Google map can't use GPS on KangVip rom - Huawei MediaPad X2

I did a clean install of the original Kangvip B211 V2 rom for my X2, downloaded from Chinese Huawei forum.
The only problem is that Google Map can't use the GPS, other apps can use. How do i fix it?

seems to be a known problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3413708
Very bad for my (planed) usecase ...
Regards thgxda

Well it's a problem of Google Napa.
It does not poll the gps module so it fells asleep.
If you use a second a navigation app in background (i tested with komoot), which optionally tracks your route, then Google maps profits from that.
This is the workaround.
I am this with KangVIP 211 on train for more than 30 minutes.
If I stop the tracking google looses GPS and the dot becomes gray after a view seconds.
If you use a SIM card and have regulary gsm cell location, this seems to awake the gsm moule, too. So I didn't see the problem when I was online in location 'high pecision'
But indeed I saw the problem of non waking up gsm on earlier version of tis Rom during geo cashing in forrest with no gsm at all. I had to reboot to wake gsm. So we must be sure to have a GPS tracker running.
My device: 701->703 B211 xposed 86

Where do you turn GPS tracking on?

In Kommot app start a track.
Also in Google maps, select a destination and start rooting. But this tracking does not poll as often as Kommot.
My device: 701->703 B211 xposed 86

Hi,
I also tried using an old Google Maps version with the same results (see thread URL above) but got same results. The issue seems to be Huawei's GPS handler which goes to sleep PERMANENTLY after it "falls asleep" for the first time, until a reboot.
If someone can please explain with detail the whole connection layers between a typical GPS app to the GPS module (software, drivers, kernel, etc) then maybe we can actually solve this issue. After all, it doesn't occur on EMUI 3.1 Android 5.x!

so are there any fix yet?

Hi unfortunately nobody seems to care and I don't understand why because this is an integral feature of the device and it is a big deal breaker for many. The problem should not be that difficult to solve either because it is only software related and also it does work for EMUI 3.1 perfectly so it could be possible to copy it from there with some minimal work. Maybe someone does have a fix but they are not posting. It's a shame really.

I had no issues with GPS on my KangVIP Slim rom on my 702L (converted to a 703L)

It is a well known problem... You said "had". Do you still have your x2? Anyway, after you install Kangvip b211, GPS works great for a while but will quit working with in 24 hrs then a reboot is required to get GPS working again... This is a 100% fail every time. I think I saw somewhere that the b205 does the same thing. I do believe it's the Marshmallow rom causing the problem... If you could look into it, we would all appreciate it. You are the best on here....

Yeah I sold my X2 to a friend the other day. I honestly didn't have that GPS problem at all. I even used the X2 as my GPS when I drove down to North Carolina. My GPS always worked. Like you said it's probably an EMUI 4 bug but could vary from device to device.

I have not had any problem (yet) with GPS on B211 Kanvip. Car navigation is the only reason I have to own an X2. I use Tomtom.
That said, I acknowledge your problem and hope that a fix is found soon.

If we can get a list of who is having that issue, what model of X2 they have maybe I can figure out a fix. It may be specific to a certain model. My gps never had a single issue on my 702L and I used it a lot so maybe it's more prevalent on the 703L? In system/etc are some gps config files (7 of them) that I can take from the stock rom for each device and make a flashable zip. Maybe the gps files from the 703L (KangVIP) don't work properly with the 702L and have to be taken from the stock B202 (702L) rom. Maybe mine works because I'm converted to the 703L firmware. If the problem only happens on those with a 702L that didn't convert to a 703L and just updated to B202 then flashed KangVIP, then I can probably come up with a fix.

They put out another KangVIP v2 (which this is already based on) on Sept 9th. I don't know what the changelog is though, if there even is one.

AJ, as you know I'm also experiencing this issue:
GEM-703L B211 Stock non-rooted (virgin, not deflowered lol)

does b205 or b209 have GPS issue?

FINALLY got B212 OTA. See informative screenshot lol. I see no difference at first glance... View attachment 3954296
Will test to see if it fixes this notorious GPS issue and report back

Assume NO - why do you want to flash it anyways? You will not find anything fixed, the problems lie in the bootloader.

