I have a custom rom downloaded. But to flash it, I need to erase everything. That I am unable to do because the recovery dosent wipe data. It led to a bootloop. I got back the stock firmware and tried again and same result. Further more, I cant even factory reset. I'm using TWRP 3.0. Someone please help!

Ive tried that 4 times till now. It has been in a bootloop thrice. And I flashed stock. I currently am using stock firmware but want to flash the custom rom. The recovery is failing to wipe data because it is failing to mount data.

Try this
1. Reboot to recovery (TWRP)
2. Select wipe.
3. Select advanced wipe.
4. Check system.
5. Repair or change file system.
6. Select change file system.
7. Select format type.
8. Swipe to change.
9. Select repair.
there is one problem with stock rom. its encrypts the data partition right after installing stock rom, therefore twrp can't access data partition. i had similar problem earlier. this is how i managed to fix.
solution: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=67980158&postcount=7
i suggest you to stick with stock rom, because right now whatever roms or recoveries are made for this phone are blindly ported (just copy paste roms). i have tried about 3-4 roms for this phone, all had major bugs especially battery related. there is only one developer who made a stable rom so far is beingtejas, search his thread. if you really want to use a custom rom, try THIS rom made by gaurav kesarwani with help of beingtejas that is why i am suggesting it you otherwise it didn't worked for me atleast.

Yesterday i preformed a hot reboot because my phone was not installing apps correctly. I used the app Hot Reboot. When i looked at my phone again this morning it was still booting! I took the battery out and back again and pressed the power button. But how i try it keeps booting all the time! I can get into all boot modes but i don't want to flash a whole new rom 'cause i haven't backup all my stuff... What can I do? Will this be solved with flashing for example a new kernel or anything wich doen't reset my phone? I'd really appreciatie help!
Try clearing the cache and the dalvik cache in recovery, if that doesn't work tho you will most likley have to do a full wipe and re-install your rom.

Tnx but my phone still keeps on booting after wiping cache. Is there maybe a way to backup all my system 'n data files using adb or something?
It also happened to me this morning...u may again flash your device with the stock roms (froyo or gingerbread) again by using Odin Multi downloader...first power off the phone..then hold volume down+home+power on
To bring into download mode
Then flash the roms...it should restart....at least worked for me

Go into recovery mode and then go to backup and restore and then select backup. It usually takes a little while backing up the system so be patient.

I don't have clockworkmod recovery. Can I just flash the latest version of g3mod (wich involves cwmrecovery)? Doesn't it reset my phone if I flash that?
But are there no possibilities using adb? Because i run one of the first g3mod kernels...

Just flash the latest G3MOD kernel and use the CWM from that. It won't wipe any data whatsoever but if you get force closes it is recommended that you wipe the data from CWM. I don't really know how to use ADB but i think rudolf895 has a tutorial on youtube. Google 'rudolf895' and find his video that is called how to make your own custom ROM.

Hey everyone, I need help for my Xoom 3G MZ601, I just rooted it and flashed EOS' rom and I'm stuck at bootanimation. I'm new to rooting and flashing custom roms for tablets, its different in phones.
When you say you are stuck, what have you tried to do? Have you tried to get back into your custom recovery? If you can, you could try to reflash your rom and gapps after wiping cache and dalvik cache. You would have your system wiped when you unlocked, but you could wipe again before reflashing...that might help.
Yes, I wiped everything, I did this 5 times and the same thing happens, stuck in bootanim.

1. Do you have a backup of your stock rom? if you have a backup and recovery works you should be able to recover your stock system and everything will be allright.
2. If you don't have a backup enter this site motodev site (i can't post any links) download correct firmware for your device and flash every part of downloaded rom via fastboot.
I hope it will help you
It seems like your recovery img is the culprit, try downloading eos with goomanager..
try; adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash recovery eos-recovery-r6.img http://goo.im/devs/teameos/recoveries/wingray/eos-recovery-r6-softkeys.img or http://goo.im/devs/teameos/recoveries/wingray/eos-recovery-r6.img

I wanted to update from Android 2.3.5 to 4. I rooted my phone properly, and that went fine with Superuser elite. Because of upgrading, I installed CWM 5.0.2.7 via Odin. In the background CWM shows errors:
Code:
Cannot mount /cache!
And errors like that. I formatted microSD card, inserted it back, formatted it. The errors are still here. Because of the left cache folder, I couldn't install Android 4. I followed all guides on Internet, the problem is still here. I thought newer version of CWM will solve it, and I downloaded version 6 and flashed it through Odin(WHY?:crying. Now I cannot go to download mode or CWM, I am stuck at SAMSUNG logo when I boot the phone. Any help will be very appreciated. :highfive: The last thing I would do is to go to shop and request a new one, because my warranty expired in February. It's cost is 210 euro. This is the second time I almost bricked my device.
I'm trying this.

