] Eagles Blood CM9 to AOSP question

I am running Eagles Blood CM9. If I switch over to EGB AOSP will the "Backup and Reset" --> "Backup my data" and "Automatic Restore" features that are included in CM9 be available in AOSP?
I guess I am wondering if I have to reinstall apps manually or not?
Thanks,
-John
When switching ROMs like that you should: ** In CWM
(You must do this so no bugs are created.)
1. Wipe data
2. Wipe cache and dalvik cache
3. Install rom
4. Install latest GApps(4/29/12)
This will wipe all your apps, which you will have to reinstall by going to the Play Store>Menu>My apps>swipe over, and there it will have all your apps. You'll have to do that if the play store doesn't automatically start downloading them. But, if you use titanium backup, you can try that, but I've read that it causes problems.
Lastly, you can dirty flash(don't wipe data, only cache and dalvik cache), but this will most likely cause bugs that aren't because of the rom. So, from coming from the Eaglsblood ICS to their AOSP ics build, do the first instructions to be safe.

I have had no problems with Titanium Backup. The only thing is that you must make sure to backup apps right before you flash.

ORBOT (Tor) Issue: No Internet access after Orbot deactivated

After Orbot is deactivating, internet is not working, it seems proxying all setting is always on after activating Orbot first time, and I am forced to keep Orbot ON.
I had to:
force stop - clear data - uninstall - reboot - install version 0.2.4.4 alpha 1.0.11 RC4
for it to work again correctly
but play market keeps asking me to update
I was not sure where to post this issue, as my device is HOX, HTC One x, but i think it's a general Orbot issue, so please re-post it in other forum if necessary
Hope this helps
I had the same problem after uninstalling orbot on my HOX.
This is what I did and all is fine now
1) Reboot into ClockworkMod recovery
2) Select advanced
3) Wipe Dalvik cache
4) Wipe cache partition
5) Reboot
6) All is working fine
Hope this works for you
[SOLVED] Any other ways?

I know that this is an old post, but I really need help with this problem and the method mentioned before didn't worked for me :/
Same situation (ASUS ME173X memo pad HD 7): orbot installed, after about half an hour orbot was stopped and remove. Since then, I can't load any page on a regular wifi network, but I've no problem on a proxyed one (college, with authentication).
The other way around seems to be a factory reset, because I really don't know how to manually restore the connection, but I hope someone here can find another solution...
Thank you in advance!
EDIT: l think that it solved itself after been shut down and left in that state for a night...
Really, I've no idea of what happened :/

I experimented a little and found that I only had to clear cache (and not dalvik cache).
Solved: Wiped cache from Recovery (no clockwork)
Thank you for the quick fix!!

[Q] From CM10 20130330 to CM10 20130416 ??

Hi and thanks for all the help and pre-thanks for any help on this. I am just a TAD paranoid from a previous flash.
I have been running CM10.1 20130330 and gapps 20130301 for 2 plus weeks now. It was pretty stable until I restored Talkback from my Titanium backup from the GB backup and then said, I am not blind and tried to remove it with TBU and it wouldn't install. Everything works ok with some warnings that::gmail, gaaps, email, TBU, etc have guit working, I press on and things work.
I want to flash the CM.1 20130416 and gapps 20121212.
Following http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1776129 Scott's directions for coming from JB 4.1 I would need to do a Factory reset?
CWM: Wipe Cache / Factory Reset Note: You should be fine without this step, but it is HIGHLY recommended as it makes certain all bugs are wiped clean. (Should be fine???)
Install ROM: Scroll down for downloads
Install OC kernel [Optional]: Scroll down for downloads (not using)
Install Gapps: Here (the latest for JB 4.2.1 - 12/12/12) - Working swipe! ---- Here (the latest for JB 4.1.2) - New GAPPs 10/11/2012
CWM: Wipe Cache Partition
CWM: Advanced/Wipe Dalvik Cache
Reboot
TWO questions:
1. Factry reset removes all my programs doesn't it (?) and I would need to re-install again, right? or restore from Titanium BU? or CWM Blue Restore?
2. I am reading about the nightlies and do you guys wipe everything every time or what?
I am getting the hang of it and enjoying basically a new phone and really don't want to go back to stock with this if I can avoid it.
Thanks for an awesome Forum

Since you are already having some fc issues from restoring I would recommend
1) Factory reset
2) Go to Mounts and storage
3) Format system
4) Format data
5) Format cache
6) Flash ROM, flash G-apps(either for 4.2.2 is fine)
7) Wipe dalvic
8) Reboot
Once you have done this either let playstore re-install apps, or install manually. Do NOT restore data

I will do this now, but when I go into the Advanced Menu, I am assuming CWM Blue, I only see repartition and not format. I also do not see system as an option. Am I missing something? I am searching threads for answers now. Thanks.

