Internal Storage Encryption - Honor 8 Questions & Answers

Does this phone encrypt the internal storage? I don't see any option to enable it anywhere on the phone...

It's quite weird that there's no option in the menu...

I was going nuts about this as well but found an answer in the user manual. I can't post the link but it's easy to find when you google "frd-l0[4,9] user manual"
Apparently they claim that it is encrypted by default and I guess that's why there's no option to encrypt it.:
Full-disk encryption
All data on the memory chipset is automatically encrypted. Each phone
has a different security key, meaning that other devices cannot access
the data stored on your phone's memory chipset
I still don't buy it 100% because it doesn't request a PIN or Passcode to enter Android when you reboot the phone. I think we'll have to take their word on that.
Posted the same question on the Honor support forums, crickets.

I was under the impression that all Marshmallow phones have full disk encryption enabled by default.

There's no option for it in Security settings? Marshmallow is not encrypted by default.

Maybe that's the closest "encryption" Lol. What was Huawei thinking if they removed data encryption.

It's encrypted by default.
you can check it in terminal
To encryp external sd card just set a password for it.

Really? How come there still an option for encryption in CM13?

Maybe to give you the choice to encrypt or not.

Maybe in stock ROMs it's encrypted by default. Not in CM based ROMs.

What does security settings says?
I think Emui 4 only enables encryption if storage is set to internal as default.

I know my settings and I don't want encryption because it requires password to boot and that prevents the phone to turn on based on a schedule.

Ever since android 6.0, Google has made it compulsory for OEM's on official ROMs to encrypt the phone providing it has the hardware capable to do so.
They tried to do this for lollipop, but because of performance issues, it was never implemented.
This only applies to new phones though, so any upgrading to Marshmallow from previous versions don't have to be encrypted.
As far as I know, no option for decryption exists, sorry

How to do that? I have selected my sd card as default storage so is it already encrypted?

Is it possible to encrypt the external storage so that I can't be read on any other devices other than this?

[Q] Cannot receive ePub files over bluetooth

Hi, I'm running stock android currently. A friend tried to transfer an epub file to me over bluetooth after the devices were paired - but my nexus 5 could not receive it at all. I asked some other friends with different android devices to do that, but the same issue persisted. On the other hand, I am able to transfer epub files to other devices just fine. Just to make sure this issue was not limited to my phone, I tried to transfer an epub file to another nexus 5 and it said 'cannot transfer this type of file'. Any thoughts on this issue? Thanks.
Is this for copyright reasons to prevent people sharing epubs?

Try changing the file extention to ".bat", transfer it, and change it back to ".epub" or whatever it is.

Thanks - I will try that as a workaround, but is there anything that I can do to avoid the workaround at all? I'll also have to check if my file explorer allows me to change file extensions.

If the problem turns out, in fact, to be DRM, then this will be the only way. Have you tried to transfer other types of files?

Possible, but do they have any official statement on this? Surprising that other OEMs allow it, but stock android does not.

Not really sure - since I'm coming from ICS (didn't have an android for a year) and had a Samsung phone which allowed it.

This isn't a bug. Google have mandated by CTS the permissions around external storage be tighter. Now there are only specific circumstances where an application can write to the external storage, like stock camera apps etc.

Thanks for clarifying that. I thought it was a bug in the built, as the GE kitkat rom had the same restriction on SGS4. I think this is a very crappy move from Google. Now, in order to store my podcasts on the sd card I have to root my phone, which conveniently voids my warranty. Freaking corporations and their restricting policies!

it's an additional permission that was added. Specific apps need an update to be able to write again to the SD Card. It's not something impossible... developers need to do their job updating what they already have in place.

I don't see anything else you might do.
The common solutions are try another card (formated to extFAT), try the card in another phone and factory reset.

You can move apps to SD without a 2nd partition. By doing force move. Just like what we had before in Gingerbread-Jellybean. We can move apps freely.

Does anyone use HiCloud for backup?

I am on L04 in US and would like to use HiCloud to backup my phone except for the photo gallery. I have been using it for a while with my Huawei ID, but it stopped working in the recent 2 months. It keeps saying there is not enough space on the cloud, which it is not true as I have only used 40MB out of 5GB space. Does anyone know what is the issue? Maybe the service is not for people out of China? But you should be find HiCloud on Settings...

Yes I have. It looks like all your data is being backed up by google, that means its working already. You just need to login using your google Account to your device at the first boot and select the name of this device and that's it. You will get everything (except the app data)
i use high cloud for backup.
