So after going through the hassle of flashing stock firmware, CM12.1 is finally working without any bootloops. However, now that the bootloops are fixed, I am noticing another (albeit much smaller) issue. Whenever I use headphones, there is a small but noticeable static distortion. I can confirm that the headphones are not at fault as they sound perfectly fine on my PC. I can also confirm that it is not an issue with the phone itself as it sounded fine before flashing CM12.1. Is there anything I can do to fix it?

For some reason the microphone on my Sensation is no longer working
The microphone is incredibly quiet (shouting sounds like a whisper), but there is obviously still some response. Occasionally I get a "popping" noise from the microphone.
I'm trying to work out what could have caused the issue. I'm using Albionman's CyanogenMod 10.1 Jellybean 4.2.2 Rom and no other users have reported a problem with it. The only thing I can think of that might have caused an issue is flashing a new radio and RCdata.img file. I've tried changing the radio and it's not made a difference, but I'm not sure if there's any way of getting rid of the RCdata? Could the radio even make a difference to the microphone?
Does anyone have any other ideas for fixes or ways to find out if this is a software or hardware isse? Any help people can offer would be great! :good:
Quick update and some extra info:
I've tried flashing different ROMs on there and it's made no difference. I get the same whisper level sound in calls, sound recorder and video.
Does the video use the two microphones separately to record sound? If so, if one was broken then I'd still expect the sound to be a lot louder than it is (though obviously not normal volume). The chances of both microphones breaking simultaneously seems kind of slim...
Replaced microphone... still not working
So today my replacement microphone turned up and I set to work replacing it. I plugged it in and powered up the phone to check it was working and I STILL have no microphone :crying:
This leads me to believe that it must be a software problem, so does anyone know what things can affect the microphone? I've tried different ROMs, different radios, taking the SD card out and seemingly everything else
Any ideas?????
Edit: sound is exactly the same with microphone unplugged completely
I flashed the stock RUU yesterday and the microphone came back
I then foolishly decided to try installing a custom ROM and the microphone stopped working. I thought I'd be able to flash the stock RUU again and fix the issue but this time flashing the stock RUU didn't work :crying: I'm wondering if I've got a bad sector on the ROM or something... :crying:
again install stock RUU then

Yeah, I did... several times. It hasn't worked this time though for some reason.
I've got this really annoying issue that I keep somehow getting rid of, but it comes back on it's own.
Any sound that plays from the phone e.g. Ringtones, YouTube, Poweramp, etc...
The audio levels get clipped, like something is trying to adjust the gain of the sound, parts that should be loud are not loud, but instead clipped to a really low level.
I've disabled AudioFX, cleared the data for it, and disabled the audio settings within Poweramp.
I've tried to get an example of it with my camera, but of course it's not doing it when I pull out the camera, next time Poweramp does it, I'll record it.
If I receive a call it clips the ringtone sometimes, but I tried calling the phone a second time and it didn't clip.
Really don't know what's going on, just want the audio to work properly.
I'm on 33R, Unlocked Bootloader Rooted.
If anyone knows how to fix this, I'd be really happy.
Could anyone also recommend an app that's like Poweramp, but free? I like it, but it's not quite right.
Removed Poweramp and the problem appears to be gone.
Even though I had all the audio settings disabled in Poweramp?
Still having the issue...
I have no idea what to look for now.
I seem to be having the same issue occasionally. It doesn't bother me overly much though. I just don't think the internal speakers of of the highest quality but everything else on this device is superb
I do however believe at least some of the issue is caused by the fact the the speaker grill holes are quite small so when the volume is high a lot of air pressure is created in the speaker cavity which may attribute to the the problem.
It's purely software.
Happens with the volume at 50% as well.
I have this issue too. Thought it was my headphones so tried all my pairs and it happens on all of them. Its an issue the Nexus 5 has as well and it has to do with how the phone handles the signal from the towers from you're carrier. As to my knowledge there is no fix for it yet.

I switched to SlimKat ROM, haven't had the issue since my last post in this thread.

So are the working on a fix or how do we fix it? Because its annoying af.
Just wanted to report in again.
Still haven't had the audio clipping issue since switching to SlimKat.
The audio issue was really the only reason I had to even bother trying a ROM other than CM11S.
My experience with SlimKat on I9300 was a no-brainer to be the first ROM to try on my One.

