Chinese or Samsung battery - Sprint Note 7 Questions & Answers

According to this article my phone should have a safe battery , just wondering if anyone has a phone that says made in vietnam or korea

Not true. The phones that were built for the Chinese market have ATL batteries. The Sprint phones that were built in China have SDI batteries in them. You can download ES File Explorer and look for yourself.

Mine is built in China with SDI battery.

O yea where can i find it?
Sent from my SM-N920P using XDA-Developers mobile app

Use ES File Explorer. Then look in /sys/class/power_supply/battery and open the file batt_type with a text editor.

Yep, made in china with sdi battery.
Ps. You can pretty much use any file explorer you like as long it can look at the system partition.

It means it is one of the bad batteries and you need to exchange it.

Does an sdi battery really mean it's a bad battery or that it is more likely a bad battery than not a bad battery? I ask because I am sure that every sdi battery produced isn't bad. Like how long does it take for the defect to show up, I've had this phone for a couple weeks and have gone through several charging cycles and i am a power user. I have experienced no signs of battery damage or malfunction. I have plugged into a micro is to type c type of situation, standard cable, and i charge it wirelessly at home and let charge overnight. I might be playing Russian roulette but I think I actually got a good one.
This was typed out on my Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Smart Bomb, literally the hottest phone on the market right now!!!!!!

My thinking exactly.
Last I heard, there were about 35 reports of bad batteries? Out of 2.5 million phones.
Odds are pretty good that you don't have anything to worry about. But at the same time, I don't want to be #36.

At this point in time out of 2.5 million phones I believe the failure percentage is like 0.1%

Sigh i am in morning. Returned my beautiful note 7 last night. I miss it. This note 4 (which i loved till the note 7) feels clunky and the fingerprint not working as well as the note 7. I contemplated gong to a different phone but s7 would be the only one that still had samsung pay but its got a smaller screen and i cannot do a smaller screen due to vision. So here i sit with my note 4 counting the days till i can get my note 7 beck

Well a Note 7 phone blew up in a 6 year olds hand.
I went to my local Sprint store and they said they may get stock by end of September. This sucks.

I heard about the child as well. Supposedly the this time the phone wasn't even charging. If this has even happened, i think a lot of people are trying to make a quick buck off of Samsung because of this situation. I mean Samsung isnt even trying dispute any claim, they are quick to settle to minimize their reputation damage and potential lawsuits.

The latest news on the phone that injured the child in New York is that it was a Galaxy Core, not a Note 7.

I'm not sure if that's good or bad

CLN 32GB GS3 has only 12GB of total space?

I recently received a CLN GS3 as a replacement phone for my Galaxy Nexus. They agreed to send me a 32GB model. I received it and under the battery on the sticker it does indeed say "WHITE 32GB". So then why would there be only 11.95GB total available? Do I need to format it or something? Has anyone experienced anything like this?
Thanks,
A confused GS3 owner

Yeah I was hoping not to have to send it back since I've heard some bad things and gotten some pretty horrible CLN devices as replacements before. This one doesn't have any issues other that the storage size and it gets really hot.
Anyway, what's this pit file?

I have read in the rezound forums of people receiving 16gig versions that were marked as 32 and were suppose to be 32. You will probably need to send it back.
Yup its 16 gb version, send it back for replacement...
You got a free GS3. Don't be picky. Plus, my friend is on replacement #8 so you roll the dice big time asking for a new one.

I'm on my 4th replacement and I think they might have finally got it right this time but if they told him they were going to send him the 32gb version (which would match the storage size of his Nexus) then they should def be sending him the right one... I've heard of several people that have got to choose a new phone but they sure didn't offer me that when I went through about a million Nexus's... LOL I admit that I am picky when it comes to replacement phones but when they get paid every month and I pay an "out of contract" price for a new phone than they should be sending me a replacement that does not have scratches all over it... I guess it all depends on who you talk to... :fingers-crossed:
He can get a 32GB microSD for like $20 bucks. Getting into a replacement loop is not worth the risk lol.
Yeah I was considering it, the only other real problem with it is that it gets super hot with even light use.
Do any of yours do that?

So you think I should try for another replacement then? I don't think it's supposed to be this hot.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
Run a cpu monitor app to see how hot it actually is. Hot to one person might not be hot to someone else. If you get some solid info we could probably give you a better idea of what you should do.
When is it hot? All the time or only when you are playing hardcore games? Running hot is not a good thing to have but some replacements could be much worse. Obviously you can get another one but if it isn't really that hot it might not be worth the risk/annoyance of going through more replacements.

Con and myself both coming from the rezound anything up to somewhere around 130F has become normal for me.
An example of where it depends on the person is with the new iPad. People were complaining about it getting to 110F with is a perfectly normal temp to me.
It really comes down to what you are used too, as con said. My rezound would hit 150 when really stressing it. My GSIII hasn't gotten that hot yet.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Like uncomfortable as it in like just warms your hand well or like it is actually like causing a burn? I agree with nosympathy. The Rez was a warm phone. If you were really hammering the 4G it would get pretty warm.
edit: I keep my phone in an otterbox so mine might as well be alot warmer than I think it is. The phone has to make alot of heat for it to go all the way through the otterbox.
Well it's weird because with experience from every phone I've had before this and iPhones and such, I wouldn't expect any noticeable heat. And then the Qualcomm S4 is supposed to be the coolest running processor, yet this phone is much hotter than any Galaxy Nexus I had.

Not even slightly warm? That seems like that's how it should be. I just don't want to risk it if they're all just as hot - or worse.
Also, any specific ROM you use that helps with that?

