[Q] Will any micro usb work?

I am thinking about ordering this:

But was wondering if I should spend the money and get a LG issued micro usb and car charger.
Anyone have experience with these chargers?

Hmmm that's alot of stuff for such a cheap price. Makes me wonder the build quality of that stuff. I might stay away from that. Just my opinion though. But to answer your question, I use a micro-usb cable I got from newegg. I also use the car charger I got with my MyTouch Slide a year ago.

First thing I thought was "too good to be true" and in my experience cheap stuff brakes stuff.

Yeah I think the quality of those accessories is probably quite low. If you want a good micro-usb cable I ordered 3 of these about a year ago and still use them today and they work fine on the G2x for data transfer and charging:

I still have my micro usb charger I used for my blackberry curve (2 yrs old). I would assume that would work. I wonder if the old wall charger would work as well.

Those chargers are pretty much worthless. You need a high amp charger. The phone comes with a 1amp or 1000mA charger. If you buy a cheap charger that's 500mA for example you take more time to charge your phone. If the charger is really weak then you might not charge at all or even drop you battery levels while connected and using your gps in your car.
Note these are Blackberry and Motorolla OEM products that will work with your G2X. I use these and they are fine. They are both under $5 each at Amazon.

I can tell you you get what you pay for.
I buy stuff like that for coworkers and everthing is still working fine except car chargers breaking because of rough handling of the chargers. Evething else is alive and kicking.
If you decide to get it let me know how the car charger, Charges the phone, and make sure to post pictures because some times picture are diffrent from what is posted on the web.

I removed the LED since it's hardwired to the car.
Grated, if you want to move the charger from car to car it's not ideal to hard-wire it... but eh.

The case was serviceable (I won't use it fulltime, but for what I paid, I wasn't expecting much-- it's good for putting my phone in for when it's in the car, sitting on the dash, so that it doesn't slide around while I get GPS maps). The car charger works pretty well. But the USB cable...
I was experiencing battery drain from my phone while it was plugged into my desktop PC's USB with the aftermarket cable.
The next day I tried it with the one that shipped with my phone from LG and it works just fine.
For reals, has anyone experienced battery drain with an aftermarket cable while it was plugged in?

Well typically USB doesn't have enough juice to power the phone while you are using it. It might in some cases but with WiFi, the screen, GPS, or whatever... you probably won't be charging the battery much if at all, and in fact might be losing power.
The same with USB chargers. The better chargers provide more power where most only provide the standard 5v (just like a desktop) so with heavy usage (GPS, screen, bluetooth) you might not gain anything.
I'm not sure about PC's because computers follow the standard of 5v and I don't think they will send more over the cable. A bad cable will have more resistance and probably not do as good of a job but overall should work.
The answer is any microUSB cable will work because it is a standard. Chargers (home and car) should provide more power to give it a faster charge.
Some Chargers are able to do "fast-charges" which I know the G2x can handle. I have a Microsoft Zune charger and it devastates my battery charge times. I'll be full in like 30min.
Typically batteries like a slow progressive charges though, which seem to last the longest. Oddly enough, I get the best battery life by charging my phone via my USB port on my Cable Box (haha).

As long as the charger's output is 5V then you're good. The higher the milliamp output on the charger the faster yourphone will charge.

My phone charges just fine when I'm using while connected to my computer via USB.
It's the amperage that counts when it comes to filling up your battery. I've used .5, .6, .8 and 1 amp wall adapter and car chargers. The 1 amp charges much faster but, if I remember my USB spec, that's all that was allowed until Apple came along PCs are typically restricted to 500 milliamps (.5 amp) so it's a little slower but still enough to charge it., even under use. I suppose if you have GPS seeking satellites and the display turned up all the way you may draw more than 500 milliamps but I'd be surprised.

Chargers left in hotel, where to buy? (retail store)

Searched around and found that monoprice.com is the go-to for cables/chargers..but I'd like to get one TODAY. At which retail store can I find the best price to replace the stock wall charger and usb cable for our epics?

Luckly you can just use your computer or laptop to recharge your phone for now.

If you cant wait to buy one off e-bay i would go to walmart. They have all kinds cheaper chargers.

Walmart has one that fits Samsung Epic (says so on the package), but I had one from there that would lock my screen while charging (took it back and they didn't have another). My other one from Walmart has always worked fine. If you don't need a wall charger, they have car chargers too. Also if you can find a Radio Shack they have them. Sometimes Truckstops have them. Anyways, chargers have gotten to be like reading glasses at my home and work, they are everywhere!

I second the laptop/computer charging for now. Don't give those retail stores the satisfaction of ripping you off!

left the charger, probably left the cord too. fortunately enough anyone that has electronics now usually has a $5-$10 USB->microUSB cord. just plug it in to your computer and skip the wall charger

IDK where you live, but in a ohio theres a chain of stores call "Big Lots" use to be "Big and Small lots".... any who, they sell universal chargers for 6 bucks. I bought one of these as I wait for my better charger to be shipped form china via boat for 2 dollars.

any dollar tree should have a 4 or 5 dollar fire hazard charger.

Pay for a charger?! Don't you guys know that all you have to do is go to the front desk of any large hotel, tell them that your mom left her phone charger in a room a few weeks ago when she was passing though, but you don't know esactly when or what room, and they'll have a box of chargers for you to rummage through. You'll be able to take your pick of micro USB chargers from any OEM you want. Except Apple. People call or come back for Apple chargers.

I have to say that I *loved* the Big Lots comment. My father went there one time and bought two Duracell car chargers for my mother's LG phone for $8!!!! He didn't even know what type of interface she uses, (it's micro USB,) but for that price, he just bought the two and figured one would work.
Fry's Electronics and Microcenter have really cheap Micro USB cables that they'll have in 50-gallon drums at the entrance of some of their stores.

