Good morning every1,
I installed NeatRom on my i9100 and worked marvellous for months, now is a living hell! Not blaming the Rom itself but some kind of conflict between hardware and software.
Bug Description: screen strange behavior, in certain conditions won't turn on or will show strange colors, over illuminate or darken display, while at start up it will always work fine.
Trigger: locking the screen normailly causes to blackout but it will not turn on again on most tries, pushing the power buttom or the home buttom is equally uneffective most of the times. However, reseting the phone by removing the battery (since there's no display is the only way) will allow the phone to start normally: normal brightness, normal colors and normal operation everytime.
Fixes tried so far: I've reset the phone to factory, erase all cache, partition and delvik, and reduced the amount of apps to keep ram very low in usage. Also, I've removed the phone cover to check the screen connections, check the cable to see if its not broken and everything its fine. The display is not broken or otherwise damaged.
Opinion: since the display works fine at start up and would be working normally for as long as I don't lock it, I'm discarding all hardware problems of the screen itself; and I've removed all apps to avoid conflct of other software and it still has the same problem. Therefore, I think there's somekind of conflict between NeatRom and the screen (drivers maybe).
PLEASE HELP! :crying:

Hello,
XDA assist is for newbies finding their way around XDA Developers, it isn't a development section.
Please try posting the bug reports in the same thread you found the ROM in order to provide a helping hand to the developers.

Hi guys
I know this issue has been mention a bit, and I've searched through countless threads but I find the search system on the site a little counter intuitive, like forum searches will only bring up the thread, not the actual key word references and I have to search again within the threads to yield results, but I'd like to clarify a few things.
I'm running Cm11 nightlies on the phantom kernel and I have the screen wake issue. It takes multiple attempts to wake up the screen. OK.
I understand this is a problem with Kitkat roms for our device. However, my case is that there is a 50-50 chance that the screen doesn't wake up at all and I have to pull the battery. This makes any rom almost unusable for me as 1 out of 2 times I have to pull the battery to access the phone, Music continues to play, and I can skip tracks or play or pause, and even take photos, which means that the phone unlocks only the screen doesn't light up. If I hold down the power button, I can feel the phone vibrate to indicate the shutdown menu and sometimes I can blindly reboot or turn off the phone by tapping the screen roughly where the menus would be, so the touch is working.
Roms have been reinstalled and dalvik wiped etc but no improvement
I'd like to know if there's something I've done wrong to have so much poor luck. I don;t mind waiting for the screen to light up, or even a few tries, I'm aware of the unstable nature of nightly roms, and I am happy to use it and contribute usage stats to help further development, but not being able to get the phone on is a massive problem, especially when receiving a call
If anyone has any tips, I;d love them to let me know so I can add here as a one stop thread to general KK problems and work-arounds.
Pr m,aybe it's just my phone
Current mods
Xposed framework modules
greenify
kk bugs fixer (currently disable as seems to make no change)
minminguard
no lock home
Xposed gel settings.
No crazy overclocks or aggressive governers (tested with ondemand, intelliactive no difference, but great battery)
General rom experience apart from this - Excellent battery and very snappy, only a little skipping with audio (even with cache increased to 4010)
Cheers people!
try another kk rom
i did not use cm11 b,coz i had problems with the low reciever volume
tryout carbon rom or vanir aosp
they are too good
SOLVED
OK, thanks for the suggestions, actually I had the same issue on all roms that I tried.
The fix was the following, I disabled the NO LOCK HOME Xposed module and now all is back to normal.
i think there was an issue with it auto unlocking the screen on wifi or cel tower that caused the lockscreen to crash from time to time or get stuck. All is working like a dream now.
It~s a shame really, here in Brazilo with the rise of the Iphone and the high robbery rate, it´s quite common now for thieves to stick their gun in your face and demand your password or for you to unlock;disable the password during the robbery so that they can reset the apple acount or phone for resale. With nolock home I could save the cel towers near my home and work (for my walks to and from the subway) so that in case of a robbery, the phone just opens up and shows its unlocked, and then I can remotely wipe it later without giving up account details. Anyway, anybody else with this problem, thats the source of the Issue
Purchased the shield tablet with controller yesterday. It came with 4.4 and seemed to run fine (wifi speed very fast etc) Soon after upgraded to 5.01 and the problems started..
There seems to be the Miscellaneous entry under the battery settings which is using around 40% of the battery according to the info. Battery drain seems to be quite fast.
Since then, today I decided to unlock bootloader and root the device which was successful. Miscellaneous entry does not seem to appear anymore
However there is the wifi issue that has occurred since I updated to 5.01. When the tablet goes to sleep and when I wake it up, connection is lost (and rather annoying where a game needs to download 1gb+ of data). It does also occur while I am using the tablet. Wifi sometimes just disconnects (and the entry on the wifi list for my router is showing as "saved" - clicking on connect, starts it up again..
I have checked through the settings and disabled the wifi off when sleep option as well as gps only for location etc, but still to no avail.
Has anyone encountered and solved this issue on lollipop? Or is this also an issue with 4.4? I did not use it for long before updating to 5.01 hence not sure If that problem would occur then (but seemed blistering fast for the hour or so when I was testing it)
I'm having the same issue. I looked on the forums on their website and it seems this is still a problem for a good amount of people. Can't find any solutions though. Thought maybe a hard reset might do the trick but that didn't help. Pretty frustrating...
Wifi connectivity seems ok when I am near the access point, but seems that the sensitivity somewhat has been reduced since the update (as the connection was more stable and reliable further away from the router on 4.4)
Hows your battery after rooting? Does it still drain horribly?
I have the same problem

