[Completed] I need a basic rundown of rooting benefits. - XDA Assist

I recently bought a Moto X Pure from an XDA Member which should be here at the beginning of next week.
I used to own a GS5 which as you know is pretty locked down. Locked bootloader, hard to root, if you updated you're screwed, ect. So! I've been out of the rooting game for a while now and only really dipped my toes in to begin with.
My question is, can anyone explain the basics and benefits of a rooted device? Specifically, Xposed Framework/Modules, Root detection with Android Pay, and maybe some things that i've gotta try out with a fully unlocked android device. I plan to install an AOSP ROM but im gonna try out stock Moto X first and see how i like it.
Another short question I have regarding Android Pay, i've heard that some root techniques make Android Pay not work, some are fine, some custom ROMs wont work, AOSP roms will, can somebody clarify all this for me?
Thanks guys, you're always helpful. Glad to be back.

[Completed] Steps for installing custom rom on HTC Desire 700 dual Sim

Hello people,
So I've been using this phone for quite some time(HTC desire 700 dual Sim) it's running on stock Android which is 4.1.2(it sucks, I know) I am not super good at phone and stuff but I am quite interested and I have already rooted this phone. The problem is that I cant find a custom recovery and custom rom (I would like any new ones, like android 6.0,which obviously will never make it officially into) so yes, I prefer 6.0 or similar ones... I would like to request you guys to help me in this. Would like detailed step to step instructions. I know my phone is stupid and I should replace it but atm I am not willing to buy anything since I have to pay rent. Thank you all. Sorry for my bad english.

[Completed] Guidance for undertaking a new root

I have owned a ZTE Axon Pro for about 5 months now and no root has come out for it. I'm very upset with the software updates that ZTE is pushing for my device and would like to be able to flash a custom ROM but no root is out for the device as of now. I have a fair amount of experience with Linux and programming and would be interested in undertaking the root myself, but also don't want to brick my phone on the first try. I also have no idea where to even get started and was hoping for some pointers. It'd be great to bring value to my beautiful phone and others that have the same phone.

[Completed] Root, Custom Rom, Update, Kernel, Bootloader - procedures I don't know

Hi XDA experts
I am newly registered in the forum, but experienced in modding (more or less). But I am (for now) strictly a user, not developer.
So far I got along very well, with my beloved Galaxy S4 jfltexx. I got from stock to rooted stock, from there to cm, instantly back to stock, used it for a long time and am just now on cm13 nightly, which is truly awesome!
It is so awesome that I would really like to help other people out, even if they have no idea about this. Meaning I wish to modify other peoples phones for them. However, when it comes to other peoples property I can't really fight my way through technical terms I don't understand anymore, hoping that the outcome will be as I wished. I pretty much know what most of all these technical terms mean, but I don't always understand how they are related to each other. I know, explaining this will take a while, but I would REALLY appreciate it if someone would take the time...
The bootloader, can it be replaced? What would be the purpose of that?
What do custom ROMs typically consist of? An entire working system? Parts of a working system? Sometimes this sometimes that?
I'm asking the question because I got the impression that some custom ROMs require the user to have a certain (usually stock) ROM in order to flash it. For example, if I had a Galaxy S6 edge running 5.1.1, could I upgrade to noble ROM Marshmallow?
I also have the feeling that the ROM or system or whatever is somewhat seperate from the kernel. What is this relation? Do custom ROMs not always come with a compatible kernel? Is there only one kernel compatible to the rest of the system, or is there a chance to run a system with a kernel not particularly designed for it? How to get a 'wrong' kernel?
My Nandroids only run on my phone, right? I couldn't just flash them on my friends (same model) phone!?
Where to get stock ROMs and who provides them? If I wanted to upgrade from Lollipop to Marshmallow, but am rooted and don't get OTA updates, what do I do? Assuming that Nandroids are bound to a single device (e.g. MY phone) who can provide a stock ROM that runs on my device and how does he get it?
Can I run pure Android on any phone, or is it (always?) necessary to adjust it? I understand that my hardware buttons of the S4 would probably not work on pure Android, but the rest?
Thanks guys

Announcement , I will drop the support for LG G7

At first hi to all of you , you might know me I made twrp and the first root and patched stuff to be able to run AOSP , so but lately I came to the conclusion that the g7 is just not a good device for devs , so I unrooted installed stock and relocked my boot loader.
From this point of time any given support for the device by me will be ended and never picked up again.
Im sry but if u like the device and want rom etc you need to do it yourself now

Hi, so sad to read this, but thanks for your great work. Can i ask you why you stop with this awesome phone? What is the main problem?
Sorry to hear those news, J0SH1X. Same question as kimo9hero, what did lead to the decision of yours? (If you allow us asking
@J0SH1X thanks for all your work, but I think we're naive if we consider any recent LG phone "developer friendly" since all their latest models were lacking support even from the company (very late updates).
Guys there is hope that we'll see modding and roms for our g7?
I don't think so, without at least one enthusiastic dev it's not possible. There are no resources so any potential dev have to figure everything out by himself, constantly risking to brick an expensive device. Luckily, the stock 10f rom works real well and the hardware is superb. One just risk living without some typical root utilities.
I would be happy for some dev picking it up, but I don't count on it.

questions about having root access, twrp and Android Pie

Well.. I own a Galaxy j4 model sm-j400m and I have been doing research before going to mod it and root. Some days ago Samsung posted via the Samsung members app that they will release Android Pie for this device on July. So the question is...
What will happen with the recovery? What about root access?
Should I keep the original rom with no root and update to pie and then root?
Also I request a complete guide introducing this device and how to root and get TWRP. Yes I know that there are some other posts about.. but I want one explaining everything noob-proof. I'm still learning about this device. Same with Android Oreo. It's not easy for me to adapt to this new system version since I just switched from lollipop.
Please reply if you can. I just want to research everything and allow this post to be useful for everyone who has the same device.

Unless the security features will be updated in any way, I would think we'd be fine. After all, it's just a new operating environment and should have no affect on custom recoveries and the like. However, a) no one can guarantee anything until it actually comes around, and b) I'm pretty sure that if you upgraded, unless you had any persistence at all, you'd need to re-root.
Your best bet would be to just stick with 8.1 for a while until we get the green-light that everything works on Android Pie.
As for the noob's guide, I'll try my best to write on (the Chicken's way!).

Well... I think the same of sticking for a while with Oreo since I don't even have been using for more than a few days. So I'm still new to it. I still have to learn a lot. I want to understand this system before moving to another and also let's wait til pie becomes more mature. I'm not a fan of upgrading fast. I prefer update when everything works. So let's say that I'll keep on Oreo ... Let me root first hdhdhs...
Later.. like end of the year or maybe the next I would consider upgrading to pie.
About the guide... Well.. it would be handy to have some help.. I think this thread needs and deserves a noob-proof guide for rooting and everything that's has to be known.
Regards from Santiago, Chile.