I'm having signal drop problem with JB and KK modems so I thought i could give a try to 30F to see if it is fixed.
Tried on latest bliss for d800, booted fine but only sensor that works seems to be GPS. Everything else doesn't for me. Flashed back to previous and all is good.

30f but I am on jb sourced ROM so naturally that's expected
Installed 30f in my wife's D800 and everything so far so good. She had some signal problems with GPS nav, lets see if this fixes it. Thanks
Flashed 30f on my d800 running the latest PA (MikeCriggs' 5.1.1 builds). I couldn't get rotation to work. I just want to confirm that it's not patched yet.
I may or may not have a hardware problem, I'm getting intermittent GPS lock loss.
Jellybean: d80010d & d80010o LTE, rotation works, GPS losses lock
Kitkat: d80020c & d80020y , LTE, no rotation and GPS losses lock
Lollipop: d80030f, every 5 seconds, complete loss of radio, rotation, GPS losses lock
I'm on 06/12 nightly, D800, formatted/wiped, gapps-lp-20141212-signed, everything else works. (Same results on older nightlies).
I hate to say this, but is my only option at this point, to flash back to stock and see the the GPS loss follows the hardware and not the roms?
Thanks,
Dylan
Well damn it all to hell. I flashed back to v10d tot stock rom and my GPS still doesn't lock like it should. So it's a hardware problem. That sucks as I love this G2/D800. At least I was able to eliminate the radios as the cause.

Can anyone tell me which modem and bootloader I need to run a 5.1.1 aosp based ROM on my d800 please? I've been scouring all over xda and have been out of the loop for almost a year. hello guys need help, how to go back to stock specially to d8002y i'm currently on custom rom [simple rom] because i want to update to 30f which requires to be on d80020y. from this thread >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-g2/general/update-to-stock-lolipop-d80030f-root-t3084081
Correct me if I'm wrong about the GPS, but I believe it gets geographical lockon hints from WiFi/3g data/radio towers. If you've enabled everything regarding location. Use fastergps and set your closest NTP server through fastergps. This was a more common problem on older Android phones which were modded or imported.

Just choose a Lollipop (LP) modem and bootloader, most of the regional things just optimise it for common basebands for telco companies in that area.
Although I suggest going with AICP Marshmallow + minimal slim gapps. For the best performance and battery life. Launcher wise a customised Nova Premium (increase icon size etc) + the free Polycon icon pack, for the best user experience and design.
Question for OP
I have a stock LG G2 that has the OTA LP 5.0.2 Build LRX22G Kernel 3.4.0
When I upgrade to CM13 do I need to reflash the radios or change the bootloader so I get all my radios and sensors working?
When I first got the phone it was JB then OTA to KK on the same day, then like everyone else, I had the forced OTA to LP WHICH I HATE!!! I loved my home screen rotation with JB and Kitkat.
If i Could I would have this thing imaged back to KK and lock out OTA so it never changes again. BUT I have taken this phone to Tmobile now and they tell me that TMO OTA will not affect my phone because it wasn't a TMO model.

Hi guys..i need a módem for d800 and i have lineage 14.1 build january 2018. I have no signal..what can i do ? Please help me

Need update for 701L.

Hello, All.
I am the new owner of a Mediapad X2 GEM-701L which i have unlocked and rooted.
The only issue is this unit seems to be on B001 (Android 5.0).
I have looked through the threads and most of them are ROMs for 702L/703L. I cant find anything for 701L.
Can i flash a rom from the others on mine?
Android version 5.0 has lots of bugs and the updater doesnt find any new version for me.
What to do ?
i am at a loss here and i figure my only option is to change the device model # to a 703L that way i can force an update.
is this the only way?
The GEM 703L has more support, so if you can change to this one it would be a good elecction.
what are the differences in the 3 models anyway? I realize one model has 32G storage and 3Gig ram.i believe thats the 703?
the one i have is 2/16

The main difference amongst the 3 models is the 4G/LTE band support. The URL below gives you the details under CONNECTIVITY section
http://consumer.huawei.com/en/tablets/tech-specs/mediapad-x2.htm
well i changed everything in the build.prop file that had the number 701 to 703 and did check for update and it said no update.
i even used HiSuite to check for updates. Nothing.
I am now wondering, if i put KangRom and flash with that will it work?

