The phone installs the patch via recovery.

But how ?

It's supposed to install automatically. Is your phone 100% stock? You might try entering recovery (from Andy on back with red triangle, press and hold power button while you push volume up once-release both and you should see a list of commands. The button thing can be tricky to do. https://support.google.com/nexus/answer/4596836?hl=en option #2, item 5. ONLY ITEM 5. DO NOT RESET PHONE). Choose Apply update from SD card. If it doesn't find the update, it will either still be in the Android recovery screen from which you can Reboot system now, or just hold the power button until it reboots. You'll have to move up to more complicated attempts (adb sideload).

It's still showing same update available

Is your phone unlocked, rooted? You can download the OTA file to install with a custom recovery module.
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/ota

If your phone are original ( do not root, unlock bootloader...) you can received small sercurity update from GG month by month. Click and waitting update and restart ( maybe 10"-15") . Don'ts restart orr turn off during this time .

[Q] How do I re-root after un-rooting?

Hi,
A few months back, I unrooted my NS4G in order update to the official ICS release. Initially, I was content with the official ICS on my phone, however, I've come to miss the fun mods and features that are available with custom ROMs. Now, I can't seem to re-root my phone.
The bootloader is still unlocked so I tried going into recovery like old times but received a blank screen with an image of the android bot face down with its back door open and an exclamation point (pictured below).
Please help. Although I've rooted a few phones, including this one, I still feel like a rookie and may be missing something very simple.
Thanks!!!

You need to snag a custom recovery and get the current superuser. After that, you will need to make sure you either edit the script or delete the script in the system so it doesn't overwrit CWM.
Recovery fix: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27027436&postcount=8
Superuser:http://downloads.noshufou.netdna-cdn.com/superuser/Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip
CWM
The recovery needs to be pushed while in the bootloader via fastboot
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-crespo4g.img
Recovery first, superuser flash 2nd, fix the recovery last once you've fully booted up.
When the faced down android appears , try pressing volume up button once . Helped me one time.

So how about an update? How are you going with it?
I have had intermittent problems in the past similar to yours, and I was able to solve it - where are you up to?
You should go into a command prompt on your computer then do a fastboot oem lock then unlock. (This will erase all data)
Tell me if this works
Screenshot shows the phone is already unlocked-

I can not update to lollipop!

When you update to version lollipop stays on the screen animation and the nexus dosnt work .
back the nesus to version 4.4 but the camera does not work, and also Google Play message appears (no sd card)
When installing Recovery formate system shows me

Fix your persist partition. There is a guide in general. Check the sticky threads.
It'll stay on boot animation for about 10 mins on first install, while it builds up the system

What method did you use to flash the modem?
Have you tried the manual method for entering recovery? : http://www.android.gs/enter-recovery-mode-lg-g3/
If @cmulk 's suggestion didn't work, try accessing download mode -- with the phone off, hold volume up and plug in a usb cable that's connected to a usb 2.0 port on a PC. If you can get there, you can flash a stock tot (find a guide for that, plenty of them) and start all over from scratch. You'll have to root, install TWRP, and do all of that BS again, but at least your phone will work.

Looks like a softbricked. Skeevydude answer is your best bet. Remove battery, power + volume up then plug in usb to phone and pc.

Rebooting into recovery when rooted

I have TWRP installed and I'm rooted.
I've noticed that apps such as quick boot don't allow me to reboot into recovery. If I select recovery, or fastboot it reboots the phone but the phone comes back to the normal boot again.
The only way I can reboot to recovery is to physically shut off the phone, and use the power and volume keys to go into fastboot and then recovery.
Is this expected behavior?

Can't say that's normal. I use Quick Reboot , or WETA Reboot, or several others. They all reboot into the boot mode selected.

doesnt for me either.
I used the widget option from the TWRP app in the google play store, it reboots in to all options for me.

One, that article provides directions on how to root. The OP ALREADY rooted his device. Two, some of those given commands are outdated. Sometimes, Google is not your friend.