THAT DRIVE ME CRRAAZZZYYYY!!!! the same happens to me everyday and I can't find anything about it online.. somebody please solve our problem!
I think I have partially solved the problem. The below is what I have done (Will at some point activate some of these options one by one and see which one would be the main culprit)
Settings->Wifi->Advanced Wifi - Turn off Ethernet override and turn off "scanning always available"
Settings->Wifi->Advanced Wifi - Keep on "turn wifi on during sleep" - Can turn this option off for some additional battery life
Settings->Controller->Disable "enable gamepad mapper" - From other sources it seems that this may be one of the main culprits in battery power sucking
Settings->Location->Turn this off (If wanting to keep on, leave it on GPS only)
Using the above settings, and charging the tablet approximately 15 hours ago, the battery life of the tablet has decreased by only 6% (and currently there is no - miscellaneous showing on the battery option)
There is still the issue with weak wifi (It works perfectly well when the device is near the access point) perhaps a future update may increase the sensitivity somewhat
One other important thing.. I decided to hard reset the tablet after upgrading from 4.4 to 5.01. This may help. Once this is done, then follow the steps above
Did miscellaneous ever come back for you? I did reset and changed all the settings and miscellaneous wasn't there for about 2 hours and then came back. Down to 50% battery with miscellaneous taking up 17%. I'm now wondering if this is an issue with the software or my tablet in particular...
For me, once I disabled the gamepad mapper, I no longer experience the outrageous battery drain issue, and misc. no longer appears in the battery status page and has not returned.

I didn't experience this miscellaneous battery drain until the most recent 2.2 update. When I upgraded to lollipop I did a complete wipe, rooted and unlocked the boot loader. When I updated to 2.2 I just flashed via recovery and wiped dalvic/cache.
I'm wondering if I need to do a complete wipe. I haven't seen any solutions to this, but it's strange that it just now started to be a problem for me.

The main culprit seems to be the "game mapper". - the system that maps the controller to touch screen controls. I guess perhaps updating to 2.2 turned it back on. Turn it off via settings and reboot and see if that makes any difference.

Thanks for the reply,
I turned the game mapper off via settings, and still got the misc. drain, so I froze the nvidia game mapper and a few other nvdia controller system apps via titanium back up and I'm still getting the misc. battery drain. I just wiped the cache, and dalvik cache 3 times, but I doubt that will do anything. It's looking like I will have to wipe and do a clean install, just seems so weird that something that didn't even change the android version number would give me this problem.
It's really annoying as the battery drains soo fast (like 20% just reading a book in my e-reader app)
before I wipe I just wanted to see if others had this problem with the latest update, as it doesn't appear too common I will do a full wipe later when I have time. I hope that fixes it.