So far Huawei only focused on ROM development and upgrades for the 703.
Some 702 owners in this forum including myself had no issues flashing the 703 stock ROMs up to B109 (starting B106 it is Android 5.1.1) but with the limitation of not being able to switch SIM for the 4/3G. Other than this, the Android 5.1.1 works beautifully for me on my 702 and I prefer to stay on 5.1.1
I've not seen any 701 owner done the same so far.
If you want to try at your own risk below is a good detailed method by "eenap"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/mediapad-x2/general/how-to-flash-rom-x2-gem-703l-gem-702l-t3228915
actually i saw that thread ...
at this point i am rather frustrated cause i dont want to end up with a bricked device.
if i had known this would be so much drama i would have bought a galaxy tab. (even though the mediapad is so nicer).
my only problem(s) right now is this:
in the thread you referenced to he has version above mine already installed. i have b001 which i assume is the lowest.
then
if i can find the original firmware just in-case i screw things over i can restore.

So it looks like the OpenKirin site is finally here and they have their Lineage based ROMs available for download.
Now it does say the 970 is a supported chipset, but it doesn't list the P20/Pro as a device.
From what I can see it looks like EMUI camera and gallery are fully supported.
I'm not rooted etc. but does anyone know who's working on this project or if it can be tested on our device at all?
Would be keen to see a nice working Lineage ROM with full support of the EMUI camera.

1 - YNWA
2 - what would be the advantage of the Treble releases? My dream would be that its more like stock but ..
YNWA
Treble is just a system image, probably won't completely work for every device, probably won't ever be fixed for every device.
Whereas a full ROM, usually only has to be fixed / tweaked once.[
When you install a ROM you flash most of the device and it's generally in a zip format, whereas a treble ROM is an IMG and you flash it only to the system partition leaving everything else intact.

So there's very few custom ROM's here for the Pro, there's one called Romaur and a Lineage ROM, haven't flashed either.
All i did was unlock bootloader, install TWRP and Root, then i've tweaked the OS so that it's faster and more stable.
Themed it and for me that's enough.
I did debrand though so you may want to look at that first, the c432 device is the EU one i think or whats predominantly used in EU countries, mine was the c782 L09 which is the single sim variant from EE.
Changing over to c432 has allowed me to get the latest updates like 120 - 128 and i think at some point b131 will drop.
The c782 afaik is still on 110 which is a bit crap.
Check the guide here to debrand: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76785704&postcount=152 if it's something you want to do.
Guide to install OTA updates when you have TWRP installed and are rooted etc: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76844754&postcount=254
Hopefully there will be more ROM's but at the moment it's extremely quiet.
Treble is a bit of an issue for us i think because the installation method requires the use of TWRP to wipe and i've read somewhere that it can't wipe correctly so it fails when you flash a treble IMG.
There's a few great guides to install treble in one of the threads over in the project treble section, take a look.
I'll get around to installing treble img's at some point but can't today.

If you bought you're device in the UK it's highly likely it's branded (even if there's no visual indications that it is) to a mobile network. Mine was bought via Mobiles.co.uk on 02 network and I assumed it was completely unbranded as there was no bloatware or 02 branding but apparently any updates from Huawei need to go though 02's checks before being pushed out and so updates are slooooowwww. debranding is essentially removing any ties to a network thus you get the Huawei updates as soon as they push them out.