Spend the 15-20 bucks at Radio Shack for a decent quality charger that won't degrade your battery faster because of unsteady voltage output.

I recommend an iGo Charger from Radio Shack. Best investment in my opinion since you can just buy the interchangeable plugs and never have to get another charger again, at least until the thing poops out. Have had my two car and one home charger for several years now. Plus I like the Y-adapter that lets you charge two things off the same charger.

Cheap wireless charging plate

Anybody else tried this charging plate ? I just bought one from eBay and it works 100% with my lumia 820 just by putting it on the mat!

Wireless Charger
Could you tell me what the benefits are when using this wireless charger compared to the regular charger? I've seen some videos about it and, to me, it looks pointless having a wireless charger, which is in fact, wired. The only difference that there is, or so I think, is that you don't have your phone directly connected with the charger via micro usb cable - you put it on the "plate", which is wired to the charger itself and you charge your phone. What I'm trying to say is that either of the chargers limit you by the cable and I don't see the "wireless" in the wireless charger. All it does is save you a second to unplug your phone. Again, that's what I think. Your opinion may be different and that's why I'm asking you to tell me the benefits

a) You can place your phone down and charge it without searching for a cable that's slipped down the back of furniture
2) say you run a café - put these on the tables to allow customers to charge and stop them plugging random ass chargers into your sockets
III) It's a fad, but freaking cool - WIRE LESS charging. Sit and think about that.
Also, it's on a mobile phone, so saying it's pointless is slightly hypocritical as it's attached to a device that's USP was not needing to be plugged into the wall

Thanks just ordered one of the Qi Mats. Pemda obviously hasn't had any failed leads or charger ports. Im on my 5th or 6th lead with my M9, all fail after a while.
On my m7 i have had 3 new charger ports fitted by HTC, no worrying about the charger port on my lumia

Wireless Charger Question

I bought a Qi Charger off Amazon and it was delivered today. Nice 3 coil one by ZOER. It didn't come with a wall plug and needed a 5V/2A one so I purchased one as well, total came to $28 for both.
My Question is, does everyone keep their Wireless Charger plugged in at all times and just set their phone on it when needed? Or do you plug it in when its time to charge?
I want my products to not die on me within a month which is why I'm asking. If its OK to keep it plugged in that's what I'm Going to do. I've attacked Images of the Charger and the Plug I got.

I keep mine plugged in all over the house. My wife and I both have XT1225 phones. So, Qi 3-coil chargers everywhere: 2 in living room, 2 in bedroom, one in office -- even one at my mother's house when I visit.
Keeping them the chargers plugged in does not hurt them. Nothing is actually happening until you put the phone on the charger.
When I get home from work, I put my phone on the nearest charger.
3-coil chargers are best for our phones because it will hit a charging coil almost no matter how it's placed.
The tilt chargers are best as you can see notifications while the phone is charging.
And yeah, you need at least a 2 amp wall plug for these 3-coil Qi chargers, so you did good.

Is the Qi Charge as fast as the Turbo charger?

No, It only charges at 1000mah and takes about 4 hours to complete a charge on our phones. However it prevents wear and tear on the micro usb port, is mighty convienant and you can just set it on there to charge when sleeping and it'll be full by morning

CHOETECH USB-C to USB 3.0 Cable

Hi everyone,
So I am here again to quickly give my thoughts on another CHOETECH accessory, this time it is their USB C to USB 3.0 cables.
I have had a cable previously from Rankie, but have found the build quality to not be as sturdy as the CHOETECH ones. These ones are flexible, feel strong with their braided cables, and the design is excellent and looks very professional, very nice on the eye to others who may see them.
The data transfer is fast, as you would expect from USB 3.0! The charging is on par with other cables.

I too have received these at a discounted price to review and must say the following:
These cables from Choetech are again of amazing quality. Especially as they are braided. I love the fact they came in two different colours meaning one matches my Nexus 6P in black and the other matches my Pixel C in grey. They are a good length to use at a desk and have good file transfer speeds to a computer when plugged in via USB 3. The charge rate isn't as quick as USB C to C but that is to be expected, however do not let that fool you, they still charge pretty quick although usb charge booster on my motherboard may be helping with that more than anything, but it's comforting to know these cables can handle the extra power sent down by my motherboard. I highly recommend these cables and would buy them again especially from Choetech.

Just a word of warning, I bought accessories from their official Aliexpress shop including USB-C to USB-C cable and car charger. While using the two I managed to destroy USB port on my Nexus 6P.
I plugged the cable as I was leaving a concert day before yesterday and as I was driving home I started to smell something like electric parts burning. At first I thought that it is the smell of the brushes on my car warmer blower. Blower has been making strange noises lately. But as the smell started to get more intense, I was really worried that my car is going to burn. I unlocked my 6P and noticed that the battery was not charging and yanked the cable. The plastics on the cable were like butter and pretty hot! I panicked and pulled the cable out, disconnected the charger and continued to home. It was late in the evening and I couldn´t see what had happened to my phone.
As I got home I tried to charge my phone and it didn´t charge. I noticed that battery has gone from 87% to 56% in about hour. The backside of my phone was melted little and there was damage around the USB port.

I asked about this from Choetech via Aliexpress and they were sorry. They asked if I wanted another cable to substitute the melted one. I haven´t replied yet.

Never heard of the Aliexpress shop always bought them from Amazon. Sorry to hear about your device, however its probably more likely the charger than the cable as i've been using 3 of these cables and had no issues over the last few months now.

Aliexpress is a small time business somewhere around far East.... You should try it sometimes.
I was using Choetech charger atm, which I bought on same order with the cable. I can´t blame any other than Choetech for destroying the phone.