Up and running and Google Play is automatically reinstalling all my apps at present. Very nice as this has never happened in prior rom flashes.

[Q] Flashing SlimKat & some general questions

Hi everyone!
I have three questions.
1. a) The installation instruction on slimroms.net says you should do system partition wipe as well in addition to normal TWRP wipe. I used to do normal TWRP wipe only when I flashed SlimBean, and it worked (maybe not since it got bricked). Wiping system is actually necessary?
b) When you update the ROM, do you have to do full wipe again? Or can I just flash the ROM zip file after erasing cache/dalvik? I have long been curious about this since the first instruction always has this phrase: 'if you are coming from a different ROM'.
2. Is there a simpler way than using TitaniumBackup after flashing?
3. Do I need to flash updateSU zip file every time I flash the ROM?
Thank you in advance!

1.a. In TWRP > Wipe menu > You have an option to wipe the system partition so you just have to check it. Before doing this make sure that the option -rm is checked in TWRP settings.
1.b. Only wipe cache and dalvik cache for an update.
2. TB is one of the best apps to restore apps & data. You can also create a flashable zip to restore your backup.
3. Yes as long as SuperSU isn't fully implemented in the rom.

Another question:
I flashed franco on SlimKat ROM. So, do I need to do full wipe when I update the ROM?
Or can I erase cache/dalvik > flash ROM > gapps > franco > SuperSU?

No. Wipe cache and dalvik is enough for an update so "cache/dalvik > flash ROM > gapps > franco > SuperSU" is correct.
I'm not sure for SlimKat but with some ROMs you don't need to flash GApps at each update.

That's good. I don't know why formatting cache takes so long with Nexus 5. I'm always stuck at "Formatting Cache using make_ext4fs function" for a minute or two. This didn't happen with my Galaxy Nexus.

Sorry for bothering you with similar questions, but I just wanted to make sure! When I change the kernel from franco to Trinity, I erase cache/dalvik and just flash Trinity, right? Only when I want to try out another ROM, I need to full wipe? Thanks.

If you didn't modify the rom=> you can flash a custom kernel WITHOUT any wipe
If you already change the kernel => you have to dirty flash your current rom (no wipe) then flash another custom kernel
If you want to try another rom => you have to full wipe: data+cache+dalvik+system

[Q] [Team Canjica] OmniROM 4.3 missing Play Store and Google account

I have updated stock Android 4.1.2 on Samsung Galaxy S Advance to Team Canjica OmniROM 4.3 (omni-4.3.1-20131218-janice-HOMEMADE.zip). Everything finished successfully. But when I restarted my device I can not see a Play Store app and in system settings in accounts there is no account type of Google. So I can not sign in and use my device. I also tried to install (omni-4.3.1-20131208-janice-HOMEMADE.zip) but it ends the same.
Please help me. Or maybe I am missing something and I should add my Google account somewhere else. I also tried to add it as exchanged account, but it can not connect to server.
Warning: No file_contexts
I am also getting following message during flash:
Warning: No file_contexts
but flash progress bar is still moving and when it has finished I can reboot to system but Play store app is missing
Second atempt
I tried one more time. I have restored stock Android 4.1.2 by download mode, then rooted and then installed again update with custom ROM, but still get the same warning and Play store and Google account is missing

Yes I have followed the instruction.
I have done a factory reset / wipe data, cache and dalvik cach.
Then installed OmniROM and Gapps.
After rebooting system I am missing Play store and Google account.
I have also rebooted to recovery mode and made once again a factory reset / wipe data, cache and dalvik cache, but it also did not help.
No I realized that even I have installed in recovery mode: Gapps it was also missing after rebooting to system.

Sounds like you forgot to download and flash the appropriate GApps package for your new ROM. Carefully re read the OP of that ROM thread and find the link for downloading GApps. GApps are the Google App packages for AOSP based ROMS. Those packages usually include the Playstore and other Google Apps.

Sounds like your Gapps package isn't fully installing. I would try installing the ROM, boot into the ROM and let it settle. Then reboot to recovery and install Gapps.

Can you confirm that this is correct Gapps file I should install?
goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip
Previously when I tried to install Gapps there was displayed success message,
but after installing ROM there was only message: Warning: No file_contexts
but as far as I found on forum I should ignore this message.
But it was strange that there was no success message after installing ROM even if install progress was still moving when this warning was displayed.

That is the correct Gapps package for most 4.3 Roms. As I am not familiar with your ROM, I would double check the OP to make sure that is the package you should be using.

I use the same ROM with the same Gapps file. It works fine for me.
I have had the same problem when I had forgotten to wipe the dalvik cache after installing a new ROM, but if you have already done that (and again), I don't know what else to suggest (apart from retrying everything from scratch).