I have the exact same issues as you describe. WiFi is about 25% of what it should be even standing right next to my netgear nighthawk. All other wifi devices work fine in the house. Disabled game mapper and my misc is still running the battery down. Tried wiping to factory with no luck. System UI crashes sometimes and the tablet freezes up constantly (especially when using Chrome and Google search). I'm thinking it could be Google play services related but not definitely sure.
Sheild LoLi screen changes orientation, goes black then to homescren
So seems you peeps having same problems I have experienced and troubleshot as well, but here is one I can't figure out...
Playing game (TaiChi Panda mmorpg) which only runs in landscape mode. I will be playing and all of a sudden tablet tries to change orientation away from landscape, the screen goes black (or has game shrunk and stuck in middle of screen) then will go black and puts me at my homescreen which is non-responsive and most times I have to hard power down. I've turned off screen/device rotation and still does it. The problem also happens with other apps and stuff at times as well. I've even turned all notifications etc I could cause thought maybe something was trying to interfere.
I have the screen flicker as well at times, feel like watching old black and white movie way it flickers.
Battery lifes went up with some tweaks found here (ty vm!).
Sorry to bump such an old thread, but has anyone figured out what it causing these issues on Lollipop?
Sony xperia Z3 Dual D6633 Android 5.0.2 Build 23.1.1.E.0.1
Hi there,
Upgraded my Z3 to lollipop last week and, despite the fact that the upgrade itself was flawless, I think I went from a device that used to work like a charm to one full of annoyances.
On day #1, noticed the batt drain skyrocket. 3h after disconnecting it, it was at 68%, half way through the morning. WTF? was my first thought. On a typical day on kitkat, I was able to end the day at 40% at least.
The second thing I´ve noticed was the phone app. It starts giving me errors, saying that the "network could not be reached" when I try to dial a number. If I insist for 4, 5 more times, it crashes. Dialing is only possible again if I reset the phone.
The third thing is the lock screen. It seems that lollipop has a drop down menu that makes it possible to enable/disable lots of things, like communications and even setting the phone in airplane mode. Imho that´s a huge liability / security risk and it appears that there is no way around that.
Still about the lock screen, it seems to have a bug: if you have any activesync account setup, not notifications will show up, no matter how you configure it (to show all or hide sensitive content).
So, I had only one thing to do, after reading forums etc... factory reseting it.
Surprise! All problems are still there.
Does any1 have any tips on those?
Thanks in advance.
There will be a widget on one of the screens which keeps refreshing itself and I found that to be the battery killer on my 6603.
Did you use any specific app to pinpoint the culprit?
1. It is possible that the battery levels are calibrating and will be imprecise for a while after the update, using the device normally for a couple of days will fix it, or at least this is what I observed in many phones I owned.
2. This is very weird and I can't help you with. If not even factory reset did help you may have some corrupted data on one of your contacts maybe? Try to make a thread about this issue on the Sony forum.
3. I noticed that as well, but even on pervious versions you could turn off the phone so I don't think it changes anything. Make sure to disable the multi user options that would allowanyone to add a new user from the lock screen.
4. Another weird thing, I use exchange accounts on my phone and I don't have any problem on mine. See point 2.
Under
settings>sound and notifications>when device is locked
Set to hide sensitive notification content or don't show notification content at all.
This should fix lock screen displaying email notifications from your exchange account.
Also, unlock phone, pull down notifications, pull down again to reveal quick settings, hit the edit button (pencil) and remove icons but clicking and holding and drawing them to the top. Unfortunately this removes them even when phone is unlocked but of your worried about unauthorised toggling of things on off its the best you can do I think.
As for battery drain, check the battery usage in
Settings>power management
Make sure stamina mode is on, toggle it off then on to make sure.
Select battery usage and check to see if any apps are using more than they should. Make sure brightness is set low but enable adaptive brightness under display settings.

That's not a smartphone anymore, with all functions shut down and brightness low.
This phone has the best screen, use it at least 50% brightness.
I have no issues with the brightness down. It bumps up nicely in brighter conditions and will even max out in daylight. If I ever need it brighter then it's easy to boost temporarily. It's a small price to pay for nearly 24 hours of battery with 5 hours screen on time.
I never mentioned shutting down functions. The only thing I mentioned removing was the toggles that concerned the op on the quick settings. Removing mobile data and aeroplane mode from quick settings hardly cripples the device, I never use these anyway.
I don't think it very useful that there's not more customisation available here such as a complete set of separate lockscreen settings. But if all you can do is comprise then what else can you suggest?
I don't think unlocking the bootloader and installing a custom ROM is something the op wants to do.

You said stamina.
Stamina means already some functions off.
Update:
1. Batt drain
Remains without an explanation. My daily use profile is basically the same as before the update. 3PM and I am at 28%, with stamina on. I can´t recall a day, running kitkat, that I would hit the charger at night with 28% of batt remaining (and I still have 4h to go). It was always on 40% ish. GSAM is reporting that 47% of the batt drain is caused by apps and, from that, 30% is represented by android core apps + android system + kernel. I might be wrong, but I think it is related to reindexing, contact + agenda sync etc and it will probably get lower eventually (I hope!)
2. Phone App giving errors
I think I have isolated the problem. It seems to be caused by TrueCaller.
3. Lock screen
Regarding the drop down menu, It is clear now that what I think is a problem is, in fact, by design and there is no way around it without rooting. But regarding the notifications, I just removed both activesync accounts and I started getting notifications in the lock screen again. So, my guess is that there is a policy of some sort that is being interpreted by the phone as it should hide all notifications from the lock screen.
In fact, there are lots of things that got blocked / disabled because of those policies. Here is a list of things that were disabled and now appear to be working again, after the removal of the activesync accounts:
. notifications are showing again in the lock screen;
. smart lock;
. screen lock options (none, swipe, pattern);
note: I thought that I would be able to enable services in Accessibility, like LastPass or App Advisor by Norton, but it still does not work (I try to enable any of them, but pressing "ok" on the warning dialog does nothing and the only option working is "cancel").
Thinking about resetting it again...
Hi, if problems are persistant you can always downgrad software at KitKat by using FlashTool and wait Lollipop 5.1 (5.1 will probably solve many problems).