EDIT: ADB cannot see my device! I also tried Heimdall, but with no luck. This means I am screwed? Hope not!!

cwm doesn't support RFS . so you should format cache and data partition before installing custom ROMs.
goto recovery and do this:
wipe data/reset
advanced-> wipe dalvik cache
install zip from sdcard -> choose ROM file
wipe data/reset
advanced-> wipe dalvik cache
reboot

OK. I though to do it this way:
1. Buy USB jig.
2. Go to download mode.
3. Flash TWRP with Odin.
4. Install Android 2.3.6.
5. Flash CWM via Odin.
6. Fix cache problem somehow.
7. Install Android 4! Yay!
For the step 6, how can I fix the cache error?

NOOOO! you should install TWRP with custom recovery, NOT Odin! don't do same mistake again.
this is the proccess:
1- buy usb jig and connect it to your phone.
2- flash Stock Firmware(it must be 2.3.x) with odin! (you can download stock firmwares from samfirmware.com)
3- flash this with odin:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1339640
it's most stable recovery that we have!
4-wipe data/reset
advanced-> wipe dalvik cache
5-install zip from sdcard -> choose ROM file
6-wipe data/reset
advanced-> wipe dalvik cache
7-reboot
and now you have android 4! yeah
Stock Roms have RFS partition type and our custom recovery doesn't support RFS so that mount problem appears. but you can format partitions again and convert partition to Ext4. just do step 4 .

yes it should work. it's just a simple resistor. you can make your own jig:

Are you saying all your apps you've past downloaded are there or all add in Google stock apps? If it's your apps, when under phone setup when flashing new ROM, if you don't want to restore the apps of the past to start fresh, uncheck restore or stop downloads on Play Store start up. To flash new ROM and have fresh start, you also have to WIPE data/factory plus cache and dalvik. Clarify is this is not what you needed.
when i go to the bootrecovery and wipe settings, it says error processing rom manager script. please verify that you are perfoming the back up E: unkown volume for path etc..

I don't think you flashed stock rom like you think you did. To wipe the phone of apps you need to do a factory reset. But when you boot back into the phone make sure you don't check the option to restore your Google apps or it will just redownload again.
Just do a factory reset.

Clear the cache in cwm and see if that helps
Edit, if it doesn't you're going to flash the cache.img in fastboot. That should fix your problem

Sounds like a bad recovery flash to me. Try reflashing the recovery and see if problem persists. The recovery is not working and isn't wiping so that's why apps are still there. Reflash recovery, backup, flash new ROM.

I just got this phone and i have OEM Unlock enabled. I am due to sell my old phone in few days so i am in a bit panic mode right now :\
When i try to flash TWRP along with the instruction that were here (i tried with only applying both or only dm-verity) the phone started to "start" flashing the Samsung logo but nothing happened and after 15-25minutes i tried to install this ROM and it also shows "Starting up please wait" but it also seems to start up indefinately.
Can you tell what is wrong now? It seems i can flash the stock ROM and boot to it but cannot install TWRP/Root nor any custom ROM's :\
Hey bro follow this.
Install stock ROM.
Boot into it once.
And flash TWRP. Disable auto reboot in Odin.
Then boot into TWRP directly from there.
Now swipe to allow modifications.
THEN GO INTO WIPE ADVANCED WIPE AND CLICK FORMAT DATA AND TYPE YES.
After format reboot into recovery once again.
Now again swipe to allow mods.
Now only install Dm-verity.
Reboot.
Now the phone will boot.
Go back into recovery to install your ROM it'll root the phone.

The data wipe did not even succeed. I attached screenshots of data wiping plus no-verity install if there is something anyone could use. I do not really understand how this is so hard... I have never encountered this kind of problem with common phone.

Dude I clearly mentioned, you have to click format data in advanced wipe. First try to read and understand then proceed. Click format data and then type yes and then you're good to go.

Damn. Sorry, i think that when going into advanced wipe there is no format there it's under normal wipe so i only thought that it meant that but yeah my mistake. I should have looked for format data and come to my own conclusions :\
Well first result of format resulted on loop boot and i could not even flash the stock rom with Odin (failed directly) but then i tried to flash TGP ROM via TWRP and it worked! So now i am using the phone as we speak!