Running PA 4.6 Beta and its horrible. I can't stream one song on Spotify with out it clipping through. May be downloading SlimKat tonight to give it a go.
I still get the clipping on Slimkat, battery life is great tho.
Which build? I'm on Stable 7.0
When I call someone, the ringing sounds kind of funny, but other than that, every other sound works perfect so far.
First, my apologies if this has been covered elsewhere but I don't read every post and XDA gets so much traffic that searching cold usually doesn't work well (and hasn't) for issues like these.
A bit of background.
I've used CM10.2, and loads of CM 11 nightlies and snapshots and have had the following issues on my One S
1) CM 10.2 crash happy. yes, I did do a factory reset and clean install. A couple of times just to make sure the problem wasn't me.
2) Went to CM11 and have the following issues consistently
1) Bluetooth crackle. usually after a fresh install things sound fine. After a few hours or a day the audio will start to crackle, almost like all the highs are clipping.
2) Bluetooth range. Much like the last one things start off ok but when the crackle appears, the range also drops to nothing. I can have the phone in my front pocket while I'm walking and experience regular signal drops and loss.
3) Audio playback through the ear speaker doesn't work except for phone calls. Everything else only works through a headset or on the back speaker.
Most everything else works well but these items are a deal-breaker. I've tried several CM11 based ROMs and Carbon and had the same problems.
Am I doomed to go back to stock? In the end I need something that works but also can get the latest security updates and Tmo has dropped this phone like a hot potato.
Try Viper.
Well, my initial attempt resulted in a phone that only boots to recovery.
Going to try to temporarily go back to CM since I need a working phone this afternoon
So, I ordered OnePlus One from the Swappa Boneyard for $185US. The only issue that was advertised was that the stereo speakers were not working and had been replaced, but still didn't function. I can hear media and call audio through the ear piece, but I am stuck using headphones and a Bluetooth speaker for an actually audible media audio experience.
Until recently, I owned another OnePlus One that encountered the dreaded sim card slot failure. The motherboard isn't modular, so replacement of it is was possible. But, it had 100% working speakers.
I played Dr. Frankenstein and swapped the motherboards in hopes of having a fully functional device. Unfortunately, the sound still does not work.
My initial conclusion was that the speaker I/O on the motherboard was faulty, but now I am seeing others with the same issue (rerouting of stereo speaker audio through the earpiece or having no media audio at all).
I have tried using Soundabout and Clean Master to clean up any residual files, flashing OxygenOS, and have even switched ROMs several times (clean installs, of course). But with no luck.
Obviously, the warranty is void now. So I'm turning to my fellow XDA hackers and OPO users who may have had experience with the same issue for some tips.
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.
With love,
MikeCriggs
Hello,
Try flashing *fastboot* images of CM11S 44S version and troubleshoot your issue on it or you can flash ColorOS images
I found similar thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/help/speakers-t2875100

I already saw that thread and it wasn't too helpful for me. I will, however, fastboot flash back to CM11S and see if that makes any difference. It may not work, but it can't hurt. Thank you for the suggestion.

Mike, did you ever get your speakers working? I'm having the exact same symptoms. No sound from the speakers but wired headset and Bluetooth headset both work. Flash to LineageOS made no difference. I replaced the speaker module but it made no difference. I'm guessing it's either the motherboard or the flex cable from the M/B to the speakers module. I don't have another flex cable to swap however.
Hey guys,
So today my Pixel has been acting weird. I was listening to spotify on my phone's speakers and it suddenly got really quiet. Then a few minutes later they acted fine again. Now they wont emit any kind of sound, even the boot noise. But, when I plug in my headphones or bluetooth to my car all the sound works. Any ideas? Im running 7.1.2 rooted with EX and viper. I tried using SoundAbout to force sound through the speakers with no success.

try flashing the full stock pixel image and test speakers. (give it a day as it may work for a bit after flashing.)
this may seem like a software issue since it may work after restoring stock for a bit but it probably isnt.
if you still have the issue and its likely you will, contact google or your carrier depending on where you purchased it, to get a replacement. this is a known issue due to poor soldering.
Thanks Exad. Reverted everything to stock, did a factory reset, and nothing. Google is just going to replace it. Thanks for the advice.