A new firmware version has dropped for the Z3 which I think fixes your issues with notifications.
I received it OTA yesterday, I'm running the Balkans customisation.
Thank you for the tip! I hope it does! Will keep it posted here just for the reference. I am starting to feel other "symptoms" as well, like bluetooth instability (you pair a device and it stops working, have to pair again).
.
Just hit another weird thing.
I am not being able to create a new vpn connection. I am trying to use the PureVPN and IPVanish client software, but when I try to setup the conection, I receive a disclaimer, saying that my traffic might be monitored, with a "CANCEL" and "OK" options. The OK doesn´t work, only "CANCEL".
My device is encrypted and I have also noticed that I am not able to decrypt it.
Also, If I go to Accessibility and try to enable a service, the same thing happens: a disclaimer appears, saying that the service might observe my actions, with a "CANCEL" and "OK" options. The OK doesn´t work, only "CANCEL".
Any ideas?
Ok, just a quick fup: the ability to create VPNs from apps is disabled if you encrypt the phone. It seems that if you create if before encrypting, it won´t be disabled; but you wont be able to create a new vpn from an app downloaded, after encryption.
Regarding the Accessibility > Services, after a *lot* of research, I have found that Twilight was the culprit. For the reference:

Hello everyone, I'm in trouble.
22 Ultra is simply eating battery at indescribable levels. Yesterday we went on a trip from work, I left my home with 100%. During the day I did not touch the phone, a bit of a camera but beyond that really nothing. My battery was about 40% after about 3 hours, with no screen use at all! On the other hand, a friend at work with Xiaomi came out with 100% and after 3 hours was on 85, and he did touch the phone here and there.
I don't know how that makes sense, and it's no longer clear to me what to do to solve the problem. I debloat, deleted and disabled a number of irrelevant apps but still, the battery is being eaten. How can I solve it? Please help me!
Draining battery so fast, 20% per hour while idle is not normal, so you definitely have a problem.
It looks that there are two possibilities here:
- Battery malfunction
- Some active process in the background that is using lots of processor power constantly.
If battery is damaged / not working properly, the only solution is to replace it. Still, this doesn't look like a case of duying battery.
If you have some persistent process running in the background that you can't get rid of by debloating, it can't be stopped by restarting the phone, and its not visible in the battery usage section, i would say that factory reset is the most effective option here, since you stated that you tried to deal with it in a various ways already.
You could also wait a bit until you get chance to update to OneUI 5 / Android 13, which should solve your problem, if it's software related.
Hope that you will find solution soon

Try to wipe your system cache.....it won't do a factory reset but might solve the issue while keeping your phone as it is.
Volume UP button along with the power button until you see Android screen
Scroll down with volume down until you reach wipe system cache and reboot
sometimes, it won't show up while you press the buttons....in that case, connect your phone to your PC/Laptop with any USB C cable and then do it.
Second solution, you can try Samsungs App Booster.....get an apk from the net. It generally helps as well.
Hello,
I own my device for 2 years now and last week I decided it was time for a fresh restart and did a factory reset without any issues...well, until yesterday.
Suddenly, out of the blue, in games like Marvel Snap (card game) and Twitter app, the touch screen becomes unresponsive - only power button to turn screen off and fingerprint unlock works until phone thinks it is okay to respond again.
Weirdly, it gets worse while on Wifi and I notice a slight heating up during such temporary freezes.
My phone is practically useless especially while on Wifi now and doing a clean-up, a BitDefender sweep, changing performance settings did not work. I have to mention that it got worse when I set the power profile to ultimate performance so I am beginning to think there is some kind of overheating issue.
I am on MIUI 14.0.1.0 if that helps in any way. I keep all my apps updated.
Do you have any ideas so as to diagnose the problem here?
Thanks in advance.

Heat causing hardware issue could be possible.
A backup phone and migrate data and apps just in case.
Changed refresh rate to 120hz and uninstalled TorBrowser and the issue seems to have disappeared.
Took refresh rate down to 60hz and it happened again instantly. For some weird reason, 60hz seems to be the problem in my case.
I got stuck at "post reply" button for a few seconds just now.
Nah, nothing seems to work. The issue persists. Videos keep playing - anything happening real time keeps on, but touch controls get stuck/extremely sluggish at best.