Thank you I've been looking for one if these to see if it increases my battery. I have a rev10 and from talking with others the rev11 has better battery life. On stock my battery only gave me 2 1/2 hours. Now I get 5 to 5 1/2 but that's due to a custom kernel and other mods. I actually found a guy who had an extra and would sell it to me, but after he agreed to sell it he never logged into XDA again

There are more too just Google nexus 4 disassemble or teardown. Its very easy to just replace the battery just remember the battery is set with double sided tape so be careful. I wouldn't rush getting a new battery, it's not like you can fit it on the go (unless you have a Torx screwdriver with you). You will eventually get decent copies by battery companies and they will be a fraction of the price. No, I don't mean these £2 Chinese copies on eBay that last 10 minutes, but you get some big companies copying batteries for Galaxy devices and iDevices and I'm sure this phone will be no different.

Even batteries from companies like mugen and sedio do not compare well will OEM for the price they charge. Check out this site that did an in depth comparison. They are not much better than those 2 dollar batteries. Its not going to matter though since I don't think they will maybe a battery for the nexus 4 since its not easily replaceable.

My upgrade date is at the end of this month, I've never waited for an month to pass so much since I was a kid. I was going to upgrade to a S4 but I'm starting to lean towards the Note 3. I'm concerned about the size since I'm a small person with small hands. I'd welcome any body's impressions with the Note.
Don't have "young" eyes anymore so bigger screen is a big plus and outweighs the need to two-hand the phone. Radios are much improved. Battery life great. Fast, fast, fast. Seems bootloader unlock unlikely although it can be rooted for now.

Thanks for the reply, I also no long have "young eyes". That was one of the reasons for getting the Charge in the first place. I've compared the S4 and the Note 3, side by side, and I have trouble with the S4 at 50% display power and not the note. That may end up being the deciding factor. I really, really hate having to retrieve my reading glasses to see things on the phone.
LMAO! Four years now with reading glasses and I still can't get used to them. You've just got to try the phone yourself. I'll never go back to anything smaller.

I visited Best Buy today, I've made up my mind after playing with the Note 3. In 19 days I'll be getting a Note 3.
I really couldn't get a real feel for one handed operation(one handed mode) due to it being tethered. But the speed, and being able to read the screen w/o my glasses made the decision easy.
19 days(tapping foot impatiently).
ETA: I'll be missing part of the UCLA/U$C game for this upgrade, it's that important. I've not missed any part of that game since 1978.
Got my Note3
I got my Note 3 about 3 days ago. It's an amazing phone. It's big but easy to read. I'm still getting used to the size.

Is anyone waiting to get the Nexus 5 because of potential defects?

I definitely want to get a Nexus 5 (battery and camera issues aside), but all the reported defects with either the speakers, scratches on the screen, loose buttons, etc are giving me pause. I'm thinking about waiting a month or so until the inventory at the stores gets another batch from LG.
Is anyone else waiting to get the phone until new inventory is replaces with new batches/revisions of the inventory?
How long do you think I should wait before the next batches come out? How long are you waiting?
Just get it. I've had zero issues with the phone.

Echo most of the statements here about good quality device. Still can't believe the value for the price. I've used mostly Sony devices for the past seven years. They launch at one and a half the cost and update the software at least six months after it's released.

Mine works perfectly. But sadly I'm returning it. At&t (straight talk) had better signal yet there is no LTE. I'll be sticking with Verizon. Signal is not as strong but I get LTE in 90% of places.

This phone is flawless. I think most of the "problems" are just people exaggerating or people whose desires are insatiable
That defect thread is poison...
Don't worry about it. That's just a handful of people with issues, it doesn't mean every N5 is defective. If you want one now, get one now. If it has some horrible issue, exchange it for another one. Simple as that.
I don't want to ruin your party but I have 7 dead pixels on my screen and believe me I'm not exaggerating I guess it just comes down to each person experience with their units, I would recommend based on mine to wait.

There were 4 or so revisions of the Nexus 4. It's never wrong to let manufacturers work out the kinks on the first sacrificial lambs.
I'm not really worried about the "defects", I'm waiting more for the dev scene to get cookin... I know I'm gonna wanna flash something as soon as I get the phone. I'm also on Sprint and things seem to be pretty hit or miss with them right now, so I'm giving them time to get it sorted (hopefully).
Just don't wait too long, or you might find yourself trying to decide between the n5 and galaxy s5...

I'm definitely waiting.
Rushed into getting the N4 in first batch last year and regretted that decision.

Same here, but how much should we wait is the question? A month or two or even more?
This could be tracked with the serial numbers of the devices I guess, considering posting a thread about this in a couple of days.
Hopefully they update the inventory in Germany soon.

Yet my Rev 1 is just fine, and always has been.
Another vote for just getting it. 16gb white, ordered within 5 minutes of release and everything works great.

How fast is the speed on straight talk?
Even on HSPA+ I get 16 down with the nexus 5, which is more than enough for anything I personally do on a phone. Including streaming movies.

So because you didn't have any issues that means the thousands of other phones out there never had any? Yes that's intelligent logic.

Many in these forums go out of their way to look for issues (rattling buttons - give me a break - they float in the casing over the actual electrical contacts).
Lots of products get revved throughout their life cycle. It doesn't mean all previous revs were defective.
You can wait if you want to. Hell, I'll probably wait for the nexus 6 as I just don't see this one as that much of an upgrade, and a newer, better one is less than a year away.
I got my N5 day after release day and it is flawless, not a single problem.

Is dumb as the statement may sound, those who feel like waiting should, those who don't, shouldn't.
I'll explain why.
Those who can quickly get pissed of that their phone doesn't have "nipples" (N4 reversion), or the smallest most insignificant change, should wait.
For most people, that never an issue, and they should buy soon, but for me, I was childishly willing to pay $30, to trade with a newer reversion... Luckily I didn't get the opportunity to