Anyone got Viper4Android to work with this new version? No luck for me. All the methods which worked with the previous version failed. One method got it installed, but it stopped processing as soon as a audiofile is played.
Edit: This guide and files worked (once again) after several installs of the driver and reboots. https://forum.xda-developers.com/poco-f1/how-to/viper4android-patch-miui-11-base-t4039117

Follow this method:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-7/how-to/dolby-digital-plus-viper4-miui-pie-rom-t3958080
After all open viperfx and install driver, device will reboot in loop.
Now go to recovery and flash viper patch:

Works fine in latest miui.eu 11 android Q

After nearly 24 hrs test, I'm feeling some improvement on battery life and the drain is less than previous update
48 hours later: ROM is defective as previous v11.0.4.
crash / reboot / losing app preferences config / mock location unstable / crashing
No such issues with 11.0.4. Did you try to do a factory reset? Usually it helps with such strange issues.

This started happening after OTA update to 11.0.4
I've manually updated to 11.0.6 but same thing.
Thanks for the suggestion. I did that in the past with another Xiaomi device but the thing is that I'd like to avoid losing everything & restart from scratch...
I tried to clean all data/cache for all apps with a cleaner but without luck.
I'm hoping that a newer ROM will be able to fix the issue... Maybe I'm wrong... Will see with next update...
I have sent numerous crash bug reports to Xiaomi but they never bothered to contact me about it.
It seems they don't care or are too busy.
Give it a try, I saw a lot of reports where a factory reset solved such bizarre problems happening after major software change.
After flashing this I find out it is a Chinese ROM not the EU one and having issues with sim card not being recognized.......a lot of issues later I got the Sim card working again so be careful......

"euro" rom !?
do you mean global?
I used the one shared by subhraw here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=81926515&postcount=3
instead of laughing you should tell us why you think it's a chinese only rom...
normally you cannot update a global rom with a chinese rom without doing a flash update
I did NOT use a flash tool (used instead MIUI update option)
so this is probably not a chinese only but a beta global ROM but I might be wrong...

No idea. I still have it.
However, in the past when I've updated I've ended up with a Theme Store (didn't work, but it was there!) Then on the next update, it's gone.
All you can hope is that it reappears next update? Most bizarre £1k flagship I have ever had the mis-fortune to own!

You could try flashing a different region version eg. Oppo Australia website has A23 available for download, flash that over your current version (you won't lose anything).
It's very strange you don't have it as it's a very basic default menu setting.
The Region setting is ROM specific, in the UK the region option isn't there with contract devices as it's running UK carrier ROM which doesn't need another region

But surely the ability to change the region is still required, people travel with their phones all the time and need to be able to change to the country they are in.

Although I understand your point of view, unfortunately I don't work for the ColorOS team, I can only tell you why the setting isn't present in the ROM not why they haven't implemented it
If it is because it's carrier specific ROM, then all you can do, as I mentioned, is turn off auto update and wait for the next global release to appear, and flash that from the website. Global ROM has the region settings. Don't use OTA until you have the global 'clean' ROM installed
Hello,
I have the same problem, (UK unlocked)
I spoke to a lady from oppo on Friday morning who called me back later and told me to wait for the next update as they know of some "glitches" in the software the Region setting disappearing being one of them.
Hope this helps?
But we can't get the updates because of the region is gone, installing a different firmware doesn't bring it back either
Where can I find the global ROM?

Do you know of a global ROM I can install via the recovery?
The last version I know of is Australia .23
the roll back version is .25
But until oppo send out an interim update you will not gain Region setting, if you try it will fail if your software number is higher
It's all down to oppo I'm afraid.

Exectly but I got a fix for that, the NEW rollback file is A.25 , the bugged rollback file was A.23,
So the old rollback file had issues with sim, so I flashed the new rollback file and it fixed that problem, so then I flashed the old rollback file again and it doesn't give me sim issues no more but still have A.23 and yes now flashing other A.23s work now but still no ota updates via vpn
If that sounds confusing, ino it is lol
Hello,
I reflashed the A.25 after reboot over the "fix" ROM A.25
This is the Oppo website for ALL the different countries hope this helps?
Some countries don't have find x2 pro

So you wore on the fixed A.25 then did you do a reflash of the same A.25? Did it fix anything

Did she tell you how we would receive the update because the OTAs or vpns don't work so how would we receive this one if we can't receive the July one?
